Chapter 66

As I watched Jen from Aunt May’s front porch, a smile crept up on my face. My life, as she had predicted, was slowly falling back into place and I had her to thank. It was beautiful to think that my little sister had grown to be such a wise woman, my source of hope when my own was failing.

She was on her phone, standing miles away from Aunt May and me, her body swaying while her face flushed with different emotions that were somewhat familiar but still, I could not place.

“Oh, look at that young girl. She thinks we can’t tell that she is on a love call with her boyfriend,” Aunt May spoke, breaking my stare at the not-so-little-girl at the corner.

Aha! Yes. A call with her boyfriend. That explains it.

“Wait, how do you –“ I interjected my own thoughts, amusement vivid on my face as I turned to look at Aunt May. A rainbow of colored yarn sat on her thighs as she skillfully crocheted another colorful blanket, her eyes never leaving the needle as she spoke.
