Chapter 1:The confrontation

last update Last Updated: 2024-11-23 03:37:06

Daniela stood  in the grand lobby of a   four-star hotel, the air thick with the scent of wealth and  exclusivity. Marble  floors gleamed beneath Crystal chandeliers, reflecting a world she had once dreamed of but had long since left behind . Her fingers trembled as she clung a folder with the DNA test results that showed proof of the truth she had kept hidden all these years . She wasn't here to admire the  opulence, nor was she the same woman who had once been captivated, then cast aside by a billionaire.

Today, she  was here to confront Alexander  Dane. She had rehearsed  this  moment  countless times in  her mind, but  nothing prepared her for the sight of him stepping into the room. Alexander  Dane . The man she once loved , who single handedly tore her family apart with a ruthless business  takeover. She hadn't seen  him in five years, he knew nothing  about her or her whereabouts . Yet ,he looked  exactly  as she remembered, lean and tall ,dressed in a dark, tailored  suit  that was more  expensive than her house  rent. He stood  near the beautifully  decorated  ceiling  windows, staring at the city he owned with one hand resting  in his pocket, while  the other  scrolled  confidently across his phone. His posture was relaxed, but his gaze was sharp as ever. When he looked up and met her eyes,it felt like  a shift  in gravity, his focus heavy and piercing.

The air  thickened as their eyes met, and  Daniela's  heart pounded  in her chest. She hadn't  expected him to  recognise  her after all this time. Back then, She had been a “ Nobody”, just a small town girl caught in a fleeting affair with a man who had moved on without a second choice.  Memories  of  Alexander- both tender and painful flooded back. He had  once been her everything, the man who noticed her when she felt invisible, who made her feel desired  and cherished and showed her what love  was like. But behind his kindness was a  ruthless  ambition that didn't  care about  the cost.  Back then,Daniela had  been so naive, just a young  woman with dreams of making  something meaningful  for herself . She fell in love with  Alexander's charisma and  warmth, only to realise too late that his world was built on something darker - A brutal  business  empire that thrived on swallowing up smaller, struggling companies . She  had not fully understood it until he set his sights  on her family's business. His  evil deeds hadn't  just been ruthless; they  had been  personal. It was her father's business that Alexander had targeted when expanding into new markets.Despite  her family's  effort  to fight back,Dane industries   swept in like a  predator  , dismantling  everything her father had spent his life building, leaving nothing  behind. The most devastating  part ?

Daniela hadn't known about the plan until it was all over. She trusted Alexander  with her whole hearts that even as whispunaware about  the plan until it was over. She had  put so much trust in Alexander that even as the whispers in her family  grew louder  she was confused about  the  whole  situation.  Until one after the other, the truth began to  reveal , the contracts, the aggressive acquisitions  and the breach her father's  company couldn't defend itself against. Alexander's plan was never to protect  her or  family ; he had seen them as another stepping  stone to greater power.

As if that was not enough, her family  had been left broken and her father's health was deteriorating under the pain of loss and betrayal. And  Daniela, caught between the  man she loved and the family  she adored , had felt her heart split. She pleaded with  Alexander to reconsider his decision, but he had simply looked at her, his face not showing  any remorse.” It's  just business,Daniela “. Those words cut deeper into her than she could ever express, a realization that the man she had once cherished was capable of separating his emotions  from his actions  completely. She had left him that night, heartbroken and disillusioned, walking away from a future she had once thought would include him. The painof that betrayal  had stayed with her haunting  her daily life and reshaping the way she saw the  world.  But there was something she hasn't told him after their separation , something  she was very frightened to say. She had found out  she was pregnant with Alexander’s child.           Out of sorrow, she raised the baby alone , vowing that her son would  never know  the legacy of  cold ambition that had devastated her family.  David ha grown up  asking for his father . For five years ,she had protected  him from his father's  world ,but the truth had finally  caught  up with her.  David was asking about his father more often, and she couldn't  ignore him anymore,no matter how much she wanted  to.

And now, here  she was, about to confront the man who had destroyed her family’s legacy.  She walked toward him, her steps steady, but  her courage faltering beneath the surface.  Her fingers burned from clutching the envelope so tightly, her words carefully rehearsed but fragile on her tongue.

“ Mr Dane”,she began, her voice steady  but laced with a  tension she struggled to  keep in check.Alexander  looked  at her, reluctant , a flicker of curiosity in his gaze as he wondered what had brought her here. “ Daniela”, he replied smoothly, as if they were business  associates discussing  a contract rather than  former lovers tangled in the bitterness of the past. “ it's  been a while”.“ Not  long enough  for you to  forget”, She replied, her tone sharper than intended.  A flicker  of surprise crossed his face , vanishing as quickly  as it had come , replaced  by a calm , unreadable  expression . His gaze shifted to  the envelope clutched  tightly in her hand. ”You’ve come a long  way just to remind me”, he said. She took a  steady ing breath ,  determined to keep  her anger in check. This isn't a reminder”, she said,  lifting  the  envelope  slightly .” it's  something I  should have told you years ago”. She watched his expression harden, tension tightening his jaw. But before he could  respond , the sound  of footsteps echoed across the marble  floor behind  her.   Daniela  turned, and her stomach twisting as she recognised  the man approaching.

It was Alexander's   younger brother, Richard  Dane-  A cunning  man known for digging into  people's  past and  wielding that information to his advantage.  His  dark eyes gleamed with a dangerous glint as he approached .something  dangerous as he approached.  “ Daniela peter”, he  greeted, his  tone laced with mockery .” Of all places…” Daniela  forced herself to  stand tall , but she could feel the cracks forming in her composure. She knew what Richard was capable of, he had always been a shadow in Alexander's life, a man who let nothing  escape  his control. If he was here,it was no  coincidence. “I   didn't  realize this was a family  affair’,she said, her voice steady but strained as her gaze flickered between  Richard and Alexander.Richard let out a low, mocking laugh that  echoed through the room. “ Oh , but in the Dane family”, he said, his eyes glinting as they darted to the envelope in her hand, “ Secrets are  always family business “.

Alexander's gaze  darkened as he looked between his brother and  Daniela, something  unreadable flickering in his expression .” What's going on  here?”he asked, his voice  low and tense.Daniela's  throat  felt dry as she struggled to find her voice, summoning the courage to speak. “This  isn't about  you, Richard”,she managed , holding Alexander's gaze.” it's  between  Alexander and me”.   Richard  stepped  closer,a calculated  gleam in his eyes.”Oh,I think its very much my business”,he said smoothly , his stare cutting into her like a scalpel. “You see, Alexander  has a lot at stake . We both do”.   Daniela  felt her words crumble, the weight of her  secrets pressing down on her, forcing her to confront the truth she’d buried for so long. She had come here to face one man,to reveal something she had held onto in silence, but now she found herself ensnared in a web of power and manipulation  that extended far beyond what she’d anticipated.

Turning  back to  Alexander,She met his  eyes, her resolve  steady .” Five years ago”, She began, her voice low but unwavering , “ You walked out of  my life without a second thought .  But you left something  behind”. Alexander's eyes flickered , a spark of  confusion crossing  his face, quickly  replaced by  a look of guarded suspicion. “ What  are you talking about?” . Daniela took a  steadying breath, allowing  the silence to  stretch painfully between them.  Finally, she uttered the  words that would  change  everything .” You have a son,Alexander”.

Daniela's chest tightened under his penetrating gaze, and goosebumps prickled her arms despite the heat of her anger.“ But how?” he finally managed, his voice rough, strained.” We used protection that night. Daniela stood by the window, her fingers trembling as she gently drew back the curtain . Her gaze fell to the street below , and her heart skipped a beat when she saw a black car pulling up to the gate of her house. Anxiety gripped her chest as she glanced through the glass. When she recognised who it was, her stomach twisted. Alexander . She wished, in that moment , that the meeting could be called off but it was far too late. He was already here. She turned to glance at Noah, who sat cross- legged on the living room floor, humming softly as he played with his toys. The sight of his innocent joy only made Daniela's thoughts spiral further. How would Noah react to Alexander?Would Alexander truly care for his son, or was this meeting just a way to ease his guilt? Her chest tightened as she placed a hand over her heart, willing it to slow down. The doorbell rang, snapping her out of her thoughts. She moved toward the door, her heels clicking softly agains

The door closed behind Alexander with a click, but Daniela couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong somewhere. The quietness that followed was unnecessarily odd, filling the room with suffocating silence. She stood by the window, her fingers pressed to the cool glass, her breath heaving heavily as she watched Alexander black car disappear into the night. The streets were empty and the glow of streetlights cast long shadows across the road. Yet, inside her chest, her heart was sounding loudly- out of rhythm. Something about this night felt wrong,as if the weight of the past had just shifted. The key chain that had glinted in the moonlight near the gate kept flashing in her mind. She couldn't help but replay the moment it had caught in her eye, as if it had been waiting there for her to find it. Her heart sank as memories she had long time buried began to surface.A time where everything had seemed so much simpler , and she didnt have to live in constan

The palace was quiet—too quiet. Even the birds that usually fluttered outside the grand windows of the king’s chamber were absent, as if nature itself mourned the weariness of the man within.Alexander sat on the edge of his bed, the heavy robe of royalty pooling around him like a shroud. The golden crown, once proudly perched upon his head, now lay abandoned on the floor, its polished surface reflecting nothing but a broken legacy. He had sent the servants away hours ago, requesting solitude. But truth be told, he had been alone for far longer than that—ever since Daniela left, ever since the boy vanished. Ever since he traded his humanity for power. The voices from the past echoed relentlessly in his mind."You want her to be queen? There is a way…""Put this powder in her drink. It will cloud her mind and draw her to you.""Rub this oil on your palms before you touch her—she will not resist.""You must act fast. The elders are watching. You need an heir."At the time, it all seemed

The palace was quieter these days—too quiet for a man who once ruled with noise, power, and pride. Alexander sat by his window, fingers toying with a half-filled goblet of wine. Outside, the moonlight brushed the edges of the thatched palace roof, casting ghostly shadows on the walls. Chisom had long drifted to sleep, her breathing soft, steady. But Alexander was wide awake—again. It had been six moons since she was brought to him, her skin soft as silk, her smile gentle, her body yielding. Each night, she came to his bed, and each night, he held hope in his loins and in his heart. But morning always came with the same bitter emptiness. No signs. No whispers of cravings. No swelling belly. No child. He had tried everything—spiced roots, fertility herbs from the palace medicine woman, and even late-night rituals performed by the native priest. Still… nothing.Alexander rose from the bed, pacing the cold marble floor with heavy feet. A fire burned in the hearth, but it did little to tha

The soft scent of brewed coffee and toasted bread teased her nose. A smile curled on her lips. He’s in the kitchen again.Throwing on a light robe, she padded down the hallway and into the warm, open space where Gabriel stood shirtless, wearing joggers and flipping pancakes with an exaggerated chef’s flair.“You’re going to burn them,” Lydia teased, leaning against the doorframe.Gabriel turned, spatula in hand, and grinned. “And good morning to my beautiful wife.”She walked up to him, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind. “Good morning, chef husband.”He kissed the top of her head, then plated a stack of fluffy pancakes. “I thought we could eat on the balcony today. The early morning sun filtered through the intricate lattice windows of the palace, casting golden shapes across the polished floors. Drums beat faintly in the distance, signaling the dawn of a new day—and a new queen.Chisom sat quietly on the edge of a carved mahogany bed, her feet barely touching the polished ground. Around her, the royal maids fluttered like bees, tying her hair into delicate loops, rubbing her arms with perfumed oil, and whispering instructions she barely absorbed.“Your new robe, my queen,” one of the maids said, presenting a cloth woven with silver threads and royal blue patterns. “You must wear it before you greet the king.”Chisom nodded faintly, still unsure how to wear the title of "queen" in her heart. The palace air was thick—not just with incense, but with the weight of expectation. She could feel it in the walls, in the eyes of the elders who measured her with unspoken judgment, and in the stiff bow of the guards who had served another before her.As sh

The palace air brimmed with anticipation, thick like a brewing storm. Inside the grand hall, the scent of burning incense drifted from gold-plated bowls, curling in the air like whispers from the ancestors. Soft drums echoed in the background, played by two palace boys, steady and ceremonial. The marble floors had been scrubbed to glass-like shine, reflecting the rows of candles burning along the corridor.Alexander sat on the throne, robed in deep crimson, his royal crown resting heavy on his head. His face was unreadable—a mask of calm, yet behind his eyes, something stirred. Pain. Memory. Resignation. This was not how he envisioned choosing a queen.Beside him, a guard stood silently, holding a scroll with the names of the maidens. The chamberlain motioned, and the doors opened. One by one, the virgins began to enter. The first maiden, Awele, stepped forward with her head lowered, her feet bare, anklets chiming with each timid step. She was beautiful—smooth dark skin, full lips, an

The sky above the palace bled into a melancholic gray, the sun hiding behind thick clouds as though mourning with the king. The royal garden, once Daniela’s favorite place, stood untended. Wildflowers grew in stubborn defiance through cracks in the once manicured paths. The scent of blooming hibiscus clashed with the scent of time—that old, dusty silence that lingered in places where laughter had died.King Alexander stood still on the palace balcony, arms crossed behind his back, cloaked in heavy velvet. He wasn't the same man he was two years ago. The weight of loss had carved lines into his once-youthful face. His shoulders drooped beneath invisible burdens. Power still clothed him, yes, but it no longer fitted him like pride—it clung to him like grief. His eyes scanned the horizon—the same trail Daniela had once fled down with the child. The same trail the guards had failed to watch. His jaw clenched at the memory.Every now and then, he imagined seeing her figure walking back, ch

The evening of the engagement party felt like a dream to Lydia. The grand ballroom was bathed in warm, golden light. Crystal chandeliers hung high above, their glimmering reflections dancing across the polished marble floor. The walls were adorned with intricate tapestries, depicting stories of love, fortune, and legacy. Every corner of the room was carefully designed to evoke luxury, but it was the people who made it truly come alive.Guests murmured and laughed in soft clusters, champagne glasses clinking as they raised their toasts to Gabriel and Lydia. They had all come from different walks of life—wealthy socialites, business moguls, close friends of the family. But tonight, there was one thing that united them all: the promise of the future, the joining of two lives. Gabriel stood at the center of it all, a striking figure in a tailored suit, his posture confident but warm as he greeted guests. He was the picture of a man who had everything under control. But as his eyes scanned

Lydia sat on the sofa, her bare feet tucked under her as she scrolled through a wedding magazine, lost in thought. The room was filled with the rich scent of freshly brewed coffee, and the faint hum of the city outside only added to the quiet peace of the moment.Gabriel had just stepped out of the shower, a towel draped low on his hips, his hair still damp. He smiled as he saw her lost in the magazine, the occasional flutter of the page drawing her attention. It was one of those simple, perfect moments that made him feel like everything he’d ever wanted was right here.“You look like you’re plotting world domination,” Gabriel teased, stepping into the kitchen, his voice a warm caress.Lydia glanced up from the pages, offering him a playful scowl. “I’m plotting the perfect wedding, thank you very much. When the priest finally arrived, the guards ushered him in with reverence. The old man’s steps were slow, but his presence demanded respect. His hair, thick and snowy white, spilled down to his shoulders like ancestral feathers. His robe, dyed deep maroon with sacred herbs, carried the scent of ancient incense. He bowed slightly, then looked up. His eyes—milky but sharp—settled on Alexander’s face. “You sent for me, Your Highness?”Alexander gestured toward a mat. “Sit.
