"Great work today,” Steve said to Ava, slipping into the empty stool beside her and signaling for the waiter to come over.

She was sitting in a bar close to her hotel and slowly sipping a drink while thinking about the events of that day.

“Oh, hey! What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be resting after today’s hectic activities?” Ava asked him, noting how strong and handsome he looked and how good he smelled.

A couple of women who were sitting close to where Ava was seated muttered excitedly to themselves, covering their mouths and giggling as they cast not-so-covert glances at Steve. He nodded and smiled politely at them before sitting beside Ava.

“I was indeed about to go rest, but then I realized that I needed a drink, so I came down here, and lo behold, who should I run into but the very woman whom I haven't been able to get off my mind these past few days? God indeed works in mysterious ways.” Steve replied to her question, smiling mischievously at her, his pearly white

To Derek’s relief, Barry was admitted and stabilized within minutes of his arrival at the hospital. They were regular visitors at the hospital after all, so it was not always a hassle to get Barry admitted anytime he had a crisis. It was only after Barry was settled that Derek looked down at himself and realized that he was dressed in his pajamas. In his haste, he had neglected to change into more presentable clothes.Luckily enough, it was night, or rather early morning, depending on how one looked at it, which meant that he could quickly rush home and change into more presentable clothing before day.“I’m so sorry about what happened, boss. I came as soon as I could.” Jerome his bodyguard told him, coming up to meet him in the corridor of the hospital.Jerome was a huge and beefy man with a very stern expression, but he had a soft spot for Barry and always found time to play with him whenever he was less busy.“Ah, Jerome. You’re here. Thank goodness. How did you know I was gone?”“

The first thing he noticed was the small but scary-looking gun the other guy brought out seemingly from nowhere and casually pointed at him.The second thing he noticed was that this was no ordinary robber but a hardened criminal. The look in the man’s eyeswas cold and mean enough to freeze even the hottest parts of hell.“Get in.” The man told Derek, angling his head to indicate that Derek was to get into the open passenger side of the car.“What do you want from me?” Derek asked, stalling and trying to see if he could find a way to wrestle the gun out of the man’s hand.He wasn’t by any means a trained fighter or anything, and this man who was waiting impatiently for him to get into the car looked like one who fought and shot people for a living. However, Derek wasn’t about to just hand himself over on a platter of gold, so he tried again.“Is it money you want? I have tons of it and would be more than glad to part with some of it if we both just agreed to forget this unfortunate l

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   Information

The film crew was having a quick break when Ava noticed that Denise was having what appeared to be a heated conversation with Derek’s bodyguard. Ava remembered the man from when she was married to Derek, and they had even been friends back then.Derek was nowhere in sight, which was just as well, because she wasn’t interested in seeing him, especially since for the past few days, she had been having conflicted feelings about her decision to continue to keep him out of her child’s life.“You have no fucking right to talk to me in that tone. It is not my fault that your boss is a deadbeat father who would leave his son bedridden in a hospital, knowing fully well that I’m working. Anyway, the boy has a nanny, not so? Well, get the nanny to stay with him. You don’t very well expect me to leave the set in the middle of filming.” Denise yelled at the man, whose expression remained impassive.“There always has to be some drama where this lady is concerned.” Steve, who was seated close to Ava

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   Awakening

Derek had never felt so awful in his entire life. It felt as though his entire head was made of lead and that his mouth was filled with ashes. His head throbbed so bad that for several minutes after he came to, he simply remained in the same position in which he woke up, waiting for the pounding ache in his head to die down. It didn’t die down by any means, but he got used to it enough to crack open one eye and try to get bearing of his surroundings. He did not for the life of him, recognize where he was, why he was there, or who had brought him there. After what felt like an eternity, he was able to struggle into a sitting position, even though his head and body protested the movement every inch of the way. He soon realized why. There was a dirty makeshift bandage and sling covering the upper part of his chest and his right arm. No wonder moving into a sitting position had hurt so bad. He looked around him again, trying to get his bearing, but there was nothing to see. He was in

It took several days... Much longer than it was supposed to take, for people to realize that Derek had most likely been kidnapped. In the message that his bodyguard got that same morning of his disappearance, it had been stated that Derek was going to be unreachable for several days because he did not want to be disturbed. However, everyone who knew him also knew that there was no way he would leave his son so abruptly without giving instructions on what was to be done for the boy, or at least sorting his medical bills. “I can't believe this! How irresponsible can the man be? Who the fuck leaves a sick child in the hospital and disappears in the middle of the night when he knows that the boy’s mother is working and would not be able to come to be with him?” Denise fumed. She was pacing the entire length and breadth of the hospital room in which Barry was admitted and was constituting such a huge nuisance that Barry’s nurse had to ask her to step outside. The child looked very r

Denise stared at Amanda, mouth agape, unable to believe the words that the latter had just uttered.Granted, she had always been aware of some sibling rivalry between Derek and his sister, but that sibling rivalry was all Amanda’s fault. She had always seemed to low-key resent Derek and believed that she was the one who was supposed to have everything that Derek had, but Denise didn’t know that her feelings of resentment ran this deep.“You’re joking, right? You can't be serious about what you just said. He is your brother for crying out loud.” Denise said.“What kind of brother cuts off his own sister and makes her work menial jobs when he has the means to get her settled forever? My father would roll in his grave if he saw all the things that Derek is doing to me.” Amanda replied in indignation, her double chin quivering in anger. With each day that passed, Amanda seemed to be putting on a lot of weight, and very rapidly too. In fact, Denise was beginning to be embarrassed to be see

"I can't believe that this is happening. I swear, I don’t know what you're talking about. Perhaps someone is trying to frame me or something. I had nothing to do with Derek’s disappearance. I swear it. Derek and I didn’t always see eye to eye, but I’ll never hurt him. Amanda, you have to believe me!” Denise said, her voice sounding frantic as tears gathered in her eyes.“Unfortunately, I can't, Denise. All fingers point to you. It's only a matter of time before everyone realizes it and they will the minute the news of your child's true paternity breaks out."“Oh, my God! I can't believe this is happening to me. Are you going to tell people about Barry?"“Calm down. I'm not a gossip. You told me about him because you trusted me, so I'm not going to expose you. Barry's real father might not have any such reservations though, but that's beside the point. I have a solution to the issue on ground. Wanna hear it?” Amanda asked, her eyes glinting mischievously.“Okay.”“As you well know, Der

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   Back in time

SIX YEARS AGO“You’re what?!” Derek exclaimed out loud, shock reverberating through his whole being as he stared at Denise, who was staring back at him very calmly, as though she had not just dumped the biggest … and most terrible news of his life on him.“Pregnant. You know … the thing when a woman has sex with a man and then a few weeks later, her body feels funny and different, so she takes a pregnancy test which comes out positive. I’m pregnant, Derek.”“I got that part. The other part is what I don’t understand.”“The part about me keeping the baby? What's there not to understand? You know how much I've always wanted children. I’ve never gotten pregnant before, not that I've tried to do so anyway. I'm not aborting my first pregnancy.”“I’m married…”“I know that, dear. I don’t know why you had to rush to get married, but if you had had the patience to wait instead of getting hitched to the first desperate female you found, then maybe you would have received this news differently

“It was by sheer luck, if not, they never would have found you on time, and what would have happened then does not bear thinking about. Apparently, they managed to arrest the guy that Amanda initially hired to do all this sometime yesterday.Once the asshole realized that there was no chance in hell that he would get out of this and that he was well and truly done for, he began to sing like a canary. He led the police right to the house, and the rest, as they say, is history. I'm so thankful we got there on time.” Damien said.“Yeah, me too. It’s still hard to believe that Amanda could be filled with so much hate in her heart and that she was willing to go to such lengths to harm Derek, me, and even our child who has done nothing to her.”“I was surprised as well. I always knew that she was a mean person, but I never imagined that she was downright evil. I'm glad you followed through on your instinct.”“Me too. Mother and daughter hugged each other for what felt like decades, and when they finally pulled apart, Ava's arm was hurting where she had been shot."I'm so sorry, baby. Ava said, ruffling Harper's hair, and wincing when she saw where the area on her head that had been shaved because of an injury there."The bad woman hit me with a gun. She shot Uncle Steve with the gun. Uncle Steve wanted to run away with me and Gracie, Mom." Harper explained, noting that Ava's eyes were on the wound.Ava gulped and averted her gaze immediately, unable to imagine the horror that Harper and Gracie had been through. Little children like them should never have to see someone murdered in cold blood.Seeing such a thing messed with even grownups like her, not to talk of children. The girls were going to need loads of therapy. Once again, Ava damned Amanda and Denise to hell and back in her mind. Suddenly, she realized the implications o

Ava had grabbed Denise because she wanted to use her as a human shield, and her plan worked pretty well, as it was all that saved her from what would have been certain death. The bullets that Amanda had just fired hit Denise point blank and in rapid succession. She died quickly, although the other two women didn’t know it yet.Ava felt Denise’s body jerk with the force of the shots at the same time that she saw Amanda crumple to the ground as though in slow motion. That was confusing, and Ava stared at her in surprise, unable to fathom what had just happened. She glanced down at Denise, whom she still held, and who was clearly very dead, and let go of her body immediately, feeling extremely sickened. She needed to focus on not getting killed, which was what Amanda was bent on doing to her.Amanda was trying to get back up, but before she could manage to do that, someone tackled her, and hit the gun out of her hand,Within moments, policemen swarmed the room, and Ava collapsed in relie

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   Crazy

Denise and Ava stared warily at each other after Amanda left the room, and a few seconds later, Ava decided to try to reason with the other woman, even though she wasn’t sure that Denise was going to listen to her. “Denise, please, let us go. I promise not to press charges against you. You must know from all indications that there’s no way the both of you are going to get out of this unscathed. It doesn’t matter what Amanda says now. I can see in your eyes that you know it.” Ava tried to get to Denise. It was all she could do not to rush straight at Denise and grab Harper, who was whimpering in fear and trying not to move so that the knife would not nick her, away from the woman. She could see the fear and indecision in Denise’s face. Apparently, she was wise to realize what Amanda clearly failed to realize, which was that Ava was right and there was no way she and Amanda going to get out of this without being apprehended by the police. “Shut up!” Denise muttered. “Think abou

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   A tense atmosphere

Ava didn’t wait to see what would happen next. She rushed straight at Amanda, faintly aware that her arm was hurting weirdly, but her adrenaline was too great for her to think anything of the pain right then. She had taken self-defense classes several times in the past, and although it had been a long time since she took them, those classes came in handy at that moment. Her life, as well as those of Harper and the other little girl, Gracie, depended on her. She couldn't let them down. She began to try to wrestle the gun away from Amanda, who struggled fiercely with her. As they struggled with the gun, it kept discharging, but by some miracle, neither of them was hit. Finally, the gun was out of bullets, and Amanda let go of it while yelling for Denise to come at the same time. Ava wasn’t done with her, though. She thought of poor Harper and her friend who were somewhere in that house, scared to death and definitely not in the best shape. She thought about Derek, who had been throug

Adrenaline pumped through Ava’s entire body, and utter rage filled her entire being. She was right! She had been right all along. These evil women were the ones who had abducted her daughter and another innocent child. She would have called for help, but there was no service on her phone, and she could only hope that Damien and the police would be somehow able to find her and soon too, before something bad happened to her or the girls. Had it been she had thought things through earlier, she would have gotten a car tracker before coming on this solo adventure. Unfortunately, never in her wildest dreams had she imagined what the night would bring, and so she had failed to take this necessary precaution. One moment, she was standing outside the house in fear, and the next moment, she found herself beside the door. Without caring what was waiting on the other side of the door, she threw herself against it as hard as she could. She thought fleetingly of the poor soul that was growing in

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   A scream in the night

Ava didn’t go back home after driving away from Denise’s place. Instead, she parked her car the next block away from Denise’s house in a spot where her car would not easily be detected. Then she waited for what felt like an eternity for Denise to leave her house because she had every intention of following the woman to wherever it was that she was going. Her phone was blowing up with calls from Damien, who had left her several messages, asking her not to do anything drastic that could cause Denise to have the power to get her arrested or something. She ignored the messages and continued to wait. After a while, she saw a car, which she recognized as one of Amanda’s cars, come from the opposite direction and drive towards Denise’s house.Ava’s heart immediately began to beat really fast. Amanda was picking Denise up? Where the hell were both of them headed by that time of the night? Several minutes later, the car appeared again and drove off into the night.Ava let a few minutes pass, a

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   A surprise visit

Ava sat in her idling car outside Denise’s house, her nerves failing her now that she was here. What was she thinking, sneaking out of her house like a thief in the night and coming here to the house of her sworn enemy? She just couldn't continue to sit at home, wringing her hands and crying while waiting for something positive to happen. She wasn’t sure what to do now that she was here, but she had to do something.Taking a deep breath, she took her phone and texted Damien to tell him where she was, just in case somehow, her hunch was right. If it was, then it would be incredibly dangerous and foolhardy to just walk into Denise’s waiting arms without telling anyone where she was.Even though it was only a little past eight in the evening, the streets were deserted, and there was no one around.Ava was about to open her car door and get out of the car when the lights in Denise’s house went off. Apparently, she was preparing to go to sleep.Ava sat still for a few minutes, wondering wh

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   A bad feeling

It had been several days since Amanda and Denise paid their so-called courtesy call to Ava at her house … a move that Denise thought was incredibly stupid and dangerous. After all, the three women weren't friends and all of their acquaintances knew that, so it was surely going to look weird and suspicious that Denise and Amanda decided to visit Ava.Unfortunately, once Amanda put her mind to something, especially in recent times, it was practically impossible to change her mind, and so Denise had no choice but to go along with whatever she wanted, even if she thought it was foolhardy.“I’ve got a bad feeling, Amanda,” Denise said.“About what?” Amanda, who was in a terribly foul mood asked. It was now common knowledge that Derek had not only survived the gunshots but had also gone on to regain consciousness. Ever since this news broke out, Amanda had been unconsolable and had even taken out her frustration on Derek’s daughter, whom she still held captive.“I don’t know … I’ve got a ba
