CHAPTER NINE

EMILY’S P.O.V

On our way to Ethan’s house,I couldn’t stop thinking about what Granny said. How on earth am I supposed to change this Asshole? Just sitting in his car with him gave me a claustrophobic feeling.

But looking at him up close made his handsome increase,his pointed noise and damn he has a kissable lips,he looked like a Greek God,I also noticed he had broad shoulders that would be good for a warm hug ,what was i thinking I shook my head as I screamed in my head”he hates you so you better get your head and thinking straight”I thought and breathed in and out.

I could see him through the corner of my eyes,staring at me like I was insane or something.He sat very far away from me. I thought he was going to pass through the door and fall out.I would have been very happy,what a crazy thought,I laughed.

He turned and looked at me like I had two heads and asked “what is so funny?”.

“This is your car you don’t need to feel uncomfortable because you don’t want to sit in the same place with me,you should have let me take a cab if you knew I would be inconveniencing you”I answered,not knowing where I got the boldness from.

He glared at me”You are my maid now so I have to take responsibility”he said,it was actually kind of him ,I began to wonder if there was a good part of him that he didn’t want others to see.

We Arrived his penthouse,He ordered Harris to take my belongings upstairs.I began to wonder if he was actually being kind to me or just my imagination,because my bag wasn’t very heavy.

His penthouse was on the top floor,we took the elevator and it was just him and i in the elevator,the atmosphere was tensed because I was still getting to his domineering presence and it would take a while for me to get used to it.I could see him stealing glances at me,many thoughts began to run in my head.

My train of thoughts was interrupted by the door of elevator opening.We went into his apartment and my jaw dropped open in awe,wow!this is what we call living in luxury,his house was like a paradise on earth,his furnitures were top notch,the company that decorated this house needed to be awarded,damn! I guess this is how billionaires live their lives.

There was a glass door by the side of the living room leading to a balcony,I didn’t mind that Ethan was there or would scold as usual,I was carried away by the beauty of his apartment so I started walking in the direction of the glass door leading to the balcony

I walked to glass and went out to the balcony and again my jaws dropped in awe,it was like they set up a mini lounging area,and above all,the view from here was breathtaking,From up here I could see the whole of New York,the air was clean and less suffocating here.I had a feeling that this was gonna be my favorite place at his penthouse.

He walked to me at the balcony area and said”Enough of the touring ,you’ll have time to continue with it later,for now let me show you your room” he started walking in the direction of what I thought was where the rooms were located.

His voice and the manner in which he spoke to me became less commanding and harsh.I frowned. Why has his behavior suddenly changed? Is this a ploy to get me to be relaxed and then he’ll give me back to my stepmother? I wondered.But quietly followed him.

There was a door at the left wing of the living room which led to a balcony that had two rooms opposite each other,He opened the door to the one on the right and let me go in first,again my jaw dropped,Wow! the room was bigger than the one I had at home and also the one I stayed in at the Belford’s mansion.

There was a queen sized bed,an eighty five inches 3D television and a mighty and luxurious dressing table with different kinds of beauty care and makeup products which I could tell were very expensive.I walked to the bathroom and saw that I had everything I needed too,I gasped even a jacuzzi? I didn’t know why he put in so much effort to do these things for me,I was just going to work as a maid here right?

I had to ask”Did this room belong to your girlfriend?You don’t have to make me stay in this room,I can be sleeping on the sofa in the living room,I wouldn’t want to inconvenience you anymore than I have,after all I am just a maid who will work for you”I said.

He looked surprised hearing me say that “whenever we are at home you can call me Ethan,Also to answer your question I don’t have a girlfriend,I live alone but sometimes Ava comes to visit and uses this room,you are going to be staying in this room and that’s an order”he said with finality.

Finally I could see he was not as bad as people thought him to be,he was considerate and kind but always wanted to hide it by playing hard. Working for him won’t be as bad as I thought,I think to myself.

“Have you had breakfast” I asked,

“No,but you should rest and finish unpacking and settling in your room first”he said calmly and walked out to his room.

I wondered what his room would look like if mine was this awesome,I unpacked my clothes into the wardrobe.Ethan didn’t leave his room since he went in I wondered what he would be doing and why he didn’t go to work today.I stayed in my room until it was time for me to prepare lunch.

I went into the kitchen and was impressed with the modern utensils I saw,for a bachelor he sure had a lot of cooking equipment.I checked and saw a lot of foodstuffs,Ethan was damn serious about eating home made food judging by the amount of foodstuffs he stocked the kitchen with.

I prepared fish and chips for lunch and was setting the dining table when Ethan walked out of his room,

“Oh Ethan there you are,I was about to call you,lunch is ready “I said smiling,deep down I hoped he would throw a good about my dish after tasting it.

He walked to the dining table and sat down as I started dishing out his food for him to eat. Just then we heard the sound of his doorbell.I went to check who was at the door and behold it was Nathan.I opened the door and let him.

“Hi Em,how are you doing? I Came to check if Ethan hasn’t skinned you alive yet”he said trying to crack jokes.I just forced a smile on my face feeling awkward since Ethan was here.

He walked to the dining table with a small seized shopping bag and sat with Ethan.I followed and continued dishing out the food for them in silence.

“Hey bud how you doing “Nathan asked,

“I’m fine,you didn’t tell me you were coming “Ethan said with a look of surprise and suspicion on his face.

“I came to check on my friend Em,”he said boldly with a smile on his face. Ethan frowned and stiffened on his sit.

“Here u go Em,I got you a phone like I said I would”He said as he stretched his hand to me with the shopping bag.

I felt like the ground should open and swallow me,did Nathan have to give it to me in the presence of Ethan,was he trying to get me in trouble,my face became red with embarrassment as I slowly stretched my hand to collect the gift but before I could grab the bag,Ethan snatched the bag and flung it to the door way.

I groaned,I knew I had gotten into serious trouble.Ethan looked very annoyed and said,

“Nathan, if this is the reason why you came to the house when you are supposed to be taking care of your patients in the hospital,then leave my house,”he sneered.

Nathan and I both opened our eyes wide in shock,did Ethan just say what he said to his friend?From his facial expression I could see that Nathan was offended by Ethans words .

“You don’t get to make decisions for her, she's a grown woman,it’s not like your boyfriend or father”Nathan retorted,fuming with anger.

Ethan banged his hands on the table and said”She is my maid and staying in my house so I get dictate what she does and doesn’t do,especially the people she hangs around with,I will buy a phone for her myself,she is my maid so it would be my responsibility to take care of her not yours and if you don’t like that you can go fuck yourself”.

Nathan looked at his friend with disbelief and angrily left the house without even sparing me a glance.I turned to explain myself to Ethan but he just stood up from the table angrily and went to his room without even eating the lunch I prepared.

I stood there shocked and confused beyond my expectations.

What the fuck just happened?
