Chapter 18

KYLIAN’S POV

Time felt like eternity. Well, at least a day of waiting for her to relax her mind felt like she was going to take lightyears to come. I itched to talk to her, to let her know my intentions were purely out of care and worry, but the cold looks she sent my way stopped me.

It was the strangest thing I had ever felt. How could I, an alpha, feel regret for demanding respect. Now, she had me grappling for straws each time I thought of her.

“That's it, I've had enough. I need to talk to her,” I said, hitting my fists against the chair I sat on.

It was a lovely morning and I sat alone in my chambers while watching the bright morning sky. It was also a guise to keep watch over my territory but for some reason Maya’s absence kept me away from doing just that. Her eyes kept distracting me.

I grew tired of having her presence thrusting through my head like a wooden spear. I stood up in an instant and hollered at the guards beside the door.

“Get me Maya, Now!” I shoute

Chapter 19KYLIAN’S POVShe flinched back in controlled fear, feeling surprised at my anxious attitude. Well, that was what I could read on her face. Like she never expected me to care about her.“If it's about the baby, they are perfectly fine. I'd take my last breath before I let anything happen to them,” she replied, keeping a long face. What was wrong with her? I couldn't figure it out but her temperature was burning up even from the thick layered clothes she wore. I could feel her heating up and her eyes reddening like she had cried all night.“Hey,” I whispered, sounding softer than I did recently “You know what the doctor said to you about stress,” She nodded and watched me go on without saying a word. I didn't like it, I got greedy and not only wanted to feel her presence but to also hear her voice.“The mind link,” my voice box escaped out of my throat, making me fill my chest with air. The air that quickly flew out the minute they rushed in “That was a wrong on my path and

A pack…princess getting sick in the first trimester is most times not ordinary at all,” She stuttered, her voice shaky and anxious. “I'm pretty sure an external force might be at play,” She was right. I had almost forgotten that external influences couldn't be read by mere diagnosis. My face lit up in optimism as our grip tightened. She didn't want to let go and I wasn't ready to leave just yet. I watched her for sometime until I gathered courage to slip my hand out of her palm.As for Marianne’s, she stood there waiting for my command. I glanced at her and ordered her to stand and watch over Maya while I made plans.“Marianne, keep watch over her. I'll be back,”“Yes sir,” she replied, moving towards the corner of the large bed. I rushed out of the room with the choice I was about to make weighing me down mentally.“A know healer would proba

Chapter 21KYLIAN’S POVI was astonished, blank at what action to take next while the woman stood there with a captivating aura that unveiled how harmless and lethal she could be at the same time. “Who are you?” I shot with a deep, assertive voice, snapping my fist for battle.“I was summoned by an Alpha, I answered, thus here I am,” she bowed her head again and stopped smiling. She raised her head and looked at me with a serious expression “You know it's forbidden for a healer to ignore the calls of an Alpha,”I never knew that, I only pretended to be unamazed at the reply she gave me but deep down I was in awe. Seconds ago, I was prepared to attack any healer I knew of but as at this moment, I was calm, amazed and impressed.“Why am I here, Alph…”“Quick, my mate has fallen Ill,” I interrupted. I couldn't wait for her to finish just like she couldn't reveal herself to me outside. She nodded and waited for me to lead the way, I could say I waited for her to follow me. Her steps were

Chapter 22MAYA'S POVMy disdain for the statements he threw my way was overwhelming. I wonder how he could expect me to act calm after finding out about his attempts to read my mind. Not ever. I crossed my arms and frowned deeply.I knew I wasn’t in the right place or power to talk back to him when he followed me to my room. Dare I say his room, because I was just a guest with a year long contract. The back and forth would have continued if he had not shown me a stern, shocking side of him. It was in every Alpha but I couldn't have seen it coming, his cold looks couldn't do shit to help me by warning beforehand. I kept firing my reply, forgetting what I was even in my previous pack.In a sudden twist, one that I wasn't prepared for, he quaked. “Count yourself lucky today Maya, but know that you might not be so lucky some other time,” his deep, menacing voice resounded in my ears as I watched him storm out. I got scared. Scared of my life, scared of whatever he was going to do. Call

Chapter 23MAYA'S POVI tried getting a quick reply by making a troubled face but they busied themselves trying to catch their breaths.“Is there a problem?” I asked, persistent on getting my answer. One of the men raised his head and glanced at me.“I…I,” he stuttered, hitting his thighs. I almost chuckled at their funny stances but I bit my tongue and held back a light cough from jumping out of my mouth.“Sent,” he continued “Our Alpha has sent for you, ma'am,”. This time, they all stood straight like buoyant armies ready for battle. “Me,” I echoed, pointing to my chest as I shone my eyes.“Yes, you. And I'll advise you be fast about it. I'm pretty sure you heard him shout,” “Alright, give me a minute to come out,” I replied as they watched the door squeak shut on their faces. I leaned my back to the wall and exhaled quietly. “I have to see him, huh,” I whispered Surely this did not require Marianne to pick a dress for me or watch me make a choice. Infact, I haven't seen her walk

A weak attempt to convince me I was alright. After that she slipped back to the doctor's side and ushered him out. I was going to die. This was unfair. I lived all my life in ridicule and a second to all and now when I finally found something to hold onto, life decided to push me out of its cold shade. Of course, I was sure of my predicament. Why else would the doctor put on a scared face? Why else would Kylian pretend to hold his anger while Marianne vanished out of sight? His Luna was about to leave him, finally he could have a chance at finding his real mate and not a fake like me.The tears that formed in my eyes refused to fall down. They were held back by the strange scene that played before me; Marianne bowed on her feet and addressed her master. It was awful to watch with no warnings

Chapter 25: A maze of thoughtsMAYA'S POV There was no car on sight. We looked at our right and left a thousand times but nothing revved its engine our way, not even a bicycle whistled its way down our path. I turned to Madeline to give her a signal. To my greatest surprise, before I could get a response from her, she slipped her hands out of mine and hopped into the road like a kangaroo. My face turned into a glass of horror as worry wash down my feet. How could she jump off without my knowledge? The crazy girl didn't care to look back, she took her time to hop peacefully to her destination. I was about to join her and grab her hands when the sound of a steaming engine lingered in my ear. It revved like it was at full speed ahead, throttling in our direction. I looked to the right and saw nothing but the teaming heat of the tarred road evaporating to the sky. With that, I quickly turned to the left, a black sport car catching my attention. It drove at an alarming speed, enough to

My ears weren't working properly, so why now? What changed? My eyes shone open like I had been asleep for years and decided to wake up. I locked contact with Kylian but he avoided mine only giving me a glance that said everything he could ever say to meHe whispered some words to Marianne and pointed to the healer. If I had any doubts in my veins, his assuring composure made me take his words. Finally, my curse was going to be lifted. I didn't know what to say to him, I couldn't even talk. “Thank you,” the words flew right out of my mouth. Kylian stared at me to check if I was okay and with the movement of my lips, he nodded lightly.I was with his child. He must have felt obligated to take care of me. I felt the genuity of his nod, it was reassuring like he wanted to do it. I moved my eyes to

Chapter 58: The time for a big shot Maya's POV She mustn't have been standing at the door all this while. She would grow old of exhaustion. Maybe she had timed that Jennifer would get thirsty, besides it felt like she was desperate to please Jennifer.Their strange relationship bothered me because it was odd and so random. Jennifer never got close to any maid in Kylian's house, let alone having a fun time with them. Why was Marianne different? She'd always serve them in smiles, expecting something back as if Jennifer was a giver. In my bid to avoid going close to Jennifer, I watched her and her son gulp down the juice while I longed to have some. Marianne took several glances at me and would itch her hair each time our eyes met. “Is that okay for you Hans,” Jennifer smiled, prompting a quick nod from him. Marianne exchanged a knowing smirk with Jennifer and exhaled loudly “I guess I better be taking them in,” she stated.“Nonsense,” Jennifer quipped, raising her hand to hold Mar

This reminded me of a situation much similar to this, only that the previous was nice and unaware of the hell she put me through.Ha, Madeline! Was this happening all again? I could leave my home but it would never leave me. If only I felt safe with Jennifer the way I did with my sister. But of course not, Jennifer wasn't my relation. She'd love to see me suffer for the fun of it. I hissed and walked down to my room as Marianne glanced at the door, our eyes almost met but I broke it split second from impact.Kylian had just left the room but I could smell him all over the room. Chapter 56: The answer could be bleakMaya's POV What could Rex mean when he said ‘out of the ordinary’, I wondered. From the little time I spent with him, I already knew he wasn't one to bluff or tell a lie. I read his expression; it was obvious that he hated Jennifer, all evident on his deep frown. “She changed him?” I asserted, widening my eyes.“No, but she almost did,” Rex replied.I took a deep breath and placed my hands on my waist. Jennifer's face filled my thoughts, she was starting to live rent free in my head. “Respectfully, I'd advise you to be careful. I went through hell the last time she was around,” He snapped both of his fingers and exhaled loudly “But You are different, way better than I thought you'd be,” His words sounded genuine, it felt like he had waited a long time to tell me that. He gave a faint smile and prepared to walk out, dusting his shirt and humming a tune.As he walked past me, I picked up his scent. I was still having a hard time controlling my

I was already wondering if I had overstepped my boundaries but he raised his head and put his right hand into his pockets.“Of course, I do,” What a relief! I heaved a sigh and swirled my hair, bracing up to ask the next question.“No surprise there,” I replied “I'm pretty sure she was a nice person,” Rex twisted his mouth in curiosity and blinked at me. He caught on to what I needed from him and with a snicker he replied.“Yeah, she was nice.” He paused. That was the opposite of what I was expecting “Only if you were Kylian or Mrs Castle,” he said after a long wait.“What? She wasn't nice at all to you,” He shook his head and inserted his left hand into his pocket “No, she wasn't. Why would she need to?” He asked, his tone dripping with sarcasm.“I just thought she is a little off to me. I didn't know you

Chapter 54: The line in between.Maya's POV I thought my presence in Kylian's room would be a bliss and it would leave me dreaming more of him. No, it wasn't. Each night, I had to fight the urge to not look desperate. We were always left looking awkward each time we laid. My legs would mistakenly hit his and we would usher ourselves into an uninterrupted hour of pointless apology. Sometimes, I would watch him sleep while I let my imagination take me far into wonderland. This would have continued if Jennifer wasn't such a spiteful being. My new placement made her seethe in anger. She never looked me in the eyes after our room incidence but that never meant she quitted. She made a big deal out of treatment I received for being pregnant“Who gives a shit if she's pregnant,” Jennifer complained “I was also pregnant and I wasn't laying around like an old hag,” She didn't care if I was seated there or Kylian was breezing past. She yell at the top of her voice and most times, threatened

Chapter 53: The Alpha's command.Maya's POV We all gaped at him to give his command, my heart panting for him to rule in my favour just this once.Jennifer patted Hans back and sang a lullaby. I thought her voice was parched and out of tune. She knew what she was doing and unfortunately I had nothing to play victim with.“He can't go on crying like this. Please Kylian,” Jennifer said after a long wait of singing her lullaby. It felt like using Hans wasn't working at all and she needed validation.“Alright, let's change the room,” Kylian voiced.A bomb dropped in me, detonating the instant as Kylian tucked his hands into his robe. “What the hell,” I forced out my expression. This was the first time I lashed out to a public and I quickly regretted ever speaking up. “I knew it,” Jennifer yelled back, “You'd rather see my son suffer than…”“No, I didn't mean it that way,” I interrupted knowing where she was going. If she wanted to paint me pitch black, I wasn't supposed to relax and wa

Chapter 52: A taste of biased influence.Maya's POV How could she give a compliment after threatening and reading me to filth? I felt a twitch to brace up for what was coming next. I expected it to come soon enough, that was how predictable I thought Jennifer was going to be.One chill and cozy night, I had just returned from the woods. Nobody told me setting my wolf at night to roam free, hunt and howl at the moon was relaxing and fun. My feets were wet with mud as I shifted back and stealthily walked into my room. I had a shower and ate the food Marianne left for me on my side table. She was usually aware that I left the palace but never said a word to anyone. After I had eaten to my fill, I laid on my back and waited to drown myself to sleep.“I can't with this anymore,” I heard a scream from the deeper path of the palace. With all the lights Kylian had in his home, I always refused to walk down there in fear that I would bump into Jennifer.I thought of standing up to eavesdrop

Chapter 51: Look dread in the eyes.Maya's POV Was I born only to be a second to one? Why couldn't things go my way like the others? All the months I spent, thinking my pregnancy was special. I had the son of an Alpha, maybe not Kylian's, but an Alpha's pups were literally growing in me.Why couldn't it just remain the way it was? Was it necessary for me to go through pain? I cried myself to sleep the day Jennifer walked into my life with an electrifying energy. She had not spoken to me once but I could sense she was here to push me out. Now I had to fight for attention with a professional; someone who could do it so effortlessly. “No, please. This can't be it,” I said holding myself. The image of Kylian holding her kid in his arms horrified me. I never expected a kid could become a threat to me? He had so much love in his eyes. There was a fire and determination in his eyes that I had never seen him with. His cold attitude couldn't help but melt before my very eyes. What were the

She had not yet looked at me straight in the eyes, yet she was encapsulated with guilt. I could read it all over the room. Not only was guilt parading it, Betrayal struck my heart. She broke all the trust I had for her as her supposed close friend broke hers with pleasure. I turned to the lady again, she had a satisfied smirk on her face as Jennifer cried. She was filled with contention as though her plans to ruin Jennifer's life took her a century to cook up. While Jennifer was about to plead her case, and Cecilia holding herself from leaping for joy, I was hopeless.Hopelessly immersed in my pain. I came here to beat the shit out of the schmuck who dared to touch my mate only to discover that she wanted to be touch. She wanted to give it to them lustfully. A piercing pain grappled my chest as she called my name.“Baby,” she paused
