CHAPTER ONE

“Ameliah!” Her mother called.

“I’m coming mum” a 6 years old girl said. Then she stood up and ran to her mother.

As she reached where her mother was standing she stretched her hands to her mum..“Mom, look. I picked some flowers for you, do you like it?” she said with a smile.

Mrs Lindsey bent down in front of Ameliah and ruffled her hairs…

“Awn you a’re so sweet my Lia, come here”Mrs Lindsey said as she picked Ameliah up from the ground

“Thank you for the flowers, they’re beautiful but remember…” Mrs Lindsey was about to say something before she was interrupted by her daughter..

“I know. I should always be careful not to go out alone because there are a lot of snakes and wolves that can eat me” She said with a bored expression.

Her mother pinched her cheeks and put her down..

“And it’s also rude to interrupt elders when they’re talking” He mom said.

Ameliah nodded and ran inside their small hut.

“Daddy, daddy, daddy. Look what I picked; fresh flowers. You want some?" She said happily showing her dad the flowers.

Her father was lying on a mat with a hat on his face. Ameliah went and sat down on her dad’s belly.

“Dad, stop sleeping. You’re too lazy” She said with her arms crossed across her chest.

“Watch your mouth Lia, or else you’re going to wake up the tickle machine” her dad teased

“I’m not even scared” She said and stuck her tongue out…

Her father stood up and they began running round the house playing, giggling and laughing..

'If only life was so simple and beautiful like this', Ameliah’s mother thought.

Ameliah ran and hid behind her mother.

“Mother, daddy wants to tickle me to death” She said with a pout.

Her dad walked to them and stood in front of his wife.

“I just want to tickle her till she pees on herself” He said as he wounded his hands round his wife’s waist.

“Not allowed, she’s my baby” Mrs Lindsey said as she wraps her arms round her husband neck.

“Maybe I’ll get occupied with you now” Mr. Lindsey said as his face moved closer to his wife lips..

“Ohh no, not again!! Go and find a room for that” Ameliah whined which brought the couples back to earth.

“I have to go to work now” Mr Lindsey said as he put on his hat.

Actually Mr Lindsey is a farmer, he works in a cornfield.

“Alright dad, don’t forget to keep me some corn!!” Ameliah said as she hugged her father.

“Sure my princess, goodbye!!” He said and waved goodbye before leaving.

'I want nothing more in life but to see mommy and daddy happy', Ameliah thought as she watched her father walk away.

“You have to work harder, Stephen, a day will come when you’ll be the leader, the leader of all the vampires.” A man dressed in an all black robe said to a 10 years old boy who was standing up from the ground, looking beaten.

“I know dad, and I want to be strong. So I can make you proud,you and mother” Young Stephen said while dusting his outfit…

“Attack me son” The man said as he pocketed his hands.

Stephen’s eyes turned red and he lunged at his father with full speed but his father effortlessly dodged it.

Stephen then lifted his hands to hit his father but he caught it and with a single hand he threw Stephen away. He hit his back heavily on the tree before falling down on the ground…

“You’re too weak Stephen, how do you expect to become a leader when you’re such a weakling. It makes me wonder if you really are my son” Stephen’s father spa and walked away leaving Stephen on the ground.

The young boy stood up and wiped his tears

“I’ll become a leader, leaders don’t cry, they protect their kind.”Stephen said to himself as he stood up from the ground.

He pocketed his hands too, seems like a habit to him. He’s a kid but was brought up to think like a grown up.

With a grumpy expression, he began walking away to an unknown road with only his feets guiding him…

Ameliah was playing outside with her two and only friends, Gigi and Paolo.

“Catch me if you can,,” Paolo said as Gigi and Ameliah ran after him.

Giggles and laughter were heard as the three kids played together.

“Lia, your father is home!!!” Mrs Lindsey shouted.

Ameliah’s face immediately brightened up. She waved goodbye to her friends before running home.

Immediately she spotted her dad, she ran and hugged him.

“Daddy did you bring me some corn?” She asked with big puppy eyes.

“No, but I bought something better for you”He said and brought out a box and handed it to Ameliah.

She took it with her small hands and opened it. She immediately let out a gasp as she saw two beautiful bangles, pink in color.

“Wow, bangles!! I love it dad. Thank you!!” She said as she pecked her dad’s cheek.

She immediately put it on and stared at it happily…

“I’m going to show it to Gigi and Paolo. I’ll be back” She said and immediately ran out of their hut.

She ran to where they were playing but they weren’t found.

Where could they be? She thought as she placed her hands on her waist.

I know, maybe they’re at the cornfield. They use to play there."She thought and immediately ran to the cornfield.

Ameliah ran and reached there in some minutes. She entered the cornfield and searched the area where they used to play but they weren’t there.

“Maybe they went home” She said with a shrug and turned to go home but then she heard some sound behind her..

After some thinking she decided to follow where the voice was coming from. She walked out of the cornfield and she saw a person’s back, looked like a kid to her but why is he wearing black? Did someone die?

“Who are you?”She said, which made the person turn and face her and it was a boy!

“I should be asking you this question, what are you doing here?” Stephen said with his hands in his pocket.

Ameliah folded her arms on her chest.

“This is where my father works, I can come here whenever I want” She said while walking closer to Stephen. She gasped as she saw his bruised face.

Ameliah, not minding if he’s a stranger or not, brought her hands to his face and cupped Stephen’s cheek…

“What are you doing?” Stephen said with a frown.

“Just stay still, will you? Whenever I get a bruise, mommy will always blow on it. It always works” Ameliah said and began blowing air on Stephen’s bruise.

Stephen stood still feeling uncomfortable and also a little bit happy.

“Alright that’s enough” Stephen said as he lightly pushed Ameliah away from him. From her smell Stephen already knew she’s a human.

Ameliah sat down on the grass and looked at Stephen.

“Do you need an invitation to come and sit?”She said with a brow arched up.

“No, I don’t want to. You’re a human” He said as he pocketed his hands.

“So, you’re human too right?”She replied

Stephen sighed defeatedly and went to sit down beside her.

They both stared at the sky with different thoughts on their head: Ameliah thinking of corns and Stephen thinking of how his future will look like.

“I’m Lia and you?”She said as she stretched her hand to Stephen.

“I’m Stephen” He took the hand shake.

Suddenly both of them felt a kind of electric shock through their body. They quickly released their hands and looked at themselves.

“What was that” They both chorused

“I don’t know, maybe it was just our imagination” Ameliah said

'How can we imagine the same thing', Stephen thought but shrugged the feeling away.

Ameliah stood up and dusted her dress…

“I need to go now, here, have one of my bangles as a sign of friendship” Ameliah said as she handed one of the bangles to Stephen.

Stephen took it with a weird expression. What will he be doing with a girl thing?

“Goodbye Stephen” Ameliah said and ran away.

Stephen watched her till she disappeared into the cornfield. He looked at the bangle and wore it on his arm. He looked at it and smiled before running away with the speed of light.
