With a broad grin, Alex grabbed his phone and dialed Michael’s number.

Across the city, Michael stood under the warm spray of his shower, preparing for yet another day spent lounging at home. He hummed a tune as he lathered up, but the moment was interrupted by the distant sound of his phone ringing from the bedroom.

“Shit,” he muttered, quickly rinsing off. He stepped out of the bathroom in a hurry, but by the time he reached his phone, the ringing had stopped.

Letting out a small sigh, he picked it up and saw Alex’s name on the screen. A smile tugged at his lips as he instantly called back.

Sitting on the edge of his bed, a towel wrapped around his waist, he used another to dry his damp hair. The call connected, and he greeted, “Hey!”

“Hey,” Alex responded, his eyes flickering toward his laptop.

“Sorry I missed your call. I was in the shower,” Michael explained, still running the towel through his hair.

“That’s cool. I had to call you this early as soon as I got the message,” Alex s

Isla sat in the living room, anxiously waiting for Jaxon’s return. The company had closed for the night, yet he was still nowhere to be seen.“He should be back by now,” she muttered, glancing at her phone once more.A sudden roar of engines outside made her frown.Standing up, she called, “Henry?” as she approached one of the windows.“Miss Isla?” Henry’s voice came from behind as he stepped into the living room.Pulling back the curtain, Isla peered outside, her eyes narrowing at the sight of four sleek black cars pulling up. “Who are they?” she asked.Henry moved closer to the window, taking a look before raising his brows.“Oh. They must be the bodyguards Mr. Jaxon mentioned. They’re here to start their duties.”“Start their duties?” Isla echoed, her brows knitting together.“Yes,” Henry confirmed. “They’re assigned to guard the mansion. Mr. Jaxon will be away more often now, so he wants to ensure maximum security—especially with you here.” He offered a small smile before stepping

Isla sat behind her desk, her eyes skimming through Jaxon’s schedule. She kept reviewing his meetings from the previous day, searching for anything that might explain last night’s unexpected business dealings. But there was nothing.‘It was the same the other day. Why is he attending meetings that aren’t on his schedule?’ she wondered, glancing toward his office.Inside, a man—dressed in an air of mystery—sat across from Jaxon, engaged in a hushed conversation. Isla recognized him. A known client of the company. A familiar face.‘This is the right time.’Pushing back from her desk, she rose to her feet and strode toward the elevator. She pressed the button, stepped inside, and just as the doors were about to shut, a foot wedged between them, halting their closure. It was Austin.A wide grin stretched across his face as he stepped in, his gaze locking onto hers. Isla returned the smile, polite but restrained."You again," he murmured, settling beside her as the doors slid shut."I know

Jaxon remained seated in the car after the company had closed for the day. Ray occupied the driver’s seat, and the two of them waited in silence for Alex to arrive.Clenching his jaw, Jaxon fixed his gaze on Ray for a moment before speaking. “Did you mention Teresa to Isla?” he asked suddenly. Ray furrowed his brows.“Excuse me?” Ray turned to face him, but before he could say more, the door opened, and Alex slid into the car.Jaxon exhaled sharply. “Isla confronted me about having a first love before she left for her mother’s. I never told her about that. So how did she find out?”Ray and Alex exchanged glances before shaking their heads.“We have no idea,” they said in unison.“Are you sure she didn’t figure it out on her own?” Alex asked.Jaxon sighed, running a hand down his face. “That doesn’t make sense. I stopped searching for Teresa and even locked her photo away before Isla and I got together. She wasn’t supposed to know—there was no reason for her to. I’d even forgotten all

Isla stood in her mother’s kitchen, preparing dinner. She had arrived that afternoon to find her mother lying in bed, barely responsive.Despite Isla’s concern, her mother refused to go to the hospital, insisting instead that a doctor could attend to her at home. Reluctantly, Isla agreed and called Doctor Charles, their longtime family physician. As she set the soup on the stove, she poured a glass of water and made her way back to the bedroom. Doctor Charles was already there, standing beside her mother’s bed.“Why didn’t you come to see me when I asked you to?” he asked.Pausing in the doorway, Isla overheard his words and frowned. “You asked her to see you?” she repeated, turning to her mother.Dr. Charles swallowed hard but remained silent. Isla’s gaze shifted between them, suspicion growing. “Mom, why didn’t you go? And since when did you start having appointments at the hospital?”Mrs. Bennett gave a small, dismissive smile. “It was just a routine checkup—nothing serious.”But I

Michael stepped into the room cautiously, his gaze fixated on the walls covered in pictures and posters. Everywhere he looked, he saw Jaxon’s face.‘Why does he have Jaxon’s face plastered all over the walls?’ he wondered, his brows knitting together. As he examined the images more closely, he realized they weren’t just ordinary pictures. There were candid shots of Jaxon—sleeping in his car, working in his office, swimming. Some were older, showing a younger version of him.‘This is creepy… Is he in love with him?’Near the window, a table displayed several small picture frames—some of Jaxon alone, others of the two of them together. Michael’s jaw remained slack as he took in the sheer volume of images scattered around the room. Then, something else caught his eye—gift bags. Some were Cartier, others were small, elegant packages meant for presents.Without thinking, he grabbed one and peeked inside. A glasses case sat neatly inside. He flipped it open—a Cartier pair. Michael stepped into the bar and made a beeline for the counter. His eyes were red and swollen from all the crying. He just needed a drink—something to help him forget what he had seen.Sliding onto a stool, he rested his hand on the counter and met the bartender’s gaze.“Bellini,” he said, his voice low.The bartender gave a nod and got to work. As he waited, Michael lowered his head, battling the fresh wave of tears threatening to spill.“There you go,” the bartender said, setting the drink down. But before Michael could lift his head, a deep voice spoke beside him.“I’ll have the same.”Michael glanced up, curiosity piqued. The voice belonged to an older man with a mix of black and grey in his hair and beard. His deep chocolate skin was smooth, and his features were striking—far more attractive than Michael expected for a man his age.“Hey,” the stranger greeted him with a broad smile, flashing perfect white teeth.Michael managed a faint smile in return. “Hey.”He reached for his

Isla stood on the hospital rooftop, gazing out at the breathtaking night view of Naples. The cool breeze whipped strands of her hair across her face, but she barely noticed. Her mind was too preoccupied, replaying the doctor's words over and over. Her mother needed to be admitted. Someone had to stay with her. And with $8,000, they could begin chemotherapy immediately."Where am I supposed to get that kind of money?" she thought, exhaling heavily. She let out a dry chuckle. “If this were a movie, this would be the perfect moment for a cigarette,” she mumbled, lowering her head as she sighed. As she stood there, lost in thought, footsteps echoed behind her. Jeremy had made his way to the rooftop, spotting her instantly. A faint smile tugged at his lips as he approached.“Hey,” he greeted, stopping beside her, his gaze drifting over the illuminated city below.“Hey,” she replied, tucking loose strands of hair behind her ear.“How are you feeling?” he asked. She scoffed, shrugging. “What

You can just ask me anything, and I’ll tell you.”Michael tilted his head. “Alright then… what do you do?”Idris smirked. “I own a few businesses across Italy—most of them in Milan, Florence, and Turin. Alex stepped aside and reached for his phone to call Jaxon, but just as he was about to dial, he spotted Jaxon’s car pulling into Mrs. Bennett’s compound.Lowering his phone, he strode toward the vehicle, barely waiting for Jaxon to cut the engine before speaking."I was just about to call you," Alex said as Jaxon unfastened his seatbelt and swung the door open.Alex continued, "No sign of her at the hospital yet. We just got here, so we’re not sure if she’s here either. We knocked, but no one has—""Someone just answered," Jaxon cut in, his eyes fixed on the house. He barely acknowledged Alex as he advanced toward the entrance. His men stood still, awaiting orders, while Alex trailed behind him.The door swung open, revealing Ivy. The moment she stepped outside, her gaze locked onto Jaxon, her expression hardening. ‘Of course, it’s him,’ she thought in disgust, shutting the door behind her."Don’t you think this is a bit dramatic?" "Jeremy wants a divorce." Ivy's voice was steady, but the weight of her words filled the room. She sank into the chair beside her mother’s bed, exhaustion lining her face. They had just returned from the hospital—Mrs. Bennett needed to rest before her next chemo cycle."What?!" Mrs. Bennett’s voice came out weak, yet the shock was evident in her expression.Ivy simply shrugged. "It’s Isla. Again," she muttered, and the confusion on her mother’s face deepened."What do you mean? What does Isla have to do with this?"Ivy scoffed. "If they hadn’t seen each other the day before, divorce wouldn’t even be on Jeremy’s mind. He claims they’re still in love, and apparently, she feels the same."Mrs. Bennett shook her head in disbelief. "That’s impossible. It doesn’t add up. Isla has a boyfriend—things are serious between them. I don’t believe she would say something like that to Jeremy. He must have misunderstood."A bitter laugh escaped Ivy’s lips. "Of course. His stomach tightened as he rushed to his desk—only to find his journal missing. The rest of his belongings had been disturbed.“Fuck! Without hesitation, he headed straight for her bedroom. The door was slightly ajar, and a cold dread settled in his chest. His worst fears

Isla strode straight to the desk, her gaze sweeping the room in search of any clue—anything to prove she wasn’t just being paranoid.Reaching the desk, her eyes flicked over its surface. A few files lay scattered on top. She skimmed through them, but they were nothing more than work-related documents and contracts.Crouching slightly, she turned her attention to the drawers attached to the desk. Just as she was about to place her phone down and pull one open, her screen lit up with an incoming call. She frowned, glancing at the name. It was Austin. Her jaw tightened. ‘Bad timing.’ Without a second thought, she silenced the call and set the phone on the desk.Returning to the drawers, she tugged at one—locked. She tried another. Also locked.‘Locked drawers inside a locked room? That’s beyond suspicious.’ She tested each one, but none had been carelessly left open. ‘Great. Now I have to find the keys. And they better not be hidden too well.’Shifting her focus, she moved to the bookshe

Jeremy sped off in his car, heading to work. His eyes flickered to his phone screen once more, hoping for a message from Isla, but nothing.‘Did she know he was in the mafia before?’ The thought gnawed at him. He shook his head, refocusing on the road. He remembered clearly how much Isla despised the mafia when they were together. She never held back her disgust, always speaking about them with pure contempt. He had often wondered why, but she never gave him an answer. Sure, everyone knew the mafia was powerful, ruthless, and knee-deep in illegal business, but Isla’s hatred ran deeper. It was personal. And he knew that.‘There’s no way she knew and still got with him. He must’ve hidden it from her. But... why hasn’t she responded after reading the message?’ His jaw clenched as he tilted his head in thought. As he approached the turn under a bridge, he made the sharp curve, and caught sight of a car sticking unnervingly close behind him. His brows furrowed. Checking the rearview mirror

Isla woke up with a deep yawn, stretching her arm toward the empty space beside her. She expected to feel Jaxon lying next to her, but he was nowhere to be found. Her brows furrowed as she blinked her eyes open, glancing at his side of the bed. Letting out a quiet sigh, she sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes with the back of her hand."Jaxon?" she mumbled drowsily, stifling another yawn.Sliding out from beneath the sheets, she swung her legs over the edge of the bed and reached for her phone. Unlocking it, she found everything exactly as she had left it the night before.Slipping on her flip-flops, she padded toward the door and stepped into the hallway."Jaxon?" she called again, her voice echoing slightly as she made her way toward the stairs. The night before, after her conversation with Austin, she had made up her mind—she was going to tell Jaxon about it. Something about Austin wanting to meet up before explaining himself felt off to her. It almost seemed like he had nothin

"Do you really want to do introductions, or do you just want to fuck me?"Alex’s brows shot up in surprise. He hadn’t expected someone who looked so nerdy and reserved to be this blunt. And yet, he loved it."Well, I don’t like introductions either," Alex admitted, downing the rest of his whiskey, never breaking eye contact.Gingerhead bit his lower lip, then wordlessly slid away from the counter, his fingertips grazing up Alex’s arm as he moved.A smirk tugged at Alex’s lips. He stood and followed, watching as Gingerhead led him toward the hallway at the far end of the club. He deliberately maintained a bit of distance between them, stretching the tension with every step.Gingerhead kept glancing back, his expression teasing, seductive, his pace slowing just enough

But another weight still pressed on his mind. Michael.Weaving through the bodies moving on the dance floor, he made his way to the bar. The counter was crowded, but luck was on his side—an empty seat awaited him.He sank onto it with a heavy sigh, sweeping his gaze across the room. ‘Why’s this place so packed today?’ The thought crossed his mind before realization hit. ‘it’s Friday night, of course it is packed.’Turning to the bartender, he forced a strained smile. “Whiskey,” he ordered. She returned his smile with ease and nodded, reaching for a glass. As she worked, Alex dug into his bag for his phone, tapping open his DMs with Michael. Nothing had changed.
