Chapter Four

"Mummy!" I shout frantically looking around the empty woodland, I kept tripping on little branches from the trees that had fell, it was dark, cold and wet "mummy I'm scared, mummy where are you?!" I cry out as rustling could be heard behind me, I whip my head around nearly falling as I went.

"I'm not your mummy, but I'm gonna make sure you are scared" a man's voice evil sniggers behind me.

I wake up in a sweat looking around my little room, that's a memory I haven't thought about in a few years. I turn to my clock to discover it's 4am, well that wasn't a long sleep. I rip the blanket from me swinging my legs to the side, maybe I needed a walk to clear my head. I grab my coat from the wardrobe and slip it on, not forgetting to grab my keycard as I went, there's been a few times I've forgotten that and have been left outside for hours!

As I open my bedroom door, the hallway was dark and creepy, the only light was the green fire escape light, which only added to how creepy it was. I make my way down the creepy hallway until I reach the door, I scan my keycard the familiar beeping noise echoing down the hall. Once the door opened I get blasted with cold air, well that certainly woke me up. I pull my coat tighter around myself before leaving the building, it was lighter out here than in that corridor! Don't these people know what lightbulbs are for?!

I start my little walk silently, I had so many different thoughts just swirling around my head. Mostly surrounding Toby, he really isn't gonna let up about the mate thing. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do, I never even thought I would get a mate! As I lost my wolf when I was younger, myself and all the others around me just assumed my mate would be lost with it. Then when I looked into Toby's eyes, I just knew he was mine and I was his. Don't get me wrong, I am happy that I've got a mate, but finding him has just brought up so many obstacles! There is no way I'm gonna leave the alliance but I know when he leaves, I'm gonna miss him like crazy! That's if he'll leave without me in the first place. I wasn't actually going to reject him yesterday, even as the words were leaving my mouth they made me feel sick. It felt nice to see that someone was actually fighting for me, normally I'm just forgotten about.

When I snap back out of my thoughts, I discover that I'm stood right outside the main door to his bedroom. Okay how did I end up here?! I even had to swipe my keycard and didn't realise I was doing it. I stand outside the door for a second just staring at his bedroom, a part of me so wanted to go in there and see him. But he would be asleep right now as like I should be and then it'll prove that he's right, which I can't let happen as he'll know I need him more than I'm letting on. I sigh before walking away from the room and back towards my own, which was in a different building.

We have the main building where we work, but than we have dorm buildings. The guys from our team have one block together, but as I'm the only girl on our team, I get a whole corridor to myself. When Lukas and Toby are granted clearance, they will go into the buildings where all the guests sleep. But until that happens they have to stay in our building, where thankfully, only our team ever enters.

I open the main door to my corridor again, the green light flickering this time. There wasn't any point to me trying to fall back to sleep, so I head in the shower hoping that would wake me up and put my mind off my mate for a second.

I was the first in the office this morning, even before Morgan! Now that's shocking as it's like that dude doesn't sleep, he's always in the office when we arrive in the morning and is the last one to leave at night. I switch all the lights on, heading straight to the files that were still on the counter. Last night after I took the guys to their rooms, we started to write all of Richards attacks and his victims on a huge whiteboard in order. We were hoping that somehow we would see a pattern along the way, so far all we've deducted from this work is how much of a monster Richard is. I was pinning some photos on the wall as Morgan walks in, his face was a picture when he saw me working this early.

"Taylor, you're awake early" he says surprised while I just smile, if only he knew how long I'd actually been awake for.

"Yeah couldn't sleep" I smile turning to pin another photo up, it was of a man called Max who was Richards 7th victim.

We don't speak for a few minutes, but I would catch him giving me a few looks before looking away again. I could tell by the look on his face that he was trying to work me out, maybe he's wondering why I couldn't sleep.

"Do you wanna talk to me about something?" He asks breaking the silence, I take a look up at him sat at his desk not knowing what he was getting at "something to do with an Alpha" he says which does make my eyes go wide as I stare at the board, did Toby tell him?

"You know don't you?" I ask taking a look over at him for a second, he looks at me with a little smile and a nod "how?" I ask putting the photos I was hanging up down, I really hope Toby hasn't gone around and told everyone, especially Riley.

If Riley found out I've found my mate who's an Alpha, he probably would never talk to me again! He hates Alpha's and Beta's, when he was younger he watched his old Alpha and Beta kill his father. That's the main reason he's been off with Lukas and Toby, he simply doesn't like to be around their company.

"I heard the conversation you were having when you first brought him in" he says standing up from his desk as I let out a sigh, it was easier when this was my little secret "this is a good thing Taylor" he says walking over but I shake my head.

"That's what I keep trying to tell myself but when I start to think about it more, I see all the problems that come with me finding my mate. There is no way I'm leaving this place but there is no way he's gonna leave me!" I say finally getting all the feelings I've been holding to myself out, hopefully this will help me come up with a decision.

"There's more to life than this place, yes we will miss deeply as you're our best agent, but you've found your mate Taylor, you should be celebrating!" He said trying to make me feel better, but I was pass that point.

"From the day you saved me from dying by that lake, I've wanted nothing more than to be part of the alliance. I have not worked basically my entire life just to throw it away for him, let's be honest none of us thought I'd even have a mate" I sigh jumping up on one of the tables, while Morgan just stands in the same place with his arms crossed.

"If I could choose between this place and Amelia, I would choose Amelia every time" he says which does make me look up at him, Amelia was his mate that got killed by the one and only Richard "the feeling you get when you're around your mate, well it's indescribable. Now I will support you on any decision you make, but just know if he leaves here and you stay, it'll be the hardest thing ever" he tells me which is what I've been feeling, I even walked unknowingly to his room last night just to be close to him.

Before the conversation could continue, the side door opens and in walks Brandon. I send a nod and smile to Morgan before helping Brandon, it looked as though he was gonna drop everything.

"Taylor, you're awake early" he says surprised as I take some files off him to place on the table, maybe I need to start waking up earlier.  

Morgan goes back to his desk to start to fill stuff out while Brandon and I chat, mostly about the case but he kept asking me why I was up so early. Mid-sentence Morgan turns to me. 

"We need two of you to head to Toby's pack to look for evidence, focus on the places where Richard left the threat, only if Riley would hurry and wake up" he sighs looking down at his watch as he went, then an idea popped.

"How about me and Brandon go, we'll probably be back by the time Riley wakes up" I suggest which was a shock to Brandon, he never goes out and does stuff like this "the sooner we collect the evidence, the closer we'll be to finding Richard" I say which was a fact, also I wanted some space between me and Toby, just to know how it feels to be apart.

"That would give Brandon some more experience, yeah okay" Morgan smiles throwing me the keys to one of the cars, I smile taking Brandon by the arm and pulling me out the side door.

Yeah let's see how this feels shall we?
