Isabella just stood there. She was motionless, her hand resting on the door handle. The second knock at the door had sent a chill down her, causing her earlier confidence to slip away like sand through her fingers. She glanced over her shoulder, her mind racing. Could it be them? Or worse… someone else?
Her heart pounded as she slowly turned the handle. The door creaked as it opened just enough for her to peek through. The sight of Leo standing there with his mouth shut like he had suspected something and his face unreadable and expressionless made her blood run cold, sending shivers down her spine and making her fidgeting. She tightened her grip, firm on the door to an extent that her knuckles almost turned white.
“Leo?” she managed to say but her voice didn't falter, knowing she had to keep her calm.
He didn't answer. His sharp eyes swept over her before he decided to stop inside without an invitation. It was like he didn't need her consent to take any action. Isabella backed away from the door, taking her steps backwards as Leo pressed forward. He clocked shut the door behind him, the soft sound echoing louder in her ears than it should have.
Isabella shifted from her position instinctively as Leo moved past her. There was nothing on his face—it was expressionless. She could not tell what he was thinking about. To her, it doesn't seem like Leo as he had always worn this expression that she was able to read—as most times, she could tell if he was sad, or happy, or angry… But now, it doesn't seem like that which spiked up her fears.
She watched him as he searched the room for something unseen—something she didn't quite understand and even though he understood it—she wasn't ready to come into terms with it. There was silence in the room as Leo didn't utter a word and if Isabella raised a question, it would evaporate into the air without being answered. The silence between them was suffocating, and she couldn't stop herself from imagining the worst. Does he know? Did someone tell him? Could he have seen something that made him search her room? Or could the omegas have—
“Leo,” she called again, her voice firmer now, even though her heart was still racing. “Why are you here? And what are you looking for by this time of the night? It's late already and I should be sleeping by now but obviously, you stopped that from happening, huh?”
He finally stopped in his tracks, his back to her. For a moment, he didn't speak and he didn't move. And with that, with his actions—the weight of that silence pressed heavily on her chest. But in no time, he turned his head slightly, just enough for her to catch the sharp eyes of his jawline and the glint in his eyes.
“There might be an intruder,” he said, his tone calm and thick but it was laced with something she couldn't quite place. “Stay in your room and don't step out until I say it's safe.”
Her mouth opened to pretest but no words came out. She wanted to question him about what kind of intruder it was… she wanted to be sure if he had any slight hint on what had happened—the scene that had unfolded. But she stood frozen as he walked to the door.
“Wait,” she blurted out, her voice cracking. “What—what do you mean? Did something happen? I've been hearing the patrols of the guards… was there really an intruder?” she questioned, acting like she had no idea to leave no trace back to her.
Leo paused with his hand on the doorknob. He didn't turn back this time but his voice was low. “Just stay inside, Isabella… don't give me the stress of having to worry about you.”
And then he was gone, leaving her standing in the middle of the room. She watched as the door shut behind him, creating only a low sound.
She just stood there, frozen, her breath caught in her throat. The weight of Leo's words settled on her. It was heavy as it came unexpectedly.
Don't give me the stress of having to worry about you.
Her fingers curled into her palms, her nails digging into her skin. A flicker of something—hope? —rose in her. But it was smothered by doubt again just as quickly. Was he really worried about me? Or was it just something he said out of duty?
Her heart pounded against her ribs, betraying the calm expression she tried to keep. She wanted to believe there was something more behind his words, something deeper than his words—his actions. And that was the reason she had to take Lucy out of the picture.
She swallowed hard, watching the door as if she was expecting him to come back, to explain himself—what he meant by his words. But the hallway outside was silent. He was gone.
A bitter smile rigged at her lips. Worry about me? If only you knew what I've done, Leo… would you still say that?
She exploded sharply and turned away, pressing her hands against her face. His voice lingered in her head, repeating itself like a taunt.
For a moment, just a moment, she let herself believe that maybe—just maybe—he meant it.

Aiden moved through the darkened path. His eyes were sharp and scouting through the darkness. The air was thick with the lingering scent of blood and he could smell it from afar. With each step he studied the ground, searching for clues.
The night was still, but the earth told a different story. The footprints were scattered. It was a deep impression in some places, and dragged in others. He read the footprints as a sign of struggle. His eyes followed the patterns, tracing where she might have been.
Something had brought her to the scene where the fight had unfolded—Lucy’s scent. He inhaled deeply, letting the scents fill his senses. Her scent lingered. It was strong and intense. It was unmistakable. His chest tightened as he imagined her standing here, surrounded and outnumbered. Just the thought of it sent a sharp edge through him.
Then he saw it—the dark stain on the ground. It was barely visible under the moonlight but it wasn't a problem for him. His eyes, sharp and glinting as he could see clearly through the thick fog of the dark. His stomach twisted like a knot as he crouched down. A slight guess crossed his mind but he didn't come in terms with it, hoping it wasn't what he was thinking.
His fingers graze the damp earth—it was blood.
He rubbed it between his fingers, bringing it close to his nose. He sniffed for a second and at that moment, his throat tightened… it was hers.
A low growl built in his chest. She was injured as he didn't want to go with the other option—she might be dead already. But there was hope, as her body wasn't seen,... Maybe, hadn't been found, yet.
She must be injured, he thought. But how badly. He didn't know. He clarified himself and concluded, being optimistic, that she must have managed to walk away. He stood up and advanced forward, then his eyes caught the drops of blood on the ground. His eyes traced the path she had taken, following the trail of blood but there was no sign of her falling, no pools of blood to suggest she had collapsed.
Still, the weight on his chest, the thoughts of the unknown didn't ease. He should have been here. He should have protected her as he had always promised. He shouldn't have left her when she needed him the most. But he could not love in the past, the best he could do was to find her.
Just as he was about to follow her trail, something else hit him. A scene, faint but familiar.
His body went rigid and his back turned on the direction of the scent.
Leo.
His expression darkened as he turned his head, nostrils flaring. He had been here. Recently.
Aiden just bent there on the spot. He didn't turn around. He didn't need to. He had already sensed Leo the moment he arrived, his scent, his presence thick in the air like a storm rolling in. Even the sound of his boots pressing into the dirt was slow. If was measured, closing the distance between them and Aiden could notice that, as his ears captured even the faintest sound.Aiden stayed still, his fingers twitching slightly at his side. He sniffed again as the scent of blood still clung to the air and mixed with the cool night breeze. He didn't like being interrupted, especially not now that it was all about Lucy who could be in danger and needed help. Leo's voice soon cut through the silence. “What are you doing here?”Aiden smirked, tilting his head slightly but still not turning around. “I could ask you the same thing.”Leo stepped closer, his presence not too intimidating. “It's my pack,” he said, his tone laced with impatience. “I don't need a reason to be anywhere. Leo's gaze hardened but he didn't pull back. He didn't even flinch and just met Aiden's gaze. He didn't understand what Aiden meant by his question and was only trying to comprehend it. His lips pressed into a thin line as if waiting for Aiden to explain himself.Aiden exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “You want her. But you won't admit it. You won't act on it. You think standing here, acting like you don't care, makes you strong?” His voice dropped lower, a quiet challenge. “It makes you a coward.” Leo's jaw clenched. A muscle ticked at the side of his face.Aiden tilted his head, his eyes searching Leo's face for any sign or flicker of emotion. “You don't deserve to be Alpha.” he tapped Leo's chest with his finger and pushed him. But it was a slight push. His gaze was strong like he was expecting the worse from Leo, hoping he was going to react and fight him.Leo's nostrils flared. “Watch your mouth.”Aiden chuckled, but there was no humor in it. “Or what? You'll finally do someth
Lucy ran with every strength she'd got, crashing through the bushes and tall grasses of the forest, stumping on dried leaves and branches so that they made some creaking sounds. She peeked behind her, constantly as she made an effort to lose the guards that ran after her. She gasped and breathed heavily, holding on to the wish to outrun them. It was either to stop and be captured or run and stay alive. She could hear the sound of their footsteps which became more audible as she ran. The sound of their growls was scary enough to make her quiver and made her have thoughts of what might happen if she was to be caught She merely escaped from the Moonshine pack where she had to labor as a handmaid in the Royal residence of Alpha Eric and Luna Ava. Though she didn't work directly for them but for their daughter, Isabella. Though Isabella was not the biological daughter of Alpha Eric. Lucy opened her eyes which were still blurry. She shook her head swiftly as she endeavored to notice all that surrounded her. Being oblivious to her surroundings, it took her a while before she detected the iron door that was fixed to the wall, keeping her from breaking out, and the dried leaves that were strewn all over the ground. She was struck with fear when a rat squeaked by, climbing over her back. She moved with great rapidity and with a sudden sharp scream. Her legs dangled, scattering the leaves as she crawled hurriedly and leaned her back against the wall. She gasped for breath as it took a toll on her. "Hey, Katherine... You're here," She whispered, her heart racing faster than usual, and maneuvered hastily to where Katherine was. She was unconscious, she tilted her head swiftly so she opened her eyes but it was all in vain. Her head bleeds and there were spots on her face, so obvious that anyone could tell she received an intensified beating. Katherine was the one who as
Lucy walked under the fiery sun, sweating profusely as she made her way to the room where she was kept with Katherine. She hurried away without stopping not until she bumped into Isabella who was already standing in her way. She shrugged and immediately bowed her head. "Where are you off to in such a hurry," Isabella smirked and dared to reach out for her jaw, lifting her head slightly upward so she would make eye contact with her. Lucy struggled as she didn't want that but received a resounding slap that weakened her, causing her eyes to become fuzzy. "You look at me when I'm talking to you," Isabella vocalized with a sharp tone. Lucy slowly raised her head high up and stared at Isabella, solemnly with a straight face. She was angered, every instinct of her body telling her to fight back but she decided to keep her calm. Her eyes caught Marie who stood behind Isabella. Marie fixed her eyes on her for a moment but then, Lucy was smart enough to read the look on her face as it gav
"How could I perceive this scent, how is this possible," Lucy said in a low tone with her lips partly apart. "I don't even have my wolf yet," She pondered as she trod along the path which the scent she perceived had taken her to. She watched back and forth to see if anyone was following her trail as she could not be found roaming about in such a restricted area. The scent became stronger and soon sensed it must be Leo. She was brought to a stop when she got to a balcony that looked like an abandoned site. She sighted no one but yet, it was the place the scent stopped. She proceeded stealthily without her foot, making a slight sound. "Leo,' She uttered with a soft voice when she sighted him, standing only a few strides away from her. He looked fit in his black jacket and black jeans as he seemed to stand in a stance. "Lucy, you are here, how come," Leo said as he turned around to notice her. Lucy didn't get what he meant by his words, rather, she rushed at him and embraced him firml
Lucy walked sluggishly along the path that led to the meadow where she was stationed. Uncontrollable tears rolled down her cheek as she could not fathom what happened between him and Leo but yet, strived to put on a smile on her face when a few guards passed by. Thought of Leo rejecting her pestered her mind, having a nostalgic recollection of the plans she made after figuring out he was her mate. "I'm lost, why did he do it… Like he was scared of his Father," She whispered, silently and rubbed the tears on her face. She bowed her head and strolled away hurriedly when a guard approached her. "Father, I don't know what to do… I'm never getting out of here," She shut her eyes and gulped. Her heart raced, chest lingering upward and downward, so apparent that anyone could notice her restlessness. She was oblivious to her surroundings and didn't see Isabella already standing in her way. She walked into her and at that instant, apologized for not being watchful. She was about to take
The sun lurked around the clouds as it dimmed its light and was about to settle down. Marie grunted and raised her head slightly to notice Lucy whose back was also bent, with a spade in her hand, packing horse dung into a bucket and disposing of them in another spot a long distance away from where they were. They'd been there for hours as the guard who ordered them to follow him decided to punish them both for disobeying his command. Marie had been taking a brief look at Lucy but she wasn't looking her way and didn't notice her. Marie had been waiting for an opportunity to speak with Lucy but couldn't find the right time as Lucy was busy all through without even making a sound. Marie stood upright and yawned her back behind her back, stretching herself. She whimpered as she felt a slight pain right in her lower back. She stared at Lucy who wouldn't even raise her head and take a break from working endlessly for hours. She took a few steps towards Lucy but discontinued when she sig

There was silence in the air. It hung for a while as the name which Lucy uttered replayed in her mind. Isabella. Marie knew she could be right as Isabella was the only one who would do such a thing. She also knew that Leo, despite his attitude toward Lucy, would somehow protect her if it came to that as she had seen something like that before.“Isabella… that wicked witch.” She squeezed her face, her hand swung in the air like she was imagining Isabella right in front of her and she, doing the needful. Marie kept and just fixed her eyes on something she could not even say. Something invisible not until Marie broke the silence.“But Lucy… how did you do it? You said there were five of them. How did you fight them off? You're not even… I mean, you don't have your wolf yet.”A smile curled at the end of Lucy's lips. “ I don't know… I can't even explain what happened,” Lucy admitted, her voice shaking. She brought her other hand down and held her laps firmly. “Something happened to me. S
Lucy moved through the dimly lit path. The only light was the moonlight. But her senses were sharper than ever. Every shift in the wind, every faint footsteps of the patrolling guards reached her before they themselves came close. She had stayed hidden, her back pressed to cold walls, avoiding the guards, her breaths shallow but controlled. It felt strange, like she had tapped into something she couldn't quite fully understand. If only claws had sprouted out from her fingers and maybe some fur of hairs sprang out of her skin, she could have understood that it was her wolf and that she had finally gotten it. But it was only her senses that became heightened and she had the strength of three women. How was that possible? She had never felt that way before and had not experienced it.Her vision cut through the darkness, catching even the smallest flicker of movement. The metallic taste of blood lingered on her tongue, her wounds throbbing with every step. She pressed her hand to her shou
A rush of heat surged through her veins, burning like liquid fire. Like a current that surged through a copper wire. She jiggled, her muscles pulsating. In no time, she trembled as an unfamiliar power roared to life within her. It wasn't pain—it was something else. Something untamed and terrifying. Something she could not believe nor quite understand. Her eyes snapped open, and at that instant… Everything felt sharper as she could hear distant sounds of the fireflies. Her eyes looked clearly as she could see well through the darkness. The scent of the omegas, the sound of their breaths, even the faint rustle of leaves—it all hit her senses at once. The omega in front of her hesitated, his claws pausing midair. “What the—”Lucy let out a guttural growl, cutting the omega off in front of her. The sound was low but primal and it didn't sound like it belonged to her. It wasn't her voice but something deep within her. Her captor, the one behind her back, loosened his grip just enough for
Lucy kept her steps slow, her heels barely lifting off the ground as she wandered through the pack grounds. The familiar pathways glistened under the faint moonlight. The path was dark at first but became clearer as she got closer. The night air carried a cool, quiet stillness as they brushed against her skin.It would have been better if she had felt the cool stillness of the breeze while she cuddled with Aiden. Not when she was left alone by herself to wander around. She could have taken the shorter route back to her room, but the thought of facing Marie's inevitable questions which would arise because of her attitude made that decision for her.She sighed, her mind flickering back to Aiden—his touch, his voice, the way his eyes seemed to burn right through her. What else does he really think of me? Could he have made the excuse because of me? Does he see me as weak… or something more? The questions circled her mind, each one weighing her down more than the lastIn no time, the soun
Aiden's hands rested firmly on Lucy's shoulders, his touch steady yet electrifying. His gaze bore into hers, deep and searching as though he could uncover every secret she kept hidden just by looking. Lucy felt the heat of his closeness, the tension cracking between them like a storm waiting to break. Her breath rasped as his thumb grazed the corner of her lips, lingering there with a tenderness that sent shivers down her spine. His eyes softened, the golden flecks in them shimmering in the dim light and for a fleeting moment, she felt the only person in the world.“Lucy…” Aiden muttered, like a whisper. She didn't respond, her words caught somewhere between her chest and her throat. Instead, she held his gaze, her heart pounding so loudly she was sure he could hear it.And then he leaned in.It was slow at first, as if he was giving her the chance to pull away but Lucy didn't move. She couldn't. The moment his lips touched hers, the world seemed to tilt, everything else fading into i
Lucy stood frozen, her thoughts colliding like waves in a storm. How did he know? How much does he know? Aiden's words— “You don't have your wolf, do you?”---still hung in the air, heavy. She bit down her teeth, clenching her jaw tightened as she struggled to find a response. What could she even say? Admitting it felt like ripping herself open, exposing the raw, shameful truth of what she was. How would he see me if I told him? she thought. Would he look at me like everyone else does—like I'm broken? Or worse, would he pity me?Her fingers twisted together nervously and her gaze darted to the ground. The words clawed at her throat, desperate to be spoken but she couldn't quite bring herself to let them out. The silence stretched between them and the weight of it pressed against her chest.Aiden, however, remained calm. She could feel his eyes on her, steady and patient, like he was giving her space to come to terms with what he already knew. Slowly, he stepped closer and before she co
