Chapter 660

Author: Chweety
The Hoffman family's old house came alive as Janet sprinted toward Charles, only to be stopped in her tracks by his warning glare. "Didn't you notice I'm helping Aunt?"

Janet's lips tightened as she shot a glance at Nancy. Seeing Nancy's weary expression, Janet's eyes betrayed a flicker of annoyance. However, with Charles there, she held back her frustration and forced a smile. "Aunt Nancy, it's been ages! How are you holding up?"

"Weren't we just together yesterday?" Nancy could see right through Janet's fake concern. She knew Janet was not her biggest fan.

"Oh, Aunt Nancy, silly me and my forgetful brain! I must miss you so much that it feels like forever when you’re not around," Janet said, her face not even blushing with the lie. "Let me give you a hand, Aunt Nancy!"

"No need. Charles is all the help I need," Nancy declined gently. "Charles, I can walk on my own. Maybe you should head back. Weren't you saying you had things to do?"

"Sure. So, you'll go inside on your own?"

"Don't sell yourself short, Aunt. You raised me like a mother would. Hey, Uncle's not back yet, and I don't want anyone giving you a hard time. Stay in your room for a bit if you can, okay?""Alright, dear. I'm tired, so I'll have a rest," Nancy replied, understanding Charles's concern. She had raised him, after all, so she knew his warm heart well. "Don't worry about Noelle. She's fine in the car, but don't keep her waiting too long."With a tender smile and a glint of affection in his eyes, Charles said, "I'll head back, then. Drop by when you can, Aunt. Noelle and I always enjoy your company."Stepping out of Nancy's room, Charles ran straight into Clarisse and Janet. Clarisse's earlier irritation with Charles had simmered down. She had bigger fish to fry with Nancy later. Right now, she needed to make sure Charles stuck around.Clarisse fidgeted, her hands twisting together as she looked at Charles with hopeful eyes. "Hey, Charles. Now that you're back, how about sticking aroun

"Charles, it was your dad who did me wrong. He's the one who had an affair. That Liliana is living proof he cheated. Did you forget? That girl...""Stop! I only put up with you because you're my mom. Do you really think you're still the queen bee of the Hoffmans? Liliana's chances with the Hoffmans were ruined because of you. You owe her and her mom big time, and you'll never be able to make it right.""You can’t call me a homewrecker! She's the one who tore apart a family. She's the one with no shame!"Charles massaged his temples. "I don't want to talk about who's right and who's wrong. This is my last warning, Mom. Leave Aunt alone and stop threatening Dad, or you'll make me lose the last shred of patience I have."Turning away from Clarisse, Charles saw James descending the stairs and asked, "James, where's Grandpa?""Sir Shaw went out today to hang out with some buddies. He's not back yet!" James replied, scanning the room to gauge everyone's mood before adding cautiously, "M

Charles, feeling Janet's arms around his waist, squinted slightly. A fierce glint appeared in his eyes. "Let go!" His voice was icy, echoing loudly in the open space.Janet was taken aback for a second but quickly shook her head, desperate. "Don't go, Charles. Please?" She clung to him even tighter. "You care about me, don't you? I'm begging you, don't leave. I know you're mad at Aunt, but don't let that affect us. I haven't done anything wrong!""This is the last time I'm saying this. Let go!" Charles's brows were furrowed in frustration, but Janet's grip remained firm.Charles's frown deepened. "Three strikes, Janet." He laid his hand on hers, and she beamed, thinking he was finally giving in. However, he squeezed it hard, shattering her moment of hope.Charles's grip was so tight it felt like he could snap her bones. There was not a shred of gentleness in his touch.Janet's scream pierced the air as her face drained of color. "Charles, it hurts! Let go, please! It's so painful!

Janet's face lost all color as she caught sight of Clarisse stepping out.Clarisse's expression darkened at Charles's words. She rushed to Janet, who was slumped on the ground, and helped her to her feet. "Janet, what's wrong? Are you hurt?"Charles, meanwhile, turned on his heel, opened the car door with a flourish, and slid inside.Janet was not about to let it go. She shoved Clarisse aside and dashed for the car, reaching for the passenger door.Noelle had been waiting for Charles inside, watching the drama unfold. Should she step out and stake her claim, confronting the woman who dared to chase after her husband?Noelle bit her lip, torn between revealing their secret relationship and keeping it under wraps. She was Charles's wife, after all, and it was not easy to watch another woman constantly eyeing her husband. Noelle knew she was not the type to just let it slide.Luckily for her, Charles did not seem to return Janet’s feelings. In fact, he seemed to despise her. Noelle

She never imagined Janet could be so reckless or that her own son could be so callous, driving without a second thought for Janet's safety. Luckily, Janet had been at the side of the car, not in front of it.Had Janet been in front of the car, she might have been hit and thrown into the air."Janet, are you okay?" "Aunt, it hurts so much!" Janet clung to Clarisse, tears streaming down her face. "It hurts, Aunt. Why would Charles do this to me? He's found someone else. He's got another girl. Aunt, I can't stand it! Charles belongs to me. How could he just run me over? He had a woman in his car just now. I know he's with someone else.""There, there. Don't cry, Janet. I'm here for you, and Charles has really crossed the line this time. How could he treat you like that?" Clarisse was deeply disappointed by Charles's behavior. She thought Charles was just upset with her for leaving him behind years ago, but she never imagined he would stoop so low as to run someone over with his car.

Noelle's eyes sparkled with life as she caught a glimpse of desire in Charles's gaze, as bright as the stars. She quickly pushed him away, straightening up with a blush and a burst of courage. "What are you doing? Do you even know what time it is? Where are we? Get the car moving, now!"Charles composed himself, a barely-there smile on his lips. He playfully ruffled Noelle's hair with a twinkle in his eye. "Okay, sit tight!"Noelle made a face. "I've told you, I'm not a toddler. Stop treating me like one." She hesitated for a moment before adding, "Charles, your mother and Janet are a handful, aren't they?"Charles's expression grew serious, and Noelle realized it was not the best way to start this conversation. She forced a laugh and swiftly changed the subject. "I'm in the mood for stew today.""Stew again?" Charles raised an eyebrow, a hint of resignation in his voice as he looked at Noelle. "How many times is that this month?""What's wrong with that?" Noelle challenged, stand

Ronald breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe Charles was not going to make a big deal out of it.It turns out Ronald was right. Charles was not looking to make a fuss, considering the situation's urgency. Charles pocketed his phone and glanced over at Noelle. The stew had just been served, its surface not yet bubbling. Noelle watched the pot with a look of longing and impatience, its fiery red contents promising a spicy kick.Noelle noticed Charles had ended the call and curiously asked, "What's up? Aren't we on a break right now? Why are you still trying to reach Ronald?""Oh, it's no big deal!" Charles replied. He could not help noticing Noelle fidgeting with the silverware in her right hand, looking like she could not wait to dig in. Feeling a bit self-conscious when she caught Charles's gaze, Noelle sheepishly pulled her hand back. However, Charles was quicker. He caught Noelle's right hand, his dark eyes locking onto hers. He seemed captivated, inspecting her fingers as if they he

A playful glint danced in Charles's deep eyes. "Well, aren't you going to choose one?" he teased, strolling over to a display case to survey the array of rings.Noelle trailed behind him, casting only a brief glance at the collection before she hesitated. Charles caught her hand gently. "Not to your liking?"She shook her head. "It's not that. It's just that wearing something so lavish to work doesn't sit right with me." Noelle was mindful that her colleagues were unaware of her true status, and after the previous night's events, their perceptions of her had likely shifted. She had no desire to be treated differently in the workplace.Charles looked at her thoughtfully and gave a small nod. "What kind of ring are you thinking of, then?""Something understated and minimalist," Noelle mused, moving on to another display. She beckoned Charles over with a wave. "Hey, Charles, check this one out. What do you think?" She pointed to a ring that was the epitome of simplicity—no diamonds, n

Their gazes were cold and indifferent. Even at school, the way those elite students looked at her was filled with mockery. She was only five when her mother brought her to this bustling metropolis, leading her straight to this grand yet icy mansion. The people here were dressed elegantly, so dazzling that it was impossible to look away. Even though she loved him deeply now, Noelle still felt as if a part of her memory was missing. It seemed unfair to Charles.Charles simply smiled, lowering his head to place a gentle kiss on the corner of her lips."Alright. Whatever you want to know, I'll tell you." He agreed, his tone warm and unwavering. "But before that, I think we have something more important to do.""What is it?" Noelle looked up at him, her eyes shimmering with a misty glow that made Charles' heart ripple."Our wedding night, of course, Mrs. Hoffman."Noelle's face turned bright red in an instant. "But… we're in a hotel, not Phoenix Tree Residence!""It doesn't matter where we are. As long as I have you, that's all that matters."Tonight, every word Charles spoke was as if dipped in honey, making Noelle's heart race. She stole a shy glance at him. "But… my brother and the others are still outside—""Forget about them."Without another word, Charles scooped her up and carried her straight to the bed, b

"Charlie, I forgot about you. Tell me the truth—are you angry?"Charles sighed. "No, how could I ever be angry with you?"He reached out and gently tucked a strand of Noelle's hair behind her ear. Seeing the seriousness in her eyes, he let out a soft chuckle. "Even if you never remember me for the rest of your life, I still wouldn't be angry.""Really?"Charles nodded.Noelle hesitated for a moment, then mustered the courage to look straight at him. "Charlie… if—just hypothetically—if things between me and Xavier had never gone wrong… If Winter never came between us and I was still with Xavier… What would you have done? Would you have just watched me get engaged to him? Marry him? And then—"Before she could finish, Charles pressed a finger against her lips, silencing her.Noelle blinked and saw that his gaze had deepened. He wrapped his arms tightly around her waist."No. That would never happen," he said firmly. The very thought of her with someone else, marrying someone else

The moment Noelle finished speaking, the world seemed to fall silent.Charles' lips curved into a faint smile, his eyes glinting with amusement. Yet if one looked closely, there was a serious intensity in his gaze as he fixed it on Noelle. "Hmm? What did my wife just say?"Noelle shot him a sharp glare. "I don't care. Whatever it is, you're not allowed to read it. Give it back!"She pouted, her expression just as serious and determined.Charles raised an eyebrow, surprised by how adamant she was.Though curiosity tugged at him, he would not force her if she felt so strongly about it. "Alright, I won't read it."Hearing this, Noelle exhaled in relief and reached out her hand. "Then give it back."Charles' eyes glimmered with amusement. "I promise I won't read it now, but I'll wait for the day you show it to me yourself."After saying that, he placed the diary into Noelle's hand. Instead of letting her go, however, he pulled her into an embrace as if he wanted to merge her into h

So, that was why the name felt so familiar—because Noelle had known Charles since she was a child. No wonder, the first time she met him, his gaze had seemed to pierce right through her as if he were looking for someone else. Had he been looking at her all along?Noelle reached up and touched her own face, realization washing over her. The memories she had lost all this time… They were about Charles? Her emotions swelled uncontrollably. Moving carefully, she knelt before him, her gaze fixed intently on his face. She compared his features to the descriptions she had recorded in her diary. With a trembling hand, she reached out, stopping just shy of touching his cheek. She simply watched him, quietly, taking in his features. They were so similar to the ones she had once described in her diary. A sudden chuckle escaped her lips.Even though she still could not recall the details of how they had met, she could tell from her own words just how much she must have liked him back then. O

Noelle smiled softly. "It's nothing. He probably just drank too much."Tania handed her a cup. "Here's some honey water. Let my brother drink some later."She paused for a moment before adding, "Don't worry about Ice and Glitter. Peter and I will take care of them.""Thank you, Tania." Noelle had indeed been worrying about the babies. The adults could stay up celebrating, but Connor and Nora were only two months old. They needed rest."It's nothing," Tania reassured her. "This is such a big day for you two. Don't worry, we'll take good care of the kids. Most of the guests have already left, and Grandpa and the others have gone home too."Noelle nodded. "What about you?""Peter and I will take Bran home soon, but we'll stop by Phoenix Tree Residence first to check on the babies.""Alright.""Just stay here and rest for now. Sean and the others are still partying pretty hard. I doubt they'll be leaving anytime soon."After Tania left, Noelle tested the temperature of the honey

This wedding was nothing short of spectacular. Every moment was meticulously recorded by a dedicated team, with cameras set up throughout the venue to capture every detail of the ceremony from all angles.Charles and Noelle barely had a moment to rest as they moved from table to table, toasting guests with endless glasses of wine. The atmosphere remained lively and joyous deep into the night. It was not until the early hours of the morning that Noelle finally helped Charles to a private lounge on the second floor of the hotel.Though many had stepped in to shield them from excessive drinking, there was no avoiding the celebratory nature of the occasion. The alcohol had inevitably taken its toll. After settling Charles onto the couch, Noelle fetched some honey water and a warm towel before returning to his side.Charles lay slightly on his side, propping his chin up with one hand. Noelle sat beside him and handed him the towel, but he did not reach for it.Sighing, she called soft

Sean clicked his tongue, shaking his head in amusement. "Charles, your body is here, but your heart is clearly somewhere else."Then, as if making an even bigger discovery, he gestured toward a spot not far away. "Oh, I say, Charles, this is a real crisis. See that?"With the enthusiasm of someone who thrived on drama, Sean pointed at Noelle and Grant. "I don't know, man. That guy doesn't look like he's here with good intentions."Charles raised an eyebrow, his gaze darkening as it settled on Noelle and Grant. He gripped his glass a little tighter, but his eyes refused to move away from them. Still, his words were dismissive. "He's just another big brother-in-law. That's all.""Yeah, right. Just admit it—he's a strong rival."The second Sean finished speaking, he felt an icy stare pierce through him. Charles' glare was sharp enough to cut. "Hmm? What did you just say?""Nothing!" Sean swallowed hard, instantly backtracking. Dear god, a jealous man was terrifying!"You think he's

Grant's eyes carried too many emotions—too many things unspoken. Noelle could not fully understand, but she could sense that there was something significant behind his words. The diary in her hands had to hold something important that was possibly related to the past she had forgotten. Perhaps they were the lost pieces of her memory that she had always assumed were not crucial. She had assumed so because otherwise, she would have recalled them after all these years. Besides, they had not seemed to affect her life in any meaningful way.Over time, she had gradually let go of the idea of remembering.Yet now, with Grant handing her this diary, an unsettling feeling crept over her as if she had forgotten something incredibly important—something she could not afford to lose.Holding the diary tightly, Noelle felt a strange mix of emotions that she could not quite describe. She hesitated before murmuring, "Thank you."In the end, she did not ask Grant where he had gotten the diary.
