Aiden just bent there on the spot. He didn't turn around. He didn't need to. He had already sensed Leo the moment he arrived, his scent, his presence thick in the air like a storm rolling in.

Even the sound of his boots pressing into the dirt was slow. If was measured, closing the distance between them and Aiden could notice that, as his ears captured even the faintest sound.

Aiden stayed still, his fingers twitching slightly at his side. He sniffed again as the scent of blood still clung to the air and mixed with the cool night breeze. He didn't like being interrupted, especially not now that it was all about Lucy who could be in danger and needed help.

Leo's voice soon cut through the silence. “What are you doing here?”

Aiden smirked, tilting his head slightly but still not turning around. “I could ask you the same thing.”

Leo stepped closer, his presence not too intimidating. “It's my pack,” he said, his tone laced with impatience. “I don't need a reason to be anywhere. You, on the other hand—”

Aiden chuckled, the sound of it was low and amused. “You think I do?” He finally moved, dragging his fingers along the faint trail of blood before standing straight. His back was still to Leo. “I go where I want. No one restricts me. Not you. Not anyone.”

Leo exhaled sharply, his body shifting slightly. Aiden didn't have to look to know that Leo's jaw was tight, his fists clenched by his side. He was annoyed.

Silence stretched for a moment before Leo spoke again. His voice was calm but there was something underneath it—something usual. “You're here for Lucy, aren't you?”

Aiden's lips twitched, but he didn't answer. He could feel Leo watching him, waiting for confirmation.

Leo took another step. “You're here because of her… aren't you?”

Aiden smiled, and bit his lower lips. He bent his head slightly and tilted it before finally turning to face Leo. He didn't respond right away, he crouched back down, his fingers pressing lightly into the dirt where the blood had dried. He ran his fingertips over it, feeling the texture, the way it had started to settle into the earth.

His expression didn't change, but there was something in his eyes—something sharp. Leo watched him closely, his arms crossing over his chest. He didn't like the way Aiden moved—so calm like he was so sure of himself. Like he already knew something Leo didn't know. The way he touched the blood, like it meant something more. Something precious.

Then Aiden did something unexpected. He extended his hand toward Leo, his fingers stained with blood. It was a silent offer—more of an invitation to come have a taste of it or rather to come smell it.

Leo didn't see that coming. He thought Aiden was avoiding him like the way he was used to doing whenever he questioned him. He thought he would ignore his questions but now this…. He wondered what he meant by that.

Leo's eyes flickered between Aiden's face and the outstretched hand. He understood what Aiden was implying but he didn't move. His body remained tense, his jaw tight.

“What are you trying to say? What's the meaning of this?” Leo asked, his voice more deep.

Aiden tilted his head slightly. “Go on,” his tone was smooth, almost sounding lazy. “You know what I mean. You know what to do, don't you?”

Leo hesitated for a moment but stepped close. He sniffed off the blood on Aiden's finger. The scent hit him first—the metallic, thick circled shape on his finger. His breath deepened instinctively, drawing it in, letting it settle inside him.

He knew it was someone's blood but he could not tell whose blood it was. Leo himself had been on the ground where the scene unfolded even before Aiden got there and had seen the blood, yet he didn't quite understand why the blood was so important and why Aiden wanted him to smell it himself. He wagged his head, thinking deep about who it could have been. He also thought about Lucy as he smelled her scent already, though it was faint but he could also tell that Lucy had been there or maybe, just passed by.

“You still don't get it?” Aiden furrowed his eyebrows.

“Just go straight to the point and tell me what you're trying to say.”

Aiden nodded. “You asked me about Lucy… don't you?”

At that moment, it registered.

Lucy.

His stomach clenched, like his it was empty. His lips pressed together and for the briefest second, something flickered in his eyes—something he didn't want Aiden to see. Something he had been keeping all the whole while. One of the things that made him resent Aiden.

He straightened, stiffening his posture like one who had no emotions. “ It's hers, right?” he said flatly and loudly, as if saying it aloud would lessen the weight of it.

Aiden wiped his fingers absently against the fabric of his slack. His smile didn't quite reach his eyes anymore. “You tell me.”

Leo's fists clenched at his sides. His mind was already racing, piecing things together. Lucy had been here. She had been hurt. She had bled. And Aiden had found this before he did.

That realization sent a slow, shimmering anger through him.

His eyes snapped back to Aiden. “Did you see anything?”

Aiden didn't answer right away. He was watching Leo, noticing how he struggled to hide the care, the little flicker in his eyes. He knew how much Leo felt for Lucy, he had always studied him, his reactions when it came to things that involved Lucy.

After a pause, he responded to Leo's question, “See anything? I was trying to find that out when you interrupted me. And I don't like when someone interrupts me.”

Leo narrowed his eyes. His patience was thin and became more worn by the unease in his chest. “Okay. But…, you're really here because of Lucy.”

Aiden replayed Leo's words in his mind.

So, you're here because of Lucy.

It sounded more like a statement and not a question. It held some weight, carried meaning beneath the surface. Leo had already made his assumptions and it wasn't the first time. He had always noticed him whenever it came to situations that involved Lucy. He seemed to have drawn his conclusions.

Aiden let the words settle inside him, rolling them over, testing how they felt. Yes, he had followed the scent—her scent. Ever since he had left her because of his lack of control, he had been concerned and even more concerned when he found the blood. And yes—he knew exactly what Leo wanted. He knew he was also after Lucy. He knew about his concerns for Lucy. But what got him angry was the fact that he was scared to show it and would rather beat around the bush and question anyone who seemed to be interested in her when he himself had no courage to go after her. It was like he was keeping her and didn't want anyone to touch her…

Leo wanted Lucy.

Aiden's jaw tightened. He didn't need to ask. He didn't need confirmation. It was written all over Leo's face, in the way his body tensed whenever her name came up, in the way his eyes flickered with something else—concern and fear when he realized the blood was hers.

But what had Leo done about it?

Nothing.

Aiden's expression darkened as he turned his head to one side and then straightened it, looking straight at Leo. He stepped in, closing the distance between them. His movements were slow but deliberate. Leo didn't move, but Aiden could feel the shift in his energy.

He stopped when their noses were almost brushing. The silence was tense and the only sound between them was the distant rustling of the wind through the trees.

At that moment, Aiden lifted a finger and pressed it against Leo's chest, right over his heart. His voice was calm and quiet but with no doubt, sharp.

“Why do you hide it?”

Lucy ran with every strength she'd got, crashing through the bushes and tall grasses of the forest, stumping on dried leaves and branches so that they made some creaking sounds. She peeked behind her, constantly as she made an effort to lose the guards that ran after her. She gasped and breathed heavily, holding on to the wish to outrun them. It was either to stop and be captured or run and stay alive. She could hear the sound of their footsteps which became more audible as she ran. The sound of their growls was scary enough to make her quiver and made her have thoughts of what might happen if she was to be caught She merely escaped from the Moonshine pack where she had to labor as a handmaid in the Royal residence of Alpha Eric and Luna Ava. Lucy opened her eyes which were still blurry. She shook her head swiftly as she endeavored to notice all that surrounded her. Being oblivious to her surroundings, it took her a while before she detected the iron door that was fixed to the wall, keeping her from breaking out, and the dried leaves that were strewn all over the ground. She was struck with fear when a rat squeaked by, climbing over her back. She moved with great rapidity and with a sudden sharp scream. Her legs dangled, scattering the leaves as she crawled hurriedly and leaned her back against the wall. She gasped for breath as it took a toll on her. "Hey, Katherine... You're here," She whispered, her heart racing faster than usual, and maneuvered hastily to where Katherine was. She was unconscious, she tilted her head swiftly so she opened her eyes but it was all in vain. Her head bleeds and there were spots on her face, so obvious that anyone could tell she received an intensified beating. Katherine was the one who as

Lucy walked under the fiery sun, sweating profusely as she made her way to the room where she was kept with Katherine. She hurried away without stopping not until she bumped into Isabella who was already standing in her way. She shrugged and immediately bowed her head. "Where are you off to in such a hurry," Isabella smirked and dared to reach out for her jaw, lifting her head slightly upward so she would make eye contact with her. Lucy struggled as she didn't want that but received a resounding slap that weakened her, causing her eyes to become fuzzy. "You look at me when I'm talking to you," Isabella vocalized with a sharp tone. Lucy slowly raised her head high up and stared at Isabella, solemnly with a straight face. She was angered, every instinct of her body telling her to fight back but she decided to keep her calm. Her eyes caught Marie who stood behind Isabella. Marie fixed her eyes on her for a moment but then, Lucy was smart enough to read the look on her face as it gav

"How could I perceive this scent, how is this possible," Lucy said in a low tone with her lips partly apart. "I don't even have my wolf yet," She pondered as she trod along the path which the scent she perceived had taken her to. She watched back and forth to see if anyone was following her trail as she could not be found roaming about in such a restricted area. The scent became stronger and soon sensed it must be Leo. She was brought to a stop when she got to a balcony that looked like an abandoned site. She sighted no one but yet, it was the place the scent stopped. She proceeded stealthily without her foot, making a slight sound. "Leo,' She uttered with a soft voice when she sighted him, standing only a few strides away from her. He looked fit in his black jacket and black jeans as he seemed to stand in a stance. "Lucy, you are here, how come," Leo said as he turned around to notice her. Lucy didn't get what he meant by his words, rather, she rushed at him and embraced him firml

Lucy walked sluggishly along the path that led to the meadow where she was stationed. Uncontrollable tears rolled down her cheek as she could not fathom what happened between him and Leo but yet, strived to put on a smile on her face when a few guards passed by. Thought of Leo rejecting her pestered her mind, having a nostalgic recollection of the plans she made after figuring out he was her mate. "I'm lost, why did he do it… Like he was scared of his Father," She whispered, silently and rubbed the tears on her face. She bowed her head and strolled away hurriedly when a guard approached her. "Father, I don't know what to do… I'm never getting out of here," She shut her eyes and gulped. Her heart raced, chest lingering upward and downward, so apparent that anyone could notice her restlessness. She was oblivious to her surroundings and didn't see Isabella already standing in her way. The sun lurked around the clouds as it dimmed its light and was about to settle down. Marie grunted and raised her head slightly to notice Lucy whose back was also bent, with a spade in her hand, packing horse dung into a bucket and disposing of them in another spot a long distance away from where they were. They'd been there for hours as the guard who ordered them to follow him decided to punish them both for disobeying his command. Marie had been taking a brief look at Lucy but she wasn't looking her way and didn't notice her. Marie had been waiting for an opportunity to speak with Lucy but couldn't find the right time as Lucy was busy all through without even making a sound. Marie stood upright and yawned her back behind her back, stretching herself. She whimpered as she felt a slight pain right in her lower back. She stared at Lucy who wouldn't even raise her head and take a break from working endlessly for hours. She took a few steps towards Lucy but discontinued when she sig

Lucy rubbed her eyes aggressively with the back of her hands and soon opened them wide. She pressed her gaze on Marie at first but soon took a few steps forward to get closer to her. Marie immediately backed away and stretched her hand at her so she would stop walking. "What was that," Marie questioned, her chest lingering. "I don't know… you could see that I was rubbing my eyes a few seconds ago," She said with a high-pitched sound, flipping her hands in the air. "How is it, is it gone?" She asked with curiosity. "Yeah, it's gone," She responded after replying with a grunt. Lucy bowed her head and fell to her knees. She raised her hands slowly and widened them both, directing them to her face. She started for a while and soon scratched her hair. "What's happening to me, I felt a surge of energy running through my veins a while ago," She whispered, her lips partly apart. Isabella just stood there. She was motionless, her hand resting on the door handle. The second knock at the door had sent a chill down her, causing her earlier confidence to slip away like sand through her fingers. She glanced over her shoulder, her mind racing. Could it be them? Or worse… someone else? Her heart pounded as she slowly turned the handle. The door creaked as it opened just enough for her to peek through. The sight of Leo standing there with his mouth shut like he had suspected something and his face unreadable and expressionless made her blood run cold, sending shivers down her spine and making her fidgeting. She tightened her grip, firm on the door to an extent that her knuckles almost turned white.“Leo?” she managed to say but her voice didn't falter, knowing she had to keep her calm.He didn't answer. There was silence in the air. It hung for a while as the name which Lucy uttered replayed in her mind. Isabella. Marie knew she could be right as Isabella was the only one who would do such a thing. She also knew that Leo, despite his attitude toward Lucy, would somehow protect her if it came to that as she had seen something like that before.“Isabella… that wicked witch.” She squeezed her face, her hand swung in the air like she was imagining Isabella right in front of her and she, doing the needful. Marie kept and just fixed her eyes on something she could not even say. Something invisible not until Marie broke the silence.“But Lucy… how did you do it? You said there were five of them. How did you fight them off? You're not even… I mean, you don't have your wolf yet.”A smile curled at the end of Lucy's lips. “ I don't know… I can't even explain what happened,” Lucy admitted, her voice shaking. She brought her other hand down and held her laps firmly. “Something happened to me. S

Lucy moved through the dimly lit path. The only light was the moonlight. But her senses were sharper than ever. Every shift in the wind, every faint footsteps of the patrolling guards reached her before they themselves came close. She had stayed hidden, her back pressed to cold walls, avoiding the guards, her breaths shallow but controlled. It felt strange, like she had tapped into something she couldn't quite fully understand. If only claws had sprouted out from her fingers and maybe some fur of hairs sprang out of her skin, she could have understood that it was her wolf and that she had finally gotten it. But it was only her senses that became heightened and she had the strength of three women. How was that possible? She had never felt that way before and had not experienced it.Her vision cut through the darkness, catching even the smallest flicker of movement. The metallic taste of blood lingered on her tongue, her wounds throbbing with every step. She pressed her hand to her shou

A rush of heat surged through her veins, burning like liquid fire. Like a current that surged through a copper wire. She jiggled, her muscles pulsating. In no time, she trembled as an unfamiliar power roared to life within her. It wasn't pain—it was something else. Something untamed and terrifying. Something she could not believe nor quite understand. Her eyes snapped open, and at that instant… Everything felt sharper as she could hear distant sounds of the fireflies. Her eyes looked clearly as she could see well through the darkness. The scent of the omegas, the sound of their breaths, even the faint rustle of leaves—it all hit her senses at once. The omega in front of her hesitated, his claws pausing midair. “What the—”Lucy let out a guttural growl, cutting the omega off in front of her. The sound was low but primal and it didn't sound like it belonged to her. It wasn't her voice but something deep within her. Her captor, the one behind her back, loosened his grip just enough for

Lucy kept her steps slow, her heels barely lifting off the ground as she wandered through the pack grounds. The familiar pathways glistened under the faint moonlight. The night air carried a cool, quiet stillness as they brushed against her skin.It would have been better if she had felt the cool stillness of the breeze while she cuddled with Aiden. Not when she was left alone by herself to wander around. She could have taken the shorter route back to her room, but the thought of facing Marie's inevitable questions which would arise because of her attitude made that decision for her.She sighed, her mind flickering back to Aiden—his touch, his voice, the way his eyes seemed to burn right through her. What else does he really think of me? Could he have made the excuse because of me? Does he see me as weak… or something more? The questions circled her mind, each one weighing her down more than the lastIn no time, the soun
