Chapter 6

Lucas POV

I couldn’t believe the unbelievable connection I had with the little girl. We went along quite well, and she ended up revealing to me everything about her mother.

What kind of mother has been so harsh to her kid?

What kind of mother does she have?

I watched her frown slightly, and she accompanied it with a pout, but that greatly reminded me of someone again.

“She is a real devil, mister. I don’t know why I’m telling you all this, but my mother hates me.” She complained to me.

I sighed and adjusted on my seat.

The two of us finally rested at one of the lounge’s chairs, discussing her mother. I hadn’t met her, but I couldn’t imagine how devilish she was. How could she be so cranky towards a little girl?

I leaned closer to her.

“Do you want me to call the cops on her?” I asked her.

She sighed dramatically.

“I don’t want to do that. She is still my mother; at least she clothed me and fed me. I’m always grateful for that.” The little girl told me, and I loved that.

I didn't expect that to be that smart.

“So what are you going to do about her? Are you going to keep living that way?” I asked her.

She sighed even more.

Even though I had just met her, I couldn’t understand where the connection came from. We were talking as if we had met a long time ago, or probably like a father to a daughter.

“I just met you today, but you seem like a good man, mister. I wish to have a father like you.” She said, and I smiled softly.

“By chance, do you have a child?” She suddenly asked me.

My face dropped a little hearing that. I would have probably had that some years ago, but it didn’t work out.

“Not yet.” I smiled at her.

“But I will be getting married soon,” I added, and I could feel my cheek getting red.

I couldn't wait to get married to Lisa. I love her, and it was always my dream to.

“I’m jealous of your bride." She pouted.

"She is getting married to a good man. I hope my mom meets someone like you.” She skfhed and lowered her head a little before resting her back.

I smiled softly and leaned closer to her, ruffling her hair.

“I’m sure she will,” I mumbled.

But I doubted if such a woman as she has described could meet a good man.

“But unfortunately no one wants to marry her because of how cold and rude she is.” The little girl told me as if she had been reading my mind, and she sighed even more.

“Is she that bad?” I asked, squinting my eyes.

She nodded, looking so frustrated.

She suddenly leaned close to me.

“Or, will she like to adopt me?” She asked, and I couldn’t help but laugh out this time.

Why would she say that to a total stranger like me?

“Don’t laugh, Mister.” She frowned slightly at me.

“I'm sorry about that. I just couldn’t help it.” I apologised.

My next words were interrupted by my phone that buzzed. I glanced down at a call coming from Ken.

For a minute I had forgotten the main reason I was at the hotel. I had lost track of time while having conversations with the little girl.

“Sorry for the interruption.” I apologised to her and muted my phone before slipping it back into my pocket.

“It’s nothing. You can pick up your call.” She told me, but I shook my head negatively.

I didn’t want to do that. I felt like she needed me at the moment.

And for Ken, I could call him back even though my whole life and my marriage were at stake.

I cleared my throat and adjusted to my seat facing her properly.

“I’m sure she will change. I mean, your mother, just try to talk things out with her.” I told her.

She sighed instead.

“Mister. I would rather find my dad than try to talk things out with her.” She told me.

“Or are you interested in finding my dad for me, Mister?” She asked, raising her brow a little.

“Y-your father?” My brows snapped together.

She nodded firmly, looking so determined, like she was ready to put herself up for adoption.

Is that how devilish her mother is?

She was about to say something again when she was suddenly interrupted by a loud voice that thundered across the lounge.

“Daphne!” A voice screamed.

Hearing that, the little girl in front of me sudd frowned.

I didn’t know what was going on, but the little girl suddenly jumped up from where she was and ran into my arms, wrapping her hands around me.

I was left stunned. I couldn’t do anything other than gently hug her back.

But just at the same moment I heard some thunderous footsteps echoing through the room, and I could feel someone from behind approaching us fiercely.

“Let go of her right now, you crazy man!” I heard a voice behind me.

I was left in shock.

Crazy man? Is the voice referring to me?

“Stay away from that man!” The voice yelled even more.

No doubt I was being referred to.

Being left utterly shocked, I let go of the little girl and turned in the direction where the voice came from. But I was left in more shock.

I could see a woman standing tall, a little far away from us. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she seemed to be fuming with anger at the moment.

She was no other person than my ex-wife.

The same woman I divorced four years ago, the lady who was back to ruin me, Sienna.

What was I expecting in the first place? I had come to see her. She had lodged at the hotel, and I should have expected to run into her.

I didn't want to believe it at first, but she was really back.

I didn't expect her to try to disgrace me in public. But how could she recognise me?

I sighed, looking so disappointed seeing her. My face turned red, reminding me how she had been the one behind my downfall. She had always been behind my downfall! She doesn’t want me happy even after I divorced her.

I turned back to the little girl, trying to hide my anger and disgust.

“Let's get away from here and look for your mother,” I told the little girl.

I could see Sienna was ready to fight me at that moment, but I wasn’t ready to do that, especially in front of the little girl who saw me as an angel.

“Let’s go away from here,” I added, grabbing her hand, but I didn’t expect Sienna's voice to come loudly again.

“I said, Let go of her right now!”

I could hear her loud footsteps as she approached fiercely with rage.

The little girl's eyes were totally fixed on her, and suddenly she said a word that left me completely confused and numb.

“Mom!”

Did she just address Sienna as her mother?
