Leo and Ethan met with the guard on the way. The guard immediately bowed his head while Leo watched him. There was silence that hung amongst them, inciting great tension. Leo narrowed his thoughts, knowing he had been missing and instead of him working on the errand his Father had sent him, he was busy doing something else and the guard allocated to him would be wondering what had happened and where he had been.
Leo sighed deeply but kept mute, knowing that the guard was already curious as to where he had been. The guard, still a bit uneasy from having lost sight of Leo earlier, broke the silence first.
"Leo, I searched everywhere for you, but you vanished. I was starting to worry," the guard said, his voice a mix of concern but relief, since he found him already.
Leo glanced at the guard with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood. "I needed some air. Can’t have you following me everywhere, can I?" Leo shrugged and took a brief look at Ethan so he would give away some expression to support his response. Ethan at that moment also wagged his head and gave off a laugh but the guard seemed off by their actions.
The guard hesitated before replying, "I almost reported to your father, but another guard intercepted me and informed me that Aiden is already nearby. He’s almost here." He paused and nodded. “More reason I had to find you before Aiden comes around.”
At the mention of Aiden, Leo’s expression tightened, he grinned and made a fist with his hand right beside him, but he quickly covered it with a smile. He reached out and gave the guard a friendly slap on the back. "Good call. Let’s focus on the task at hand, then."
Ethan observed the exchange silently, noting the shift in Leo’s demeanor. He knew Aiden’s impending arrival weighed heavily on Leo. Despite Leo's attempt at nonchalance, Ethan could sense the underlying frustration and unease. He himself felt conflicted. He had his own worries about Lucy, but now, with Aiden’s arrival, everything seemed even more complicated.
Leo glanced over his shoulder at Ethan, catching his gaze. "Come on, Ethan. Let’s get this over with. I need to change into that outfit my father insisted on. You’ll join me, won’t you?"
Ethan nodded, noticing that Leo had said that as he wanted to have a small talk with him but an important one and since the guard was there, he had found a way to communicate it with him in a more normal way. Ethan gave off a smile. "Of course, Leo."
They all turned and made their way to Leo’s quarters, the guard fell into step beside Leo. He seemed eager to make up for earlier and stayed close, ensuring Leo was within his line of sight and knowing that he had to report back to Alpha Eric, he wouldn't want to lose sight of him to avoid being punished himself. The silence between them was thick, but none of them spoke, each lost in their own thoughts.
Leo’s mind raced with a mix of anger and resignation. Aiden’s arrival was not something he looked forward to, especially considering their history. Yet, he knew he had no choice but to face him. His thoughts briefly drifted to Lucy. He knew he should be thinking about her and how she was doing, but right now, his father’s orders and Aiden’s arrival took precedence.
When they finally reached Leo’s quarters, he paused before opening the door. He turned to the guard, giving him a quick nod. "Give me a minute. I’ll be right out."
The guard stepped back, giving Leo some space, while Ethan followed behind him. As Leo and Ethan stepped into the apartment, the heavy wooden door creaked shut behind them, leaving the two in a quiet, dimly lit room. The atmosphere was thick with unspoken tension. Leo moved to the far side of the room, his back turned to Ethan as he began to remove his shirt. His movements were deliberate, almost mechanical, as if he was trying to focus on the simple task to keep his mind off everything else.
Ethan stood by the door, leaning against the frame, watching Leo closely. The silence between them was deafening, filled with the weight of everything unsaid. He finally broke the silence, his voice low but steady. "Leo...why did you act like that out there? Like you didn't care about Lucy at all?"
Leo froze for a moment, his fingers pausing as they unbuttoned his shirt. His jaw tightened, and for a few long seconds, he said nothing. When he finally spoke, his voice was cold, almost detached. "It's because of Isabella. I can't afford to show any kind of weakness, any feelings towards Lucy. Not now. Isabella...she'd use it against me."
Ethan frowned, his mind racing. "But Lucy might not see it that way. She might think you don't care about her at all."
Leo nodded, his expression grim. "I know. But I don't have a choice. Not yet. I need time, Ethan. Time to gain power, to become the Alpha. Once I have that, no one will be able to stand in my way. Not Isabella, not anyone. Then, and only then, can I have Lucy all to myself."
Ethan's eyes narrowed as he thought about Leo's words. He understood the logic behind it, but it still didn't sit right with him.
“I can't let Isabella know more than she already knew, you know my Father, he doesn't approve of Lucy… he would have her killed. I can't risk showing any feelings.” He turned to face Ethan.
Ethan nodded his head but then spoke out again. "And what about Aiden?" Ethan asked, his tone cautious. "His presence... It's like a shadow hanging over you. I know you hate him, Leo."
Leo's face darkened at the mention of Aiden's name. His hands clenched into fists, and his voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. "Hate doesn't even begin to describe it, Ethan.
The sight of him... the mere thought of him makes my blood boil. I haven't forgotten what he did. How he humiliated me in front of the whole pack, how he beat me. He's a Lycan, and stronger than me—stronger than any of us. But that doesn't mean I don't want to kill him."
Ethan stiffened at the venom in Leo's words. The raw, unfiltered rage that simmered just beneath the surface was palpable. "You need to be careful, Leo. Aiden’s no ordinary opponent. He's ruthless, and if he senses even a hint of a challenge, he'll not hesitate to crush… you… I mean, anyone… without a second thought."
Leo looked up to notice Ethan after he uttered his words. Ethan knew he said too much and in no time looked away. “You don't have to look away, Ethan… you're right.”
Ethan bowed his head. “I'm sorry, I didn't mean it that way.”
Leo smirked, but it was a twisted, bitter expression. "I know, Ethan. But one day, I'll find a way. I'll take him down, no matter what it takes. This isn't over between us."
Ethan wanted to say more, but before he could speak, there was a sharp knock at the door. Leo stiffened, and Ethan turned towards the sound. A muffled voice came from the other side of the door. "Leo, Aiden is almost at the main gate of the pack."
Leo’s eyes flashed with a mix of anger and fury. He took a deep breath, steadying himself before answering. "I'll be right there."
As the guard’s footsteps faded, Leo turned back to Ethan, his expression hard. "Remember what I said, Ethan. I need time. And until then... I need you to keep an eye on Lucy and keep her safe. Do whatever it takes."
Ethan nodded, though his mind was still swirling with thoughts. "I will, Leo. But be careful. Don't let your hatred for Aiden blind you. We need to stay focused for now… don't show any expression of hate in his presence, he might use it against you and we don't want that."
Leo didn’t respond, but the look in his eyes spoke volumes. He was ready to face Aiden, but beneath the surface, he knew Ethan was right. He nodded and ushered Ethan so they would meet him at the gate to welcome him. He turned away from Ethan, slipping into the black vest his father had given him, the weight of his responsibilities settling heavily on his shoulders.
Ethan immediately rushed and opened the door so that Leo would step out. The guard outside also bowed his head while Ethan shut the door behind him and followed behind Leo, including the guard.
Lucy and Marie worked in silence, their brooms scraping the dust-covered floor of the room meant for Aiden. The air was thick with the scent of neglect, cobwebs clinging to the corners like the room had been forgotten for years. They swept and scrubbed, the grime gradually giving way to a cleaner, fresher space. The old wooden floors began to gleam under their efforts, and the room slowly transformed from a forgotten corner of the pack house into something worthy of the Lycan Prince.Lucy sighed, a loud whisper that echoed in the room. Marie nodded her head. “We're almost done,” she said with a rasped breath. Lucy smiled agreeing with Marie. “I really need a good night's sleep after this, not awaiting Aiden's arrival.” Lucy yawned, trying to cover her mouth with the back of her hand. Marie rushed to her in an attempt to shut her up. Lucy discontinued from yawning, her hand hung in the air as she furrowed her eyebrows trying to catch a glimpse of Marie's action. “Marie, are you okay
Isabella barged into the room, her presence immediately instilling fear. Instinctively, both Lucy and Marie scrambled to their feet, their hearts racing with a mixture of fear and surprise. Isabella ignored them both as her eyes caught the view of the room. Her eyes swept across the room, taking in the sight of their work. She nodded her head and clapped her hands slowly, a satisfied smirk played on her lips as she observed the clean and well swept room. “Well, well, well,” she drawled, her tone laced with a hint of mockery. “It seems you two have actually done something right for once.”Lucy and Marie exchanged a quick glance, both unsure of how to respond. They stood silently, waiting for whatever command Isabella would issue next. The tension in the room was palpable and Marie could feel her heart pounding in her chest. Marie brushed her shoulder against Lucy's. Lucy glanced at her as she noticed the gesture on Marie's face, a sign that tells her to bow her head. Lucy nodded but d
Lucy's feet came to an abrupt stop. There he was–Leo. He was walking down the hallway, dressed in a fitted black jacket and jeans towards Lucy. Lucy mused, and could only stare while Marie followed the direction of Lucy's eyes to see what had stopped her from moving. Lucy watched as Leo walked, his presence which seemed to command attention without effort as everyone bowed as he walked past them. His stride was confident, each step deliberate, exuding the natural authority he carried as the Alpha's son. The fitted black jacket he wore clung to his muscular frame, the fabric emphasizing the sharp lines of his broad shoulders and chest. The deep black color contrasted against his skin, highlighting his powerful build. His jeans fit him perfectly, completing the look that radiated a minor casual dominance and raw masculinity. His hair, dark and slightly tousled, fell effortlessly across his forehead, giving him an air of careless perfection. As Leo walked closer, time seemed to slow fo
Leo stood at the front of the main gate, his posture straight and commanding, as though he were a living statue carved from the stone of authority itself. His hands were clasped firmly behind his back, his eyes fixed on the approaching figure. Beside him was Ethan, who stood with an equally serious demeanor, his sharp eyes scanning the scene with a mixture of scrutiny and concern.Behind them also, a contingent of guards maintained their positions, their expressions betraying nothing but readiness. The air was tense with anticipation, each member of the pack aware of the significance of the visitor about to arrive.Isabella soon emerged from behind them, her presence purposeful. She stood at first on a spot but soon maneuvered to Leo side, her gaze immediately drawn to the distant figure on the horizon. As she took her place next to him, the space between them felt charged with unspoken emotions. Her heart fluttered nervously, a blend of excitement swirling within her. Her affection
Marie felt her breath hitch as her eyes landed on Aiden, her usual composure faltering. She had heard of Aiden's cruelty but seeing him in person was an entirely different experience. All she could notice was his striking presence. But it was his eyes that held Marie captive–icy blue and piercing, like the ocean under a winter sky. They were simultaneously cold and alluring, pulling her in despite the danger they seemed to promise.Marie turned to compose herself, reminding herself that she was here to serve Isabella, not to get lost in the presence of a man who was far beyond her reach. But even as she attempted to focus, her gaze kept drifting back to Aiden. He stood tall, exuding an effortless command that made everyone around him feel small. Marie had never seen anyone so perfectly put together, though she had always admired Leo but Aiden was entirely different. He was so naturally authoritative and she found herself caught between admiration and an unspoken yearning that she kn
Ethan wagged his head slowly hoping that Leo would notice him with the side view of his eyes in an attempt to caution him not to flair up. But neither Leo nor Aiden moved an inch, not any part of their bodies.Isabella also silently wished that no fight would start between the both of them. Aiden, whose eyes were locked with Leo soon curled his lips into a faint smile, a gesture that was less friendly and more taunting as if to say. “I see you.”Leo's blood boiled at the sight of that smile. It was the same smile that had haunted him ever since that fateful day–the day of their fight, the day everything changed. The memory flashed in Leo's mind like lightning: the heated words, the exchange of blows, the sting of betrayal that stoll burned as fresh as the moment it happened. Aiden's voice soon broke the silence, cutting through Leo's like a knife.“Leo.” Aiden's voice was calm, almost casual, but there was an edge to it, a sharpness that Leo could not ignore.Leo’s throat tightened a
Marie, whose mind was still caught in the chilling grip of what had just transpired, could feel her heart pounded relentlessly in her chest, each beat echoing with a mixture of fear and embarrassment. The image of Aiden's piercing blue eyes lingered, seared into her memory and no matter how much she tried, she couldn't shake the feeling of being completely exposed under his gaze.Marie finally took a seat in the room, resting her hands on her knees as she caught her breath. She glanced at Lucy, who was still visibly shaken, her face pale and her eyes distant. Marie's own nerves were frayed, and she desperately needed to make sense of what had happened. “Lucy…what just happened back there?” Marie asked, her voice unsteady. “I—I froze. It's like… I don't even remember what I was supposed to say. Did I do something wrong?”Lucy, too, was struggling to regain her composure. She clutched her arms around herself, as if trying to hold her own trembling in check. She wanted to respond, to fi
The grand hall was filled with the low hum of murmurs and the gentle clinking of silverware as everyone settled around the round table. The room was dimly lit by the warm glow of chandeliers, casting flickering shadows against the stone walls. At the distinguished table in the center sat Alpha Eric, with his commanding presence, exuding an aura of authority that was impossible to ignore. Beside him but distant away by the right, Aiden sat with his usual composed manner, his piercing blue eyes surveying the hall with a cold, calculating gaze. Leo sat on the other side of his father, on the left, tense but outwardly calm, his posture rigid as if bracing himself for what the evening might bring. Next to Leo was Ethan, who had been granted the rare privilege of sitting at the Alpha's table, a proof of his loyalty and status as Leo's most trusted guard.Isabella, sat across from Leo and Ethan as she was beside Aiden, her eyes darting anxiously around the hall. She was doing her best to ma
The tension in the air was fierce even after the fight had come to an abrupt halt. Dust from the scuffle lingered in the breeze and the faint murmur of the dispersing crowd hummed in the air. Leo's hand was still stiffened in the air as he looked up. All focus shifted to the one who had stopped the fight. Alpha Eric stepped in the training ground, his presence commanding immediate attention. Eric strode forward with long, purposeful steps, his silver edge clock billowing slightly behind him. His guards flanked him, their expressions stoic and beside him walked Ethan. Ethan has been the one to deliver the news of the escalating fight. Ethan's eyes scanned the ground, his sharp gaW noting every detail, from the guards to the pack members.Leo straightened the moment he saw his father approach, wiping the sweat from his brow as he quickly stood to his full height. Aiden, however, didn't move right away. Sitting on the dusty ground, he tilted his head slightly, spitting blood to the sid
The training ground buzzed with tension, the air thick with anticipation as Lucy hurried down the dusty path, Marie trailing close behind her. The sun hung high, casting sharp shadows over the guards and the few pack members who had gathered to witness the spectacle. Lucy's heart pounded in her chest, her feet barely touching the ground as she weaved her way through the throne of armored figures.“Excuse us,” Marie muttered, pushing past a particularly burly guard.Lucy didn't stop, her eyes scanning the clearing until she caught sight of the center. A small crowd encircled the two figures at the heart of the commotion, the tension radiating off them like waves. She stepped forward, ignoring the murmurs around her, and found a spot just close enough to get a clear view. She barely noticed the guards muttering about their presence or Marie's standing slightly behind her. Her attention was fixed entirely on the two figures in the center.Aiden stood in a composed stance, his hands clas
The question struck Lucy like a blow and she stumbled under the weight of it—not physically but emotionally. Her breath hit her and she blinked rapidly, trying to compare herself. Love Leo? The words echoed in her mind, unwelcome and painful.Lucy stared at the ground, her grip tightening on her clothes on either side. She didn't answer immediately. Her thoughts were a mess, tumbling over each other in disarray. Why is she asking me this? Why now? And what am I supposed to say? After a long, tense silence, Lucy finally spoke, her voice measured but laced with bitterness. “Leo rejected me with his own mouth,” she said, each word carefully enunciated, “and he told me to forget about him… and that's what I did exactly. Or, how can you expect me to love someone that doesn't love me, huh?”Isabella raised an eyebrow, her expression a mix of skepticism and disbelief. She gestured with one hand, a small, sharp flick of her wrist, as if physically brushing aside Lucy's words. “You didn't answ
The sudden impact threw her off balance, causing a few clumps of dung to fall from the bowl. The heavy bowl wobbled precariously and she scrambled to steady it.“Oh no!” she gasped, her heart pounding. She set the bowl down hastily, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. Her gaze darted up, her breath catching in her throat as she took in the person she had bumped into.It was Aiden. He stood there, his piercing gaze fixed on her. His swift reflexes had saved him from most of the mess, but a smear of dung stained the sleeve of his dark shirt. He looked at it briefly, his expression unreadable, before his eyes shifted back to her.Lucy's fear spiked instantly, her pulse thundering in her ears. Her thoughts raced, chaotic and panicked. Why him? Of all people, why him?Aiden's eyes flicked to the bowl on the ground and back to her. His tone was calm, yet there was an undercurrent of authority. “Why are you carrying that by yourself?”His question was simple but it felt like a challenge.
The early days of the sun were faintly breaking through the cracks of the heavy curtains in Leo's room when he pushed open the door. The air inside was still, carrying the faint scent of cedarwood and smoke from the fireplace he hadn't lit in days. He exhaled heavily, shutting the door behind him and moved to the center of the room. He shrugged off his jacket, hanging it on the peg by the wall, before tugging his shirt over his head. The cool air kissed his bare skin, drawing out a soft sigh as he stretched his shoulders. His muscles ached from the night's relentless training—he’d spent hours in wolf form, rubbing and fighting to exhaust the emotions that had been clawing at him since yesterday. But the ache was nothing compared to the battle in his mind.Turning to grab a clean shirt, his eyes caught the faint rise and fall of a figure on his bed. He stilled, narrowing his eyes, his wolf instantly alert. It took only a moment for him to recognize the brown hair spilling over his pil
The words struck her like a blow. She felt her knees weaken momentarily, but she quickly steadied herself, her fingers curling into fists at her sides. How dare he? she thought, fury and disbelief tangling in her mind. He even has the audacity to call Lucy his mate right in front of me. Her composure wavered for only a moment before she regained her footing, glaring at Leo with newfound resolve. “And exactly are you planning to do that?” she shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “She's a maid, Leo. She has no standing here. Why make you think you can claim her? Not when your father is here.”Leo didn't back down. If anything, her defiance only seemed to stoke the fire within him. He took another step forward, closing the distance between them. “Because I'm going to be Alpha soon,” he said, his voice low and commanding. “And when that happens, you'll see. I don't need your permission.”The determination in his voice sent a chill down Isabella's spine. She narrowed her eyes, stud
The heavy wooden door closed behind them with a low cream and Isabella found herself standing in the dim warmth of Leo's room. The space was simple yet deeply personal, an extension of its owner. The air was scented faintly with pine and leather, and the faint bluish light of the moon filtered in through the narrow window. Her eyes immediately fell on the intricate carvings etched into the walls—images of wolves mid-run, trees swaying and the crescent moon. Each one was unique, bearing the unmistakable mark of Leo's careful hand. She stepped closer to one of the larger drawings, tracing the grooves with her fingers. “You carved these yourself,” she murmured, her voice reverent.Leo, standing a few places behind her, crossed his arms over his chest and kept mute, his eyes following her movements closely.Isabella inhaled deeply, her eyes roaming the room. It had been so long since she'd last stood here. She took in the sturdy wooden bed, its frame hand-carved to match the alls, the sta
The hallways were long and the stone floors echoed with the sound of Lucy's soft footsteps as she wandered aimlessly, her mind lost in a haze of confusion and turmoil. Her thoughts kept circling back to the words Isabella had said, echoing in her head like a constant drumbeat.“Aiden's ruthless, cruel… he won't care about you. He's never cared about anyone…”Lucy's head throbbed with the weight of those words, the uncertainty about what lay ahead heavy in her chest. She could barely hold onto the fragments of her thoughts, let alone understand the difficulties that surrounded her.Her temperature had spiked again, and she felt dizzy but that was the least of her worries. She had to focus. I have to get a grip, she thought. I can't let this affect me…But before she could lose herself again, she heard her name—soft, yet urgent—calling out from behind her.“Lucy,” Marie's voice broke through the fog.Lucy didn't respond at first. She kept walking, one foot in front of the other, her min
Lucy blinked, looking up into Leo's familiar face. His eyes were sharp, but there was a flicker of concern beneath his furrowed brow.“Lucy,” he said, his tone softening. “Are you alright?”Her lips parted but no words came out. She felt his hands tightened slightly on her shoulders, anchoring her as she swayed, her gaze fixed on the ground. Her silence gnawed at him, but before he could press further, Ethan, who had been following closely behind, cleared his throat.“Leo,” he began, his voice low but insistent. “You can't be seen like this with her. Especially not by your father.”Leo tensed, nodding his head. “I know,” he replied curtly, glancing at Ethan.“Do you?” Ethan pressed, stepping closer. “Because if your father sees you—”“I said I know!” Leo snapped, his voice echoing down the corridor. He took a breath, his frustration barely contained.Ethan fell silent, his gaze flicking to Lucy, who was only staring but seemed oblivious to their exchange. He sighed. “I'm just trying t
