"Knock, knock" Catherine knocked on the door.
Amanda sighed. This is the fourth call coming in already just this morning and she's already finding it irritating. This was why she switched off her mobile. "Come in, who is it this time?" Amanda questioned her COO dropping her pen and shifting her gaze to her 2-feet brass door that reflected and refracted all the light rays in her office. Catherine opened the door and got in gently, then shut the door behind her. She looked at Amanda and didn't say a word. She looked scared. "Who is it? I have enough unsigned contracts information to review, make it quick." Amanda barked. Still, Catherine remained silent. She only held the buzzing phone in her hand and streched it out to her boss. "Is it my dad this time?" Amanda asked and glared straight into Catherine's eyes with a timorous awe. "Yes it's him boss. He insisted on speaking with you, or threatened to halt all pending projects throughout this week!" Amanda grinded her teeth and presumed fear. It was clearly engraved in her face at this moment. She stretched out her hand in return and snatched the phone out Catherine's hand. "Leave! I'll call you when I need you" she spat unfavorably. Catherine quickly turned back, opened the door and hurriedly dashed outside then shut the door behind her. After staring at the phone apoplectically for some 5 seconds, she swiped the 'recieve' button on the screen picking the call. Next, she paced her hands towards her ear and and waited for the other end to speak first. "Amanda" the voice did call out as expected. It was an old man's voice. Not very old though, probably in his early 50's. "Dad, I am very busy signing some contracts with various Architectural companies and surveyors pertaining our new project that…" "Listen to me right now!" The voice cut her abruptly not minding the crucial pending words. "I will only say this once and I will not repeat myself again. You, Amanda Winston will accept the marriage proposal of Colton Blake, son of the second wealthiest family in New Hilton to keep our name running high. "I accept no contradictions henceforth". The man spewed rapidly and furiously. "Father, what have I not done to ensure the growth of this company, every single project you left behind is being processed and worked on, all our foreign clients are…" "I said no more contradictions young woman! You are only a woman and won't be fit to run a company. You need a man by your side. "I will accept no contradictions. I repeat. You do not want me to take this to greater heights." The call ended instantaneously. Amanda kept the phone still, placed against her ear. Tears were already flowing down her beautiful cheek. She looked at the photograph frame of her mom that was placed on her glass table. Flash back made her cry. If only she were here, things would be much better. The pressure from her dad was making her run mad at this point! "Knock knock" came again from the other end of her door after some 3 minutes of reminiscing. Immideately, Amanda took a piece of cloth and wiped her face, then, she quickly took a spray and dispersed into the air. She then put her glasses on, arranged her seating position and frowned a little as usual. "And what is it this time Catherine? Come in." Amanda called out defiantly. Catherine entered and closed the door gently. "Boss, it's one of our big partners Sir. Colton. He's here, again, and demands to see you." She said. "Mr what?!" Amanda was left in shock and was dumfounded. What the heck was the devil doing here again? "And why didn't you ring me before he got into the waiting room?" Amanda asked, this time, calmly. "Well, your telephone is not connected. You said you needed no more calls remember?" Catherine defended gently and proudly. Amanda sighed. At this point, she wanted to just slam her hand on her table and break it, but she maintained. "Let him in." Amanda said reluctantly and turned her chair backwards, relieveing a heavy sigh through her mouth and nostrils. She stared at the big glass and could see the luxurious tall buildings of New Hilton right around her, She could slightly see her reflection. The Winston's company was quite a massively tall structure. Every other buildings were either very small, or medium sized. Amanda could not really comprehend just why her father, Mr. Winston insisted on her getting married to Colton. Ever since her mother died in the mysterious accident, things have gotten from worse to critical. Her mother was the only person who could keep Mr. Winston her husband calm and quiet. Amanda craved for that power. For one thing, she hated Colton, for the other, she hated Colton with earnest passion. Colton finally knocked gently on the door, disrupting her erstwhile painful thoughts. "C.omee inn" Amanda forced from her mouth. At her word, the juvenile Colton Blake marched into her office and closed the door behind him staring straight ahead. Colton was quite a man with defined muscular structures that were clearly visible even behind his thick suit. The black sunshade he wore complimented his abase looks. He never took them off. An arcane no one could phantom. As he walked towards Amanda, his black tincted hair flew gently towards north, opposing the direction of the air conditioning. He then grabbed the swivel chair for visitors and sat on it sharply without the CEO's permission. "Trust you're having a great day huh?" He finally spoke moving his body left and right with the help of the chair. His voice was sexy, tbh. Deep, yet soothing. "You know, you need to take good care of yourself as my future wife eh?" Colton chuckled. Amanda just stared at him with contempt and said nothing. Ever since he broke her heart back in college for no just reason, and disappeared during her mother's burial blaming her for her mysterious death, she knew that he was a devil. She knew that she was foolish to have loved him with all her heart. Her heart bled once more. Now, she is the CEO of the Winston's company, he's coming out from the dark. "Look here lady, your father is your father and you must obey his orders. I'm not a bad person for a husband am I?" He laughed again slightly. He then stood up, placed his muscular arms around his behind and began walking to and fro in her office. "Your father plans on making this a contract marriage. And he wants to sign it without your permission, that is, if of course you do not comply dear daughter. "So, let's do this the easy way. Love me by force, let's get married and retain your position as the CEO, or disagree and get a forced marriage. "The ball is in your little court" Colton ended staring directly into her heavy boobs then licked his tongue. He chuckled once more. He then headed for the door and opened it. He turned back, looked at Amanda, smiled evily and slammed the door with a great amount of force. Amanda let out another heavy sigh of relief after he left. She was getting tired of all the threat from her father and the Blake's family. She picked up her crying session once again. ****** It was dusk, and the twilight princess could be seen bathing in the sky. The drive to the bar was quite a long one. Amanda ordered her driver to stay put. She wanted to drive herself to the Lynch Bar in the heart of New Hilton. It was a mighty bar. It's façade was Architecture at it's best. Cars had already been parked in the park area. All the outdoor recliners and ZGL chairs had been occupied by either one person drinking his joy in, or a couple displaying passionate affection. She got into the Premuim section of the bar without hesitation which was on the first floor, the first decking using an elevator. She was welcomed with much respect and honour as soon as she stormed into the bar and then, she found herself bumping into one of the comfy armchairs. The manager of Lynch Hotel rushed out from his office to pay greetings to Amanda like a dog to it's master. Amanda just winked at the old man. "I want to be alone" she commanded, after which he reluctantly left. Each sofa in the premium area had bronze attached to them. The handles, upper loose back attachment and the legs. Quickly, one of the waitress rushed to her without hesitation. "The usual. I kept my phone switched off and could not place an order." Amanda said without looking at the face of the young lady. She was already lost in thought. Quickly, she went away to get her order ready. Each group clique talked about Amanda's presence. Their whole attention was now focused on the young lady. She infact had the power to shut the whole bar down at this instant! She was the daughter of the richest man in New Hilton. It was worth talking about you know. She rarely or never comes to the bar. When she does, it's because she needs to relieve her depression. And that was she did. As soon as her cocktail was brought to her, she began to sip and sip, then drank a full cup mercilessly. "Get me four bottles now" she commanded. And the waitress ran off hurriedly. Amanda drank and drank hoping that each bottle would fill the void in her heart and lessen her depression. She was in a high state of melancholy, and the only solution was some more bottles of cocktail. She kept drinking that she drank to stupor and could barely see anyone or anything. Once she noticed that, she demanded that everyone leave the premium area at once. She shut it down to avoid embarrassement. Everyone obeyed and left, even with a little mumur from a few. Amanda despite her high state requested for a room to sleep off her high state. "Just tell me where to go, I don't need your hands guiding me." She commanded after one of the secretary attempted to lead her to a VIP inner room. She began to stagger, struggling to follow all the directions. She suddenly came to a stair-case somewhow. By now, her visions were already so vague that she couldn't stand properly. All her worries were supressed by this time as she had hoped. She leaned forward to take the stairs. She was alone and no one followed her as she commanded. Her first four steps downward was successful despite the stagger and blurry vision. As soon as she stepped on the fourth case, she unconsciously let go of the handrail and began to fall back to the ground. She rolled and rolled and began tumbling down the staircase. The staircase kept dancing before her eyes. She finally dropped from the last step and was almost crashing herself on the ground. Suddenly, a young muscular man from nowhere jumped at Amanda and sliding beneath her like a superhero, he grabbed her waist line on one hand and her head on the other hand, before her head touched the ground. Was she actually alone? Had someone been following her? Did Colton plan this?Colton fumed with anger and stormed into his room. There were already a few strippers waiting patiently for him in his room all half naked displaying their bodies. "All of you, get the hell outta here! Can't you f*cking see when I am not in the mood?" He screamed as soon as he sighted them. Quickly, all frightened, they dashed out of his room in sequence. They sure didn't want the wrath of their lord on them. It could mean death. Colton roared like a hungry lion, scattering everything his hands could lay on. None of the maids or househelps entered at that point. He could play with a broken glass. It happened several times. Colton ripped his suit open, allowing air to have passage. He walked to and fro, scattering some more items in his room. He then angrily shoved his hands into his pocket and took his phone out. He dialled his father Mr. Blake. Fumes escaped his nostrils like an angered bull. "Any updates son?" Blake asked as soon as he picked up the
Ethan gasped in shock and amusement. He had entirely forgotten that he called Beatrix to come over. "Shhhhit" he whispered under his breath. His heart began to pound hastily. Beatrix was too fast. He prayed that she wouldn't suspect anything. He quickly puts Amanda back to bed without hesitation and dresses her properly. He then made sure the bed cover didn't look so textured and rough. He then tucked his tuxedo in properly and stiffened his collar as well, adjusting his staff badge to look more professional. He made sure his trousers were aligned. He then walked quickly towards the door. "Nothing happened. She won't know. She was drunk. She asked for it! Goddamn it!" He then took a deep breath in and relieved it, reassuring himself. "Where's she? How did she get here?" Beatrix screamed as soon as Ethan pulled the electric door open. Beatrix was a beauty queen. She looked like one of those celebs. She was a tall, pretty, blonde lady. She had a low skin opa
Slowly, Ethan shoved the two cards back into his pocket gently as soon as he locked gaze with Colton. His mind flew high. Sweat gradually dripped from his face even though he was standing adjacent to an air conditioner. Ethan thought of going back upstairs and even running away from the bar, but it was already too late. "You mean this bartender saved Amanda? It's crazy don't ya think?" Colton asked, not seeming too interested in the guy. "Well, if that's what he claims, then, what's the big deal? Miss CEO is fine by the way." Beatrix ended. Ethan could not believe this. He thought of calling Jameson right away, but he held on for a bit. He tried all he could to make sure that no one noticed his phobia, so he simply smiled at Colton. "Let's get the fuck outta here!" Amanda commanded, somewhat aware of what was happening. "Alright, see um… why don't I accompany you to make sure she's safe. I mean, that's what friends are for right?" Colton offered to walk towards
"So, in view of that, we wish to show our utmost respect and gratitude to all who has shown support in their various contributions to support the project. "We want to specially thank Winston's company for their massive support to the government in constructing the first longest bridge in human history. "To honour their rather extreme supplement, we wish to announce that the name endowed on the Bridge is 'Lady Winston's Bridge.' The whole crowd cheered unanimously looking towards Mr. Winston. Some, though, clapped reluctantly as they were confused as to why the new bridge in the city should be named after the dead Mrs. Winston. Blake's face flared up. Everything that displayed on his face at this point was extreme antagonism. He looked at Mr. Winston as he stood up from his sitting spot and went to the platform. Mr. Winston was all smiles as he took the stairs and shook the governor and other press members. "Despite his wife's death 3 years ago, he struggled to
Before the security could reinforce and attack, the armed men in masks were gone. Everyone was shocked to the bone as they couldn't comprehend how those thugs got into the hall despite having very tight security. Blake fumed in anger and stormed his fist on the handle of his wheelchair, it mistakenly pressed a button. The hall became filled with security personnels of each of the attendants carrying them quickly to safety. Soon, Blake's phone rang. His body suddenly began to quiver in fear. The name of the caller was just a code. '7665'. Blake refrained from answering the call at first, but he shamanised. "One simple job, and you failed me. Now, I will do as agreed. I will proceed with the withdrawal of all ongoing projects between us" a man spoke coldly from the other end of the phone and ended it. "Shit! Nooo…" Blake screamed in agony and then hurled his phone to the ground almost too hard. Thankfully, it didn't obtain any crevice, just a scratch. Blake's co
Ethan trembled, so he moved further away from where Amanda was to speak with La Muérte. "I want to see you in Corway street at exactly 01:am. It's not a choice. You don't come, you'll die!" The voice said and ended abruptly. Ethan began to shake in fear. He had never feared any human like the popular La Muérte. Why would he ask him to come over to a street as lonely as Corway by 01:am? Ethan knew he was in trouble. Back in Mexico, Corazón city, everyone who heard the name melt in fear. Even the prevous governor dreaded the anonymous killer. Thanks to the new elected governor who vowed to subdue the serial killer. This news made him evacuate the city, never to be heard by anyone ever again. Now, all Ethan wanted was to go back to his country, far away from this murder. "Are you okay?" Amanda asked Ethan as soon as he returned. Ethan wasn't so sure, but his skin felt sweaty at this point. All the courage in him had been evaporated. Ethan simply smiled and nodd
Amanda sat still besides her father. She watched as the life machine beeped in sequence. It was a very long night. The machine clock that hung suspendedly on the wall beeped as the time hit 11:00pm. It was quite dark outside. The room was dead silent, and one could hear the drop of a pin. Mr. Winston was quite an elderly man who had an unstable health. The slightest fear could increase his blood pressure. Ever since Mrs. Winston died, her husband's health just deteriorated immensely. "What exactly happened?" Amanda finally asked Miss. Kristen, her father's personal assistant. "Well, miss, I wasn't practically there at the hall the moment the hoodlums attacked, but, thanks to his security personnels, he was quickly grabbed and carried away. He fell to the floor on the process and had a fracture in his left arm" Kristen answered and lowered her head. Amanda's mind was swelling with questions. Was this a set-up? Does Colton have anything to do with this? No! He ca
It's was 12:30am. The noise that ruled the city died down and awoke another midnight noise. Silence. It was a firmly established law in the city that all social gatherings and events must be put to a halt once it's past midnight. Ever since the city lost a very precious woman, Mrs. Winston, the city had not been so secure at midnights despite the security status. The case of her mysterious accident was still a case pending in court. Lawyer Ramzy vowed to get to the root of it and trap down the murderers. It's been 2 years now, yet, all Ramzy's hope proved futile. Ethan had made up his mind to just run away, far away from the city as Jameson had told him. Jameson had offered him money to travel out of the city that very night. But something told him to stay behind. He didn't know what that thing really was, but the one thing he was certain of easy that it was connected to Amanda. He had just fallen in love with the CEO of a massive company, and he had just gotten the
"Hey babe! Come, come come. Take a look at this!" "What is it again Hun? You just got back from work. You should have rest." "Okay, you remember I dropped my application letter with Swinda Agrochem right?" "Yeah. I do. What about it? You got the job?" "Not only did I get the job, but I was given instant promotion to be the sales manager! Crazy right?" "Hold on. This doesn't make any sense. You were just employed in the biggest company in the city. And here you are saying you were given an instant promotion? Look, I think you've taken too much alcohol today. Let me put you to sleep." "Oh, you're not my mother. Don't carry me. Your hands are not that strong as a matter of fact. Alright, look at it. My employment letter and confirm for your big eyes!" He grabbed the phone from her hand and saw the read the Email that was displayed on her phone screen. "This is…possible! We're rich. Haha.. we're rich!" He said then knelt down to speak with Nancy. "When you come to this wo
"Ethan Albert!" Mr. Chester said sarcastically and laughed. "You know, being the governor of New Hilton, I highly respect and, maybe fear you! You've got some fuckin guts." He said and began to walk his way through the crowd gently. He then knelt besides Ethan's bed and smiled. Holding his hand up, he placed them on Ethan's head, probably to feel Ethan's temperature. "I wonder how you're able to escape. It's intriguing. You're alive and getting better Ethan Albert. Don't you want to meet your dear Jameson in heaven? Huh?" The governor didn't wait for a reply from Ethan. He simply stood back up, scanned the room and while everyone was yet watching, he dipped his hands in his pocket as if to pick up something. Amanda suddenly stood up. "Mr. Governor, I'd say it's best you'd leave so we avoid further complications. Ethan here has committed no crime and therefore has no charges against him. New Hilton has to hear the truth. Someone needs to say it!" She said with confide
Lois stood outside the restroom, her heart aching for Nancy. She could hear the cries and pleas from inside, the desperate longing for her mother's presence. Lois gently knocked on the door. "Nancy, my dear, please open the door. Let me in. We can talk," Lois said softly, her voice filled with compassion. But Nancy's voice came muffled through her sobs, "Go away, Granny! Leave me alone! I want Mommy!" Lois fought back her own tears, understanding the depth of Nancy's pain. She knew she had to find a way to reach her. With a heavy sigh, she took a deep breath and began to sing a familiar lullaby, the one Kristen used to sing for Nancy and Kamsi. "Hush, little one, don't you cry, Mommy's watching from the sky. Though she's gone, she's always near, in your heart, she's always here." As Lois sang, the words carried the warmth of a mother's love and the gentle reminder of Kristen's presence. Gradually, Nancy's sobs quieted, replaced by sniffles and hiccups. Finally, Nancy opene
Zach sat besides his wife crying profusely. He hated himself so much that he regretted ever getting married to such beautiful innocent woman. He just didn't deserve her. He has never deserved her. He wished Kristen would just live. Just… just open her eyes, or shake her fingers or do something. With every strength in his body that managed to control his tears, Zach pleaded endlessly to Kristen's body, begging for her just to show a sign that she was still alive. Zach couldn't just believe that his wife. His own dear wife whom he married, whom he bore 2 kids for, 2 beautiful girls for, was dead. It just.. just didn't sound right to him. Speaking of his girls, Lois finally allowed the girls to come see their mother. Kamsi and Nancy were numb. Kamsi was wailing out loudly. "Mommy please mommy! Please, just get up mommy. Look, daddy's here. Granny's here. Let's go to the beach. Please mommy!" Kamsi kept crying refusing to succumb to any of Lois's kind words. Nancy on the ot
Ethan's words echoed through the airwaves, carrying the weight of his harrowing experiences. The revelation of the governor's sinister actions sent shockwaves through the hearts of those who listened. In his passionate plea for justice, Ethan recounted the governor's desperate attempts to conceal his secrets. He spoke of the hospital attack, where he, Amanda, and Adrian had visited Beatrix, the governor's daughter. Adrian, who possessed vital information, had been living in hiding, constantly evading danger. The room fell into a heavy silence as Ethan shared his own abduction at the hands of the governor, accompanied by Colton and his father, Blake. He described the intense torture he endured, the threat to his very life. In that dark moment, it was the courage and intervention of Officer Don and Detective Ryan that saved him from the brink of death. His voice carried a note of urgency as he addressed the listeners, his words resonating with a mixture of concern and determin
Colton's anger surged like a tempest within him as Ethan's words struck a nerve. He couldn't fathom how this man, whom he had meticulously planned to eliminate in that caravan, now stood defiantly before the world, exposing their darkest secrets. His fists clenched in a mix of frustration and disbelief. In his office, Blake shared in his son's astonishment. His mind raced to comprehend the implications of Ethan's survival. He reached for the telephone, intending to call Colton and discuss the unfolding crisis. However, before he could dial the number, the phone rang with a shrill urgency, revealing the caller ID: Mr. Chester, the governor himself. Fear gripped Blake as he hesitantly answered the call. The voice on the other end was filled with seething rage and menace, unmistakably that of Mr. Chester. The governor's furious words lashed out at Blake, threatening him and Colton with a slow and agonizing demise. Mr. Chester seething with anger spoke "Blake, you spineless fool
As Don declared that it was time for Ethan to go live, the room fell into a hushed anticipation. The cameraman swiftly set up his equipment, positioning the camera, laptop, and microphone before Ethan, ready to capture every word he would speak. Taking a deep breath, Don looked at Ethan with a mix of encouragement and urgency. "Ethan, now is the time," he said firmly. "Tell the world everything you've faced, everything you've seen. The governor can no longer hide." Ethan nodded, his heart pounding with a mixture of nervousness and determination. He knew that this moment would change everything, that the truth had to be exposed. With a steadying breath, he turned towards the camera, knowing that his words would reach millions of people across social media platforms, billboards, and TV shows. "Greetings, everyone," Ethan began, his voice tinged with both vulnerability and strength. "I was just a lowly boy who left Mexico in search of greener pastures in New Hilton City, known as t
As they continued their conversation, a gentle knock interrupted their discussion. Catherine hurried to the door to see who it was. Outside stood four men, dressed in heavy attire that concealed their faces, as if they were secretive workers who preferred anonymity. Curiosity filled the room as Catherine let them in, recognizing their true identities. Once inside, the men shed their elaborate garments. The first man was Officer Don, followed by Detective Ryan. The third man introduced himself as Adrian, while the fourth individual appeared to be a cameraman, equipped with a laptop, camera, and microphone, as if prepared to interview Ethan. A mixture of emotions washed over everyone, as they were overjoyed to see Don and Ryan. Catherine couldn't contain her excitement as she looked at Don. "Don, it's been so long! We've missed you," she exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine warmth. Don smiled warmly at Catherine. "I missed you too," he replied, his eyes reflecting a m
It was a beautiful morning, and Ethan sat upright on the hospital bed, surrounded by Amanda and Beatrix. The room was filled with a sense of relief as Ethan had regained consciousness, marking a significant step forward in his recovery. Engaged in a friendly conversation, the three of them shared a moment of warmth and joy. Amanda's love for Ethan radiated from her every glance, her heart yearning for his complete recovery. She had missed him immensely during his ordeal and cherished every precious moment they could now spend together. Among them was Catherine, Amanda's Chief Operating Officer, providing support and offering her presence in this pivotal moment. The camaraderie in the room was palpable, a testament to the bond they shared. Curiosity sparked in Ethan's eyes as he observed Amanda's changed appearance. He noticed a slight weight loss and signs of exhaustion etched upon her face. Concerned, he asked, "Amanda, you look a little slimmer. Have you been goin
