Chapter 55

The news spread like wildfire around the firm on Monday. Evelyn Warner had placed her resignation letter on her table early in the morning just as the other associates arrived and left without another word.

It came as a shock and a blow to the community, no one leaves such a prestigious firm in such a manner without a forewarning whatsoever. She came in as quickly and took the firm by storm as she left, the buzz was too juicy and no one focused on their jobs– instead they formed little circles of their own trying to come up with theories as to why Evelyn Warner quit out of the blue.

“I heard she was going back to study for a phd”. One of the associates said.

“I heard she’s pregnant and quit to raise the baby”. Another added.

“I heard she was fired for negligence”. Gretchen tried to fill her own fake rumor in but no one believed her, Evelyn was too important to the firm to be fired on such a whim.
