Leo stood before his father, his posture rigid as he tried to steady his breathing. The hallway outside the chamber had felt suffocating, but now that he was standing in front of Alpha Eric, the air seemed even thicker. He could feel his father’s eyes on him, sharp and discerning, as if they could pierce right through his thoughts.

“Leo,” Eric began, his voice calm but carrying the weight of authority, “you seem nervous. This isn’t like you.”

Leo’s heart skipped a beat, but he quickly composed himself. **I can’t let him see through me,** he thought, forcing his expression to remain neutral. He straightened his shoulders and met his father’s gaze with as much confidence as he could muster.

“I’m fine, Father,” Leo replied, his voice steady. “There’s nothing to worry about.”

Eric’s eyes narrowed slightly, studying Leo’s face. The silence between them stretched for what felt like an eternity, and Leo’s mind raced. **Does he know? Is he going to ask about the other day?** The memory of his fists smashing into the wall flashed in his mind, and he could almost feel the rawness of his knuckles again. He watched his father as he thought he might be thinking about asking but to his surprise, Eric didn’t mention it.

Finally, Eric broke the silence. “Good,” he said, his tone even, though there was a hint of something unreadable in his eyes. “I need you focused, Leo. There’s a lot at stake.”

Leo nodded, relief washing over him that his father hadn’t pursued the matter further. **Maybe he didn’t see, or maybe he’s waiting for the right moment to confront me about it.** But now wasn’t the time to dwell on it. He needed to stay sharp, to keep his guard up.

“What did you want to see me about, Father?” Leo asked, steering the conversation back to his father’s agenda.

Eric leaned back slightly in his chair, his eyes never leaving Leo’s. “Aiden will be arriving tonight,” he said, his voice carrying the gravity of the news. “He’ll be staying in preparation for the celebration. I expect you to be there to welcome him.”

Leo’s stomach tightened at the mention of Aiden. Aiden was a Lycan and the strongest of them all from another pack, one with whom Eric had a complicated relationship. **So that’s what this is about.** Leo’s mind whirred, trying to think through the implications. **Aiden arriving here... it means things are going to get more tense.**

He clenched his fists tightly at his sides at the thought of Aiden's name. The mention of Aiden’s name ignited a fury within him that he could barely contain. **Aiden... of all people, why him?** The memory of their last encounter surged to the forefront of his mind, causing a bitter taste.

It had been in front of the whole pack, a fight that had started with words and escalated into something much more brutal. They had circled each other, both refusing to back down. Leo had fought with everything he had, but Aiden... Aiden had been too strong. His strength was beyond that of a regular werewolf, and Leo had quickly realized that he was outmatched. Aiden was a Lycan, a breed apart, with power that made Leo feel like a child in comparison. The fight had ended with Leo on the ground, bloodied and defeated, while Aiden had stood over him, victorious and unscathed. The humiliation of that day had never left him. **He’s always been my enemy,** Leo thought bitterly. **And now he’s coming here?**

His father’s voice broke through his thoughts, cold and authoritative. “Yes, Leo, what happened,” Eric questioned, his head raised.

“Nothing, but, is it the same Aiden, the Lycan Prince?”

“Yes, Leo, the same Aiden, the Lycan Prince. You know what this means. You must prepare yourself. He’ll be arriving any moment now.”

Leo’s jaw tightened, the muscles in his neck straining with the effort to keep his emotions in check. **Why now? Why does it have to be now, when Lucy needs me the most?** The realization that he wouldn’t have time to help her out, that he would have to put everything aside to deal with Aiden’s arrival, filled him with a helpless rage. **Damn him. Damn them all.**

He couldn’t keep the bitterness from seeping into his voice as he asked, “Why tonight? He wasn’t supposed to arrive until tomorrow.”

Eric’s gaze was stern, unwavering. “He’s a prince, Leo. He can do as he pleases. No one questions him, not even us. They're still the ruling pack, and there are lines we do not cross.”

“But, the humiliation of that day… I can't face him, it will be difficult.”

Eric stood up from his chair and walked up to Leo. He grabbed him by his shoulder. “Look at me Leo… that is gone, here is now and there is nothing you can do about it… that was a long time ago and that incident would have been long gone from the pack's mind. Don't worry about it. Worry about now, you're also strong and remember that you will have to face him during this celebration period.”

Leo bit back a retort, knowing it would do no good to argue. **Of course. Aiden can come and go as he pleases, and we’re expected to bow and scrape like everyone else.** He hated it. Hated the power Aiden wielded, hated the respect and fear that he commanded. But most of all, he hated that he would have to abandon Lucy in her time of need because of it.

But there was nothing he could do. Not in front of his father. Not now that his Father trusted him. “Fine, I'll be prepared, father. He'll meet me here. I've learnt a lot since my encounter with him,” Leo said, his voice flat, though the anger simmered just beneath the surface. “I’ll prepare myself.”

Eric studied him for a moment, as if sensing the storm brewing within his son. But he said nothing, simply giving a curt nod of dismissal. “Good. I expect you to be ready when he arrives.”

Leo turned on his heel, his mind racing. **Damn it all. I have to find Ethan. I have to know what’s happening with Lucy.** But as he made his way out of the chamber, his father’s presence lingered in his mind like a heavy shadow. **Aiden... I’ll be damned if I let him humiliate me again.**

The thought of seeing Aiden again, of having to face him after all this time, sent a fresh wave of anger coursing through him. **He’s a monster, but he won’t win this time.**

Just as he was about to step out of the door. His Father called out to him and stopped him. Leo shivered as the sound of his voice didn't sound friendly.

**What is it this time?** he thought with a slight fear that struck his heart.

Leo turned slowly, trying to mask the storm of thoughts that welled within him. His heart pounded in his chest, his thoughts spiraling out of control. **What now?** For a brief moment, he feared his father might have noticed something was amiss, that he might question his intentions or demand an explanation for his barely-contained rage.As Leo faced his Father, he was composed and asked his father what the matter was as he needed to prepare for the coming of Aiden. Eric smiled and nodded his head. “Yes I know… That's very good of you, Leo,” Eric said with a smile on his face and simply held out a vest, black and finely crafted. "Wear this," he instructed, his tone leaving no room for argument. "During Aiden's welcome."Leo's tension eased as he realized it was just a vest. **That’s it?** He had half-expected something far worse, a command that would put him even more on edge, but this... this he could handle. He reached out and took the vest from his father, nodding in acknowledgme

Lucy’s heart pounded in her chest as she stood amidst the dense forest, the shadows of tall trees casting long shapes across the ground. The darkness enveloped her like a shroud, the moonlight barely penetrating through the thick canopy of leaves above. She glanced down at herself and turned around on a spot to notice her surroundings but at the same moment, she gazed back at her hands as they seemed to be trembling. She soon realized she didn’t recognize her surroundings. Panic surged through her veins, thoughts racing through her mind. *Where am I? How did I get here?*The silence was almost suffocating, broken only by the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze. She strained her ears, trying to catch any sound, any clue that might explain where she was. She got nothing nor heard anything but then, the silence was shattered by a low, menacing growl. It echoed through the trees, sending a shiver down her spine. She turned around and could sense that the sound was unmistakably close,

Lucy’s eyelids fluttered open, the world around her a blur of colors and shapes. For a moment, she struggled to make sense of where she was, her mind still clouded by the remnants of the dream—or was it a nightmare? She couldn’t tell. Her head throbbed like it was being hit by a hard object. Her body felt like it was weighed down by a thousand stones. She blinked rapidly, trying to focus her vision, the edges of her surroundings gradually sharpening into view. She noticed the two figures that knelt before her, their faces close, whispering her name in soft, concerned tones. It took a moment before she could get a clear vision but as her vision cleared, she finally recognized them—It was Katherine and Marie. A slight relief washed over her at the sight of them, but it was short-lived, quickly replaced by the confusion that gnawed at her mind.“Lucy… Lucy, are you alright?” Katherine’s voice was laced with worry as she gently shook Lucy’s shoulder. Ethan stood in the doorway, his expression unreadable. His eyes were dark, filled with a storm of emotions that he kept carefully hidden behind a confident stride. Isabella stood with an unfriendly gaze. “Alright,” Isabella snapped, her voice sharp and demanding. “What the hell is going on?”Lucy’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of Isabella. Isabella’s sudden entrance had shattered the fragile calm that had settled over the room, and now tension crackled in the air like electricity. Lucy sat up straighter, her eyes wide as she tried to gather her thoughts. Marie was the first to react, her eyes narrowing as she shot Isabella a disapproving look. “Isabella, I don't… I mean.!” she stammered as she could not get her words together.“Can someone please help her out?”Isabella interrupted, her voice rising. “What is she trying to say?” She demanded, turning to notice Lucy.Katherine exchanged a glance with Lucy, who looked pale and exhausted, the weight of everything bearing down on her. Lucy stood, still frozen on the spot as she pressed on with her gaze on Leo. For a brief moment, the world seemed to narrow down to just the two of them, the distance between them feeling simultaneously too far and too close. The connection grew stronger as she watched him, like it's pulling her forward like an invisible thread connecting them. But within a split second , she wagged her head and grunted as Leo wasn’t alone. Just behind him, Ethan stood with his arms crossed, his expression unreadable. Leo and Ethan met with the guard on the way. The guard immediately bowed his head while Leo watched him. There was silence that hung amongst them, inciting great tension. Leo narrowed his thoughts, knowing he had been missing and instead of him working on the errand his Father had sent him, he was busy doing something else and the guard allocated to him would be wondering what had happened and where he had been. Leo sighed deeply but kept mute, knowing that the guard was already curious as to where he had been. The guard, still a bit uneasy from having lost sight of Leo earlier, broke the silence first."Leo, I searched everywhere for you, but you vanished. I was starting to worry," the guard said, his voice a mix of concern but relief, since he found him already.Leo glanced at the guard with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood. "I needed some air. Can’t have you following me everywhere, can I?" Leo shrugged and took a brief look at Ethan so he would give away some expression to sup

The tension in the air was fierce even after the fight had come to an abrupt halt. Dust from the scuffle lingered in the breeze and the faint murmur of the dispersing crowd hummed in the air. Leo's hand was still stiffened in the air as he looked up. All focus shifted to the one who had stopped the fight. Alpha Eric stepped in the training ground, his presence commanding immediate attention. Eric strode forward with long, purposeful steps, his silver edge clock billowing slightly behind him. His guards flanked him, their expressions stoic and beside him walked Ethan. Ethan has been the one to deliver the news of the escalating fight. The training ground buzzed with tension, the air thick with anticipation as Lucy hurried down the dusty path, Marie trailing close behind her. The sun hung high, casting sharp shadows over the guards and the few pack members who had gathered to witness the spectacle. Lucy's heart pounded in her chest, her feet barely touching the ground as she weaved her way through the throne of armored figures.“Excuse us,” Marie muttered, pushing past a particularly burly guard.Lucy didn't stop, her eyes scanning the clearing until she caught sight of the center. A small crowd encircled the two figures at the heart of the commotion, the tension radiating off them like waves. She stepped forward, ignoring the murmurs around her, and found a spot just close enough to get a clear view. She barely noticed the guards muttering about their presence or Marie's standing slightly behind her. Her attention was fixed entirely on the two figures in the center.Aiden stood in a composed stance, his hands clas

The question struck Lucy like a blow and she stumbled under the weight of it—not physically but emotionally. Her breath hit her and she blinked rapidly, trying to compare herself. Love Leo? The words echoed in her mind, unwelcome and painful.Lucy stared at the ground, her grip tightening on her clothes on either side. She didn't answer immediately. Her thoughts were a mess, tumbling over each other in disarray. Why is she asking me this? Why now? And what am I supposed to say? After a long, tense silence, Lucy finally spoke, her voice measured but laced with bitterness. “Leo rejected me with his own mouth,” she said, each word carefully enunciated, “and he told me to forget about him… and that's what I did exactly. Or, how can you expect me to love someone that doesn't love me, huh?”Isabella raised an eyebrow, her expression a mix of skepticism and disbelief. She gestured with one hand, a small, sharp flick of her wrist, as if physically brushing aside Lucy's words. “You didn't answ

The sudden impact threw her off balance, causing a few clumps of dung to fall from the bowl. The heavy bowl wobbled precariously and she scrambled to steady it.“Oh no!” she gasped, her heart pounding. She set the bowl down hastily, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. Her gaze darted up, her breath catching in her throat as she took in the person she had bumped into.It was Aiden. He stood there, his piercing gaze fixed on her. His swift reflexes had saved him from most of the mess, but a smear of dung stained the sleeve of his dark shirt. He looked at it briefly, his expression unreadable, before his eyes shifted back to her.Lucy's fear spiked instantly, her pulse thundering in her ears. Her thoughts raced, chaotic and panicked. Why him? Of all people, why him?Aiden's eyes flicked to the bowl on the ground and back to her. His tone was calm, yet there was an undercurrent of authority. “Why are you carrying that by yourself?”His question was simple but it felt like a challenge.

The early days of the sun were faintly breaking through the cracks of the heavy curtains in Leo's room when he pushed open the door. The air inside was still, carrying the faint scent of cedarwood and smoke from the fireplace he hadn't lit in days. He exhaled heavily, shutting the door behind him and moved to the center of the room. He shrugged off his jacket, hanging it on the peg by the wall, before tugging his shirt over his head. The cool air kissed his bare skin, drawing out a soft sigh as he stretched his shoulders. His muscles ached from the night's relentless training—he’d spent hours in wolf form, rubbing and fighting to exhaust the emotions that had been clawing at him since yesterday. But the ache was nothing compared to the battle in his mind.Turning to grab a clean shirt, his eyes caught the faint rise and fall of a figure on his bed. He stilled, narrowing his eyes, his wolf instantly alert. It took only a moment for him to recognize the brown hair spilling over his pil

The words struck her like a blow. She felt her knees weaken momentarily, but she quickly steadied herself, her fingers curling into fists at her sides. How dare he? she thought, fury and disbelief tangling in her mind. He even has the audacity to call Lucy his mate right in front of me. Her composure wavered for only a moment before she regained her footing, glaring at Leo with newfound resolve. “And exactly are you planning to do that?” she shot back, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “She's a maid, Leo. She has no standing here. Why make you think you can claim her? Not when your father is here.”Leo didn't back down. If anything, her defiance only seemed to stoke the fire within him. He took another step forward, closing the distance between them. “Because I'm going to be Alpha soon,” he said, his voice low and commanding. “And when that happens, you'll see. I don't need your permission.”The determination in his voice sent a chill down Isabella's spine. She narrowed her eyes, stud

The heavy wooden door closed behind them with a low cream and Isabella found herself standing in the dim warmth of Leo's room. The space was simple yet deeply personal, an extension of its owner. The air was scented faintly with pine and leather, and the faint bluish light of the moon filtered in through the narrow window. Her eyes immediately fell on the intricate carvings etched into the walls—images of wolves mid-run, trees swaying and the crescent moon. Each one was unique, bearing the unmistakable mark of Leo's careful hand. She stepped closer to one of the larger drawings, tracing the grooves with her fingers. “You carved these yourself,” she murmured, her voice reverent.Leo, standing a few places behind her, crossed his arms over his chest and kept mute, his eyes following her movements closely.Isabella inhaled deeply, her eyes roaming the room. The hallways were long and the stone floors echoed with the sound of Lucy's soft footsteps as she wandered aimlessly, her mind lost in a haze of confusion and turmoil. Her thoughts kept circling back to the words Isabella had said, echoing in her head like a constant drumbeat.“Aiden's ruthless, cruel… he won't care about you. He's never cared about anyone…”Lucy's head throbbed with the weight of those words, the uncertainty about what lay ahead heavy in her chest. She could barely hold onto the fragments of her thoughts, let alone understand the difficulties that surrounded her.Her temperature had spiked again, and she felt dizzy but that was the least of her worries. She had to focus. His eyes were sharp, but there was a flicker of concern beneath his furrowed brow.“Lucy,” he said, his tone softening. “Are you alright?”Her lips parted but no words came out. She felt his hands tightened slightly on her shoulders, anchoring her as she swayed, her gaze fixed on the ground. Her silence gnawed at him, but before he could press further, Ethan, who had been following closely behind, cleared his throat.“Leo,” he began, his voice low but insistent. “You can't be seen like this with her. Especially not by your father.”Leo tensed, nodding his head. “I know,” he replied curtly, glancing at Ethan.“Do you?” Ethan pressed, stepping closer. “Because if your father sees you—”“I said I know!” Leo snapped, his voice echoing down the corridor. He took a breath, his frustration barely contained.Ethan fell silent, his gaze flicking to Lucy, who was only staring but seemed oblivious to their exchange. He sighed. “I'm just trying t
