Denise stared at Amanda, mouth agape, unable to believe the words that the latter had just uttered.

Granted, she had always been aware of some sibling rivalry between Derek and his sister, but that sibling rivalry was all Amanda’s fault.

She had always seemed to low-key resent Derek and believed that she was the one who was supposed to have everything that Derek had, but Denise didn’t know that her feelings of resentment ran this deep.

“You’re joking, right? You can't be serious about what you just said. He is your brother for crying out loud.” Denise said.

“What kind of brother cuts off his own sister and makes her work menial jobs when he has the means to get her settled forever? My father would roll in his grave if he saw all the things that Derek is doing to me.” Amanda replied in indignation, her double chin quivering in anger.

With each day that passed, Amanda seemed to be putting on a lot of weight, and very rapidly too. In fact, Denise was beginning to be embarrassed to be see

"I can't believe that this is happening. I swear, I don’t know what you're talking about. Perhaps someone is trying to frame me or something. I had nothing to do with Derek’s disappearance. I swear it. Derek and I didn’t always see eye to eye, but I’ll never hurt him. Amanda, you have to believe me!” Denise said, her voice sounding frantic as tears gathered in her eyes.“Unfortunately, I can't, Denise. All fingers point to you. It's only a matter of time before everyone realizes it and they will the minute the news of your child's true paternity breaks out."“Oh, my God! I can't believe this is happening to me. Are you going to tell people about Barry?"“Calm down. I'm not a gossip. You told me about him because you trusted me, so I'm not going to expose you. Barry's real father might not have any such reservations though, but that's beside the point. I have a solution to the issue on ground. Wanna hear it?” Amanda asked, her eyes glinting mischievously.“Okay.”“As you well know, Der

SIX YEARS AGO“You’re what?!” Derek exclaimed out loud, shock reverberating through his whole being as he stared at Denise, who was staring back at him very calmly, as though she had not just dumped the biggest … and most terrible news of his life on him.“Pregnant. You know … the thing when a woman has sex with a man and then a few weeks later, her body feels funny and different, so she takes a pregnancy test which comes out positive. I’m pregnant, Derek.”“I got that part. The other part is what I don’t understand.”“The part about me keeping the baby? What's there not to understand? You know how much I've always wanted children. I’ve never gotten pregnant before, not that I've tried to do so anyway. I'm not aborting my first pregnancy.”“I’m married…”“I know that, dear. I don’t know why you had to rush to get married, but if you had had the patience to wait instead of getting hitched to the first desperate female you found, then maybe you would have received this news differently

“You’re a very beautiful woman, Ava. Any man would be lucky to have you as his woman.” Steve complimented Ava as they sipped their wine and waited for their food.“Thank you, Steve. I really appreciate you saying that.” Ava replied. The compliment warmed her heart, especially since it was coming from someone like Steve, who himself was one of the hottest men in the country. Ava was beginning to like him more than she had thought she would, which was no surprise because if there was one thing that Steve possessed in abundance, it was charm and charisma. It was a different kind of charisma from the one that Derek possessed or used to possess. Whereas Steve was light-hearted, easy-going, and happy-go-lucky, Derek was the opposite in that he was dark, brooding, and oh-so-serious.“Earth to you, Ava. Your mind is elsewhere. Am I that boring?” Steve asked her, but he was joking.“Oh, no. I was just thinking to myself how different you are to Derek.” Ava replied.“Oh? I guess you could say

When the news of Derek’s disappearance finally broke out and people began to speculate that he did not disappear of his own free will, the news spread like wildfire. This was after nearly two weeks of his disappearance. Suddenly, news outlets, as well as several gossip blogs began to spread the news. “Billionaire Derek Turner missing … Foul play suspected.” “Derek Turner kidnapped and presumed dead. Live in girlfriend and mother of his child arrested in conjunction with his kidnap.” These and many more headlines, with different speculations as to what had happened to Derek, were being peddled on the news outlets. The police immediately swung into action, although it was difficult to know exactly what to search for, especially since so much time had passed. For one thing, Derek’s car had disappeared alongside him. For another, he had left messages with several of his acquaintances, including business associates that he was going to be gone for a while and was going to be unre

Denise couldn’t stop shaking, but she tried to answer the questions of the police … of which there were many, as best she could. No, she wasn’t the one who kidnapped Derek and she would never do something like that because she had nothing to benefit from it.No, she and Derek did not have any major fight that would have led to him abandoning her and Barry and going away for a while. If he indeed decided to go away for a while, it was because he wanted to or for other reasons best known to him, but not because she had done something to him. This particular answer wasn’t exactly true considering what she was suspecting that Derek knew, but the police did not need to know that. No, she wasn’t aware of where he could have gone, as he had never disappeared this way before and she had no idea of any hidden property in the woods where he could have gone to as they said he told someone.Yes, she would cooperate with the police and if any new details sprung up that would be useful to their sea

"Yo, I sent you a message just now but you didn’t respond.” The caller said into the phone without a preamble. It was a male voice. Denise wished she hadn't picked up the phone. She had not heard that voice in years, but she would recognize it anywhere, anyway. “Oh,” Denise said, thinking fast. She did not know how on earth to reply to him or what the hell she should say to him, but she had a very good idea of what he wanted. “Well, where are you, and how have you been?” “What do you care?” “Oooooh, I see that you know who I am. Is that any way to talk to your dearest baby daddy? I made you a mother, remember? How is my beloved boy doing anyway? I mean, it's a boy right?” He asked, his tone mocking. “I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about and I’m going to hang up on you now.” “Oh, come off it, Sweet pants. "Well, it’s very simple, sweet pants. You owe me big time and I've come to collect.” the man said, leering at her in a way that showed that he was up to no good, which wasn't a new thing, come to think of it.“I don’t understand what you mean when you say that I owe you big time. If you can remember very clearly, you tricked me into leaving the country with you by promising me a great acting job, only to lead me into something entirely different. Till today, no one, not even Derek, or his sister who is my close friend, knows what actually went down in those three years I was away.” Denise retorted angrily, amazed and appalled in equal measure at the nerve of him.She could not forget in a hurry how this asshole had ruined her life, her relationship, and even the career that she was only just trying to rebuild again. Andrew Tanner … He was one of the biggest film producers back then, which was about ten to twelve years ago. He had started young but had quickly grown to prominence and in his heyday, produced and directed a series of movies that had done pretty well.In recent times though, he had gone off the grid, and many people speculated different reasons that could be the cause for his sudden decision to take an extended break from the movie industry, but no one knew the exact reason. And now, here he was looking like a million bucks, and was clearly the answer to the prayer that Denise had been praying all her life … which was to meet someone big in the industry who would catapult her to her destined greatness.“It’s so nice to meet you, sir,” Denise told him, trying not to make it too obvious that she was so excited to meet him.“And you too. Judging from the look on your face, I take it that you’ve managed to recognize me. I don’t have time to waste because I’ve got an important meeting c

Apparently, they managed to arrest the guy that Amanda initially hired to do all this sometime yesterday.Once the asshole realized that there was no chance in hell that he would get out of this and that he was well and truly done for, he began to sing like a canary. He led the police right to the house, and the rest, as they say, is history. I'm so thankful we got there on time.” Damien said.“Yeah, me too. It’s still hard to believe that Amanda could be filled with so much hate in her heart and that she was willing to go to such lengths to harm Derek, me, and even our child who has done nothing to her.”“I was surprised as well. I always knew that she was a mean person, but I never imagined that she was downright evil. I'm glad you followed through on your instinct.”“Me too. Mother and daughter hugged each other for what felt like decades, and when they finally pulled apart, Ava's arm was hurting where she had been shot."I'm so sorry, baby. She shot Uncle Steve with the gun. Uncle Steve wanted to run away with me and Gracie, Mom." Harper explained, noting that Ava's eyes were on the wound.Ava gulped and averted her gaze immediately, unable to imagine the horror that Harper and Gracie had been through. Little children like them should never have to see someone murdered in cold blood.Seeing such a thing messed with even grownups like her, not to talk of children. The girls were going to need loads of therapy. Once again, Ava damned Amanda and Denise to hell and back in her mind. Suddenly, she realized the implications o

Ava had grabbed Denise because she wanted to use her as a human shield, and her plan worked pretty well, as it was all that saved her from what would have been certain death. The bullets that Amanda had just fired hit Denise point blank and in rapid succession. She died quickly, although the other two women didn’t know it yet.Ava felt Denise’s body jerk with the force of the shots at the same time that she saw Amanda crumple to the ground as though in slow motion. That was confusing, and Ava stared at her in surprise, unable to fathom what had just happened. She glanced down at Denise, whom she still held, and who was clearly very dead, and let go of her body immediately, feeling extremely sickened. She needed to focus on not getting killed, which was what Amanda was bent on doing to her.Amanda was trying to get back up, but before she could manage to do that, someone tackled her, and hit the gun out of her hand,Within moments, policemen swarmed the room, and Ava collapsed in relie

Denise and Ava stared warily at each other after Amanda left the room, and a few seconds later, Ava decided to try to reason with the other woman, even though she wasn’t sure that Denise was going to listen to her. “Denise, please, let us go. I promise not to press charges against you. You must know from all indications that there’s no way the both of you are going to get out of this unscathed. It doesn’t matter what Amanda says now. I can see in your eyes that you know it.” Ava tried to get to Denise. It was all she could do not to rush straight at Denise and grab Harper, who was whimpering in fear and trying not to move so that the knife would not nick her, away from the woman. She could see the fear and indecision in Denise’s face. Apparently, she was wise to realize what Amanda clearly failed to realize, which was that Ava was right and there was no way she and Amanda going to get out of this without being apprehended by the police. “Shut up!” Denise muttered. “Think abou

  • The CEO Ex-Wife's Revenge   A tense atmosphere

Ava didn’t wait to see what would happen next. She rushed straight at Amanda, faintly aware that her arm was hurting weirdly, but her adrenaline was too great for her to think anything of the pain right then. She had taken self-defense classes several times in the past, and although it had been a long time since she took them, those classes came in handy at that moment. Her life, as well as those of Harper and the other little girl, Gracie, depended on her. She couldn't let them down. She began to try to wrestle the gun away from Amanda, who struggled fiercely with her. As they struggled with the gun, it kept discharging, but by some miracle, neither of them was hit. Finally, the gun was out of bullets, and Amanda let go of it while yelling for Denise to come at the same time. Ava wasn’t done with her, though. She thought of poor Harper and her friend who were somewhere in that house, scared to death and definitely not in the best shape. She thought about Derek, who had been throug

Adrenaline pumped through Ava’s entire body, and utter rage filled her entire being. She was right! She had been right all along. These evil women were the ones who had abducted her daughter and another innocent child. She would have called for help, but there was no service on her phone, and she could only hope that Damien and the police would be somehow able to find her and soon too, before something bad happened to her or the girls. Had it been she had thought things through earlier, she would have gotten a car tracker before coming on this solo adventure. Unfortunately, never in her wildest dreams had she imagined what the night would bring, and so she had failed to take this necessary precaution. One moment, she was standing outside the house in fear, and the next moment, she found herself beside the door. Without caring what was waiting on the other side of the door, she threw herself against it as hard as she could. She thought fleetingly of the poor soul that was growing in

Ava didn’t go back home after driving away from Denise’s place. Instead, she parked her car the next block away from Denise’s house in a spot where her car would not easily be detected. Then she waited for what felt like an eternity for Denise to leave her house because she had every intention of following the woman to wherever it was that she was going. Her phone was blowing up with calls from Damien, who had left her several messages, asking her not to do anything drastic that could cause Denise to have the power to get her arrested or something. She ignored the messages and continued to wait. After a while, she saw a car, which she recognized as one of Amanda’s cars, come from the opposite direction and drive towards Denise’s house.Ava’s heart immediately began to beat really fast. Amanda was picking Denise up? Where the hell were both of them headed by that time of the night? Several minutes later, the car appeared again and drove off into the night.Ava let a few minutes pass, a

Ava sat in her idling car outside Denise’s house, her nerves failing her now that she was here. What was she thinking, sneaking out of her house like a thief in the night and coming here to the house of her sworn enemy? She just couldn't continue to sit at home, wringing her hands and crying while waiting for something positive to happen. She wasn’t sure what to do now that she was here, but she had to do something.Taking a deep breath, she took her phone and texted Damien to tell him where she was, just in case somehow, her hunch was right. If it was, then it would be incredibly dangerous and foolhardy to just walk into Denise’s waiting arms without telling anyone where she was.Even though it was only a little past eight in the evening, the streets were deserted, and there was no one around.Ava was about to open her car door and get out of the car when the lights in Denise’s house went off. Apparently, she was preparing to go to sleep.Ava sat still for a few minutes, wondering wh

It had been several days since Amanda and Denise paid their so-called courtesy call to Ava at her house … a move that Denise thought was incredibly stupid and dangerous. After all, the three women weren't friends and all of their acquaintances knew that, so it was surely going to look weird and suspicious that Denise and Amanda decided to visit Ava.Unfortunately, once Amanda put her mind to something, especially in recent times, it was practically impossible to change her mind, and so Denise had no choice but to go along with whatever she wanted, even if she thought it was foolhardy.“I’ve got a bad feeling, Amanda,” Denise said.“About what?” Amanda, who was in a terribly foul mood asked. It was now common knowledge that Derek had not only survived the gunshots but had also gone on to regain consciousness. Ever since this news broke out, Amanda had been unconsolable and had even taken out her frustration on Derek’s daughter, whom she still held captive.“I don’t know … I’ve got a ba
