“Ah, Mr Marshall, it’s good to see you again. Congratulations on your engagement.” A short robust man said as he shook Gabriel’s hand.

Gabriel flashed a professional smile at the man.

“Thank you, Mr Brown. I’m delighted you could make it.” He replied politely.

The robust man let out a heavy chuckle as he turned to his wife that stood beside him.

“We couldn’t miss this for the world. After all your father and I have been good friends for a long time.”

“Of course, this is something we couldn’t miss.” His wife reaffirmed.

Gabriel could see her eyes were on him, checking him out, sizing him up in a rather indecent manner. She flicked her blonde hair away from her shoulders and finally looked up at Gabriel.

“Your fiancee is rather lucky if I may add.” She cooed.

Gabriel chuckled lightly and smiled, the characteristic and professional smile.

“Why, thank you.”

“Speaking of fiancee,” Mr Brown piped in. “Where’s the wife to be?”

“She’s occupied entertaining visitors at the moment.”

Gabriel flinched, he was disoriented. He tried to grasp the situation around him. He looked over at Selina, her hand that contained the wine glass was now empty and it was trembling, trembling so much Gabriel started to worry. He looked down to the ground and finally found the wine glass, but it was beyond recognition as it was shattered to a thousand pieces on the tiled floor.Gabriel looked around. The guests in their vicinity that had obviously heard the noise were staring in their direction, some whispering with their hands over their mouth. He needed to contain the situation.“Selina, what happened, you seem sc-““Ah, forgive me, it seems I startled the bride to be.” The man, standing in front of them, said, loud enough for the other guests to hear.Selina stood frozen like a rock, her eyes glued to the man in front of them. Gabriel was bewildered, curious. He was about to speak to Selina again, but the man in front of them walked closer.“I’m so sorry, Mrs Reed, or should I say

“It seems like we’ve been seeing each other lately.” Tory said as soon as she approached Melissa.Melissa, who was sitting on a bench in the small park a few feet blocks away from her apartment looked up and her friend and a wry smile appeared on her lips.“Well, I guess you can say that.”Tory sat down beside her and exhaled, her breath was visible.“Looks like it’s getting colder.”“Mm, yeah.” Melissa replied absentmindedly.“You sounded sad on the phone this morning, is everything okay Mel?”Melissa sighed and her eyes wondered around the quiet park. It was a little after 7pm. The sky had changed from a bright blue, to a darker blue. The park which always looked fun and jovial, was now shrouded in darkness, giving off a solitary feeling. The swings and play equipments in the park had casted dark shadows to the ground as the moon popped out from within the thick grey clouds. The park was quiescent, and it perfect for Melissa to air out her thoughts.“I definitely would be lying if I

The black car came to a halt close to the entrance of the park, which was close to were Tory and Melissa sat. Melissa grimaced as she got a view of the car that she was familiar with. The window to the front seat opened and Melissa felt her stomach churn as she gazed at the person sitting in the car.It was Jack, the loan shark. He was grinning at her and his long black hair was tied up in a man bun.“Hey, I was driving around the neighbourhood and I spot you sitting in this dark park looking all depressed. Couldn’t help but stop by.” He said, grinning from ear to ear.Tory tugged on Melissa’s shirt to get her attention.“Who is he?” she mouthed.“Loan shark.”Tory let out a small gasp.“What do you want now? The week isn’t over yet.”“Come on, you think I’m here to hassle you for money? don’t be ridiculous, this really is a coincidence, but since we’re on the subject of money...”Melissa got up from the chair, fists clench.“I said I’ll pay you this week.”“Mel, you do know it’s Satu

Melissa swiped out a handkerchief from her pocket and dabbed her forehead quickly. She was nervous, very nervous. After getting accepted for the job of a marriage event planner, she was scheduled to meet with her client for more details on the job.She was here now, at the location the client had texted her. Melissa wasn’t nervous at first, but as soon as she stood in front of the tall skyscraper, her anxiety went into full over drive. This was obviously a big company, filled with people who were high class, a place she didn’t fit in.Melissa looked down at herself. She tried her best to look professional as she wore a feminine suit with heels. Her hair was tied up in a neat bun and a clip was placed at the left side of her hair to avoid strands from slipping down to her face. Melissa exhaled for 20th time and finally gathered courage to enter the building. The entrance had a glass door which slid open as soon as she stood close to it. Melissa mouthed the words “wow” as soon as she st

Melissa shut her door behind her and sighed. She was exhausted from spending the whole day out while wearing heels and a suit. Nelly had taken her all the way to the place where the wedding would hold to give her a feel of it. They had spent practically all day there and it was refreshing finally being home.Melissa kicked of her heels and picked them up as she walked to her room. She went through her usual routine of having a shower, drying her hair and settling down on bed to arrange her thoughts. Today was very productive and Melissa was happy. She had gotten a down payment for the job was was extremely thrilled. The money would be enough to her debts for this month and sort out Brandon’s college expenses, at least a part of it. Melissa sighed. Things were looking up. She was about to drift off when a soft knock on her door alerted her. She got out of bed and lazily swung the door open.“Brandon...” She said, surprised.Brandon was looking down at her, his face blank.“What’s the

It wasn’t long before Melissa was thrown into a whirlwind of work. Nelly had sent her the detail for the wedding, the colour theme, list of guests, types of food and wine to be served, and other minor details Diana wanted in the wedding. Melissa had people working under her. Decorators, caterers, the whole event centre was filled and buzzing with them. The tension was getting to Melissa since she had to instruct everyone on what to do, how to arrange the decor and furniture, and the theme for the wedding. Melissa tried her best to make everything as perfect as Diana wanted it to be. She has done her part and the day of the wedding was already here.Melissa took a step back to admire her work. The hall was large. At the centre was a long runway lined with thick white carpets. It had rows of white ornamental flowers inside tall golden vases lined at each side of the long runway. White wooden chairs were arranged by rows on each side of the runway. At the end of the run way was a platfor

“No, no the clams go along with the lobster and the butter goes with both of them.” Melissa instructed the caterer holding a large plate filled with cooked, hot steaming clams. The caterer nodded and scurried away. Melissa rubbed her temples and moved a strand of hair away from her eyes. Her hairdo she had carefully done, didn’t look as good as how it did when she looked in the mirror.Sighing, Melissa walked away from the buffet table and looked around. The hall was streaming was guests and they all sparkled in there expensive clothes and designer accessories. The atmosphere alone made Melissa feel insignificant, a small ant in the midst of larger creatures, backing away so she wouldn’t get trampled on.Surely, her short pleated gown with a flower pattern and a v cut neck could never stand a chance against the fabulous clothing adorned on each woman’s body. Her jewellery didn’t even stand a chance against the sparkled diamonds and pure gold earrings and necklaces dangled on the ears

Diana spun around completely as she glared at Dolce.“What? What nonsense are you spouting right now? Do you think I have time for silly jokes?” Diana hissed at her.“But Mrs Marshall! I’m not telling you a joke right now! I’m being dead serious! Miss Selina is gone!” She exclaimed.Dian grabbed her wrists.“Keep your voice down!” She said in a hushed tone as she looked around, checking to see if anybody was looking in their direction.Dolce covered her mouth with shaky hands and nodded.“Now, tell me what happened.” She demanded.“I-I left the d-dressing room t-to get Miss Selina a-a drink-“Diana clicked her tongue and grabbed her wrist harder.“Speak properly! I can barely make out what you’re saying.”Dolce swallowed and nodded sheepishly.“Well, after that I got back to the dressing room and it was empty. I thought Miss Selina had stepped out for a bit and waited for a few minutes. But she wasn’t coming back so I decided to go around and look for her. She was nowhere in the hall

Melissa wasn’t mistaken. Gabriel was with someone else, and a woman at that. From the way Gabriel was, Melissa would never have imagined him to be the promiscuous type. She stepped away door and began to pace around the room. Melissa was curious, very curious to see who is was. She didn’t know why, maybe it was because she spent all day in this room doing almost nothing and was looking for a source of entertainment. There was no reason for Melissa to be interested in Gabriel or any of his affairs, but her interest was quipped and she needed to satiate it. Melissa walked back to the door and twisted the door knob slowly. Her room door swung open and she tiptoed out carefully. Melissa walked quietly down the corridor, her long night gown bundled in her hands. She got to the large opening and followed the voices to the top of the stairs. Melissa peered down at the living room and caught a glimpse of Gabriel. He was sitting on the sofa with a girl straddled on top of him. She couldn’t s

She took another sip and sighed.“I don’t know how to answer that question.” She said flatly.Kyle could feel Cora tugging at his shirt, but decided to completely ignore her. Diana cringed at the sound of her husband’s name. It also made her boil with rage. She didn’t want to see him right now, but they definitely needed to talk. He had the audacity to bail out on the wedding when she specifically told him not to. It was infuriating. After that day, the internet was streaming with questions asking why Mr Marshall didn’t show up or why she was all alone during the wedding. Diana sighed and picked up her cup of coffee, throwing it in the bin beside her.“Let him in, and bring me another coffee Nelly, sugar free.” She said and placed down the receiver. She went back to the documents on her table, but it wasn’t long before John Marshall stepped into her office. He had a smile on his face as he plopped down on the sofa.“This office is still as elegant as ever I see.” He chirped.Diana looked up from the documents and frowned at the sight of him. He wore a loose fitted t-shirt with a jacket, blue jeans and a pair of sneakers. It was astonishing how he could dr
