“You okay, Cadence?” Aaron asked, looking slightly worried and marginally confused.
“Uh, yeah. Just… a little… jumpy after the hunt last night.”
“You do sound a little bit like a werewolf,” Elliott said to his boss.
“Technically, they weren’t werewolves.” Christian raised a finger, to emphasize his point, and Elliott turned to look at him, his eyes capable of cutting through glass.
“Sometimes it’s like being on an episode of The Three Stooges where Lucille Ball has stopped by to take Shimp’s place,” Jamie said, gazing up to meet Aaron’s eyes.
“You’re telling me,” the Leader agreed.

The maps all over the conference room table immediately drew his attention the second Aaron entered the office he shared with Cadence, but since he knew paying them any mind at all would mean he’d have to pull himself away from them once Ashley arrived, he somehow managed to walk past them to his desk.The new blonde Hunter had only completed her training a few weeks ago, but she was already proving her value. She’d seemed hesitant at first, but in the last few hunts, he’d noticed she was beginning to hit her stride, and he thought she showed some real promise.While he was surprised she’d asked to meet with him privately, he hadn’t questioned her as to why. Cadence had something against the girl that he just couldn’t understand, and he really hoped that Ashley’s request didn’t have anything to do with the lunch she’d scheduled with Cadence. Ashley’s perfectly manicured brows went up, and once again she was swallowing as if her throat was parched. “You really don’t know?” Slowly, Aaron shook his head. “Boy, for someone who always seems to figure everything out before the rest of us get to step one, there are some things you aren’t quite as quick about, huh?” Most of that came out under her breath, as if she was muttering to herself, and while he was tempted to ask her if she realized what she’d just said—to her boss—he only stared at her. “Aaron, I can’t stay here any longer. Thinking of Cadence, Aaron decided he should let her know that she could come back into their shared office now. He sent her a quick IAC message to tell her that Ashley was gone and then sat down at his desk, waiting to see if she was coming back before he headed over to the table of doom.
