Chapter 1:The confrontation

Daniela stood  in the grand lobby of a   four-star hotel, the air thick with the scent of wealth and  exclusivity. Marble  floors gleamed beneath Crystal chandeliers, reflecting a world she had once dreamed of but had long since left behind . Her fingers trembled as she clung a folder with the DNA test results that showed proof of the truth she had kept hidden all these years . She wasn't here to admire the  opulence, nor was she the same woman who had once been captivated, then cast aside by a billionaire.

Today, she  was here to confront Alexander  Dane. She had rehearsed  this  moment  countless times in  her mind, but  nothing prepared her for the sight of him stepping into the room. Alexander  Dane . The man she once loved , who single handedly tore her family apart with a ruthless business  takeover. She hadn't seen  him in five years, he knew nothing  about her or her whereabouts . Yet ,he looked  exactly  as she remembered, lean and tall ,dressed in a dark, tailored  suit  that was more  expensive than her house  rent. He stood  near the beautifully  decorated  ceiling  windows, staring at the city he owned with one hand resting  in his pocket, while  the other  scrolled  confidently across his phone. His posture was relaxed, but his gaze was sharp as ever. When he looked up and met her eyes,it felt like  a shift  in gravity, his focus heavy and piercing.

The air  thickened as their eyes met, and  Daniela's  heart pounded  in her chest. She hadn't  expected him to  recognise  her after all this time. Back then, She had been a “ Nobody”, just a small town girl caught in a fleeting affair with a man who had moved on without a second choice.  Memories  of  Alexander- both tender and painful flooded back. He had  once been her everything, the man who noticed her when she felt invisible, who made her feel desired  and cherished and showed her what love  was like. But behind his kindness was a  ruthless  ambition that didn't  care about  the cost.  Back then,Daniela had  been so naive, just a young  woman with dreams of making  something meaningful  for herself . She fell in love with  Alexander's charisma and  warmth, only to realise too late that his world was built on something darker - A brutal  business  empire that thrived on swallowing up smaller, struggling companies . She  had not fully understood it until he set his sights  on her family's business. His  evil deeds hadn't  just been ruthless; they  had been  personal. It was her father's business that Alexander had targeted when expanding into new markets.Despite  her family's  effort  to fight back,Dane industries   swept in like a  predator  , dismantling  everything her father had spent his life building, leaving nothing  behind. The most devastating  part ?

Daniela hadn't known about the plan until it was all over. She trusted Alexander  with her whole hearts that even as whispunaware about  the plan until it was over. She had  put so much trust in Alexander that even as the whispers in her family  grew louder  she was confused about  the  whole  situation.  Until one after the other, the truth began to  reveal , the contracts, the aggressive acquisitions  and the breach her father's  company couldn't defend itself against. Alexander's plan was never to protect  her or  family ; he had seen them as another stepping  stone to greater power.

As if that was not enough, her family  had been left broken and her father's health was deteriorating under the pain of loss and betrayal. And  Daniela, caught between the  man she loved and the family  she adored , had felt her heart split. She pleaded with  Alexander to reconsider his decision, but he had simply looked at her, his face not showing  any remorse.” It's  just business,Daniela “. Those words cut deeper into her than she could ever express, a realization that the man she had once cherished was capable of separating his emotions  from his actions  completely. She had left him that night, heartbroken and disillusioned, walking away from a future she had once thought would include him. The painof that betrayal  had stayed with her haunting  her daily life and reshaping the way she saw the  world.  But there was something she hasn't told him after their separation , something  she was very frightened to say. She had found out  she was pregnant with Alexander’s child.           Out of sorrow, she raised the baby alone , vowing that her son would  never know  the legacy of  cold ambition that had devastated her family.  David ha grown up  asking for his father . For five years ,she had protected  him from his father's  world ,but the truth had finally  caught  up with her.  David was asking about his father more often, and she couldn't  ignore him anymore,no matter how much she wanted  to.

And now, here  she was, about to confront the man who had destroyed her family’s legacy.  She walked toward him, her steps steady, but  her courage faltering beneath the surface.  Her fingers burned from clutching the envelope so tightly, her words carefully rehearsed but fragile on her tongue.

“ Mr Dane”,she began, her voice steady  but laced with a  tension she struggled to  keep in check.Alexander  looked  at her, reluctant , a flicker of curiosity in his gaze as he wondered what had brought her here. “ Daniela”, he replied smoothly, as if they were business  associates discussing  a contract rather than  former lovers tangled in the bitterness of the past. “ it's  been a while”.“ Not  long enough  for you to  forget”, She replied, her tone sharper than intended.  A flicker  of surprise crossed his face , vanishing as quickly  as it had come , replaced  by a calm , unreadable  expression . His gaze shifted to  the envelope clutched  tightly in her hand. ”You’ve come a long  way just to remind me”, he said. She took a  steady ing breath ,  determined to keep  her anger in check. This isn't a reminder”, she said,  lifting  the  envelope  slightly .” it's  something I  should have told you years ago”. She watched his expression harden, tension tightening his jaw. But before he could  respond , the sound  of footsteps echoed across the marble  floor behind  her.   Daniela  turned, and her stomach twisting as she recognised  the man approaching.

It was Alexander's   younger brother, Richard  Dane-  A cunning  man known for digging into  people's  past and  wielding that information to his advantage.  His  dark eyes gleamed with a dangerous glint as he approached .something  dangerous as he approached.  “ Daniela peter”, he  greeted, his  tone laced with mockery .” Of all places…” Daniela  forced herself to  stand tall , but she could feel the cracks forming in her composure. She knew what Richard was capable of, he had always been a shadow in Alexander's life, a man who let nothing  escape  his control. If he was here,it was no  coincidence. “I   didn't  realize this was a family  affair’,she said, her voice steady but strained as her gaze flickered between  Richard and Alexander.Richard let out a low, mocking laugh that  echoed through the room. “ Oh , but in the Dane family”, he said, his eyes glinting as they darted to the envelope in her hand, “ Secrets are  always family business “.

Alexander's gaze  darkened as he looked between his brother and  Daniela, something  unreadable flickering in his expression .” What's going on  here?”he asked, his voice  low and tense.Daniela's  throat  felt dry as she struggled to find her voice, summoning the courage to speak. “This  isn't about  you, Richard”,she managed , holding Alexander's gaze.” it's  between  Alexander and me”.   Richard  stepped  closer,a calculated  gleam in his eyes.”Oh,I think its very much my business”,he said smoothly , his stare cutting into her like a scalpel. “You see, Alexander  has a lot at stake . We both do”.   Daniela  felt her words crumble, the weight of her  secrets pressing down on her, forcing her to confront the truth she’d buried for so long. She had come here to face one man,to reveal something she had held onto in silence, but now she found herself ensnared in a web of power and manipulation  that extended far beyond what she’d anticipated.

Turning  back to  Alexander,She met his  eyes, her resolve  steady .” Five years ago”, She began, her voice low but unwavering , “ You walked out of  my life without a second thought .  But you left something  behind”. Alexander's eyes flickered , a spark of  confusion crossing  his face, quickly  replaced by  a look of guarded suspicion. “ What  are you talking about?” . Daniela took a  steadying breath, allowing  the silence to  stretch painfully between them.  Finally, she uttered the  words that would  change  everything .” You have a son,Alexander”.

The silence in the room was suffocating, thick with unspoken questions and tensions. The air between them seemed charged, every second stretching into an eternity as Alexander stared at her,his mind working overtime to process her revelation . Daniela's chest tightened under his penetrating gaze, and goosebumps prickled her arms despite the heat of her anger.“ But how?” he finally managed, his voice rough, strained.” We used protection that night. How could this child ….. How is he mine?” Her knuckles turned white as the weight of the moment bore down on her. She could see the storm brewing in her eyes- confusion, denial , and something else she couldn't quite place. A part of her wanted to lash out at him for questioning her, for doubting the existence of their child. But she knew it was pointless. She had her share of guilt to bear for keeping the truth from him all these years. Taking a step closer, she steadied herself, her voice soft but firm.“ The child is yours ,

Daniela stood by the window, her fingers trembling as she gently drew back the curtain . Her gaze fell to the street below , and her heart skipped a beat when she saw a black car pulling up to the gate of her house. Anxiety gripped her chest as she glanced through the glass. When she recognised who it was, her stomach twisted. Alexander . She wished, in that moment , that the meeting could be called off but it was far too late. He was already here. She turned to glance at Noah, who sat cross- legged on the living room floor, humming softly as he played with his toys. The sight of his innocent joy only made Daniela's thoughts spiral further. How would Noah react to Alexander?Would Alexander truly care for his son, or was this meeting just a way to ease his guilt? Her chest tightened as she placed a hand over her heart, willing it to slow down. The doorbell rang, snapping her out of her thoughts. She moved toward the door, her heels clicking softly agains

The door closed behind Alexander with a click, but Daniela couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong somewhere. The quietness that followed was unnecessarily odd, filling the room with suffocating silence. She stood by the window, her fingers pressed to the cool glass, her breath heaving heavily as she watched Alexander black car disappear into the night. The streets were empty and the glow of streetlights cast long shadows across the road. Yet, inside her chest, her heart was sounding loudly- out of rhythm. Something about this night felt wrong,as if the weight of the past had just shifted. The key chain that had glinted in the moonlight near the gate kept flashing in her mind. She couldn't help but replay the moment it had caught in her eye, as if it had been waiting there for her to find it. Her heart sank as memories she had long time buried began to surface.A time where everything had seemed so much simpler , and she didnt have to live in constan

Daniela stood in the luxurious living room of Alexander's mansion, her arms tightly crossed, her knuckles white from the tension. The silence in the room was deafening, suffocating her with unspoken words.Alexander moved with the pride he possessed,as he reached for something on the nearby table. When he turned, Daniela's eyes immediately caught the gleaming object in his hand- A small velvet box.The sight of it sent shivers down her spine.A mixture of dread and disbelief swirling in her chest. Her breath hitched as she instinctively took a step back. Her voice, thick with suspicion, broke the tense silence “ What is that, Alexander?”He ignored her, his gaze steady but distant, as if he hadn't held her. Instead, he held the box loosely between his fingers , as though it carried the weight of everything left unsaid between them. Daniel's heart pounded as she pointed at the box, her mind racing with possibilities .“ If you think–----” She stopped herself, swallowing th

Daniela sat in the small living room of her family house , the space that once brought her comfort now feeling unbearably suffocating. Her fingers twisted the hem of her cardigan, a nervous habit she had since childhood. Across from her,her parents sat on the old floral couch, their eyes fixed on her with mounting curiosity. Her father, Robert, leaned forward , his elbows resting on his knees as his eyes narrowed with suspicion. “ You've been quiet since you walked in, Daniela”,he said in a quiet and low tone. “ What's on your mind Daniela?” Daniela opened her mouth to respond but the words caught in her throat. How could she explain what had transpired without remembering the pain Alexander caused her. She drew in a shaky breath, trying to answer her Dad's question.“ It's about Alexander”, She finally said , her voice soft but clear. The name fell like a prohibition in the room. Daniela stared at her reflection in the mirror of her childhood bedroom, her hands trembling as she smoothed down the wrinkles in her blouse. The room, once her shield, now felt like a prison to her. She had made up her mind already that she was going to be with Alexander. After all, She was old enough to make decisions on her own, but she was also scared of the confrontation waiting for her in the living room .Her parents murmured voices oozing through the walls, their tones a mixture of frustration and concern. Daniela took a deep breath, thinking about her life. She is not going to let anyone dictate her life for her, not even her parents. “ This is for Noah,” She whispered to herself , her voice shaky but determined. As she entered the living room, the familiar scent of air freshener was all over the living room. Daniela's heart pounded as she parked in front of Alexander's sprawling estate. The weight of her parents' rejection still pressed heavily on her chest, and the sight of the massive house amplified her anger. The grandeur of the mansion felt suffocating, a reminder of the choice that had cost her everything. Holding Noah's hand, she leaned down and whispered, her voice trembling , “ Stay close to me , baby,” She kissed the top of his head, drawing strength from his innocence. Gabriel sat in the dimly lit living room, staring blankly at the wall. The silence of the house was suffocating, pressing against his chest like a heavy weight. The absence of Daniela felt like a gaping hole in his life, one that he never imagined would exist.Just days ago, this house was filled with warmth, laughter, and the familiar presence of the woman he loved. Now, it was just an empty space—lifeless, cold, and unbearably quiet. He let out a long, shaky breath as he ran a hand through his disheveled hair. His eyes, bloodshot from lack of sleep, flickered toward the half-empty bottle of whiskey on the table. He had never been much of a drinker, but tonight, the burn of alcohol seemed like the only thing keeping him grounded."Why, Daniela?" he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "Why did you do this to me?"The pain in his chest tightened as memories of her flooded his mind. The way she used to smile at him, the way she would rest her head on his shoulder after a long da

All that mattered was that she was here with him, and soon, she would be crowned as his queen. The journey had been long, winding through dusty roads and dense forests, but finally, they reached the grand palace at the heart of the village. The wrumpled note in his trembling hands felt heavier than it should, as if it carried the weight of all the emotions swirling inside him. Please don’t look for me.His throat left him and before he knew it, hot tears welled up in his eyes. His hands trembled as he wiped his face, but the tears kept coming. After everything they had been through, after everything he had done for her?He staggered backward, dragging a hand through his hair in frustration. His mind reeled with unanswered questions. A strange sense of unease crept up his spine.Maybe she had gone to the bathroom? He swung his legs off the bed, planting his feet on the cold tiles before standing up. He walked toward the bathroom door and knocked lightly.“Dani?”Silence.His chest tightened as he pushed the door open, only to find the bathroom empty. The sun hung lazily in the sky, casting soft golden hues through the curtains of Daniela’s cozy apartment. The room was quiet, except for the faint hum of the air conditioner and the occasional chirping of birds outside. It was her day off from work, and she had planned to rest, maybe even do some cleaning, but she hadn’t expected a visitor. And certainly not him.Alexander stood at her doorstep, his usual confident smile in place, holding a neatly arranged gift bag. Daniela's brows furrowed in mild surprise. She hadn’t seen or spoken to him in weeks. She had moved on—at least, she thought she had.Still, curiosity got the better of her."What are you doing here?" she asked, crossing her arms.Alexander let out a small chuckle, his deep voice smooth. Alexander sat in his lavishly furnished bedroom, the golden chandelier above casting a dim glow over the space. The air was thick with the scent of expensive cologne and faint traces of burning incense—remnants of the chief priest’s visit from the previous day.On the polished mahogany table in front of him lay a small, dark vial.He picked it up, rolling it between his fingers. The chief priest had promised him that this would change everything. One drop of the sacred potion, and Daniela would no longer resist him. She would no longer see Gabriel. She would no longer refuse his love."Daniela, you will be mine again. You don’t have a choice."The thought sent a wicked thrill through him.He leaned back in his leather chair, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the armrest. Now, she was engaged to another man, willingly giving herself to someone who wasn’t him. That knowledge burned through his veins. No matter what, she would be his.A sharp knock on the door jolted him from his thoughts. The night was heavy with silence, broken only by the rhythmic ticking of the antique clock in Alexander’s dimly lit bedroom. He sat at the edge of his king-sized bed, gripping his phone tightly in his hand. The soft glow of the screen illuminated his face, revealing the storm brewing in his dark eyes. His mind was restless, tormented by the memories of Daniela—her smile, her laughter, the way she used to look at him with trust in her eyes. But now, all of that was gone. She had moved on. With another man.His jaw clenched as he thought about Gabriel. The name alone sent a wave of anger through him. How dare he? How dare Gabriel take what was his? Daniela belonged to him. It had always been him and Daniela—until she walked away.He let out a slow, ragged breath, scrolling through his messages. The last one he had sent her had gone unanswered.
