With every single day that passed, attending to the elite pack members and serving their meal as they moved into the mansion, I felt like I was losing more and more of myself.

I had checked every badged person that came my way to see if I could find who entered my room nights ago but so far, I had come up with nothing.

The pack had been buzzing with news of another pack that hardly showed its face. The pack meet event that the pack had been planning for weeks was almost in view and the mysterious pack had decided to attend.

It must have been a big deal for the pack to want to make the event as special as possible.

The large main hall was extravagantly decorated with jewels, gold, silver and accessories from around the world.

Everywhere looked extremely beautiful. It must be a very big event, so I rolled the empty trolley into the kitchen. I was finally done for the day.

I took a turn by the corner and finally I stood in front of Julia's room. I slowly knocked on the door and waite

Unfortunately, I can't do anything to you right now because I have an important dinner to attend.”He stepped away from me and threw my knife to the ground like I was too weak to do anything. I stepped away from the wall and watched him wearily as he dressed up in his dinner wear. He looked over at me and smirked.“You want to know why I wanted to have my way with you?” I stay silent.“Because you are still mine. No matter what.” “But you broke our bond, how am I still yours?” I whispered but he must have heard me because he laughed out loud.“My wolf still yearns and craves you. It doesn't want Stephanie anymore since it found you.” In a swift motion, he was in front of me.“You are still and will always be mine”“No! Never. I will never be yours. I was never and will never be yours.” I squ

Mima's POVMy fingers trembled as I knotted the final piece of fabric to the makeshift rope. The sheets and clothes twisted together was my key to freedom.I could feel the anxiety of it all coursing through my veins. I said a small prayer to the goddess before I carried the fabrics and moved to carry my bag.I opened my window, the cool night air brushing against my sweat-slicked skin. My heart thudded painfully, but there was no room for hesitation. With one deep breath, I tossed the rope down. It dangled, barely reaching the ground, but it would have to do.The moonlight illuminated the small clearing below. The trees of the forest were dark and scary but I had to push through. With one final breath to calm myself, I gripped the fabric, knuckles white, and swung one leg over the windowsill. My stomach flipped as my foot dangled in the open air.Focus, Mima.Slowly, I climbed down. The rope burned against my palms, but I clenched my teeth and pressed on.One foot down. Another. My b

Rake's POVI needed a break from the loud music in the halls. The whole event was exhausting. Meeting with Alpha's and speaking on diplomacy. Why had I decided to come again?I took a turn and was about to rest on the wall when I heard a scream.I looked up in shock to see a lady falling from a rope.I had to help her.I stretched out my hand and felt my heart race in my chest as I caught her. The impact of her fall knocked the breath out of me, but nothing could distract me from the overwhelming sensation of her. My arms tightened instinctively, cradling her delicate body against mine.I didn't understand why I did it.Her scent, a blend of sunflowers and daisies, filled my nostrils; I felt the urge to never let her go.My wolf began to howl in ecstasy.Mate! Mate! he roared, his voice a frantic, joyful echo in my mind. I could see him running around and wagging his tail with glee in my mind.I could barely process it. My mate was in my arms. The Goddess had finally given me this gif

Mima's POVI followed Rake without a word, my feet barely keeping pace with his long strides. My mind was still in confusion, trying to process everything that had just happened. He had saved me, caught me when I was falling, fed me and then dropped the bomb that I was his mate, and now I was walking through halls filled with people, most of that I didn’t know, yet everyone seemed to recognize him.Rake didn’t seem to care about the eyes on him. He didn’t flinch when guards called out to him, demanding to know where he was headed.“Stop,” one of the guards ordered, stepping forward to block his path.Rake didn’t even pause his stride, “Move.”The guard faltered for just a moment but then quickly regained composure, as if unsure how to react to the command. The other guards, standing stiffly, eyed Rake in silence, but they didn’t challenge him further.“Return to the hall, Alpha Rake,” one of them said firmly. “Alpha Dylan requests your presence.”Rake paused, and I felt the heat of hi

Mima's POVRake carried me out of the main building, and I was about to take a turn when I spotted Julia in the crowd of people looking at us.“Julia!” I screamed as I leapt off his arms and ran towards her. Her arms were already outstretched for me to hug and that, I did.I held her so tight that she burst out laughing about how I was suffocating her.“Julia, he says he's my mate. Can you believe that?” I said, still surprised and in shock that I had a second chance mate.“Yes, dear. I believe him. You are a gem, the goddess wouldn't punish a lovely soul like yours by not giving you a better option.” Julia said as she slowly let go of me and dragged me to Rake. He stood there staring at us while we spoke.Julia held out his hand and linked mine with his. I felt a warm sensation when she did that made my tummy feel fuzzy and warm.“I might not be her mother or even her guardian but in the short while that she has been here with me, I have loved her just like my own. • The Chosen One   Chapter 22: NO AIR

Mima's POVThe room was wide with a queen sized bed at the centre. It had light blue walls and faux vines hung from the ceilings. I walked in in awe at how beautiful the room was. I turned to see Daria staring at me with a big smile.“Alpha Rake always made sure the room was kept tidy. He said it was his other half. I hope it is to your liking.”“It's .. beautiful. Thank you.”“Oh don't thank me, thank him. He picked everything out. Who knew you'd come a lot sooner than we thought. I am glad you're here.” She chuckled. She is glad that I am here? Is she for real?“I will take my leave now.” Daria walked away and shut the door behind her.I walked towards the huge wardrobe in the room. I was in shock at how many dresses and dress pants were there. From blouses to gowns to jackets and even coats for the winter. I took a light blue dress and walked towards the bathroom to get changed.I stood in front of the mirror and looked at myselfThe person that looked back at me was not who I was

Mima's POV “Do you think he took you away to save you from us? You would never be free from us. You would forever be nothing. Just a cast-aside mate of Dylan's” Stephanie circled me as she taunted me; her venomous smirk made me shiver. All of a sudden, I was back in the dungeons, chained to the wall. I snapped my eyes open. My chest was heaving and I was drenched in sweat. I frantically looked around and realised that I wasn't in my old room. The bed beneath me was soft. I wasn’t used to this kind of comfort. For a moment, I just lay there, my eyes tracing the ceiling. The room was extremely beautiful. It looked like the kind I had always disturbed my dad for, back home. Dad… I turned my face into the pillows and held my breath trying to force down the memory of the day I lost my family. It still didn’t feel real that they were gone. They were all gone and I was the only one left. I should have died that night too. I sat up slowly, my fingers curling around the b

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 24: THE WEIGHT OF HIS ACTIONS

Rake's POV The border was quiet, unnervingly so. The trees stood still and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was coming. The kind of silence that makes your skin itch and your instincts sharp. I paced the edge, running a hand through my hair, trying to focus. I was pulled in too many directions. The responsibilities of leadership, the pack’s safety, and... Mima. I hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her. Her confusion was the way she looked at me like she didn’t know if she should trust me or run. Every time I told myself I was just doing what had to be done, I’d find myself second-guessing. I couldn’t ignore the way she seemed to fit with me, in a way I hadn’t expected. "Rake." I turned at the sound of my name. Bastian, one of my closest warriors, approached me, his expression grim. "Any sign of them?" I asked. "Not yet. But there one of the wolves picked up on their scent. They're not too far from here." I nodded. I had already sensed the same thing. "Get

I leaned closer, trying to catch it. His voice was barely a whisper.“Witch.”The word sent a shiver down my spine. He pointed a trembling finger at Stephanie, his breaths ragged. His entire body shook as if his bones were vibrating under his skin. The room had gone silent. Eyes darted between Kia and Stephanie, murmurs breaking out.Stephanie’s expression twisted into shock and something I couldn't place my finger on. She raised a perfectly arched brow at me and then trailed her eyes to Kia.What did he mean by calling her a witch?I didn’t have time to analyze it. I wrapped my arms around Kia, pulling him into my chest. “I’m sorry,” I said to the table, my voice steady despit

Mima’s POV“You’re taking him with you?” Rake said as he stared at me. His voice was calm as he spoke, and it helped to calm my racing heart, expecting his refusal.I met his stare, my arms tightening protectively around Kia. “Yes.”Beck shifted beside him, looking ready to intervene, but Rake didn’t break eye contact with me. Then, to everyone’s shock, he exhaled and nodded. “Alright.”A beat passed.Zahra let out a loud, exaggerated gasp. “It’s the kiss, isn’t it?” Heat shot up my neck. “Zahra—”She burst out laughing, and Beck followed suit, clapping a hand to Rake's back dramatically. Even Daria snickered behind her hand.Rake arched a brow, then smirked. “Maybe.” I gaped at him.Zahra collapsed onto the bed, gasping with laughter. “Oh, this is the best day of my life. Who would have thought I'd see a day like this? Mima’s POVRake’s lips moved against mine, sending a shiver down my spine. His hand rested on my waist, his fingers pressing just enough to make my skin tingle. My heart pounded in my chest, as I felt him thrust his tongue into my mouth, sucking on mine.I was kissing him.My mate.I let myself sink into it for a breath, two, before reality hit me. I came here for a reason.I placed my hands on his chest, pushing lightly. “Rake.”He didn’t pull away immediately. His darkened eyes roamed my face with a small smile on his lips before he finally exhaled, his forehead dropping against mine.“I need to tell you something,” I murmured. His thumb traced slow circles on my waist, a silent urge to continue. I swallowed, forcing myself to focus.“I’m going to the wedding.”Rake stilled. His grip on me loosened slightly. “You’re sure?” “Yes.”He nodded once as if accepting it, but his gaze flickered back to my lips. He tilted his head, his hand moving up to my jaw. “Then let’s finish what we sta

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 40: A KISS OR NOT

Mima’s POVI barely spoke for days.Daria tried, at first, asking questions like how I found the weather or how I liked my meal, bringing up small things to get me to engage. But I gave her nothing. Eventually, even she stopped trying. The only people I acknowledged were Kai and, occasionally, Daria.Rake kept his distance. He didn't ask about the letter, although I am sure Daria must have told him that I burnt it. We barely crossed paths, mostly because I stayed in my room most of the time.My nightmares, which had momentarily stopped, came back. They weren't the weird men but they went back to Dylan and Stephanie. They came like they always did, dragging me back into places I never wanted to return to. Dark dungeons, my old room and in each one, Dylan's face appeared, especially that night he tried to sexually assault me.Every time I closed my eyes, I was there again.I woke up gasping and shaking, my heart pounding so hard it hurt. And every time, I found Kai awake too, watching m

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 39: THE CAGED CHILD

Mima's POVThe boy was locked up.I stood outside the iron doors of the cell, my fingers tightening around the tray of food in my hands. The dungeons reeked and this place was most definitely not suitable for a child. He sat curled in the farthest corner, knees drawn to his chest, arms wrapped tightly around himself. His dark hair, still matted with dried blood, clung to his forehead. He hadn’t moved since the warriors shoved him inside.“Here,” I said softly, kneeling by the bars. “You need to eat.”His eyes flickered to me, then to the food before looking away. He ignored me.Daria knelt beside me. “He’s scared.”“Of course he’s scared,” I muttered. “He woke up in a cage.”The guilt I felt grew stronger. I had carried him here, thinking I was saving him, but now he was locked behind bars as if he were some kind of criminal.Rake’s orders.I had fought him, of course. Had stood there, shaking with fury, demanding he let the boy go. But Rake had already turned away, shutting me out as

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 38: THE BOY IN THE WOODS

Mima’s POVWe heard rustling in the forest and we both froze where we stood. The rustling grew louder. My body tensed, every sense on high alert.Daria edged closer to me. "Luna, something's out there."I nodded, scanning the treeline. My heart pounded, but the overwhelming power I had felt beneath the water was now just a faint hum. I didn't know if I could call on it again.A low whimper broke the silence. It sounded like an injured animal but I couldn't tell.A whimper sounded again and then I heard it clearly. A child.Daria gasped, rushing forward before I could stop her. "Wait!" I hissed, but she was already kneeling beside a small figure half- hidden by the underbrush.I stepped closer and froze. Aboy.He was curled up, his frail body shaking. His clothes were torn and dirty, and his arms were covered in cuts and bruises. He couldn’t have been older than ten. His dark hair was matted with blood, and his breathing was shallow.Daria reached out hesitantly. "He's hurt."I crouche

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 37: POWERS REAWAKENING

Mima’s POVCold. It wrapped around me like a firm hand, squeezing the breath from my lungs. My limbs refused to move, trapped in the unnatural pull of the lake. Panic clawed at my chest. I tried to fight or break free, But I couldn't.My body wasn’t mine anymore. My fingers twitched uselessly as the water dragged me deeper. The glow beneath me pulsed, silver and hypnotic, swirling like something alive. The Moon Goddess said my powers were sealed. Was this them breaking free?I opened my mouth to scream, but only bubbles escaped. Suddenly, the light exploded.A force just like I had felt that night surged through my body, burning and freezing at the same time. My skin prickled, my veins pulsed with raw energy, and my head snapped back as pain lanced through my skull.A voice whispered through the water. "Awaken." The world around me shifted.I wasn't in the lake anymore.I stood in a vast, silver-lit void. The ground beneath me wasn’t solid, but I didn't sink. My breath came in sharp g

Mima's POVI woke up to find that I was alone in my room.Rake must have left to do some work. I felt better, my nightmares had even reduced. I could think straight without remembering my past and I was enjoying my stay in this pack.Everything felt just like how it was before my parents died. I felt a whole lot better.I got out of bed and looked out the window. It was nighttime, and the moon shone so brightly into my room. The moon was beautiful tonight, and I just couldn't take my eyes off it. Then I heard it.“Child.”“Who is there?” I said into the empty room. Was I about to be kidnapped again?I looked around and almost turned my room upside down looking for the voice. By the time I was done, my room had looked as though a tornado had come through it.“Be calm child.”“Stop playing tricks on me, who are you?” I screamed. “The lake, come to the lake.”“No, no you're trying to kill me. Rake wouldn't like it; Rake would be mad if I went again, and he wouldn't listen to me. He woul

  • The Chosen One   Chapter 35: NEW INFORMATION

Rake's POVI stood outside of the room with a smile on my face. Mima was probably going to be pissed that I kept this from her for so long, but she would be happy, too, and if she was angry, I'd just find a way to appease her.My mind went back to how enthralling she had looked earlier and my heart raced.“Alpha. I'm sorry but I would like to have a word with you.” One of my subordinates called out to me. I nodded at him and followed him to one of the equipment rooms.“We finally got wind of the people that you had described.”At the mention of his words, my face immediately turned into a frown.“Tell me.”“They don't exist on the map.” He said before sucking in a breath and gauging my reaction.“What?! What do you mean by they don't exist on the map?” I asked fuming.“We couldn't find any trace about them from anybody. They didn't have a specific location. I asked around and some people did know them. Some had seen them lurking around in the shadows of their pack or walking in broad
