Chapter 1319

Author: Chweety
"Just the usual. Did you just get back from the project department?"

Noelle nodded. "Yeah. I had a chat with Mr. Parker."

She moved closer to Charles, who pulled her into a warm embrace.

Noelle was used to Charles's antics by now, comfortably perching on his lap with one hand casually draped over his shoulder and the other playfully squeezing his fingers.

"Having fun?"

She glanced up into Charles's deep eyes and nodded with a grin. "Totally!" She giggled and nuzzled his forehead with hers. "Charlie, I pop into your office every day. I hope I'm not bothering you!”

"Not a chance!" Charles inhaled deeply, the subtle scent of her perfume filling his senses.

He gave her a playful frown and gently squeezed his arm snugly around her waist. She was so touchable. Noelle tensed up for a second, her lips forming a cute pout. "Did I put on weight?"

Charles was speechless for a moment at her sudden worry.

"No way!" he replied, poker-faced.

However, Noelle was not buying it. She gave her w

"You're not fat at all!" Charles sighed softly, worried Noelle might doubt his sincerity. "You're pregnant, so it's natural for your belly to grow. Your weight will go up, and that's okay. You shouldn't be dieting now, got it?""Fine, fine! I was just thinking aloud!" Noelle was well aware of all that. She had merely let her words run away with her, indulging in a moment of drama. She was not really that out of touch with reality. However, realizing how thoughtful Charles was, Noelle's heart swelled with joy, even though she playfully retorted, "Easy for you to say! You're not the one gaining weight!""Noelle!" Charles massaged his forehead, feeling utterly at a loss with her. "Please listen. The doctor's concerned that you're too thin. If the baby doesn't get enough nutrients, it could make giving birth difficult. That's not good for you or the baby. Will you please listen?""Mhm!" Noelle mumbled, her lips pursed in a pout. "I know, I know.""If it bothers you to think about gain

"Ms. Shrill, aren't you the least bit curious about why I'm here today?"Shirley kept her back turned to Sean, thinking that he would forget about it if he could not see her face. However, she was just kidding herself. Sean was not the type to throw in the towel so easily. If he wanted something, he would chase it down to the ends of the earth.Sean chuckled at the sight of her turned back. "Such a shame. I really thought you'd be dying to hear about Kelly. I guess I was wrong."The moment Shirley heard Kelly's name, she lost it. "What did you do to her?! Did Harrison put you up to this? Listen here! If you hurt her, I'll make sure Harrison regrets it for the rest of his days."Sean's eyebrow quirked up in amusement. "Really? If something goes wrong with Kelly, is it automatically Harrison's fault? Why are you so scared of my Uncle Harrison? Did you do something to him that you regret?""I haven't done anything!" Shirley shot back with a fierce glare. "Quit defending him. No matt

Andrew nodded. "Samara, the woman you had me dig into, is definitely gone. But before she left Brookville, she made a pit stop.""Where to?""Briskwater. She popped into some tiny clinic but bailed quickly. Next thing you know, she's overseas and bumps into Ms. Liliana!"Sean's nod was slow, lining up the dots with what Liliana had told him. "And her kid?""Samara wasn't doing too well after the birth, and then she was out of the picture. The kid's been with Ms. Liliana ever since." Andrew watched Sean's face cloud over, an uncharacteristic storm brewing inside him. "Mr. Smith?""Who was Samara close to before she left Brookville?""Well...""Seriously, you didn't even find that out?" Sean's voice was icy, his eyes slicing through Andrew like daggers. "Come on, Mr. Smith. You know investigations aren’t my thing. Why put me on the spot?" Andrew looked like he was about to cry. "Why not ask Lareal or Ronald?"Sean just shot Andrew a frosty look and dismissed him with a flick of

"Keep your eyes on the ground. He can't just vanish into thin air!" Charles snapped, his voice icy. "Anything else?""It's over." Sean could tell by the way Charles was clenching his jaw that he was in a foul mood. "He's my Uncle Harrison, and your father-in-law, for crying out loud!"Charles squinted. "Do you think I should be nice to him?"Forget it.Sean might as well not have mentioned it.Sean shrugged, fully aware of the source of Charles's rage. Regardless of what had happened in the past, Harrison and Shirley leaving baby Noelle behind was simply wrong. After a moment's thought, Sean decided to keep Shirley's treatment of Noelle to himself for then. If he found it infuriating, Charles might just lose it completely. It was baffling how Shirley could treat Kelly and Noelle so differently when they were both her daughters. Anyone could see the injustice of it...."Sir, Ms. Shrill is being discharged from the hospital today!"Ellis brought the news to Harrison, who had n

"Aren't you afraid? Your lady's been locked up in the hospital by your nephew for ages, yet you’re hiding in your shell like a spooked turtle." Shirley's gaze was icy as she faced Harrison. "Harrison, you're just a coward!""Hmph! You'll see soon enough if I'm a coward or not. But yeah, I did want you stuck in that hospital," Harrison said, tilting Shirley's chin upward with his fingers. "Judging by how much you've plumped up in just a week, I guess you're not a total airhead!""What's that supposed to mean?" Shirley inhaled sharply. "Harrison, what are you planning?""Going on a hunger strike was the silliest thing ever. Don't pull that stunt again. Even if you're itching for a dramatic exit, don't starve yourself. With your looks and that figure, it'd be a shame. Starvation is just plain ugly, and I bet even the underworld would reject you!""You're such a jerk, Harrison!" Shirley knocked his hand away. "What do you really want? Haven't I paid back what I owe you?""Not even clo

Shirley shuddered at Harrison's words as if the memories buried deep within her were being torn open, raw and bleeding. "Stop talking. You don't deserve to say things like that!”"And who does? Flynn, the married guy? Or John Anderson, the patriarch of the Anderson family?""You're a monster, not a human!"Knock knock! The sound of knocking on the car window cut through the tension inside.Harrison squinted, then caught the lazy tone of the man outside. "Uncle Harrison, after all these years, you greet me with such a big surprise. It doesn't seem quite right, does it?"Harrison's dark expression came into view as the window rolled down.Sean leaned casually against the door, waving a greeting as the glass came down. "Hey, Uncle Harrison... and the lovely little aunt!" Sean's grin was all innocence, his eyes twinkling with mischief.Harrison's gaze was sharp. "It's been ages, Sean.""Sure has! They were taking her back to the Smith residence?"No, I won't go!" Shirley looked at Harrison and Sean in terror. She never expected Harrison to show up, and even Sean got involved. Despite spending so many years by Harrison's side, Shirley hardly understood him. Well, she had never truly tried. She might have known him when he was younger, but after everything that happened, Shirley felt there was an unbridgeable distance between them.As for Sean, she knew even less about him. All she understood was that he was Harrison's nephew. Her recent interactions with him still left her uneasy as she was certain Sean was no saint."Aunt Shirley, one would think Uncle Harrison and I bullied you from your reaction," Sean said with a sly glint in his eyes. He glanced at the driver in the front seat. "You know where the Smith residence is, don't you?"The driver stiffened and instinctively glanced at the passenger beside him. "By the way, should I call you Shirley now, or Madison?"Shirley's expression shifted abruptly. "Well, Mr. Smith has finally returned home. As an outsider, I think I'd better leave.""Stop right there!" Harrison's expression darkened. "Don't you dare walk out!"Shirley froze in her tracks as Harrison's voice rang out. "If you don't want Kelly to trouble you in the future, you'd better do as I say."Harrison reached out and grabbed Shirley's hand. The door was suddenly pushed open, and Kelly hurried into the room. "Are you alright?"A clear and crisp voice echoed above her. Noelle was initially startled, and she looked up to see that it was Kelly. The sight of Kelly replaced her pain with surprise. "You…" Why was she here? Before Noelle could finish her sentence, she bent over again, clearly in discomfort."What's wrong? Are you having an episode?""An episode?" Noelle looked up at Kelly, confused. "What episode?""I'm just experiencing fetal movement. The babies have been very active lately," Noelle explained, studying Kelly's face. The concern on Kelly's face quickly turned to surprise."Why are you here?"Noelle could not fathom why Kelly would visit. To her, there was not any connection between them—at least not one Kelly was aware of. Kelly's presence was baffling. However, she could not ignore the strange way Kelly looked at her. "I'm having twins, so my belly looks bigger than usual. These past few days, the babi

Grant's gaze flickered briefly, almost imperceptibly, before he avoided Kelly's question altogether. "It's getting late. I'll have Kresten drive you there."His words made it clear that he was not willing to answer. Knowing Grant's temperament, Kelly understood that pushing further would yield no results. She did not press the issue. "Then please watch over Seth for me. I'll be back soon."When Kelly went downstairs, she saw Kresten already waiting for her. Kresten quickly stepped forward and opened the car door. "Ms. Anderson, please get in."Kelly nodded and got into the car. As soon as she settled, she began to feel a twinge of regret. But deep down, she knew she could not turn back now.She wanted to see Noelle—the sister she had unknowingly been separated from for more than 20 years, someone who shared the same fate as her.The thought of having a sister was entirely new to Kelly. It was an odd and unfamiliar feeling. Memories of their past interactions flooded her mind. No

Seth nodded, tilting his head as he looked at Kelly. "Mommy, you cried."Though young, Seth was incredibly perceptive. Noticing Kelly's red eyes, his small, soft hand reached out to gently rub her cheek. He even leaned closer and blew softly on her face. "Don't cry, Mommy!""I didn't cry, not at all," Kelly said while patting Seth's back gently. There was an apologetic look on her face. "I just forgot to make dinner for you tonight.""Then, Mommy, let's eat out! Seth has money—lots and lots of money. Seth will treat Mommy to some meat!"Seth's sweet, innocent words made Kelly's eyes redden again, but she smiled and nodded. "Alright, Seth. Change your clothes. I'll take you out for dinner, okay?"Later that evening, Kelly sat holding Seth while watching TV, but her mind could not stop drifting back to Noelle's face.Grant's words replayed in her head: she and Noelle were full-blooded sisters, sharing both parents.Kelly looked down at Seth, her thoughts in turmoil. "Are you sure it's a virus?" Kelly asked, her voice trembling slightly."Yes," Grant replied with a firm nod, his sharp eyes fixed on her.He could see the disbelief and shock in Kelly's gaze, along with traces of guilt and unease. However, Kelly suddenly laughed, and she turned her head to face Grant. "Noelle has a virus, so she should go see a doctor. Why are you coming to me? Ha! It's ridiculous that Charles still wants to get me involved when his wife is sick. Why?""Kelly, this virus is extremely rare," Grant explained, his tone steady. "Sean currently doesn't have a clear treatment, but he mentioned one potential solution."Kelly's eyes flickered slightly, betraying a crack in her facade. "If there's a solution, then try it.""Sean believes we need to extract active enzymes from the blood of her closest relatives. Harrison and Shirley should already be at the hospital."Kelly froze again, her lips pressing into a thin line."Oh," she replied, feigning calm, though her emo

Grant noticed Kelly's reluctance to look at the documents and frowned slightly before speaking in an indifferent tone. "You don't have to look at it if you don't want to. After all, it's your decision whether to accept it or not."He placed the file on the table, his tone calm and detached, as though this matter had nothing to do with him. However, Kelly was far from calm. She glared at him, her voice trembling with suppressed anger. "If that's the case, why did you bring it here? Why did you agree? Why…"Her voice grew louder as she yelled at Grant, her emotions spiraling out of control. The noise startled Seth, who was sleeping in the other room.Hearing Seth's cries, Kelly immediately pushed past Grant and rushed into the room to scoop him into her arms. "Seth, don't cry. Mommy's here!""Mommy!" Seth clung tightly to her, his little hands grasping at her clothes."Yes, Mommy's here," Kelly murmured, cradling him as she gently patted his back. Kelly's feelings toward Grant were complicated. Growing up, her impression of him was not strong, and they certainly could not be described as having a close sibling bond.Later, Grant left the Andersons, disappearing to places unknown. When he finally returned, Kelly did not stay in Capiton for long before coming to Brookville. After that came the incident that changed everything, ultimately sending her abroad."Aren't you going to invite me in?" Grant glanced inside.Kelly frowned slightly. Although she seemed reluctant, she did not refuse and stepped aside to make way. "Come in. But I don't have much here, so I'm afraid I might not be the best host.""No problem."Grant noticed how much colder Kelly's demeanor had become. As he stepped into the modest apartment, he casually observed its simple layout. It was hard to reconcile this Kelly, living in such a sparse place, with the pampered young woman who once never lifted a finger.Feeling somewhat uneasy, Kelly closed the door

Kelly had been spending the past few days with Seth, whose health had improved significantly. After the recent incident, Kelly stayed in Brookville for a while, using the time to reflect deeply. One of the reasons she had not left Brookville was because of Seth's biological father. It had been almost four years. Not too long, yet not short either.Kelly thought she had let it go, but the DNA report comparing Seth with Maxwell made her hesitate once again. She always knew Seth was not Charles' child. She was fully aware of who the father was, yet his true identity remained a mystery.During those months four years ago, that man had stayed by her side, sharing a deeply unforgettable time with her. It was so unforgettable that she had pushed aside questions about his identity or purpose, choosing instead to immerse herself in the moment with him.Yet she was nothing more than a pawn for him to use against the Hoffmans in the end.Strangely, Charles had been absent from Brookville du

Grant's expression turned ice-cold in an instant. "What are you planning to do?""Kelly is Noelle's biological sister. Sean said only enzymes extracted from close relatives' blood might save Noelle. Whether it works or not, I have to try," Charles replied. His gaze was intense in a way Grant had never seen before.Grant had not expected to ever witness such an expression on Charles' face. He frowned deeply but eventually nodded. "I'll try, but she still doesn't know she's part of the Smith family.""You didn't tell her?" Charles was visibly surprised. He had assumed Grant would have already told Kelly the truth. Now, hearing that Kelly had no idea about her connection to Noelle or the Smith family, Charles was taken aback."I'll bring her over as soon as I can. Give me some time.""Fine, but don't take too long. Nelly can't wait," Charles said firmly. He understood that revealing the truth to Kelly and convincing her to help Noelle would not be easy. However, since Grant had ag

Sean emerged with a somber expression. "Margaret has confirmed that there's a fresh needle mark on Noelle's arm. That shadow from earlier must have injected something into her, which likely triggered her immediate symptoms."Charles clenched his fists, the sound of his knuckles cracking filling the tense air. "What's the plan?""Before the virus spreads too deeply, we could try using blood from Noelle's close relatives to extract certain components that might counteract it," Sean explained.Charles narrowed his eyes. "Be clearer. What are you suggesting?""This idea isn't fully tested. I only came across it in medical literature, and there's no guarantee it will work. If the virus hasn't invaded her bone marrow, we might still have a chance."Charles' expression eased slightly, but a hint of apprehension lingered. He glanced at Sean, who hesitated before continuing. "We need to call in Uncle Harrison and Shirley. Ideally, we should also bring Kelly here.""Fine!"Harrison arrive
