Chapter 667

Author: Chweety
Ronald breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe Charles was not going to make a big deal out of it.

It turns out Ronald was right. Charles was not looking to make a fuss, considering the situation's urgency. Charles pocketed his phone and glanced over at Noelle.

The stew had just been served, its surface not yet bubbling. Noelle watched the pot with a look of longing and impatience, its fiery red contents promising a spicy kick.

Noelle noticed Charles had ended the call and curiously asked, "What's up? Aren't we on a break right now? Why are you still trying to reach Ronald?"

"Oh, it's no big deal!" Charles replied. He could not help noticing Noelle fidgeting with the silverware in her right hand, looking like she could not wait to dig in. Feeling a bit self-conscious when she caught Charles's gaze, Noelle sheepishly pulled her hand back.

However, Charles was quicker. He caught Noelle's right hand, his dark eyes locking onto hers. He seemed captivated, inspecting her fingers as if they he

A playful glint danced in Charles's deep eyes. "Well, aren't you going to choose one?" he teased, strolling over to a display case to survey the array of rings.Noelle trailed behind him, casting only a brief glance at the collection before she hesitated. Charles caught her hand gently. "Not to your liking?"She shook her head. "It's not that. It's just that wearing something so lavish to work doesn't sit right with me." Noelle was mindful that her colleagues were unaware of her true status, and after the previous night's events, their perceptions of her had likely shifted. She had no desire to be treated differently in the workplace.Charles looked at her thoughtfully and gave a small nod. "What kind of ring are you thinking of, then?""Something understated and minimalist," Noelle mused, moving on to another display. She beckoned Charles over with a wave. "Hey, Charles, check this one out. What do you think?" She pointed to a ring that was the epitome of simplicity—no diamonds, n

Charles and Noelle spotted Gerald too, and the woman with him, her delicate arm linked with his, came over."Mr. Hoffman, got some free time to shop today?" Gerald asked, eyeing the ring on Noelle's finger before nodding knowingly. "Your wedding was so lowkey, Mr. Hoffman. You haven't even thrown a ceremony dinner yet! Did you just come to pick out this ring today?"Gerald's gaze lingered on the simple band on Noelle's finger. It was nothing flashy or expensive, just a plain ring. "Mr. Hoffman, surely you're not pinching pennies? Couldn't you have splurged a little for Mrs. Hoffman?" Gerald's eyes flicked meaningfully toward the sales associate they had encountered earlier. The clerk's face went ghost-white in a flash, and the other clerks who had been sneakily watching started sneaking each other looks after Gerald dropped his bombshell. They did not recognize Charles, but they could tell from how Gerald was practically bowing that Charles was a big deal.Charles just arched an e

Noelle might seem like a breeze to figure out, but she was actually the toughest nut to crack. People like her, who wanted for nothing and did not chase after anything, were the trickiest to handle."Don't sweat it. Maybe you're just blowing things out of proportion.""Didn't you see that? Noelle snaps her fingers, and Charles jumps." Gerald spun on his heel, a stormy look on his face as he scanned the crowd. "Well? Aren't you going to look for her?""Mr. Rogers? What are you doing here?"While the two paused their chat, the manager scurried over. He had been around the whole time but had stayed back when he sensed trouble brewing. Then, catching Gerald's grim vibe, the manager realized things had escalated."You're asking me what's the problem? What do we pay you for? To shoo away our guests?" Gerald's eyes cut to the manager, who was mopping his brow with a handkerchief and shaking like a leaf. "Mr. Rogers, I'm not sure I follow. We're here to do business. Why would we turn away

On the morning of the third day, rumors about Charles, Winter, and what had happened at Collosus Group’s annual dinner spread about town. A picture of Charles and Winter gazing at each other flirtatiously at the annual dinner was blown up and posted on the front pages. Winter was considered a well-known celebrity sandwiched between being an A-lister and a B-lister. She used to be perceived quite positively by the public. However, the scandals she had gotten caught in a while ago meant those in the industry did not favor her. However, just as everyone was beginning to think Winter’s future was over, Royal Star, under Charles’ name, had signed on Winter and spent a pretty fortune on her. Everybody thought Royal Star was just trying to boost Winter’s popularity, but now, they were starting to think something was going on between her and Charles, which was why he had extended a helping hand to her during her lowest. Regarding these rumors, journalists called Royal Star early in the m

“Nothing impossible about that unless the picture here is a fake.” Xavier had nowhere to release all his pent-up anger. He had never imagined Winter and Charles would get entangled with each other like that. The other day, Winter mentioned that since she would be there to put in a good word for him, there would be plenty of collaboration opportunities between Frotconn and Collosus Group. However, if Winter’s so-called way of putting in a good word was as the newspapers described it, wouldn’t that make him a fool who had been cheated on? “Winter Shaw, I never thought you would treat me this way!” “It’s not like that, Xavier. You have to trust me. Don’t take things the wrong way. My relationship with Charles is not what it seems, and I don’t have any feelings for him. I merely think of him as a senior, and this is just an interaction between a junior and their senior…” “Enough!” Xavier said as he flung Winter’s hand away impatiently. “Look at how you’re looking at Charles. Could the

“Don’t you know what’s going on? Haven’t you seen today’s news yet?” Winter asked, stunned. “Someone posted pictures of me at Collosus Group’s annual dinner online.” “Isn’t that a good thing?” Suzy asked, confused. “I’ve been at home with my parents the past two days and haven’t been paying attention to the news. But shouldn’t that be a good thing if that's what's happened?” “Not at all. It may have been if it was reported positively, but it was done so negatively. Someone took a picture of Charles and me from an odd angle and sold it to the paparazzi. Now, all the headlines are about me and Charles, saying that we have a hidden relationship. This wouldn’t matter all that much if I weren’t married, but the thing is that I’m married to Xavier. Moreover, Xavier and Charles are connected in their own way as well. Suzy, you’ve got to help me come up with a plan!” “That’s going to be difficult to deal with. Does Charles know about this? What about Royal Star?” Suzy’s brows knitted the

Suzy drew in a deep breath as she ended her conversation with her parents before picking up her phone and dialing Jane’s number. “Jane, what on earth is going on? Who released the news?” “It’s definitely not me,” Jane said as she frowned. “There’s no way I would put out news like this, but I don’t know who did this either. No one at Royal Star is letting a peep out, either. You’ve got to understand that Charles, our big boss, is embroiled in the scandal this time. If he wants to get to the bottom of this, we’ll have to suffer the consequences as well.” Jane was not vexed because of Winter, but rather at the fact she would get dragged into the mess as well. “Oh, that’s right. Who do you think did this?” “Why would you think that I know anything when you have no idea yourself, Jane?” Suzy hung up the phone and bit her lip, running through the facts before dialing Ronald’s number. Ronald was currently scrolling through and reading the headlines the various news outlets had crafted

“I don’t know, which is why I called you to ask, Mr. Wells. I’m confident this has nothing to do with Winter, though I’m eager for her downfall as well. Mr. Wells, who do you think would like to cause harm to Mr. Charles?” Suzy’s intention was not to help Winter but merely to get on Ronald’s good side so she would inadvertently get on Charles’ good side. Suzy knew that Winter was nothing. Charles was the actual big boss of this game they were playing. If she managed to win Charles’ favor, she would not need to worry about not getting revenge anymore. Upon hearing that, Ronald merely sneered inwardly, thinking to himself that it was no surprise Suzy and Winter had used to be close friends when they were practically jackals of the same tribe. Compared to Annie, Suzy would not be an easy piece of work to deal with. At the very least, Annie had repented sincerely after learning of everything, but Suzy had not. Annie had chosen to leave this unfavorable place, while Suzy had chosen to

Sean had originally planned to take Liliana to the school infirmary, but after seeing the severity of her injuries and considering her current state, he knew that going there would only draw unwanted attention.Instead, he called his driver to take them to the hospital, ensuring she could get a proper examination and treatment. The moment Liliana heard the word hospital, she panicked. "I'm not going!"She reached for the car door, intending to get out, but Sean grabbed her wrist. "You're not going to the hospital? Then where do you plan on going? Look at yourself—you're covered in injuries, and you still don't want to get checked out?"Sean genuinely wondered if this girl was an idiot. She had not fought back when she was being beaten, and now that she was injured, she refused medical care?Even so, Liliana could not afford to think about such things. Her circumstances did not allow her to get sick, let alone go to the hospital.During her years with the Hoffmans, the most impor

Liliana became acutely aware of her own disgrace. She hugged herself tightly, her eyes filled with wariness as she looked at the boy in front of her.Sean suddenly found the situation amusing. "Are you afraid of me?"Liliana did not respond, but the look in her eyes said it all.Raising an eyebrow, Sean noticed her tugging at the tattered remains of her clothing. Without another word, he shrugged off his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. "Do you know where the infirmary is?"She remained silent, and Sean's patience wore thin. "I just saved you. Are you mute?""Thank you," Liliana murmured, then carefully removed the jacket and tried to hand it back. "It'll get dirty."Her voice was small, and her gaze was downcast. She had not forgotten what Sean had said years ago—that she was filthy.Sean's frown deepened, his brows knitting together in irritation. He snatched the jacket back and threw it over her again. "Do you have any idea how terrible you look right now?"Liliana

Jasper straddled her back, pressing her down with his weight, making her entire body tremble with humiliation and despair."I'm not what you say I am! Let me go! I'll tell the teachers! At this school, money ruled, and status was power. Liliana was neither. She was cornered against the school's back wall. She had streaks of red in her own hair and a cigarette wedged between her fingers. She was McKenzie Lomax, the eldest daughter of the Lomax family. The boy beside her was Jasper Adair, the sixth-grade tyrant of the Adair family.Liliana was in their class, and they bullied her every day. "But I didn't climb up here because I wanted to!" Liliana looked at Sean hesitantly.During her time at the Hoffmans, she had not learned much, but one skill she had picked up was reading people's expressions. The boy's eyes were filled with impatience."Sir, I really didn't wish for this to happen. Please help me down!"Hearing her pitiful voice, Sean pressed his lips together, his face showing an expression far too mature for his age. He did not say anything, but his body language made his thoughts clear—he was utterly annoyed.Even so, he still climbed the tree in a few swift moves, stopping just a short distance from Liliana. Before she could react, he reached out and pulled her toward him with a rough yank. The moment her soft body crashed into his chest, his face turned a deep shade of red. Even though she loved him deeply now, Noelle still felt as if a part of her memory was missing. It seemed unfair to Charles.Charles simply smiled, lowering his head to place a gentle kiss on the corner of her lips."Alright. Whatever you want to know, I'll tell you." He agreed, his tone warm and unwavering. "But before that, I think we have something more important to do.""What is it?" Noelle looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with a misty glow that made Charles' heart ripple."Our wedding night, of course, Mrs. Hoffman."Noelle's face turned bright red in an instant. "Charlie, I forgot about you. Tell me the truth—are you angry?"Charles sighed. "No, how could I ever be angry with you?"He reached out and gently tucked a strand of Noelle's hair behind her ear. Seeing the seriousness in her eyes, he let out a soft chuckle. "Even if you never remember me for the rest of your life, I still wouldn't be angry.""Really?"Charles nodded.Noelle hesitated for a moment, then mustered the courage to look straight at him. "Charlie… if—just hypothetically—if things between me and Xavier had never gone wrong… If Winter never came between us and I was still with Xavier… What would you have done? Would you have just watched me get engaged to him? Marry him? And then—"Before she could finish, Charles pressed a finger against her lips, silencing her.Noelle blinked and saw that his gaze had deepened. He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist."No. That would never happen," he said firmly. The very thought of her with someone else, marrying someone else
