After work closed, Jasmin returned home to shower and get ready for the party. Cainan has completely forbidden it last night when she informed him about it, but since he was her boyfriend and not her father or God, she did otherwise. She would not give him the satisfaction of smirking while having his way with her.
She was sad about his refusal to let her do the job; she was going to turn it down even though that meant breaking her words, but after he smugly stated how he wanted a woman, he could have fun with even if that meant pushing her to her knees, she wanted nothing more than to give him the middle finger and that was exactly what she was going to do.
The party kicked off at eight p.m., just like most normally do, and Jasmin joined the rest servers to serve and attend to the tables of the guest. This was a religious event from her observation of its activities, act and guest. She didn’t really care which event it was; she was getting pai

At the sight of him, her mind ran with different thoughts, already knowing that the night would not end well. People should at least get to finish the course of their disobedience before being punished, because getting caught sucks. She thought. He was in a white long sleeve tucked into the black trousers with three of its buttons undone from what she could see from the distance and even though he was angry; he looked good. He also looked like trouble and she became terrified of him and what he was thinking about doing and the last thing she wanted was a commotion at this event. Anita and George would never forgive her, and she wouldn't forgive herself, either. She didn't know which was the right thing to do, go up to him and ask him what he was doing at the event or ignore him and pretend as though she didn't see him and hopefully he would go away. She real
Jasmin sat on the bench in the park close to the restaurant where she works, having lunch and though she noticed a few people stare too long at her, probably realising who she was, yet none dared to bring out their phone and take pictures of her. It made her feel happy and safe, but also anxious. Cainan's ability to infuse fear in people’s hearts, which compelled them to behave even in his absence, was still something she couldn’t comprehend. He was that powerful, and yet she had overstepped her boundaries a few days ago with him. Though he was furious at her; he didn’t instil any fear-God in her. He said he was going to punish her for what she did, but five days later and still nothing. She didn’t rejoice or think he reconsidered; he was unpredictable, and that was what terrified her about him. He could smile one minute and then holding a murderous look the next and she wasn’t innocent in this. She triggered a lot of his outburst,
Crazy to think she would come in here looking for Cainan and she will easily find him. He was a busy businessman and had many people under him. “Listen,” she glanced down and saw a name tag of Sadiq Othman on his desk, “Sadiq, if your boss finds out you kept me waiting, he would definitely fire you, so I advise you to get off your seat and come show me to his office.” Her voice didn’t possess the authority it needed to make a conviction because the man just stared at her like she just did the Gangnam style move before him. “Okay, you need to leave now or I’ll call security,” he said, getting up to his feet and beckoning to two security guards at the door and they walked up towards her. “Ma’am, we are going to need you to leave, please.” The guard named Amobi Doe spoke softly, pointing to the door. She couldn’t believe they didn’t recognise her either. “Well, I am not leaving here till I speak to your boss!” She shook her
As soon as the door closed, Cainan spoke, his tone rigid and unfriendly. “What are you doing here?” He finally asked, walking over to his desk adding, “I don’t remember calling you over so you shouldn’t even be here.” Jasmin stared at him, remembering exactly why she was here and what it was he had done to her, and her cheeks heat. “You didn’t have to call me over, your actions called over.” His brow rose. “What actions?” She hissed and rolled her eyes. She couldn’t bite around the bush, she didn’t have the time to. So she cut straight to the reason she was here. “Please spare me the long games, Mr Inferno. You told me days ago that you were going to get back at me for going against your words and doing exactly what I had in mind. And you said when rules get broken, there are punishments and this is it. You’re punishing me for not doing what you told me five days ago.” “What are you talking about, lady?” “I’m talking abo
“Mr Inferno said he will come over tonight and so, wear this by then.” Felix, Cainan’s driver, said as he handed over the shopping bag to Jasmin, who silently collected it from his hand, looking as confused as ever. Jasmin glanced through it and saw a silk red gown and three-inch silver heel, “Where am I going to?” she asked with her brow rising as she stared at the tall, dark man in his mid-forties standing at her door. “He said to not tell you if I still hope to keep my job, I am sorry, ma’am,” he replied. “This time I let you off, but if you come next time with a package from Cainan with that speech, I’ll not accept it.” “That’s understood, Ms Whyte.” Felix nodded and took his leave. Jasmin closed the door and took the package into the bedroom to further reveal it and as she did, she saw the long red elegant gown and it took a lot of effort for Jasmin to not let her mouth drop in beholding it.
The third floor was the dining hall, the crowd of guest filled it up, perhaps even more than she had expected, and again she became unsure of herself. A majority of those present had dates as well, but Jasmin noticed their eyes on her and Cainan as soon as they stepped in. The men all wore black suits and red ties, matching Cainan’s and the ladies were all dressed in red with different designs and styles, and Jasmin felt astonished at some of the sophisticated styles she saw and silently thanked God that Cainan took the time to pick this elegant gown out for her. “Mr Inferno,” a grey-haired man called as he walked towards them. There was a woman about his age with her hands around his elbow. “Mr Doe,” Cainan replied in an acquainted tone and the men shook hands before turning to the woman. “I’m glad you could make it, Mrs Doe. It’s always a pleasure to have you.” he gently took her hand and shook it. “Thank you, Mr Inf
She never loved the spotlight, she always did what she could to avoid it, but life had a twisted way of giving her the middle finger. A few partners of the company came up to meet them congratulating and appreciating Cainan’s leadership of the company for the last eight years, and after shaking hands and after holding a smile on her face for forty minutes straight, she grew weary. “Bored already?” she heard Cainan’s voice, and she snapped out of her zoning. Her mouth twitched to the side. “Yeah, never been so bored around so many rich people before.” she murmured and she meant it. The only time she ever felt excited to be around so many rich people was when she was hoping to steal a thing or two from them, but not doing that and only listening to their business talk was as boring as watching herself twerk in the mirror. “What are the things that excite you then?” he asked with an interest fi
The turn of events today was not what she expected, and she needed to breathe. She needed to be in her own space, and the bathroom felt like the only place she could do that. She entered and close the door before leaning against it. Her eyes flutter and she remained silent, mentally trying to clear her head of all the what-ifs playing around in it regarding Lisa and Xavier. “Did you see her?” a feminine voice asked with a disgusted tone of voice, causing jasmine’s eyes to snap open. “For a moment I thought that wasn’t Mr inferno talking.” “I know right, they can’t possibly be dating. She looks more like a leash if you ask me.” the second voice which had a higher pitch than the first added in agreement. Jasmin didn’t have to be told to know the worthless women at the other stall were gossiping about her and her relationship with Cainan, and just like that, her ‘alone time’ just flew out of the window. &n
A few days later, Jasmin was holding onto a bunch of lily flowers and she wore a long silver gown that littered with every move she made. Lisa told her it was going to give her the best look two days ago, and she believed. Cainan was in a black tux and red bow tie and sat in his wheelchair, awaiting her arrival at the altar. He was taking Rogue’s advice and also grooming a beard and a few stubbles were on his face. Jasmin told Cainan she wanted to be married to him a few days ago at the hospital and despite being confined in bed, Cainan moved to plan for the wedding, which would be a small one with only family and friends. After they released him from the hospital, the doctor gave strict instructions that he made use of the wheelchair to help heal and restore him to his full strength before walking and so he had done in these past days while planning the wedding. Coming out to Ada abou
The stillness within and without was the first thing Cainan took notice of as he regained consciousness and soon after, his lashes lifted and he beheld a blurry shadow pacing around not so far away. What a very weird dream he had had, being chased around with Jasmin and then shot and stabbed. He made out the white painted walls, ceiling and blue curtains hanging on the window through his dimmed vision and his head did a mental recall of the event that might have led to this, but came up short. The clearer his vision became, the harder his head ached, and he shut his eyes as the pain in his head grew worse. “Shit!” he cussed and groaned loudly. How the hell did he end up here? “Cainan,” he heard Ada’s voice snapping him out of his thoughts, and a moment later she took his hand in hers. “Oh, thank goodness you’re finally awake.” She breathed in relief and took her seat
A store with dimmed lights was at the corner off the road and, as soon as Jasmin saw it, she raced there, hoping they would still be open. She barely took her first step when someone suddenly grabbed her hand. Her heartbeat raced, and she panicked, trying to wiggle away. “Jazz, Jazz, it’s me.”Her heartbeat decreased and relief watched over her at the voice of Cainan and she threw her arms around him before she thought of anything else. She pulled away, overwhelmed with happiness and surprise at the sight of him. “How did you find out?” her eyes narrowed.Relief and happiness filled his eyes at her sight. “I knew you loved me and the last thing you would do is hurt me intentionally. I knew there was more to it and though heartbroken, I had to wait around and make sure you were okay. Thank God I did.”“He knows about the baby,” she said, overcome with fear, &l
Dennis dragged Jasmin out of the house and into her car before forcing her to drive them away from the house. They drove past a few security points and each time, Jasmin played it cool and smiled her way through each line of questioning they had for her. She obeyed Dennis and did nothing that would spook suspicion for the safety of her unborn child even though she couldn’t imagine going back to the nightmare of a life she once had, filled with fear, abuse, and pain. “Where are the rest of the team?” she asked, a little curious as they left the last checkpoint. Dennis did nothing without his team, which comprised three other wealth exchangers, and Jasmin sensed something was up with their absence. “Dead.” He flatly replied, his eyes on the road. “I lost them a few days ago, during a heist.” Her eyes dropped. “I’m sorry.” She mumbled quietly, but she was not surprised. The life they lived was a dangerous one, which was why she wanted to leav
"Stop!" she exclaimed in panic, holding her trembling hands up in surrender and her heart slammed away in her chest in fear. "I will do what you want, just don't hurt her." Her eyes blurred up and her lips quivered. She knew better than to call bluff on his threats. He halted and uncocked the gun before turning to meet her glassy, and now desperate, eyes. And what he saw pleased him. "That's my girl, so obedient." he cooed. "Your good heart never leads you astray. Now bring out your phone and call your lover boy. You need to make sure that your words are believable because Lisa isn't out of the woods yet." Afraid, angry and defeated, she pulled out her phone from her purse on the couch and dialled Cainan's number. After the third dial, with no answer from Cainan, she lowered the phone from her ear, mumbling. "He's not answering, usually he answers..." The words were barely out of her mouth when the doorbell went
Her heart hammered against her chest in fear and terror as she stood, unable to move in the first few minutes that passed. He was her past; he was also her nightmare and now he was her reality.Lisa lived in a very secure neighbourhood and breaking in rarely happened. Somehow, Dennis, an intruder, had found his way in and now sat on Lisa's adjustable chair at the corner of the living room in black hood and trousers, and an evil smirk at the side of his lips like he owned the place.A million questions ran through Jasmin's head as she speechlessly stared at him. What did he want? How did he find her?Where's Lisa? What did he do to her?Despite the question running through her head, all she could utter became his name."Dennis."He puffed the rest of the smoke into the air. "Oh, good, you still remember my name." he casually stated as if it hadn't been over nine months since they last saw each oth
Jasmin stayed in the restroom for a few minutes and so much had already happened in her absence. She didn’t mind that he worked with Vanessa. Being a big girl meant not crying, not throwing tantrums, and lastly, not jumping to conclusions. What she didn’t understand was why they had to be so fond of each other. Cainan reached for her hands and affectionately took them into his. He said something that made Vanessa’s eyes widen and disbelief spread across her face. She threw her arms around Cainan and hugged him tightly before pulling away, the wide smile still on her face. Jasmin’s eyes blurred up, and she grew sick in her stomach. She wanted to leave. She needed to leave now. She blinked back the tears from her eyes and with all the composure she possessed; she made her way over towards him, dragging her leg with her, and soon she was beside the two happy couple. ‘Easy, Jasmin, remember things are not always what they seem, take the advice you
Jasmin and Cainan were invited on a double date with Alex and Rogue’s at the Pearl lounge and though reluctant at first about going, Cainan back her against the wall literally and she had no other choice but to scream yes. She had stopped going to the restaurant because, according to Cainan’s calculations, this was her delivery week and she needed not to stress herself. He always made an interesting argument with his mouth. She needed this, though; she had stayed home in the last two days and despite almost always being connected with Anita and Andrew to keep up with progress; yet she was running crazy. Meeting Alex and Rogue was a breath of fresh air. They were a pair, madly I love with each other and barely able to keep their eyes off each other. Their son Rayge was sixteen months old, and he was being watched by Gloria, his nanny so that they could have time for themselves. Alex shared the beauty of being a mother, and also the pain. They encourage
Jasmin noticed Anita was taking a longer time than usual in getting the end of the month’s account files over to her office and tiring of waiting, she made her way to her office, which was the next office after hers. The door to her office was unlocked, and she pushed further and entered the office, but slowed down on her step when she heard whimpers coming from the corner of the bathroom. She tried waiting out the whimpers but after a minute and Anita not coming out; she headed over to the bathroom and carefully opened it.The sight she saw was heartbreaking. Anita was sitting on the covered toilet with her head buried in her palms and she was sobbing into it. It was a shocking sight to Jasmin because she had known Anita for so long but had never seen her broken, sad or even upset. The highest emotion she had seen her display was anger, which happened once in a while. Anita was always happy and positive, and she feared what might have changed
