"You arrogant, entitled jerk!" she spat. "You think you can treat people however you want, just because you have money and power? Well, you're wrong. I won't stand for it, and neither should anyone else."
With that, Emily turned and walked away, her head held high. She knew that what she had done was risky and foolish, but at that moment, she didn't care. She refused to let Mr. Gabriel or anyone else make her feel small and insignificant.
“This isn’t over, Emily.” He growled, silently vowing to hunt her down and make her life a living hell.
Emily, still shaken from the incident with Mr. Gabriel, sat down by the sidewalk her shoulders hunched in frustration. She couldn’t believe she slapped one of the most influential man in Boston. She just had to lose her job tonight of all nights. The thought of her piling bills, her mother’s surgery and her job or lack of was just too much to handle.
Screaming in frustration with tears streaming down her face, strangers cast her strange glances but she didn’t care. Just then, the sky darkened and heavy fat drops of rain fell on her, drenching her in the process. Oh great. As if her night couldn’t get any worse.
She took the subway back home, shivering all through the ride.
Things turned out sour when she got home and realized that all her belongings has been moved out of her apartment and left to drench in the heavy storm. She was devastated, crying and sobbing at the top of her voice, her mind was on suicide and she decided to end it all at a nearby river.
She was shrouded in sorrow as she dragged her luggage, shivering violently because of the night air. She didn’t realize she’d left the side walk until an angry driver screamed at her. She didn’t care. With nowhere to go, she had the half mind of walking into a speeding car or better yet jumping from the bridge.
She found herself in front of the bridge, contemplating her choices. If the universe didn’t send something good her way, she was going to end it. She freed her long hair and got rid of her wet jacket. Slowly, she climbed the railings of the bridge, her heart in her throat. The thought of not being able to provide for her mum too hard to bear.
She stumbled slightly and held the railing for her dear life. She was going to end it here.
After taking a hard breathe, she let go of her hand.
BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ
She let go of her hand to reach her phone. It was Olivia Specter, the woman offering the position for a housemaid. She invited to her house to start work immediately. This was a sign from the universe she was definitely going to take.
The taxi that took Emily stopped in front of a very luxurious Victorian-style mansion. After paying the taxi meter, with a little hesitation Emily dragged her black suitcase towards the house. She pressed the bell twice, then waited.
Soon a beautiful face appeared on the screen.
"Who are you looking for?" asked the woman curtly.
Emily smiled. "I'm Emily Clark, I've spoken to Mrs. Specter on the phone before," she replied politely.
The woman's expression changed instantly, she smiled very kindly.
"Emily! I've been waiting for you for a long time! Come in!" cried the blonde haired woman. One second later, the gate of the mansion was wide open. With a happy heart, Emily stepped into the area of the house that looked very quiet.
Emily gulped, how could she possibly be able to clean every corner of this house by herself? When the main door opened, Emily was even more surprised to find several housemaids doing their jobs. If the Specter family had this many servants, why would they want to hire a new employee for such a high fee? Emily began to feel strange.
"You are Emily Clark?" a middle-aged maidservant greeted her expressionlessly. Emily nodded her head.
"Follow me," said the maid as she walked straight ahead of Emily, behind her she followed awkwardly.
"This is your room.” They stopped in front of a white door, "I'm Dorothy, keep your things inside your room and meet Mrs. Specter immediately, I'll be waiting here," said Dorothy, still expressionless.
In confusion, Emily moved the doorknob in front of her. She was very surprised when she saw the luxurious room which turned out to be the room she was going to occupy.
She stepped inside, and touched the dresser in amazement, why did the Specters treat her this well? This was weird and didn't make any sense. The voice of Dorothy clearing her throat outside startled Emily, she quickly put her suitcase in front of the cupboard and half ran over to Dorothy.
Without saying a word, Dorothy walked in front of Emily, towards Olivia Specter's room, the wife of the owner of the house.
Emily's eyes couldn’t separate from all the luxurious furniture and high artistic value that she passed, it felt like she wanted to have it all. In front of a gold-handled door, Dorothy stopped and knocked once.
"Come in!" said a voice that was the same as the voice of the woman who had greeted Emily on the screen earlier. Dorothy opened the door and told Emily to come in, after she went inside, Dorothy nodded politely and left the room, leaving Emily standing awkwardly in front of the beautiful woman with a mysterious face in front of her.
"Hi Emily, I'm Olivia Specter, the person you spoke to on the phone the other day, please have a seat," Olivia waved her finger that was clamping the smoking pipe, motioning for Emily to sit down.
"Thank you," said Emily politely, pulling up a chair in front of Olivia and sitting stiffly on it. Tapping her feet to the tic of the clock, she looked at Olivia expectantly.
"Anything you want to ask?" Olivia said after blowing smoke from her mouth.
Emily cleared her throat, "Umm I still don't fully understand my job description as a housemaid," Emily said a little nervously.
Olivia chuckled, she waved her hand while holding the smoking pipe, "Of course you don't understand, because I was just about to explain!" she said cheerfully, making Emily feel uncomfortable.
"I heard you need some money for your mother's surgery," Olivia mumbled casually.
Emily nodded, "Yes ma'am," replied a little sad because she suddenly remembered her mother.
"I'm offering you much more money than what I wrote on the internet, here's the amount," Olivia handed Emily an unsigned one million dollar check.
Emily glanced at the check and then gulped in surprise at the amount. "You can't pay me that much just for my job as a housemaid," Emily ventured to argue.
Olivia nodded, "That's right! Because I didn't pay you for that," Olivia's answer made Emily shocked. Suddenly fear took over her mind.
"What do you want from me?" squeaked Emily in a trembling voice. Olivia stubbed out her cigarette, got up from her swivel chair then walked over to Emily.
"I want your womb," Olivia whispered into Emily's ear.
Emily gasped in shock, fear overturning her belly.Emily bit her lip, "As I thought, you deliberately set me up because you want my organs right?" cried Emily frantically.Olivia chuckled, "That's not what I meant..." she muttered impatiently. Emily tilted her head, choosing not to answer."My husband and I have been married for almost three years, but I’ve failed to give him a child because of my infertility," Olivia returned to her seat, glaring at Emily intently."I want you to carry my husband’s child.” The words that came out of Olivia's mouth made Emily squint in disbelief."What do you mean?!" Emily asked nervously."I mean exactly what I said. I want you to have sex with my husband until you get pregnant!"Emily froze in her seat, 'WHAT THE HECK?'"You're kidding, aren't you?"Emily forced herself to laugh, she knew Olivia Specter was just messing with her. But Olivia's face became more serious than before, "I'm not joking at all, your mother's life is in your hands, decide n
For the second time that night, Emily’s breathe caught in her throat. All color washed from her face as Gabriel Specter, the man who had caused her so much pain stepped out of the shadows, suddenly standing in front of her with paint splattered hands. "G-good evening-g Mr. Specter," Emily hiccupped. She tried to stop herself from sounding anxious but it was almost impossible. Gabriel gestured, not answering. She gazed upward to try understand that it was the same Gabriel who embarrassed her previously. She felt thescorn bubbling up inside her. “You’ll refer to me as master from now on.” He said, clicking his tongue in disapproval.Emily didn’t know how to start. With an apology or more insults? Logic became fantasy. She couldn’t bring herself to apologize for slapping him, but she knew that she needed the money desperately. She told herself to get a grip, her mother’s life was far more precious than her pride. She decided to break the silence. “Mr. Specter, sorry Master-” He raised
With nervousness, Emily immediately put on her dress and walked quickly to the door."You did it!" Olivia shrieked cheerfully. Emily just grimaced, of course, Olivia knew everything, and she must have been watching Emily and Gabriel through surveillance cameras."Go back to your room, starting from now, you can't drink alcohol or indulge in drugs. Only eat nutritious food," Olivia said very kindly. Emily nodded, she looked at Olivia confused, how could someone want a baby so much that she was willing to see her husband making love to another woman? "Then, excuse me," Emily said politely, with her head bowed as she walked away from Olivia. At the bottom of the marble stairs, Dorothy was waiting for her. "You're awake?" said Emily, somewhat surprised."I have to make sure you go to bed on time and take your suppliments," Dorothy replied flatly. Emily took a deep breath and followed Dorothy's broad steps in front of her."Are you going to stay here and wait for me to finish showering
"The spinal cord surgery must be done immediately, otherwise your mother won’t make it."The words from the doctor sounded like thunder to Emily, she fiddled with her fingers nervously. How could she possibly get money for her mother's surgery, when she currently has no money at all? "Okay, I'll do my best to raise the money for the surgery," said Emily, even though she hadn't actually found the right way to get the money. The bank loan she applied for would obviously be refused. She grimly dragged her feet back to the restaurant where she worked part-time. "Hi Em, how’s your mom?" asked Nancy, Emily's fellow waitress."She's getting a little better, but the doctor said she has to undergo surgery right away, you know it costs a lot. I really need the money, Oh my God maybe I have to sell my kidney!" Emily covered her face with her hands. Hopeless. "Selling a kidney? Who wants to sell a kidney?" Suddenly, Jacob, the restaurant manager appeared. Nancy answered and told Jacob abo
