"I'll see you tomorrow in class." Mrs Dubowitz announced as we exited history class around nine in the morning. It took every ounce of my will power not to March down to the principal's office and demand a new schedule. One that didn't involve history at 8am every day.
Carting my new history textbook back to my locker, I marvelled at it newness. "How was class?" Foluke asked when I reached my locker besides each other's.
It made my heart warm up that Foluke was still willing to be my friend even after all that had transpired between I and Alain.
"I had Mrs Dubowitz." I thought that was all the explanation I needed.
Foluke burst out laughing."That bitchy old which! I bet you had fun?"
"Yeah, i did."
"You know some students actually think she's a real witch." Foluke whispered as she closed her locker with her new book inside.
I did the same , propping my shoulders on the cold metal while crossing my arms.
"Really?"
A new voice that I'd never heard before chipped in the conversation. "Totally. When I was a freshman I heard her reciting a spell during lunch time when she thought she was alone in the teachers lounge."
"You're kidding!" Foluke kept talking as if the beautiful creature in front of them she knew and conversed with often.
"Dead. Serious. It was all in Latin ." The girls long Chestnut hair gracefully fell over her shoulders and cupped her round cheeks. She had a youthful inviting glow. "Anyways, I actually came over to say hello to you." She turned towards me.
That was strange.
"I'm Rosa Parks. Chief editor, Greenville's High gossip review column. You're welcome to share any interesting topic with me, plus you can also sit at lunch with me."
Well first of all, I didn't even know the school had a gossip boot or whatever. But she wasn't surprised, so far, I'd come to discover that everything was possible in this town.
"Wow! Thank you! I appreciate that. And it's so nice to meet you."
"Of course!" Rosa flipped her hair over her shoulders. "I have to get to class but I'd see you later. Foluke, Orange is such a beautiful colour on you. See you around!"
"Thanks, Rosa." Foluke politely said as Rosa floated down the hall towards her next class.

For lunch, I sat at a table with Foluke and her friends who she finally got to meet me. They pretended they hadn't witnessed the whole interlude with Alain. I got to know Meredith was a runway model, no wonder her classic clothes, And Bisola was a hipster Viber. Foluke was the soul that kept the crew alive, I didn't know much but anyone could see how devoted they where to each other.
"So you signing for any sport in the school?" Meredith spoke breaking into my thoughts. She had wavy black hair and multiple piercings.
"Well I'm thinking about it. Back at home I played soccer." I admitted taking the peels of my banana.
"That's pretty cool, I don't play but my sister does. It's like a compulsory thing over here. I don't get why it's compulsory to participate in a sport if you don't want to."
I appreciated her attitude as well as her trendy boyfriend jeans and haunted silky shirt. "That's cool ." I admitted, "did she say anything about a new student wanting to join the team?"
"Well she did." Meredith shrugged and avoided eye contacts.
""Did it sound bad that.....that I might join the team?"
Meredith gave me a funny look. "You think they're mean? Don't stress it. They're just pretty good, won state championship last year. They don't want anyone to slow them down. And note, they're not trying to get you off the team. You're pretty much allowed to do whatsoever you want as long as you're not causing trouble."
"Seriously?"
"Yeah."
I digested this piece of information slowly. I had argued with mum over the idea of registering for a sport. Everything was just overwhelming, but if what Meredith said was true, then I didn't have much problems as I thought.
When the girls started talking about their holiday and the secret hook-ups they had, I minded my business. I laughed when appropriate and spoke when spoken to. I was just thankful to have somewhere to sit.
Thinking of Alain, the dude himself sat at the table in front of us so that we faced me. On more than one occasion, I looked up to find him staring at me in a way that no one else would notice. He laughed easily with his friends and acted like he wasn't looking at me . I really didn't like how it affected me. When I realized that he wanted to play eye games all lunch long, I couldn't help but drag my eyes up and hope that he would stop looking at me. It was like...like he liked me which was absolutely silly, we didn't even know each other at all.
As I listened to the girls talk, I noticed that Bisola was fairly quiet but chipped in with lewd jokes every now and then that had the whole table doubling over in laughter. For the first in hours, I noticed that Foluke had a captivating and sparkling blue eyes. She spotted a cute mole on her upper lip and everything about her screamed sophistication.
Taking into consideration my observations, I looked up and caught Alain's gaze long enough for him to wink and turn away to laugh at something his friends said. Furrowing my brows, I snapped my banana viciously in half to give myself something to look at rather than Alain's annoying face.
Lost in thought, I didn't notice the cafeteria go dead quiet until I felt a cold gush down my head and sapped into my clothes.
The girls gasped a look of horror on their face. Turning to face who caused such mishap, I was greeted with two dirty slaps on both cheeks and a serious tongue lashing. "You stinking, conniving attention seeker. You dare come here and think you can own this place like it's your daddies property?!"
If I had claws I'd sink them into those beautiful eyes of hers and pull out her hair from her head. "Who are you and what have you done?" I was trying so hard to fight tears.
Rounding our table with her minions she said, "stay as far away as you can from Alain. I warn you. Ask around, everyone knows me."
Grabbing what was left of my lunch, I ran out of the cafeteria in shame and humiliation unable to look anyone in the face. Especially not Alain.
The only reason I was back in this hell hole was because my mother thought it logical and wise. I arrived home a mess after the girls had salvaged what they could out of my dress. I told her about the scenario in school and the only thing she did was smile and say," it's only normal Emmy. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Tomorrow would be better."There, that was the end of the discussion."You won't believe who made the headlines." Foluke said making herself comfortable on the chair next to mine.Curiously, I raised a brow and watched Bisola grab a copy of what seemed to be a magazine.I shrugged nonchalantly," what's so special about being in a magazine?""Firstly," Meredith cleared me, "this is no ordinary magazine, this is the Greenville High gossip review. It carries the latest news of who is cheating on who, who's dating who and recent breakups. And though, I'm not
I let my shoulders drop as I stepped out of the hallway and found my way to the car park. It's not even been upto a week and I had a guy messing with my head. The girlfriend had humiliated me on my first in school and now I had my name on the front page of a stupid school gossip magazine.I let my mind drift off to the conversation I had with the girls. I could picture Meredith now as she said, "But he is so cute. How did he end up with a witch for a girlfriend?" With a dreamy look in her eyes."If you ask us, who do we ask?" Bisola said smirking."isn't that why we have google? Google knows everything. So that should be where u direct your rhetorical questions to next time." Foluke summed. And In that moment I thought how google wouldn't want to have anything to do with her."Watch where you going, will ya?" A voice said drawing me out of my trance. For the first time, I noticed how crowded the lot was. I turned around and caught Alain staring at me, drawing clos
It took us barely two minutes to reach Mitchel's house. Her house was a big white neat house just like the others in Malibu drive which from what I've noticed so far is the lane where all the people who had snobbish attitude and deep pockets stayed. It was a lane for the rich."Are you ready for our first high school party?" Foluke asked as we made our way through the maze of cars."Your first? How come?" I asked, " I thought you guys have been here for like forever?" I looked from her to Simi."Well, before you came, Mitchel had banned us from attending any school party." Bisola said and shrugged, " you can understand now why we desperately wanted to come. Sorry for dragging you into all of this."I was dumbfounded. How could one lean girl be so mean and nonchalant. What was she? A god? For the life of me, I'll never understand how this school operates."It's fine." I said, " at least we're attending one now. Doesn't matter, does it?" I tried to take away th
Immediately I got home, I caught my parents sharing a cup of hot coffee in the living area. "What are you guy's doing up by this time?" I asked."Evening to you too." My replied with sarcasm laced in her voice. "How did it go?""Pretty cool.""Pretty cool? That's it?" She said turning to give me a long good look."Mum, if you're looking for details, I'm the wrong person you should ask." I walked into the kitchen with my mother trailing behind me."Glad you're finally getting to relate." My dad called from behind.I tried not to roll my eyes. If relating meant being locked up in a cupboard then I didn't want to.I entered my room and shut the curtains. The last thing I wanted to see was anything related to the house Nextdoor. As I collapsed on my bed, my eyes caught a simple lemon stick on notes plastered on my window. Curiously, I tiptoed to the window and peeled it off. Instinctively, I raised my eyes to the room opposite mine and saw someone looking at
For the rest of the the day, I spent it indoors counting the ceiling. The only time I went downstairs was when Meredith, Bisola and Foluke showed up. The moment they stepped foot in my room, foluke dramatically went to door and shut it. "Oya, spill." She said."What?" I shrugged pretending not to understand what she was on about.Meredith gave me an all knowing look, "oh please. You can tell us anything. That's why we're friends right.""Juicy, juicy secret. Pretty please tell!" Bisola jumped up and down on the bed."But it's nothing. Why act like I won a trophy or something?""Pretty, please tell!!""Pretty, please tell!!""Pretty, please tell!!" They ganged up and said in unison.I shut my ears with my hands, not wanting to hear anymore of their chanting. Out of nowhere, I felt them tackle me to the ground and began to tickle me.I wriggled and wriggled on the floor untill I could bear it no longer and started laughing. I laughed until I felt li
"OMG!! I can't believe I forgot my trigonometry textbook at home!" I said."No worries, we can share." Foluke said heaping textbooks in her arm, "how was practice?"After a week of attending trigonometry class, I was yet to come to terms with the fact that I was a trigonometry student. I avoided that subject like it was a highly communicable contagious disease. And I've got goodnews too, guess?! I've been accepted into the female baseball team!! Bad news is, I've never been stressed out this much in my entire life.As I walk with foluke to her house, I managed to walk with bones which where all in wreck."It was pretty good. The team has started talking to me more." When I told the news to my mum she had screamed and given me a big hug, "got my uniforms too and I'm starting to learn names slowly but surely.""Honestly, I don't know a lot of girls on the team. They're kind of weird."My curiosity was aroused, "how do you mean?""They never mingle with the
Minutes after Ray dropped me off at home, I yawned and kicked off my shoes locking the door behind me.My dad walked into the room in his glasses and pyjamas, holding chinua Achebe's things fall apart in his hands and looking smug. "You're getting in late.""I'm sorry dad. Trigonometry took longer than I thought. I didn't do it on purpose.""What friend where you with again?" My dad asked and I cracked my head trying to figure out how he knew I'd been out with a friend."Foluke. Foluke olatunji Ibrahim.""Oh, right. Right."I gave him a look."What? You didn't think I keep tabs on the friends you make. The ones who walk right through this door?" He pointed at the front door."Well yeah, I'm a little surprised. Like you're barely home.""I know. I don't need to hear how estranged I am from my family. I'm still trying Emem.""I'm not complaining dad. I'm just surprised that you still have me in mind and that your job hasn't eaten that part up."
"you bloody bitch." Mitchel snarled cornering me the moment I stepped outside the schools gate, "what the hell is your fucking problem?"For a moment there, I was taken aback. "What have I done this time? Is this about your boyfriend again?""Oh please, shut up." A girl I hadn't seen before stepped around Mitchel.I quietly folded my arms under my chest and made to move when Mitchel pushed me with full force I tripped and fell making them burst into giggles.I got up and wiped the dirt off my clothes. "I'd just go now." I said quietly to them, "I do not want trouble.""Did you hear that?" The other girl mimicked, "I'd just go now. I do not want trouble.""Oh you don't want trouble?" Mitchel laughed, "let me guess. You didn't think about trouble, when you started flaunting yourself around my boyfriend?""Excuse you?" I said a bit shocked, "your boyfriend? That's like the most absurd thing I've ever heard.""You heard right. You think I don't see you? I
Guyyyysss.I want to pretend like everything is over but deep down it's not.I'll talk about this some time later and the fact that Emem and Raynard have been sending you secret notes.I can't believe she talks about me like that in my back!!It's not like she lied tho. It's certainly the truth.... but not Im the way she put it.I recall I was trying to check our some sturvs in the Review column... Not like I was reviewing the book.Dang! I feel so embarrassed right now. But,I'm not mad. I promise you.but for now, Let's move to our next book....WINNING WALKER.Thanks for all you do.But yeah, The Boynextdoor Is over.Like my counter people would say...DONE AND DUSTED.
6 years later. "Jake has a girlfriend momma." Little Amelia squealed to her mother."He does , Amelia?" Emem asked, surprise written all over her face."He does, momma." She replied, cupping her mother's cheeks. "I'll never lie to you momma.""Right, Amelia. He told you this?""No mummy. But I've been watching him. you know how you always say, keep an eye on your brother? I've been doing that.""That's so cute." Emem picked up the five old child, spreading mushy kisses on her face. "You know her name?""I don't. " she replied thoughtfully. "You know he always shares his snacks with her?""He does now?" Emem asked."ofcourse momma. I'll never lie to you." She confirmed."You know what Amy?" Emem asked."What mummy?". Amelia asked expectantly."I think we tell daddy about this latest information. you know how he loves to tease you about things like that?""I agree momma. That way, he'll know Jake isn't a saint, right mum?" She asked."Sure Amelia." Emem replied, smiling. Some were
we're getting married!! I'm sure you're excited for us.Ray wanted a big ceremony but I said no. it's going to just be friends and families. And yeah, I'm inviting you all.Guess what? Mr. Stormwind is showing up too!! I'm excited for that too. I know you're going to ask how? well, we patched things up.Alain is showing up to Raven, and Mitchell is going to be there. I can't imagine how that reunion would go.Foluke, Bisola and Meredith are all going to be by my side, cheering me on that big day, I wish you all could come. I'm teary right now.I had my wedding gown shipped in last , and oh!, what a beaut.I know I'm talking to much, but I just thought it would be beautiful to let you guys know how the journey is going.Dang! I almost forgot, Mitchell's going places. I'm so proud of that girl.Raynard's been busy this past months... and oh, how I pity him. I can't wait to get this marriage over with. I laugh remembering how I almost proposed to him. I was in such a haste.I just saw
Ray's POV"You're sure she would love this?" I asked foluke for the hundredth time."Have I ever lied to you? I'm hundred percent certain, Raynard. If she doesn't, have my head. Plus, you owe me hundred dollars for disturbing my sleep. Who raised you kid?" "Will do." I replied."But hold up Ray!" Foluke said, raising a finger. "You're anxious about this? You're definitely swooned.""You don't know anything about that." I replied, marvelling at the accuracy of her statement."Believe me, I Know more than I'm willing to let on. Beside, I don't think we need binoculars for this. It's all over you. In your eyes." She replied."What exactly are we talking about?" I probed."How much you're in love with Emem yonas." She replied, not mincing words."Dang!! Do you always have to be blunt?" I asked."I'll answer that, only if you make what you owe me three bucks." She replied."You're an extortionist." I laughed, shaking my head. "I thought so too. Now you get going, you have a girlfriend to
Guys!!!it's been such a beautiful journey with you. Thinking right now how my journey would be if I didn't have you, I cringe .No one wants to spend eternity alone. Raynard is actually vexed that this took a little longer than planned, but it's nothing a little kiss can not solve. winks* He's that easy.Another thing... Ray's jealous over the fact that we're starting a new story.... With a new make hero , Walker. can you believe that?He thinks walker is going to be way hotter than him.. How absurd Is that. I know he likes to show off.. like, be the center of attention. That's my baby. but whatever, We just have two more chapters to go and we're done. The boy nextdoor was definitely a journey and I pray you find yours. He doesn't necessarily have to live nextdoor.I heard the girl in the next book, Steyn, is strong at heart. I heard she's beautiful too. Honestly, I feel so sad for her because unlike Ray, Walker is going to punish her!!.You see that too??But whatever.... she's a gi
Hello guys, I'm sure my reputation precedes me... but hey.... I'm much better in real life.A little arrogant with a touch of sassiness... lol... don't know if there's a word like that. I will. But till then.... if you find someone to love, love them well cuz that shit ain't easy.love,Raynard Stormwind.
I stumbled out of my apartment in New Jersey, almost tripping on my sneakers. Heaven's help me. I was always late for the bus but not today. It was weekend and that meant spending it over at Ray's.I didn't stop running and tripping until I was inside the bus. Yeah! I mentally congratulated myself. I had a lot to gist Ray about when I got to New York City.I held until the railings of the rickety old bus that led to New York, as though my life depended on it. The gown I wore clung beautifully to my body. Ray would love it, I thought, congratulating myself. The distance from New Jersey to New York was just two miles, and I wondered why he wouldn't let me drive."If it isn't Emem?" I heard someone call my name and turned immediately to acquaint myself with whomever it was. You can imagine my shock when I realized it was Mitchell. Never in my life would I believe in Mitchell using the bus. "Well. Hello Mitchell." I replied, taking the empty sit beside her. "It's been what? Four , fi
As this book is approaching an end..I'll love to appreciate those of you that stood by me. I want to say thank you for the votes..... Joy Esplana, Ashley, Katila Ailer, Kelli Harrison and Annetjie Steyn... you're all motivations....thank you.*. *. .....*. *. *. *. *. "Holdup, girl!! You definitely are going to wear that to your boyfriend's graduation?" Meredith asked, looking at the piece of clothing in my hands like it was thrash."Ofcourse!" I rolled my eyes, "Give me two reasons why I shouldn't wear jeans to my boyfriend's graduation.""Girl, you wanna be a laughing stock? Alright. You want to go down greenville's history book looking like that? Alright." Foluke squared her shoulders. "Problem is, you're my friend and I can't let you go to Greenville's high graduation looking like that.
I recounted my experience with the girls, not leaving out a single detail." You're a woman now." Foluke cupped my cheek, sounding like I had achieved something precious. "He definitely got plans for you.""Yeah?" Meredith grinned. "I can't believe you finally did it, and imagine, the both of you twinning!! It's like a dream!"I rolled my eyes. " We're not twinning, Meredith." I replied. "Call it a coincidence, maybe. Ray personally handpicked these clothes from his closet.""You don't say!" Bisola grabbed my shoulders. "These are Ray's clothes? Damn girl! I heard he shops from top brands!""Well, there's only one way to dispell that rumour." Meredith said, leaning in and reaching for the label at the back of the tee, "Louis Vuitton?" She grinned. "He definitely comes from wealth."Foluke rolled her eyes. " Coming from a fashion model? Meredith, you practically land your hand on these clothes before they come to us. What you on about exactly?"We laughed out loudly. "Meredith has alwa
