Note: Chapter by John's vision!
I knew I couldn't continue my life the way it was, and as much as I knew my mother was right about hiring someone to take care of Bryan, I still felt awkward about it. The one who had always taken care of him was his mother, Sullivan, and now, having to find someone else to do that, it was as if I had accepted the fact that she was no longer here, and that I was moving on.
I remember to this day when I got the call from the hospital informing me of the accident, I was in a planning meeting and rushed to the hospital, but when I got there and they told me that she had not survived her injuries from the accident, I felt my whole world come crashing down.
Sullivan was my first girlfriend, fiancée, and wife, she was the only one in my life, and when she was gone, I felt lost, even though I knew I had to gather what little strength I still had left to raise our son, who was still just a baby. The police investigated what had happened, but according to the security cameras and witnesses, Sulli had run the red light and had not seen the truck, and I really wanted to know what was going on in her head to have been distracted like that.
So, following my mother's suggestion, I contacted a babysitting agency, and every day they sent someone different because Bryan would not accept anyone, and always cried, and in the end I had to drop everything and go back home. But when my assistant told me about her friend, who was also a mother and needed a job, and that I could take the test with her, I immediately cheered up. After all, a mother always has a better understanding of a child!
I needed to take the reins of the company and had lost several contracts due to lack of time for meetings, and even though I loved my son, I needed help urgently, and my mother had her own things to take care of, so I couldn't always count on her.
"Sir, my friend that I commented on yesterday, she's here!", Sabrina spoke entering the room after knocking twice on the door, and today, since it was an important day, I asked everyone to arrive early, and if we could finish the acquisition of a development, they could take a whole day off.
"Hi Sah, could you ask her to come in, please?", I spoke smiling, and she nodded, and I went back to paying attention to the contract from before, until I hear the door close, and two steps towards me, but did the person seem to be embarrassed?
When I lifted my head, and saw who was in front of me, I felt my heart stop, and the air fail me. After almost 5 years, she was in front of me again, and even more beautiful.
I was sure she was the girl from that night, and even though it was only one night, I never forgot her.
At the time I was not yet engaged to Sullivan, we had quarreled and decided to take a break, each of us could move on with our lives, and then, I met this woman, but never found out who she was, and as luck would have it, she appeared in front of me again, but didn't seem to recognize me.
"Mr. Carter, I'm Eliza, or you can call me Liz, and I've come for the babysitting position!", She spoke up taking me out of the world of thoughts I was in.
"Eh... Liz, right?", I spoke getting up and walking towards her. "Have we met before?", I asked, and she looked a little thoughtful before answering.
"I don't think so, sir!", She replied with a shy smile.
"Oh yes...", I replied without amusement, after all, I remembered her, but why didn't she remember me? "Please, sit here?", I said giving her some space, and she sat down in front of me. "Tell me a little bit about yourself?", I asked, and she started talking about herself.
"I'm Eliza, but I prefer everyone to call me Liz, and I think Sabrina commented to you, that I have a small 4 year old son, and I'm a single mother, so I know how to take care of children very well.", She spoke shyly, and I smiled, but something inside me puzzled me.
If she had a 4-year-old son, then that means she was already pregnant that night, or she got pregnant later, but she really didn't seem to remember me.
"You can just call me John, I prefer everyone to call me that," I joked with her. "After all, I'm only 32, I'm not that old."
"You got it, John!", She spoke smiling.
"And while we're on the subject of us, I believe Sabrina, also mentioned to you, that my son and I lost our star a year ago, right?", I said trying not to make the mood too heavy, because every time I talked about Sullivan, it seemed that tears formed in my eyes, and that made me more sensitive to people. "And I need someone to help me with him, and everything is a test, right? I've already had a babysitting agency come to the house, but he hasn't accepted any of them, so, I'm kind of desperate, because, even though I love my son, and want to be the super dad, I also have to work, and since I lost my wife, I ended up neglecting a lot of things in the company, and fortunately, I employ several people and I know that they depend on me, and if our turnover has dropped, I have to cut expenses, so, I need to get my company back to what it was before, but for that, I need Bryan to have someone by his side when I'm not there. "I spoke quite sincerely, and Liz looked at me intently, as if she felt my every word. "And since you are already a mother, and have experience in this area, maybe, you can win him over!"
"Don't worry, I will treat Bryan as if he were my own son, little Arthur. "She spoke seriously, and then took out her cell phone, and showed me her son, and right away I was startled.
"This... this is your son," I asked to be sure, and she nodded, smiling, "He looks like someone I know," I said looking at the picture, and if it wasn't too much of a coincidence, I could swear that child was my son. He had the same hair as me as a child, and even the expression, if they took my picture as a child and this child's, they would say it was the same person. "Does he stay with his father?", I asked like one who wanted nothing, in fact, I was throwing green to reap ripe.
"Actually, he doesn't have a father, it's just me!", She replied a bit annoyed by the question, and that just piqued my curiosity even more. "It's a long story, but I always try to be the best mother I can to him. "
"I understand!", I replied trying not to get into it so much as not to make her uncomfortable. "I just need to make a call, and then we can go, I'll ask you to wait for me outside, I'll be right there in a second," I asked, and she nodded, stood up, and left the room without saying anything else.
"Andrews, can you come here for a moment?", I asked my trusted secretary, actually, I had two secretaries, Roberta who was Sabrina's boss, and was responsible for taking care of my schedule and the office stuff, and I had Andrews, who was my secretary responsible for taking me to appointments and negotiating in my absence with clients, and also, my right hand man when I needed something.
It didn't take Andrews more than five minutes to walk into my office, and I pointed to the chair in front of me, and he sat down apprehensively.
"I need you to investigate one person for me, anything you find out, even your son's information," I spoke at once, and he stared at me curiously.
"And who would be the person you want me to investigate?", Andrews asked.
"My new nanny!", I replied, "I want you to find out everything you can, including the father of her child."
"Yes sir, and when do you want that for?", He asked.
"You are the fastest person I know to get information, so if possible find out today, I would be very grateful!", I replied as I knew his ability to get things.
"Yes sir. ", He replied and then said goodbye and left the room.
I knew, that I would be able to solve all my doubts when I had this report, I wanted to know, who is this Eliza, and if she really was my girl of 5 years ago.
As I left the room, I found Liz talking with Sabrina and Roberta excitedly, and showing them her son, who talked about how beautiful he was.
"So, shall we go to my house? So I can introduce you to my son?", I said approaching them, and Liz just nodded and followed me. "Girls, I am going to take Liz to meet Bryan, I should be back soon, you can call me if anything happens, is that okay?"
"Yes sir! And good luck, both of you!", Sabrina replied winking, and I smiled, even though I was older than them, I felt good to have someone to trust.
After an unusual conversation with my newest boss, we left the office and went to his house so that I could meet his son. John seemed to be a calm man, a loving father, and he missed his late wife very much, but what made me a little crazy was to feel that he had a curious look about me, as if he already knew me, and no matter how much I thought about it, I couldn't find an answer, because inside me, it told me that I had already met him somewhere. When we arrived at the parking lot, he pressed the alarm of a black car, and I almost fell on the floor when I saw which car it was, a Lexus Ls 500h, and I knew very well what the price was, it was enough to buy the whole building I lived in and the building next door, the value of the car was nothing more, nothing less than one million reais! I even got in the car carefully, I didn't want to damage anything, because I knew that a scratch on this car, was 5x my salary, and even though I dreamed of having one of these since I was still th
"Ah yes, I think I have heard about the Muller family," I commented without wanting to focus too much on the subject. "Madame Carter is very good friends with Mrs Muller, but she doesn't think it would be a good idea for the two families to get together, after all, it seems there was a big scandal involving this family in the past, so they have been trying to regain their position ever since. ", And I admit that I was curious to know more about what Anna had to talk about, but I preferred her to speak on her own, without me asking anything. "But, since madam passed away, Mr Carter hasn't felt like anything else, and I don't even know how he took the initiative to hire someone to stay with his son, so, welcome, Liz, and if you need anything, you can call me, now come on, I'll show you around."Anna spoke walking in front of me, and I just followed her in silence, and from what I could tell, the second floor was just the living room, the dining room, and the kitchen, and upstairs were
As soon as we arrived at Arthur's school, John and Bryan stayed in the car, and I ran towards the principal's office, but when I got there, to my surprise, my parents were here too."Hi, can I help you?" The principal spoke seeing me. "I came to pick up Arthur Muller, they called me informing me that he was not well." I replied ignoring the presence of the two who were looking at me. "And you are his what?" The principal asked. "Because they are his grandparents and they said they came to get him!" She explained, and then I stared at the two in disbelief. What do you mean, they came to pick up my son? Even more so without telling me? "I am the mother, and I forbid them to have access to my son, and if I find out that the school has even considered letting them pick up my son from school, I will sue you!" I said firmly. "And on whose authority did you come to pick up my son? Who allowed this? You were just going to pick up my son at school, so what? Don't you think the mother should
If you told me my life was going to take this 360 degree turn, I would never believe it. I urgently needed a job, and no matter how hard I searched, all the answers were: No. After all, who would want to hire a 27-year-old woman, who just graduated from high school and is already the mother of a beautiful boy named Arthur? Yes, and to help it along, I don't even know who his father is, because everything happened so fast that night that only memories remain, and to help it along, I don't remember his face, only that he had a birthmark on his right breastplate, and on his back, a tattoo of a budding flower, which I had no idea what it meant. So how to find this man with only these memories? Impossible! So, not having the father present and not knowing how to find him, I do what I can to raise my little one, since he is all I have, and I admit that in the beginning it was quite difficult, with the rejection of my family when I found out about the pregnancy, and my father's request to a
I woke up the next morning around 6:00 a.m. and even though I was extremely nervous, I needed to look calm in order not to scare Arthur, because I don't know how, he could feel how I was. Every time I was nervous, he was nervous, and every time I was sad, he was sad too, it was a unique connection we had. I hated the fact that I had to wake him up so early and disturb his sleep that seemed so pleasant, but life wasn't fair to anyone, and I would do everything to make it even better and never have to wake him up so early again, and who knows, give him a father, something that I wasn't even able to give him, and that hurt me, especially when he asked me where his father was. "Mommy, I don't want to!" he said, throwing a tantrum to wake up, and just started crying, and I had to be strong, because I wanted to say "I went back to sleep baby," even though I couldn't. "Don't do it like that my love, mommy has to work, and I promise there will come a day when you won't have to wake up so e
