Let’s see those gems and comments! This book does well and I can get a sequel going!
Alpha Avery I wake up extra early, unable to sleep. I am over the moon at the progress we made, but confused as to what is holding her back. I wonder if her fear is the reason her wolf has yet to show herself or if Haley has mentally put a block up preventing her wolf from coming out. I’ve never heard of that happening, but there has to be some explanation. Haley must’ve gone through pretty traumatic events while at Red Moon. I am awake before everyone in the house so I decide to head to my office to get some paperwork completed. Maybe I can get enough done to hang out with Haley today. There is a knock on my office door and I look at my clock. It’s still only six in the morning. Who would be needing to see me at this hour. “Come in.” I immediately regret it. In walks Amanda. She is a skilled warrior I’ll give her that, but she doesn’t hide the want for me to choose her as my mate. At first I thought it was just a kid crush but once she turned eighteen her advances increased. Now
Haley It’s helpful that I don’t have a scent to anyone. I just need to be stealthy and get past border patrol. I easily find the patrol’s blind spot and step over the territory into no man’s land. I know this will be dangerous if I run into rogues, who will want to sell me as a slave, or wild rogues who will kill me without a second thought. “Don’t worry Haley, you have me now. We can take on anyone.” I like that Hazel is confidant. It makes me feel better because I do not feel strong enough to fight off an attack. The further we get away from Crescent Moon, the harder I struggle to push forward. My body and mind are struggling with leaving my mate behind, I didn’t realize it would be this difficult. I feel like I am being ripped in two as we move farther and farther from Crescent Moon. “Our bond is stronger than I have ever felt before. It’s normally not this hard Haley.” “We need to push through. I will not let him die because of me. His pack needs him, the slaves need him to b
Haley I can’t believe I am standing in front of the cabin I last saw my parents. It’s looks run down a bit but at least the roof is in tack. As the sun sets I can feel the temperature drop fast so we head inside so we can build a fire inside. “This will work Hazel. I can pin up blankets so the light doesn’t let out into the night.” “Are you sure Haley? You might not like what you see inside.” “We don’t have a choice Hazel. It’s dark and I don’t want to build a fire in the open, we would be spotted too easily.” She knows I am right. We are just going to have to suck it up and face whatever is inside. Hazel gives me back control and I throw my clothes back on. I carefully walk up the steps, making sure the wood hasn’t rotted. I turn the handle to the front door and push it open. The door creaks open and I have to use my wolf eyes to see where I am going. Thankfully the windows still have their curtains on them. I rummage through the draws and find the hammer and nails my dad kept a
Haley It seems blood red wolves have used this book as a journal and it gets passed down to the next one. The last entry is from the fifties. I can’t believe what I am reading. This has got to be some sick joke right? ‘December 1952 A dark witch has successfully created a potion that will make a blood red wolf obedient to her master. There is no known cure at this time. My mother is lost, gone and I’m never going to get her back. Blood red wolves beware, trust no one. I have gone into hiding deep in the woods where no humans or wolves live. It’s a hard life but at least I am free.’ ‘March 1953 Someone has found me, I am going to have to leave. He was just a human but still, I need to be cautious. I just don’t know where I am going to go.’ ‘August 1953 I ran into a wolf today. He is my mate. He wants me to come live with him in his pack and I’ve said yes. He doesn’t know what I am but I can keep that a secret and we can live happily together.’ ‘March 1954 I have given birth to
Alpha Avery “Alpha, there are a good twenty Red Moon wolves in the area,” says one of my trackers. “We must be getting closer. Faster, something is wrong with Haley.” My wolves and I push ourselves harder than we ever have before. I can hear snarling and screaming, making Spartan push himself even harder. If they have harmed her in any way, I’ll rip their throats out. “Get off me!” Haley is trying to sound confidant but I can feel the fear deep inside her. Alpha Jake must be there. Her fear changes to panic and I know something bad is about to happen. “Please no! No!” Just as they come into view I can see Alpha Jake trying to mark my mate. Haley is struggling against him as hard as she can but she is not yet strong enough. Spartan lets out a terrifying snarl and tackles Jake to the ground. He may have more wolves but mine are stronger. I shift, looking for Haley. I can see Haley stumbling as she tries to stand and all we see is red. They injected her with wolfsbane. “She’s min
Alpha Avery “What’s wrong with her?” “She has a silver knife embedded in her thigh. I don’t know how it got there but we need Dr. Sully to remove it.” “I’ve called the wolves back. They will head straight here to help protect her while you carry her back.” “We don’t have time for that. We need to get back now!” “I’ve mind linked our guys. Helicopter will be at that clearing we passed in five.” I pull Haley into my arms and Mason shifts, grabbing her bag. With the silver knife inside her she can’t heal and the poison will spread to her heart. I am running as fast as my legs can carry me with my brother flanking to my left and some warriors on my right. As if this night couldn’t get any worse, we hear howling in the distance. “Wild rogues,” Mason mind links. “Form up,” I order. My wolves make a formation around me and their Luna. We are almost to the clearing Mason was talking about but I don’t think we’ll make it before the wild rogues happen upon us. Their awful pungent smell
Haley This can’t be my life. In and out of the hospital and constantly getting attacked. How long is it going to take me to recover this time? I thought it was just some wolfsbane. I take in my surroundings and find Alpha Avery sleeping in a chair next to me. “Hazel?” “I’m here Haley. We had sliver stuck inside us and the poison was spreading to our heart. Dr. Sully saved us, we are going to be okay.” “That explains the slow healing then. How long have we been out?” “Just a day. Had we been a normal wolf we would be dead right now.” I move to sit up and groan as my muscle protest the movement. In a chair I see my bag and the book. I sigh in relief, I’m glad it’s still there. I look out the window and see it’s barely sunrise, so the boys must be up for training. “Nick? Ray?” I mind link. “Haley?” They answer in unison. “We are on our way,” says Nick and then the mind link cuts. I sit further up and wince a bit. My leg hurts. I pull the blanket back and find some stitches on
Haley I am on the verge of tears having this conversation with Alpha Avery. He says he understands what’s at risk for him but I can’t risk it. He has this whole pack of wolves that were previously slaves that depend on him along with all the wolves that are still slaves. He has a destiny to fulfill and it can’t fail because of me. Suddenly Nick and Ray burst into the room. They rush to my side and squeeze me. I squeeze them back, crying. Guilt fills me for leaving them behind. “How could you Haley!” “Yeah, Ray and I were worried sick about you. We know we can’t track you because you have no scent.” “That was the point. I didn’t want either of you going after me. You have settled in so nicely here and made friends. I couldn’t ask you to give them up for a life that leads to death.” “That’s not your choice to make Haley, it’s ours,” says Nick “Yeah, we aren’t slaves anymore Haley. We can decide for ourselves what to do with our lives,” says Ray. Ray seems more angry with me than N
