Stella was aware of her good fortune, yes. That she could get married again should satiate her. Her heart sank, though, when she saw that Estella didn't appear depressed or concerned about her. Did it really matter how she felt?

Stella’s appetite vanished at the thought. She set down her fork after taking a couple of nibbles of mashed potato. "Dad, I'm full from eating at the Conrad family already. I'll head upstairs to retrieve my intended object."

Stella excused herself and went upstairs after that. Estella couldn't help but put her palm over her lips as she watched her head upstairs.
