Lucy and Marie worked in silence, their brooms scraping the dust-covered floor of the room meant for Aiden. The air was thick with the scent of neglect, cobwebs clinging to the corners like the room had been forgotten for years. They swept and scrubbed, the grime gradually giving way to a cleaner, fresher space. The old wooden floors began to gleam under their efforts, and the room slowly transformed from a forgotten corner of the pack house into something worthy of the Lycan Prince.

Lucy sighed, a loud whisper that echoed in the room. Marie nodded her head. “We're almost done,” she said with a rasped breath. Lucy smiled agreeing with Marie.

“I really need a good night's sleep after this, not awaiting Aiden's arrival.” Lucy yawned, trying to cover her mouth with the back of her hand.

Marie rushed to her in an attempt to shut her up. Lucy discontinued from yawning, her hand hung in the air as she furrowed her eyebrows trying to catch a glimpse of Marie's action.

“Marie, are you okay?”

“Of course, and why not… You should know that Aiden's name is far beyond our mouth. No one must hear you speak his name that way.”

Lucy mused at first but bursted into laughter. She paused for a moment, took a glance at Marie and laughed a second time. “You don't mean to say that, Marie.” She clicked her tongue.

“Come on, Lucy, I'm serious. What if the Alpha passes by or some Leo's guards… they reference the name a lot… you'll be punished.”

“I see… let's get over with this work already.” Lucy muttered. The name Leo struck her mind like a thundering bolt. She hated to hear that name as to what the name had brought her- pain, sorrow, fear of losing what she thought was hers. And all she could feel now was anger and resentment towards the name.

Lucy soon sat on the cold floor, her back leaning against the wall as she stared blankly ahead. The room, now clean and orderly, was entirely different from the emotions swirling inside her. Her thoughts kept circling back to Leo, replaying the scene over and over in her mind. She couldn't shake the feeling of disappointment that Leo's name brought.

She knew Leo had helped her–he was the one who had ordered Ethan to call Katherine when she needed it the most. But the way he had acted when he saw her, as if she didn't even exist, it made her question everything. How could he claim to care, to have had a hand in saving her, and then stand there with that cold indifference? It didn't make sense. At least some explanation would have suffice.

``He’s not my mate,`` she thought bitterly, the words echoing in her mind. ``He can't be. How could he be, when he acts like this?``

But then the doubt crept in. Could it be because of Isabella? Was she somehow controlling him, Influencing the way he thought and felt? Lucy had seen the way Isabella looked at Leo, the way she moved around him, always seeking attention. But would Leo really let her control him like that? Would he let Isabella dictate how he treated her?

``It can't be because of Isabella,`` Lucy whispered to herself, trying to convince her what. But uncertainty gnawed at her. If it wasn't Isabella, then what was it? Why did Leo seem so distant if he still cares about her to an extent that he saved her? And why did it hurt so much?

She buried her face in her hands, trying to push away the overwhelming tide of emotions. She didn't have time for this–not now. Not when everything was at stake. She had to find her mate, the one person who could truly help her, who could unlock her wolf and save her from this curse. Time was running out, and every second wasted brought her closer to a fate she couldn't even fully comprehend.

But how could she find her mate? All odds were clearly against Leo, he couldn't have been the one. Her thoughts spiraled deeper, making her feel like she was sinking into a dark abyss. The idea that Leo wasn't her mate, that he could never be, both relieved and terrified her. What if her real mate was out there, somewhere in the pack, waiting for her? What if she never found him in time?

Lost in these thoughts, she didn't even notice when Marie approached her. Marie had noticed how she threw her broom to the ground and sat all by herself. She had waited for some moment whether she would come around but it turned out that she was wrong and had decided to comfort her.

The touch on Lucy's shoulder startled her, jolting her out of her reverie. Lucy gasped, her head snapping up to look at Marie, who was watching her with concern.

“Lucy,” Marie said softly, her voice filled with gentle care. “You're shaking. Are you okay?”

Lucy blinked, trying to pull herself back to the present. She hadn't even realized how deeply her thoughts had consumed her. Her hands trembled slightly as she clasped them together, trying to steady herself.

“I'm .. I'm fine,” she replied, though her voice lacked conviction. She could see doubt in Marie's eyes, but she didn't know how to explain what she was feeling. “I just… I can't stop thinking about everything. About what's going to happen to me.”

Marie, who already had a guess of what was going through Lucy's mind, knelt beside her, her gaze steady and warm. “You don't have to go through this alone, Lucy. We're in this together.” She paused and directed her eyes to something only she knew before she eventually continued.

“I know you don't trust me that much because of what I put you through but that I owe you, Lucy… We'll figure it out, okay?”

Lucy forces a smile at Marie's words and nodded, though the weight on her cheT didn't lift. “I understand but what if I never find him, Marie? What if I'm running out of time? Leo is clearly not my mate and I guess I've been wrong the whole time.” She bite one side of her lips.

“How can you be so sure about that… we can't conclude about that for now.”

“Yes, I can… I can feel it… he's not the one and my mate is out there… And all my thoughts now are what if I never find him in time.”

Marie sighed, sitting back on her heels. “I wish I had the answer, Lucy. But I do know this–you’re stronger than you think.”

Lucy raised a brow and laughed off her words.

“I'm serious, Lucy… remember how you confronted the guard, you helped me that day… you were not scared. More reason I admire you, your courage in the presence of fear.”

Lucy could only stare at her as she gulped.

“So, whether Leo is your mate or not, you'll find strength to get through this. And when the time comes, you'll find your true mate. We just have to keep going, one step at a time.”

Lucy looked at Marie, gratitude welling up inside her. She didn't know what to say but her words were like a calming balm rubbed around her heart. “Thank you, Marie.”

Marie smiled, a flicker of warmth in the cold, uncertain world they found themselves in. “Remember, we're in this together?… you have me and you have Katherine.”

“Yeah, so now, we just have to deal with Aiden.”

“Yes, Aiden we have to deal with.” Marie immediately responded, her voice barely above a whisper. “Lucy, you can't just mention his name like that.” She added, as she looked around the room.

“No one's here… why are you scared?” Lucy questioned

But just as Marie was about to respond, the door burst open with a loud bang, startling both of them.

Her eyes swept across the room, taking in the sight of their work. She nodded her head and clapped her hands slowly, a satisfied smirk played on her lips as she observed the clean and well swept room. “Well, well, well,” she drawled, her tone laced with a hint of mockery. “It seems you two have actually done something right for once.”Lucy and Marie exchanged a quick glance, both unsure of how to respond. They stood silently, waiting for whatever command Isabella would issue next. The tension in the room was palpable and Marie could feel her heart pounding in her chest. Marie brushed her shoulder against Lucy's. Lucy glanced at her as she noticed the gesture on Marie's face, a sign that tells her to bow her head. Lucy nodded but d

Lucy's feet came to an abrupt stop. There he was–Leo. He was walking down the hallway, dressed in a fitted black jacket and jeans towards Lucy. Lucy mused, and could only stare while Marie followed the direction of Lucy's eyes to see what had stopped her from moving. Lucy watched as Leo walked, his presence which seemed to command attention without effort as everyone bowed as he walked past them. His stride was confident, each step deliberate, exuding the natural authority he carried as the Alpha's son. The fitted black jacket he wore clung to his muscular frame, the fabric emphasizing the sharp lines of his broad shoulders and chest. The deep black color contrasted against his skin, highlighting his powerful build. His jeans fit him perfectly, completing the look that radiated a minor casual dominance and raw masculinity. His hair, dark and slightly tousled, fell effortlessly across his forehead, giving him an air of careless perfection. Leo stood at the front of the main gate, his posture straight and commanding, as though he were a living statue carved from the stone of authority itself. His hands were clasped firmly behind his back, his eyes fixed on the approaching figure. Beside him was Ethan, who stood with an equally serious demeanor, his sharp eyes scanning the scene with a mixture of scrutiny and concern.Behind them also, a contingent of guards maintained their positions, their expressions betraying nothing but readiness. The air was tense with anticipation, each member of the pack aware of the significance of the visitor about to arrive.Isabella soon emerged from behind them, her presence purposeful. She stood at first on a spot but soon maneuvered to Leo side, her gaze immediately drawn to the distant figure on the horizon. As she took her place next to him, the space between them felt charged with unspoken emotions. Her heart fluttered nervously, a blend of excitement swirling within her. Her affection

Marie felt her breath hitch as her eyes landed on Aiden, her usual composure faltering. She had heard of Aiden's cruelty but seeing him in person was an entirely different experience. All she could notice was his striking presence. But it was his eyes that held Marie captive–icy blue and piercing, like the ocean under a winter sky. They were simultaneously cold and alluring, pulling her in despite the danger they seemed to promise.Marie turned to compose herself, reminding herself that she was here to serve Isabella, not to get lost in the presence of a man who was far beyond her reach. But even as she attempted to focus, her gaze kept drifting back to Aiden. He stood tall, exuding an effortless command that made everyone around him feel small. Marie had never seen anyone so perfectly put together, though she had always admired Leo but Aiden was entirely different. He was so naturally authoritative and she found herself caught between admiration and an unspoken yearning that she kn

Ethan wagged his head slowly hoping that Leo would notice him with the side view of his eyes in an attempt to caution him not to flair up. But neither Leo nor Aiden moved an inch, not any part of their bodies.Isabella also silently wished that no fight would start between the both of them. Aiden, whose eyes were locked with Leo soon curled his lips into a faint smile, a gesture that was less friendly and more taunting as if to say. “I see you.”Leo's blood boiled at the sight of that smile. It was the same smile that had haunted him ever since that fateful day–the day of their fight, the day everything changed. The memory flashed in Leo's mind like lightning: the heated words, the exchange of blows, the sting of betrayal that stoll burned as fresh as the moment it happened. Aiden's voice soon broke the silence, cutting through Leo's like a knife.“Leo.” Aiden's voice was calm, almost casual, but there was an edge to it, a sharpness that Leo could not ignore.Leo’s throat tightened a

Marie, whose mind was still caught in the chilling grip of what had just transpired, could feel her heart pounded relentlessly in her chest, each beat echoing with a mixture of fear and embarrassment. The image of Aiden's piercing blue eyes lingered, seared into her memory and no matter how much she tried, she couldn't shake the feeling of being completely exposed under his gaze.Marie finally took a seat in the room, resting her hands on her knees as she caught her breath. She glanced at Lucy, who was still visibly shaken, her face pale and her eyes distant. Marie's own nerves were frayed, and she desperately needed to make sense of what had happened. “Lucy…what just happened back there?” Marie asked, her voice unsteady. “I—I froze. It's like… I don't even remember what I was supposed to say. Did I do something wrong?”Lucy, too, was struggling to regain her composure. The grand hall was filled with the low hum of murmurs and the gentle clinking of silverware as everyone settled around the round table. The room was dimly lit by the warm glow of chandeliers, casting flickering shadows against the stone walls. At the distinguished table in the center sat Alpha Eric, with his commanding presence, exuding an aura of authority that was impossible to ignore. Beside him but distant away by the right, Aiden sat with his usual composed manner, his piercing blue eyes surveying the hall with a cold, calculating gaze. Leo sat on the other side of his father, on the left, tense but outwardly calm, his posture rigid as if bracing himself for what the evening might bring. Next to Leo was Ethan, who had been granted the rare privilege of sitting at the Alpha's table, a proof of his loyalty and status as Leo's most trusted guard.Isabella, sat across from Leo and Ethan as she was beside Aiden, her eyes darting anxiously around the hall. The air in the grand hall grew tense as Aiden swiftly rose from his seat, his movements deliberate and hurried, drawing eye to him. He looked down at the dark red stain that marred his perfectly tailored black slacks. His expression remained inscrutable, a mask of calm that concealed whatever thoughts were brewing behind those piercing blue eyes. Aiden's silence was more fearsome than any outburst could have been, and his gaze remained fixed on Lucy, who stood trembling inside before him.Alpha Eric, seated at the head of the round table and conversing with a guard, soon noticed Aiden’s sudden movement and the way eyes seemed to be drawn toward him. He looked from Aiden to Lucy, seeing that Lucy was standing before him with her head bowed, his brow furrowing in confusion.“What's going on here?” Eric asked, his voice cutting through the silence. He scanned the faces around the table, seeking an answer, but none was forthcoming. Isabella, seeing what had happened, stiffened, her eyes

“They had me,” she started, her voice low as she stepped in closer to Aiden. “There were five of them. Omegas. I could tell by the way they carried themselves. They were ready to kill me, to cut me off without flinching.”Aiden's jaw tensed, but he remained silent, letting her continue.Lucy glanced at her wounded arm, the gash now a dull ache compared to the adrenaline that had surged through her veins earlier. “I tried to move. To get out of their circle. But one of them rushed at me.”Her breath hitched as she recalled the moment—how she had barely dodged, how another had grabbed her from behind before she could react.“He held me down and then…” she exhaled sharply, shaking her head. “One of them was going to strike. I saw his claws. I almost felt death lurking when he aimed for my throat.”Aiden took a slow step forward, his brows drawing together. “But he didn't.” It wasn't a question.Lucy nodded. “No. Because I… I growled.”The word felt foreign on her tongue. Aiden stood close to the window, peeping through the small open space. He retracted his head as he heard the approaching footsteps outside. The guards had been going and coming, looking for the unknown. Their voices were low but firm, exchanging words as they passed through the area.“Lucy!” he whispered.Lucy's grip on his wrist tightened. It was like she already knew what he wanted to say—what he wanted to convey to her.“Stay,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.Aiden exhaled through his nose as light mist could be seen coming out. He glanced toward the door. He didn't like this. He had already risked enough by coming here. Yes, he might be a Prince—not just a prince but a Lycan Prince… it didn't exempt him from abiding by the rules also. He didn't want to get in the way of Alpha Eric since everyone was to stay indoors whenever there was an intruder and the only people to be seen were the guards. Even the Alpha and his son, Leo, were meant to stay indoors. He can't be seen li

Leo's gaze hardened but he didn't pull back. He didn't even flinch and just met Aiden's gaze. He didn't understand what Aiden meant by his question and was only trying to comprehend it. His lips pressed into a thin line as if waiting for Aiden to explain himself.Aiden exhaled sharply, shaking his head. “You want her. But you won't admit it. You won't act on it. You think standing here, acting like you don't care, makes you strong?” His voice dropped lower, a quiet challenge. “It makes you a coward.” Leo's jaw clenched. A muscle ticked at the side of his face.Aiden tilted his head, his eyes searching Leo's face for any sign or flicker of emotion. “You don't deserve to be Alpha.” he tapped Leo's chest with his finger and pushed him. But it was a slight push. His gaze was strong like he was expecting the worse from Leo, hoping he was going to react and fight him.Leo's nostrils flared. “Watch your mouth.”Aiden chuckled, but there was no humor in it. “Or what? Aiden just bent there on the spot. He didn't turn around. He didn't need to. He had already sensed Leo the moment he arrived, his scent, his presence thick in the air like a storm rolling in. If was measured, closing the distance between them and Aiden could notice that, as his ears captured even the faintest sound.Aiden stayed still, his fingers twitching slightly at his side. He sniffed again as the scent of blood still clung to the air and mixed with the cool night breeze. He didn't like being interrupted, especially not now that it was all about Lucy who could be in danger and needed help. Leo's voice soon cut through the silence. “What are you doing here?”Aiden smirked, tilting his head slightly but still not turning around. “I could ask you the same thing.”Leo stepped closer, his presence not too intimidating. “It's my pack,” he said, his tone laced with impatience. “I don't need a reason to be anywhere. Isabella just stood there. She was motionless, her hand resting on the door handle. The second knock at the door had sent a chill down her, causing her earlier confidence to slip away like sand through her fingers. She glanced over her shoulder, her mind racing. Could it be them? Or worse… someone else? Her heart pounded as she slowly turned the handle. The door creaked as it opened just enough for her to peek through. The sight of Leo standing there with his mouth shut like he had suspected something and his face unreadable and expressionless made her blood run cold, sending shivers down her spine and making her fidgeting. She tightened her grip, firm on the door to an extent that her knuckles almost turned white.“Leo?” she managed to say but her voice didn't falter, knowing she had to keep her calm.He didn't answer. There was silence in the air. It hung for a while as the name which Lucy uttered replayed in her mind. Isabella. Marie knew she could be right as Isabella was the only one who would do such a thing. She also knew that Leo, despite his attitude toward Lucy, would somehow protect her if it came to that as she had seen something like that before.“Isabella… that wicked witch.” She squeezed her face, her hand swung in the air like she was imagining Isabella right in front of her and she, doing the needful. Marie kept and just fixed her eyes on something she could not even say. Something invisible not until Marie broke the silence.“But Lucy… how did you do it? You said there were five of them. How did you fight them off? You're not even… I mean, you don't have your wolf yet.”A smile curled at the end of Lucy's lips. “ I don't know… I can't even explain what happened,” Lucy admitted, her voice shaking. She brought her other hand down and held her laps firmly. “Something happened to me. S

Lucy moved through the dimly lit path. The only light was the moonlight. But her senses were sharper than ever. Every shift in the wind, every faint footsteps of the patrolling guards reached her before they themselves came close. She had stayed hidden, her back pressed to cold walls, avoiding the guards, her breaths shallow but controlled. It felt strange, like she had tapped into something she couldn't quite fully understand. If only claws had sprouted out from her fingers and maybe some fur of hairs sprang out of her skin, she could have understood that it was her wolf and that she had finally gotten it. But it was only her senses that became heightened and she had the strength of three women. How was that possible? She had never felt that way before and had not experienced it.Her vision cut through the darkness, catching even the smallest flicker of movement. The metallic taste of blood lingered on her tongue, her wounds throbbing with every step. She pressed her hand to her shou

A rush of heat surged through her veins, burning like liquid fire. Like a current that surged through a copper wire. She jiggled, her muscles pulsating. In no time, she trembled as an unfamiliar power roared to life within her. It wasn't pain—it was something else. Something untamed and terrifying. Something she could not believe nor quite understand. Her eyes snapped open, and at that instant… Everything felt sharper as she could hear distant sounds of the fireflies. Her eyes looked clearly as she could see well through the darkness. The scent of the omegas, the sound of their breaths, even the faint rustle of leaves—it all hit her senses at once. The omega in front of her hesitated, his claws pausing midair. “What the—”Lucy let out a guttural growl, cutting the omega off in front of her. Lucy kept her steps slow, her heels barely lifting off the ground as she wandered through the pack grounds. The familiar pathways glistened under the faint moonlight. The night air carried a cool, quiet stillness as they brushed against her skin.It would have been better if she had felt the cool stillness of the breeze while she cuddled with Aiden. Not when she was left alone by herself to wander around. She could have taken the shorter route back to her room, but the thought of facing Marie's inevitable questions which would arise because of her attitude made that decision for her.She sighed, her mind flickering back to Aiden—his touch, his voice, the way his eyes seemed to burn right through her.
