Blue’s POV

“Have a nice day." I said, shaking hands with all of the directors present until I got to the last.

“You too." They replied.

As the next chairwomen of Nexus Corporation, my father has suggested I meet with the directors before the formal introduction which was going to be held by the weekend.

“We are going to help you in every little way we can." Mr. Langston said and with a smile on my lips, I nodded in appreciation.

One after the other, they took their leave until I was the only one left in my office.

Reclining against my table, I used my fingers to trace the corners of my name plaque, my smile growing even wider.

Nine months ago, I was the wife of Caruso Milton.

Fast forward to nine months later, I was the heiress of Nexus Corporation, one out of the three largest cologmerate in the country.

Pushing my hair behind my ear, I plopped on my chair, a low sigh escaping from my lips as I turned on the TV.

The headlines caught my attention, so I decided to keep watching until it came to full display once more.

And then it did.

After several years of working as a reporter and TV desk presenter at Fusion Network (FNN), her father’s broadcasting company, Becca had been promoted to the position of the vice chairman.

“Congratulations." I murmur, hitting my palm together.

Her promotion came just in time as my intention was to humiliate publicly, just as she did to me months back.

Shutting my eyes I winced as I recalled the scene from that night, her incessant questioning and then her accusation of having an affair with Archer.

Grasping the edge of the table, I reached out for the pen holder sitting peacefully in place.

Just when I was about to toss it at the door to relieve myself from the anger running through my veins, a knock resounded in my office.

And the next minute, my father walked in with Feebee, my aunt directly behind him.

“How was the meeting with the directors?” He asked while I went to brew two cups of coffee.

"It went well.” I handed the cup of coffee to them before sitting on the couch opposite them, legs crossed.

“I was scared for nothing."

“I told you, didn't I?" Feebee chuckled. “With this done, you should be getting ready for the party by the weekend."

“Yeah." I nodded, fiddling with my fingers.

Just this morning, Feebee had sent a list of all invited guests and Caruso was among them.

I was dreading to see him.

Though I was gnawing to deal with his family and Becca for humiliating me publicly, I didn't want to see him anywhere around me.

Despite all that had happened, my heart still skips a beat whenever he appears on TV or when I read news concerning his company.

My feelings are still alive and burning and I was scared it was going to make me rethink my decision.

After the fire accident which was supposed to claim my life, I woke up in the hospital as the long lost heiress of the Lancaster's Group.

Yet to wrap my head about this new discovery, Feebee introduced herself as my aunt, making it easy for me to piece together the role she played during my trial.

And finally, the one that shook me to the bones was when I was handed a mirror.

I was entirely different from how I used to be.

Terrified, I went berserk but Feebee calmed me down, explaining that the fire had burnt my face beyond recognition before I was rescued and plastic surgery was the only option.

Though I wasn't pleased with having someone else's face, I later began to appreciate it simply because it was going to make my revenge plan go smoothly.

“Father," I called, propping myself on my seat.

“I don't think I'm ready to take up my role as the heiress of the Smith’s group.” I mouthed but before he could speak, I added, "I just started learning about the company a month ago so I don't think I'm…”

"Running from responsibilities again, huh.”

"No aunt, the thing is, I’m not prepared to take up the big role.” Alternating my gaze between them, I took a deep breath before saying, "A year should be enough for me.”

"I'm retiring in two months.” Father said without batting an eyelid and instantly, my heart fell into my stomach with a plop.

The role of a vice chairman was going to interfere in my plans, that's what I wanted to prevent but it seemed I wouldn't be having my way.

“Caruso Milton and I have some unfinished business, you will continue from where I ended with him."

What? — I yelled in my head exchanging quick glances with Feebee who asked me to calm down.

“Sure, I will do a good job."

A few minutes later, father took his leave with Feebee and immediately, I began to pace about, worry clouding my face as my heart clenched tightly against my chest.

To find out the truth, I have to be actively involved.

I was almost losing my mind when Feebee returned, closing the door gently behind her.

Making her way towards the window, I trailed after her, “What should I do now?" I ratted out.

“Working with Caruso? No way, I can't allow that to happen."

"You have to.” She said, casting me a glance before shifting her gaze back to the window.

Speechless, I couldn't utter a word.

“You have to keep him around so you find the truth otherwise, you’re going to struggle to keep up."

“Becca is close to him, through him you can gain access to her."

“But…"

“You still have feelings for him." She cut in while I gulped, rubbing my sweaty palms against my dress.

“Don't get worked up about it."

“Like I promise, I’m going to help you find the truth. We just have to stay in course for that to happen. Don't let your emotions get in the way."

Nodding, I let out a low sigh.

"Our first target, we should go for her.”

Caruso's POV This was a huge mess. How did Blue get mixed up in something like this?
