“Is there something important you phoned me at this hour, Mr. Winston?" Brian inquired over the phone, surprised to receive Winston's call so late at night.

“You did not come to meet your friend's wife. Have you not been aware of it?" As he exhaled smoke from his cigar, Mr. Winston spoke.

“No, I am aware of it, and I made time in the morning to meet William in his office and discuss the situation,” Brian said, continuing to ponder how William's early statement had come to pass.
