Two men, different from before, dragged her out of the cold dungeon. Amethyst was too weak to stand on her feet and thus, had to rely on the men's strength to lift her.
They went out through the same back door and reached a waiting carriage. There, a tall man wearing a black mask that covered his entire face was waiting."The elf is here!" Lord Leteas said as he beamed at the mysterious masked man."What happened to her?" asked the man when Amethyst's dirty, weak and battered body came into his view. Plus, her tattered and soiled nightdress was disturbing to see. Also, she reeked of blood!Lord Leteas smiled and replied, "Well, she misbehaved and thus was sentenced to confinement to correct her manners. But, I assure you that she has broken nothing on her body. It's our creed to make sure anything we sell still retains its highest quality."It was a happy day for Lord Leteas when he heard about a mysterious wealthy man looking for golden-eyed elves. The greedy lord reached out to him and agreed to sell her but for a million Numand. Surprisingly, the masked man agreed instantly and thus it explained why Amethyst was dragged out of the dungeon.Amethyst lifted her face and glared at Lord Leteas. 'Nothing was broken, my foot!' she cursed inwardly. Her soul was broken and who would compensate her for it?"Hmm," the masked man responded Lord Leteas. He observed the battered-looking elf from the two holes of his mask, where his eyes were. "Come here," he said to her.The two men let go of Amethyst's arms but since her body was too weak, she fell to her knees on the ground. The elf grimaced when her fall only exaggerate her wounds and they bled."Hey, get up!" Lord Leteas yanked her hair, showing off his authority."Stop!" the masked man said. His voice tensed.Lord Leteas glanced at him. "Why, good sir?""You're hurting her."Lord Leteas glanced at the battered-looking elf before he glanced back at the man. Then, he chuckled and replied, "Well, I'm not sure if you're aware but slaves a meant to be treated like one. Don't be too soft on them or they'll trample on you." Then, he yanked the elf's hair again, urging her to stand up."Let go of my possession, Lord Leteas Greath," the masked man instructed and his tone turned colder. "I didn't expect to see this is how you handle something that you sold to me for a million Numand."Lord Leteas broke into a sheepish smile when he noticed his fault. He let go of Amethyst's hair and stammered, "M-my apologies, good sir."The masked man looked at Amethyst. "Can you stand up?" His voice suddenly turned tender.Lord Leteas widened his eyes in disbelief. He had never heard any of his customers treat their slaves so gently as the mysterious masked man did. Perhaps, it could be love at first sight or it could be that this man knew nothing about handling slaves.Amethyst felt her eyes water. She had not heard such a tender voice from any of the humans and she was immediately reminded of her fellow elves when she heard his voice."I can't move..." she answered. Her voice was too faint. The masked man glanced at Lord Leteas. "It seemed to me that you've poorly handled my valuable asset. I expect to see it in great shape but you're giving me something as shabby as this!"Lord Leteas turned speechless but then he said, "Good sir, it wasn't my fault. She misbehaved because she is too rebellious, and this is the only way I can handle her so she can follow commands.""I don't fancy beating my prized possession," the masked man stated coldly. His tone was still calm although one could already guess that he was displeased. "Lord Leteas Greath, how are you going to make up for this? You've promised it to be of the highest quality but this one didn't look like what I anticipated or did you fool me into buying a phoney?""Good sir, I assure you that I-""Please, take me..."The masked man and Lord Leteas glanced down when they heard the faint plea."Please, take me..." Amethyst repeated. Her sole hope rested on the mysterious masked man and she remembered her conversation with the annoying voice from three days ago. Could this man be the good news?Lord Leteas beamed brightly. "Did you hear that, good sir? She is pleading with you to take her!"His greed was clearly shown on his face. One million Numand was an amount that he couldn't get anywhere else, and surprisingly the elf was helping him to get it.Then, he said harshly to the elf, "Hey, remember, this man is your new master and you must serve him throughout your life!" Then, he found himself smirking when he thought of the days when he would be counting gold coins amounting to a million Numand!Amethyst lowered her face and continued to plead with the masked man, "I'll do anything for you. So, please take me..."To get away from the wretched place would become a priority. So, she would do anything to achieve that goal. The masked man inhaled deeply. "Very well, I'll take you with me since that's what you wanted."He got down on one knee and draped his jacket over her exposed body and then, he carried her in his arms. They entered the carriage and after that, the carriage moved, leaving the dreadful place.Inside the carriage, Amethyst was too weary and she rested her head against his firm chest and fell asleep.Just this once, she thought she would drop all of her guards for the sake of getting some sleep....Amethyst woke up when the carriage was not moving. She saw the masked man sitting near the door, guarding her."Are you awake?" she heard him ask as he turned in her direction but she could only see the black mask in the place of his face."I am," she responded and rearranged the jacket that was still wrapping her body. "Where are we right now?"The place outside was different from the place she was at before. The place was much smaller in space and less populated."We're in Lind Town, one of the towns that were a little bit far from Hevean City the place where I got you."Amethyst looked at the masked man. "Are you going to make me pleasure men here?"The masked man chuckled. "Do you want to?""I don't want to," Amethyst answered faintly but her answer was straightforward and the message was clear. The first ever man that was sent to her was now bedridden and she never regretted attacking him although the method she used was...too horrendous for a human and even for herself who had to perform the attack."Then, you have nothing to worry about for I won't allow anyone to touch you," the man said.Amethyst rearranged her position, braving the pain that tormented her entire body. After she was comfortable enough about her sitting position, she began, "By the way, my name is Amethyst Elan. May I know yours or how should I address you?"The man moved closer to her. "You can call me, Luveas." Excitement danced in his voice.Amethyst looked deep into the two holes in the black mask hoping to see his eyes, but she saw nothing."Nice to meet you, Luveas," she said politely. Although she should be wary about him, manners should come first and then she would deal with the rest later."Nice to meet you too, Amethyst Elan," Luveas responded.Suddenly, he leaned closer and his mask was too close to her face as if they were about to kiss. "You smell so sweet..." he stated softly.Amethyst turned mum at the unexpected statement. For dear sacred animals in Ancea, she smelt nothing as sweet as he said. How could she smelt sweet when she was covered in filth and also blood? The elf felt her blood pulse and she had no idea if she should be happy or terrified. Then, out of the blue, she said, "I am quite knowledgeable about medicine, and if you have any trouble anywhere on your body, I can help to heal you." She meant it, literally in every sense of it. It would be disheartening to know her saviour suffers from something that an elf like her could heal. Luveas sat back and laughed, amused. So, she thought I had a problem with my nose, he thought. "I'll keep that in mind and I'll surely seek you out when I'm feeling unwell anywhere on my body," he responded.Amethyst looked out the window, a cue that she wasn't interested in continuing to talk about her scent. "I'm famished and if I ask for some food, are you going to cut my neck?" she asked, changing the topic. "Why would I do such a thing to someone that I consider mine?" Luveas' voice reached her ears. In his voice, surprise took over. Amethyst found herself getting uncomfortable. The man was a swe
Amethyst woke up, groaning. Her jaws ached. Her wounds hurt. Her stomach grumbled. Nothing was pleasant. The weary elf lifted her bedsore face and glanced around. "Where am I?" she mumbled. Her voice was raspy for her throat was dry.She was on a large four-poster bed with velvety sheets and pillows. White veils mantled the bed from the canopy down to the white wooden floor, curtaining the bedsides. Living green veins with blooming flowers coiled the bed posts, adorning them. The pleasant and soft scent of the flowers tickled her nostrils which were only familiar with the strong and pungent scent of dust and rust. The elf found herself admiring the bed as it was something that she had never seen in her life. Then, she crawled on all four to the bedside, pushed the veils gently to one side, and then, poked her head out.She was inside a strange room that looked like a massive glass dome. The skylight was high above her head, and the room was bright from the inside out. About twenty str
Luveas was walking down the huge hallway when a man with fair white skin and red eyes dashed towards him."Your Majesty!" cried the man. Two sharp fangs could be seen in his mouth.Luveas halted and clicked his tongue unhappily. "I am busy, Tobeyaz."Tobeyaz came to a screeching halt before him. His eyes widened. "Busy? What kind of busy are you implying? Why must you go missing on such an important day? Do you even know what today is reserved for?!""Tobeyaz, please...""Your Majesty, if you want to stop me from nagging then, fulfil your duty. We cannot delay today's event any longer. Today is a very important day for the future of Luthien!""Tobeyaz, you talk too much." Luveas groaned unhappily. “Can I get a little break from your endless yapping?"It's you who turned me into this talkative parrot! You must return to the hall this instant! Everyone is waiting!" Tobeyaz snapped."I am busy!" Luveas said and then paced, ignoring him."Your Majesty, please don't do this!" Tobeyaz cried
Luveas was seen inhaling and exhaling deeply, taking his time. Then, came his reply in the form of a question, “When have I said I am one of them?” Amethyst felt her whole body shivering. Her heart palpitated. “Stay away from me,” she hissed at him.Nothing seemed pleasant when they were inside a room that looked like a cage. At any minute, this man, no, this vampire could attack and tear at her neck.“Amethyst, I am not going to harm you.” Luveas paced forward.“Get out of my sight!” Amethyst shouted and scooted to the other end of the bed, holding a pillow dear to her chest.“Amethyst-”“Get out!”Luveas ignored her shouting command as he lifted the veil, and he saw her cowered at the end of the bed.“Amethyst," he said, "I’m sorry for not telling you about myself. I didn’t mean to hide it. I thought of telling you soon, but given your situation, I thought I ought to hide it. But, trust me, I won’t hurt you. I am different from the other vampires for I have the power to protect you
Luveas was returning to the garden bedroom when he noticed Amethyst’s silhouette at the window. But the silhouette hurried away upon his sight. He halted in his tracks. He felt a pang in his chest but he couldn’t quite explain what it was. Then, he remembered she had not eaten anything since he took her home and the attempt to feed her was to no avail.Inhaling deeply, Luveas turned on his heels and left. He went to the underground dungeon in his palace where humans were kept but not a single elf was in sight. He knocked the cages, freaking the life out of the captives. He asked, “Who among you can cook?” He eyed them one by one. However, none responded. Everyone was terrified. Who in their sane mind would answer such an eerie question from someone who preys on them? The question alone sounds the same as ‘who wants to be eaten first?’Luveas said nothing after he was given silence as an answer. He left shortly after that and went to Blyne Town, one of the four large towns in Luthien.
"We do but we don't eat vegetables," said Luveas. "Then, what did you just give me?" asked Amethyst."Humans' gourmet," Luveas said. "Forgive me for not saying anything because I didn't want to starve you. Also, I don't know what the elves normally have.""Fruits, vegetables, fish and bakes."Luveas lifted his face, surprised. Does that mean she trusts him now?Silence filled the dimly lit room. Amethyst, getting uncomfortable with his silence, then said, "Since you got nothing else to do, please leave.""Do you need to bathe?" Luveas asked, jumping into a new topic. Somehow he was suddenly feeling elated. "I'll have one after you leave," answered Amethyst coldly. She would never take a bath in the presence of her enemy. "Then, allow me to prepare the water for you.""Sure.""Can I light the candles?""Go ahead."Luveas lit the candles to brighten the room. Then, he filled the tub that was only twenty strides away from the bed, and it was hidden behind a standing screen. Beside th
Amethyst inhaled deeply. "Can we stop talking about that?" she asked, feeling a little agitated. "Right now, I need to get as many ointments as I can because I need them for my wounds. If you could just let me return to Ancea, I could get it hea-""I'll get the best ointments for your wound," interrupted Luveas. He rose from the floor which caused the elf to retreat to the corner again.Luveas froze at her sudden action. He wanted to stay something but zipped his lips. The only thing he said to her was, "Stay in this room until I return."Amethyst stood still where she stand and watched when the vampire left the room until he was out of her sight. Then, she moved to the bow window and gazed upon the garden where tall peach trees grew abundantly and blossomed beautifully. The flower beds and colourful hedges added a serene scenery around the place. The elf was itching to go out but, she was restricted by the stern warning from Luveas. Also, in Luthien, she might turn into an instant me
Amethyst turned pale after she heard that from him. She retreated even deeper into the corner, petrified. Her long pointy ears, she covered them from his view. "How could you have such thoughts?!" she shouted frantically, cupping her ears. "That's forbidden!""Forbidden?" croaked Luveas in surprise. He had no idea about that. Amethyst was already on the brink of tearing up. She had no idea that a non-elf would be tempted to touch her ears. The fear and stress she felt only intensified. To an elf, touching their ears was forbidden for it could trigger many things that were unmentionable to impure hearts.Luveas, after seeing her frantic behaviour, immediately got on his knees. "Forgive me, I have no idea it's forbidden!" Then, he lifted his face. "Please, forgive me!"Amethyst zipped her lips when she puckered before him. She didn't mean to show such a face but, she unintentionally did it. Suddenly, Luveas said, "Ah, I brought the medicines that you asked for." He hurriedly got up
For the next two days, Luveas spent his day ogling at his reflection in the mirror. He was excited that his appearance varied greatly than he anticipated."Do I look like my father or my mother?" He had been asking that question for two days in a row now. Amethyst smiled and responded, "I have no answer for that but I am certain you do look like them as one."Luveas beamed. He stepped away from the mirror and sat beside her. Then, he snuggled at her."I am glad to hear that..." Ever since he transformed, he became too attached. It wasn't unpleasant because Amethyst knew he had no one else to be with whom he could confide in his happiness but her. Also, she endured the urge to smack him. "Luveas, since your treatment is now done, have you been thinking of returning to Luthien?" she asked, dropping another question at him.Luveas flinched. He went into silence."I have never thought of that..." he answered. His gaze dropped. The time he spent with her made him forget that he was a r
It was yet another night where Luveas was already in bed, sleeping soundly. He was deep into the world of unconsciousness. Nothing could wake him. Amethyst stepped into the room with a bowl of water drawn from the sacred pool. She placed it beside the bed as she took a seat beside him. There, she sat for some time. One had no idea what was in her mind. Her silent gaze ran along the bandages that covered his entire body and face. Her gaze turned tender as time went by. But, sadness was visibly permeating her eyes. A smile, remnants of her courage, appeared on her otherworldly beautiful face. She reached out and caressed his head affectionately."Your wait shall end tonight..." she whispered.Truthfully, she had wanted to prolong his treatment. She wanted to buy more time to create moments for just the two of them that she would remember forever. But, she knew he might not have much time in his account. She knew she would be gambling on her life as soon as he got what he came here
Luthien...Tobeyaz was working on papers related to problems in the territories of Luthien when Ealyas entered."A letter has arrived from Numany," he announced and placed the letter on the table. Tobeyaz, with a haggard-looking face, eyed the letter. His mood wasn't there yet."How did this letter get through the border?" he asked. His tone was sinister. He had handled numerous cases of vampires going against vampires; one blamed the other for being in cahoots with the humans by the border. Well, it was understandable that many cases of missing young vampires led to distress."It was catapulted into our forest." Ealyas' response was simple though sounded funny.Tobeyaz scoffed. "Then, throw it away. This must be one of those pesky humans' stupid games to distract our soldiers.""Are you sure of that?" asked Ealyas and scrutinized the haggard-looking Tobeyaz.Tobeyaz knitted his brows. When the knight asked such a question, it only meant something serious."The emblem on the envelo
Amethyst stayed silent. "You tell me how far you can go. I leave that choice in your hands," she said, trying to lead him. But, her mien stayed the same; no changes in her emotions. She was calm and fixated. Luveas fidgeted. "But, what if I want to take it too far? Would you allow it?"Amethyst smiled. "Of course, I would allow it," she responded. "You are the only person who gets such permission from me."Because of the spousal markings.Luveas eyed her keenly. "I might treat you as someone dear to me.""Treat me as how you like. I am yours, remember?"Luveas stayed silent. He forgot about that. After all of the fiasco during the day, he forgot about the oath. Then, he asked, "But, what if I want us to get intimate tonight? Would that become a problem for you?" He thought he ought to ask that crucial question for he had no idea what she was thinking.Amethyst smiled even more widely. "That would not become a problem. You are my traveling companion and we can get physically close..."
Luveas began, "During my childhood, my parents were killed. Humans ambushed us when we were picnicking in the palace backyard..."Melancholy danced in Luveas' weary eye when he revisited the painful memory lane. Humans appeared out of nowhere and killed his parents. Strangely, on the day of the former king and queen's assassination, not a single guard appeared on the scene. That moment was still a mystery to him until today."I was too young to understand anything and the one thing I knew was humans took me in as something they studied," he added painfully. His voice bore pure hatred when he mentioned 'studied'. Amethyst knitted her brows. "Something they studied?" She had no idea Humans would do such a thing to other races.Luveas nodded. "Humans studied the endurance of young vampires to estimate the strength of adult vampires. They wanted to find the best weapon to kill us if they could find our weaknesses,” he paused again, seemingly inhaling a deep breath although it wasn’t cert
Amethyst nodded. "Yes, and please repeat after me...""Wait, wait..." Luveas stopped her. "What Oath are we talking about now?"Amethyst eyed him piercingly. "Are you doubting me?"Luveas shook. The elf nodded. "Then, since you have nothing else to say, then follow what I say. From today onward and until death do us part, say my name, is mine and I, say your name, am hers. I shall be granted freedom to roam Ancea just as her."Luveas hesitated. "Uh, that sounds so strange for an oath...""Just do it!" snapped the elf. She was getting impatient for she wanted to end the process soon. Luveas, despite his wariness, said, "From today onward and until death do us part...""Say my name, is mine and I, say your name, am hers.""...Amethyst Elan is mine and I, Luveas Dayn, am hers. I shall be granted freedom to roam Ancea just as her."Amethyst beamed in satisfaction. Then, she glanced at his chest which was h
On the other hand, Amethyst pursed her lips and followed Luveas to the burial site. There, she saw mounds everywhere. Each mound was showered with flower petals.Again, the elf found her composure slipping away slowly. Her chest tighten as she got emotional. All of her people were lying there, resting in eternal slumber. She couldn't believe she'd be one among the elves in Ancea who mourned the loss of her entire tribe; she hoped some survived and hid in the woods...She glanced at Luveas. He was busy placing the bones in the holes that he had dug out. Her heart ached, but it wasn't because of anger. It was more like she was touched deeply by his unexpectedly humble side.Tears filled her eyes. "Thank you, Luveas..." she said faintly. 'Now, I'm glad I marked you as my husband...' she added inwardly....After burying all the bones, Luveas went into the woods. "I want to find a flower that suits your sister," he said before he went fo
Luveas nodded and stayed silent throughout the journey. Their journey took another countless hours before they arrived at a village, a deserted village. There were cottages but, the buildings collapsed to the ground. The wild grasses grew abundantly, covering nearly half of them. The walking trails were all covered by dirt, remnants of the explosion, and moss took over some of the places. The smell of decay and burnt wood lingered in the air for there were lots of dried-up skeletons covered in clothes lying around; some still held swords and arrows. Some got arrows piercing their skulls and bodies.Amethyst froze where she stood. Her chest tightened. The memories of the horrendous day flashed in her mind. She could vividly hear the screams and cries of her kin floating around as if she had stepped back to the past; to the day when humans ambushed her, once peaceful and thriving, village. The elf covered her ears when their voices only grew loude
Luveas looked at her. "I'm not unhappy. I'm speechless. I've never asked anyone their age before..."He had no one close to share and ask such things. He had always been lonely since his childhood because he trusted no one after the passing of his parents. Amethyst said nothing when Luveas fell into a trance. She ate silently and after she was done, she went to lie down near the fire."Are you not worried that I might attack you?" asked Luveas after he placed the empty plate away. He noticed she didn't seem to be as wary as their first encounter.Amethyst fluttered her eyes open. "I'm not worried.""Why?"She inhaled deeply and responded, "...because the moment I die, Nature would have properly dealt with you, and you might need to go bid farewell to Ancea forever."Luveas looked around, eyeing the flora around them, fearing that something might smack him."Hmm, that's disheartening..." he replied.Ame
