Chapter 08

Author: Lord Leaf
The next morning, Claire brought the file filled with proposals that she had prepared overnight and went to the Emgrand Group office with Charlie.

Standing in front of the 100-story building, Claire suddenly felt as if her heart was hollow and empty.

How could such a magnificent company like Emgrand collaborate with the Wilson family? Not to mention that they were aiming for a thirty million dollars deal.

It was like a beggar approaching a wealthy man and asking for a thirty million dollar change. It was absolutely ridiculous.

However, she had promised her grandmother and accepted the challenge in front of everyone, so she had to go for it no matter what…

Sensing her anxiety, Charlie stroked her head tenderly and said, “Dear, don’t worry, go ahead, you’ll make it. Trust me.”

Claire sighed dejectedly and murmured, “Alright, let’s hope so! Wait for me here.”

She took a deep breath and walked through the door.

As he watched her walking in, Charlie took out his phone and called Doris.

“Doris, my wife is going up to see you as we speak. You should know what to do!”

“Yes, Mr. Wade. Don’t worry, I’ll fulfill your missus’s every request.”

“By the way, I heard that Emgrand Group has a rather close connection with the Jones family. Is that true?”

“Yes, we did have a lot of projects with them, completed and ongoing. They wish to collaborate with us again on this new megaproject and they’ve submitted the proposals and materials for my review. However, it is up to you to decide, Mr. Wade.”

Charlie said coldly, “I don’t want the Jones family to be involved in the new project and any other projects in the future.”

“Yes, sure. Don’t worry, I’ll do as you say!”

Meanwhile, Claire walked into Emgrand Group’s office building and waited for her appointment at the front desk. She didn’t even know if Doris Young, the company’s vice-chairman, would like to see her.

Not long after, a graceful female assistant approached her and began, “Hi, are you Miss Claire Wilson? Miss Young is waiting for you in her office, please follow me.”

Claire nodded in a trance. She was still waiting in line to make an appointment, how did Miss Young know she was here and call her in already?

Could it be that Doris Young knew she was coming?

It didn’t make sense though…how could a prominent individual like Doris Young know about her?

Although she couldn’t figure it out, she might as well grab the rare opportunity as she was given. She quickly followed the assistant and she was escorted directly to Doris’s office.

Doris stood up from her chair and greeted Claire respectfully. “Hi, Miss Wilson, I’m Doris Young, vice chairman of Emgrand Group, nice meeting you.”

Claire was a little nervous as she met the most famous businesswoman in Aurous Hill. She spoke, her voice trembling anxiously but staying calm, “Hello, Miss Young, thank you for seeing me. I’m here to talk to you about the hotel project. Although Wilson Group is not as strong and prominent as other companies, I can assure you that we work very hard and have established a very positive reputation in the interior design and decoration industry!”

She handed over a document file and continued, “Miss Young, this is Wilson Group’s portfolio, please have a look.”

Doris smiled gently and took the document from her. After a brief glance, she said immediately, “Miss Wilson, I’ve seen your documents, I think you are the perfect partner for us.”

“Really? Is it true?” Claire gaped in bewilderment. Why did it go so quickly and smoothly? It was a little too easy, wasn’t it?

Doris said with a smile, “Of course. I admit that Wilson Group does not match our requirements and qualifications, but our chairman thinks highly of you and he is willing to give it a shot.”

“Your chairman?” Claire said in a shocking tone, then asked, “May I know who your chairman is? ”

Doris smiled faintly. “Our chairman is Mr. Wade from Eastcliff.”

“Mr. Wade?”

Claire frowned in confusion. “I don’t think I know anyone by the last name of Wade except for my husband.”

Doris nodded gently. Charlie had ordered her not to disclose his identity, so she could only say that much.

Other than Charlie Wade, Claire didn’t know anyone by the last name of Wade, but she would never have guessed that her useless husband, who was an orphan, would be the Mr. Wade that Doris was referring to.

Then, Doris added, “Miss Wilson, I see in your proposal that your quotation for the agreement is thirty million dollars?”

Claire nodded anxiously and asked timidly, “Is it too much?”

Doris smiled and answered, “Oh no, it is actually less than what we have budgeted for.”

Claire furrowed curiously. “What do you mean?”

“Our chairman told me to increase the quotation to sixty million dollars.”

In the middle of the conversation, Doris retrieved a contract and handed it to Claire. “Look, we’ve drafted the contract in advance for a total of sixty million dollars. If you have no problem with it, we can sign the contract now.”

“Huh? This…”

Claire gaped, dumbfounded.

She had never expected that Emgrand Group, which seemed so unreachable from Wilson Group’s perspective, would prepare the contract beforehand!

Moreover, the amount had doubled!

Grandma’s goal for the project was 30 million dollars, but the contract literally stated 60 million dollars in black and white!

Suddenly, she recalled her husband’s serious and earnest face when he had asked her to accept the task at the family meeting the previous night.

Why was he so confident?

When they were at Emgrand Group’s entrance, she was very doubtful and pessimistic, but he seemed so positive and undaunted.

Could it be that he had known the outcome all along?

Who was he...

When the air stewardess returned to remind Bosco it was time to board his flight, he stood up, bowing his head at Barlin and Bowen. "See you in a year, brothers!"They both smiled and wished him, "Good luck!" Bosco smiled back. "Thank you. I wish you both the best of luck as well!"With that, he turned and followed the air stewardess out of the VIP lounge. With him gone, Bowen asked, "So? How long do you plan to stay in Antarctica? Do you have a next stop in mind?"Barlin replied casually, "Not at the moment. I'll just see how it goes."Bowen laughed, "If you ask me, you shouldn't bother with Antarctica. Why don't you come with me to America? People always called America paradise, a nation of indulgence and decadence. Now that you have a year to yourself, why not enjoy it? Lady Fleur only told us to go looking for anything we can use, but nothing about producing results. So? What do you think?"Barlin shook his head and chuckled, "Never liked crowds. I'm not about to indulge wh

Just because you reached a certain point in cultivation, the Cosmic Order would somehow strike you with lightning to assess if you were really worthy? If there really were a Cosmic Order, it would be busy dealing with millions of galaxies, trillions of stars, and countless planets throughout the universe. In short, they were way too busy for some insignificant lifeform on one of those countless planets. Honestly, whatever made those cultivators think they were worthy of the Cosmic Order's attention?Indeed, Barlin believed that the so-called "Trial" was more like a cultivator meeting the minimum requirements for selection. The judges simply noticed you and are giving you a shot at a better prospect, while the lightning bolts were an appraisal and nothing more.Survive, and they open the portal for you to perhaps join their ranks. And then once again you find yourself a nobody, caught at the bottom of an entirely new hierarchy. After all, there was always a bigger fish. That was

"If the myth is true, it'd definitely be the Monkey King," Bosco replied without hesitation. "Born immortal and then ascending as Buddha? There's no disputing his godhood."Barlin nodded in agreement. "Exactly. If the Monkey King is real, he's a divine Buddha—a class above even immortals."Pausing, his tone shifted as he continued, "Now, have you considered that the Monkey King's somersault cloud only covers the distance of 37,000 miles? Even if we're talking about 37,000 miles per second, it would only be about one-fifth of the speed of light. "In other words, even if the Monkey King—already divine—could only manage that much, the cultivators who are a class beneath would never reach the same level of ability. Since the Monkey King is a far more enlightened being anyway, all the centuries they spent in cultivation only end up with them falling short. So tell me, is spending hundreds of years cultivating a blessing or a torment?"The other two elders could swear they got tinnitus

Barlin nodded, and warned, "You must be extremely careful while you're interacting with modern society, as there's this CIWS thing that reduced one of our best men to mincemeat. Tarlon was saying that nonsense will chase you down while also being too fast to outrun, even changing directions if you did. It would have seen you before you got too close, and would have launched dozens—if not hundreds of shells straight at you. No human being stands a chance."The other two elders nodded repeatedly—in fact, the more they learned about modern technology, the less faith they had in dharmic cultivation.Pausing, Barlin sighed out loud again. "I'll be honest. Before I went into seclusion, I thought I would have nothing to fear once I stepped out… Only for us to improve in cultivation, but the world also improved even more in just a hundred years. "Think about it, a hundred years ago, a cannonball could at most destroy a small boat or a house. Just 80 years ago, a bomb could level an entire

In the VIP lounge, Bosco—bound for Kathmandu, was the first notified that he could board his flight. A pretty air stewardess approached him, bowing her head respectfully before speaking in fluent Oskian, "Mr. Griffin? You may board your flight at the terminal, but we have a buggy waiting for you if you like. Would you like to depart now or wait?" The three high elders were raised as youths in the Qing Dynasty. Now, after emerging from a century of seclusion, they quickly crammed knowledge about the modern world, but still couldn't quickly grasp foreign languages. Fortunately, Tarlon was considerate enough to arrange for Oskian service personnel to assist them in advance. Bosco asked her, "How long do I have?" The air stewardess replied, "Twenty minutes, sir. Business and first-class passengers will be boarding first, while economy-class is expected to begin boarding in ten. We can use the VIP passage from this lounge, which leads directly to the jet bridge. Until then, you

Back then, Barlin's comrades were recruiting new members to their cause with paganist rites and invocations, gaslighting recruits into believing that they were physically invulnerable… which naturally was a complete lie.But then again, not all of them were charlatans, as Barlin once encountered a comrade down south, who was practically a cultivator.Although Barlin had already attained enlightenment, Fleur made him disguise himself as an ordinary peasant to infiltrate the ranks of other rebel cells to gather intelligence. It was during one of those paganist rites, that one of the senior figures gathered everyone around and told them a story—perhaps to boost morale, about a special denomination before the Degenerate Age of Dharma. He said that before the Degenerate Age of Dharma came, the world was filled with powerful cultivators, who set up countless sects. Their strength was many times greater than that of cultivators in the Degenerate Age of Dharma, and transcendence was com
