“Come on, son,” she replied, walking away from the room and back into the waiting room. I looked back into the room where Ashley was and my breath came back to my lungs once I saw her vitals normal and the nurses and doctors relaxed since the few seconds I had seen them. I then let my legs follow my mother out to the waiting room, where she was already sitting, along with Jason and Freddie.

As I walked into the room, Jason and Freddie looked up at me and immediately stood up, both of them frightened by the news that I was going to deliver.

“She is alive,” was all I could give them before I collapsed into the chair next to my mother, emotionally drained and too scared to think of what the future held. “Adrian,” Jason said, making me lift my head up as it was hanging low. I watched as he took something out of his back pocket and handed me a small piece of folded-up paper.
