“Where is my patient?” I asked the head nurse leaning forward in my seat across from her.

“He was discharged last night, no?” She asked as if I was supposed to know.

I shifted in my seat at the blank look she was giving me.

Yet, not one word left my lips.

I was not going to appear like a blubbering fool to my superior.

“It is even good that you're here,” she started, rifling through her desk.

“Here, this is your new schedule,” she passed me the sheet of paper.

Without hesitation, I collected it.

“If that is all, I will resume my duties now,” I announced, jumping out of the seat as if it was about to catch fire.

“Yes, enjoy the rest of your shift,”

I exited the office with a slight frown, scanning the schedule, it was similar to my previous shift schedule except for a few minor changes.

Either way, I now had enough time to search for a part time job.

So with a small smile on my face, I went about checking on the patients.

After my eight hour shift, I dashed out of the hospital as if there was someone on my heels, but no, it was all me, and my goal to find a new job.

The sun was setting, yet, it seemed to be shining down on me.

I was not going to be on call for the next eight hours, which should be enough time for a shift at another job.

My pace doubled, as I was in a hurry to reach my junk of a car and continue my job hunting, this time with more optimism.

However, the sight in front of me caused me to halt in my steps.

Standing just a few feet away from me was Lincoln, my patient's brother.

His lips tugged into a small smile at the sight of me.

“Perfect timing, you're just the person I was waiting for!” He exclaimed, stepping closer with a beaming smile.

I frowned, my expression opposing his.

What does he want with me?

“Mr Lincoln,” I greeted with a professional tone.

He stepped closer with a grin, “Come with me, we have something to discuss,” he announced vaguely.

I narrowed my eyes at him, nonplussed at his cheery demeanor.

“Whatever you want to say can be said here,” I was not about to run off into the sunset with some man I knew nothing about except his first name.

“We can't talk about it out here,” he argued with a little hint of a frown, glancing around the busy parking lot.

I sucked my teeth, turning on my heel immediately.

“Wait!” He called out to grab my attention, making me pause in my movements.

“It is something that can change your life forever, but we really cannot discuss it here,” his voice lowered into a whisper,

“It's confidential.”

I stared at him in silence for a moment, contemplating.

He was already taking up my time which I resented him for, but he seemed to be very serious, aside from his stupid smile.

He had my curiosity piqued.

“Alright, but make this quick,” I answered, giving in.

A few minutes later, we sat across from each other in a secluded part of a cafe.

We had come separately since I had been insistent on not getting in his car.

“What Is this about?” I asked, cutting straight to the point.

He tapped his fingers against a manila folder that I just took notice of in his hands.

“I have an offer for you,” he started with a more serious tone, sliding the folder across the table to me.

With furrowed eyebrows, I grabbed the folder, it open.

The first page contained some type of profile of a person named Conrad Zoran.

“That sounds familiar,” I mumbled to myself.

He seemed to have heard, staring straight at me.

“That is my brother, the patient you have been treating for the past month,” He supplied with a blank look.

I hummed distractedly until it clicked.

Conrad Zoran was the billionaire that had been aired on the news, he was my patient all long, and apparently Lincoln's brother.

Now I understood how easily the director had appointed me to the patient.

“Of course, he was.”

I held back a scoff.

My attention averted to Lincoln with a frown, now noticing how expensive his outfit could be. He exuded an aura of subtle affluence.

“What do you want?” My voice changed into a hostile tone.

“I want you to take care of my brother, like you had been doing at the hospital.” He stated plainly.

I gave no reactions to his words, staring at him wordlessly.

At my silence, he continued,

“When he woke up from the coma, he was blind; he could not see from both eyes. The doctor said it was as a result of head trauma and he might regain his sight in the future. Until then, I need somebody to take care of him and treat him at home.” He explained with a distressed crease in his eyebrows.

I paused, taking his words in.

“And what gave you the impression that I'm interested in such a thing?” I asked with raised eyebrows.

He leaned forward in his seat,

“Because you might have a lot to gain, especially with all your financial problems and a job that doesn't pay you well enough-”

“Did you dig up information on me?” I snarled, cutting him off.

“That is not important,” he waved off.

“it's simple, you take care of my brother as a live-in nurse, and you're paid with enough money to live on for the rest of your life,” He simplified.

“And you also have to give me weekly reports on his healing process,” he added calmly.

I contemplated for a bit, even though my decision had already been made at that point.

“Fine,” I agreed with a hint of resignation in my tone.

I hated how he seemed to have the upper hand but as much as I detested his affluence, it was exactly what I need to survive

His face broke into a smug grin at my response.

“Perfect.”
