Chapter 3

MAYA

“Congratulations ma'am, you're pregnant.”

I stared at the doctor, half expecting he'd burst into laughter and tell me it was a joke.

But he had a smile on as he congratulated me.

No, this can't be. The timing. The situation.

Everything was wrong.

I can't be pregnant now.

My divorce is going to be finalized in a few days.

And now, I have a baby.

“I'm sorry to ask this, but is there a possibility that this is a misdiagnosis?

The doctor stared at me

I'm just telling you this, based on your symptoms. It's very likely that you're pregnant.

But it'd be best if we wait for the rest results, you can fetch the results at the reception.

The realization dawned on me. I was truly pregnant.

I followed the doctor's instructions and collected the test results from the reception. I realized I was truly pregnant

I sunk into a chair at the reception. I don't know whether to tell Alexander about the pregnancy or not.

What if he thinks I'm trying to get out of the divorce? He could barely tolerate me as it is.

But I have to tell him. I can't raise a child all by myself.

I just clocked eighteen a few months ago. I'm barely an adult, how will I cater for a whole human being all by myself?

I'll have to tell Alexander about the pregnancy, I'll face the consequences later

Even if he hates me, he can't hate his child.

I recognized some of them as Alex's bodyguards.

I made to walk past them into the ward when one of them stepped in front of me.

“What are you doing? I want to go inside.” I said, eyebrows raised.

“I'm sorry, ma'am, but we were asked not to let you in if you come around.” He said in an unfriendly voice.

“I just want to talk to my husband. I won't be there long.” I said a small crack in my voice.

“We can't let you in.” The stoic man deadpanned.

I took a few breaths to calm myself down.

“Okay, no problem. I'll stay back. Can you call Alex for me? I want to talk to him.”

He turned and went inside the ward.

He walked out of the ward after a few minutes, his expression more stern than when he walked in.

I wondered what Alex must have threatened him with.

“He asked you to leave.”

“But I just need to talk to him for a few min–”

“Please leave, ma'am.

I swallowed hard, my heart tightening in my chest. I nodded slightly and walked away. I should just go home.

It's no big deal if he doesn't want to see me. He doesn't have to know about the child.

If I hadn't told Alex today, I would never have had the chance to tell him about the pregnancy.

He hasn't answered any of my phone calls  .

There is no other way I can reach him.

I decided to wait in the hospital lobby till he came downstairs.

It started to rain and the temperature dropped drastically.

Not long after the rain stopped, I saw Alex descending the stairs, surrounded by his bodyguards.

I jolted up from my seat and rushed to him but was stopped by his bodyguards.

“I need to talk to you.” I half yelled. I was about ten meters away from him.

Alex didn't slow his pace to listen to me, he continued walking towards that exit.

Determined to get him to hear me out, I walked after them.

“Alex, please you have to listen to me. It's very important. Please.” I was on the verge of tears.

Alex didn't spare me a glance as he stepped into his car.

. I fell on my butt. The car drove off, splashing mud water on me.

I just got home,I  pulled out my suitcase. Grandma Loretta had already purchased the ticket.

I was leaving for London tomorrow.

But I failed miserably.

I couldn't stop wondering how I was going to raise a baby alone.

I pulled out my phone and went through my contact list and all of my social media accounts. Maybe I can find someone willing to help. But I couldn't.

I felt a little dizzy and decided to take a nap.. I set the alarm and sank into bed.

A loud knock on the door jolted me from my sleep. The knocking on the door persisted and I grudgingly got out of bed.

I opened the door to see a super pissed Alex standing in front of me, stomping his feet in pure rage.

The sun was low, golden light bathing the flowers.
