Adam's POV
"Sir?"
I glanced up from the document I was reading to see my secretary standing at the door. I hadn't heard her open the door with my head all buried in the mountain of paperwork I had to go through. I was so close to hightailing out of the office and running all the way back to France.
But business called. And I couldn't ignore my responsibilities forever.
"Yes, Lillian?"
My voice came out gruff with disuse. It was almost eleven that morning and I hadn't spoken a word to anyone since I had stepped into the office. Not that there was much talking to do.
"Someone booked an appointment with you," She replied with a grin. Lillian was a woman in her mid thirties, with the most pleasant smile when she felt rather happy and the deadliest gla
Adam’s POVI must have stood there for a long while, staring off into space, reimagining everything all over again. Eve. My blue-eyed pet. She was here in New York, here with me.Within my reach. I almost gave in to the urge to throw my fist in the air like a green boy. Like some twelve-year-old who managed to say a few words to his crush. It bothered the hell out of me.My hands curled, tingling from when I had held her earlier. Touching her reminded me of France. Her skin had felt the same. Soft and satiny smooth, burning under my touch. Fuck, I had missed her.All of her. Her scent lingered faintly in the air, teasing my mind, bringing up memories, and visions that had plagued me about that night.I wanted to relive those moments with her again. If it were left to me, if that chauffeur hadn’t interrupted us, if I didn’t have my sister in the car,
ADAM’S POV“Adam!” My mother snapped, rising to her feet. Her green eyes glared daggers at me, threatening to pulverize me to the ground.I turned to face her, trying to control the rage that brewed within me. “What is she doing here, Mother?”“I invited her,” She said plainly as if that explained everything. She turned to the bitch in question who smiled coyly.“Now come on Adam, This is no way to treat your fiancée,”“Ex-Fiance!” Anabelle hissed, stepping before me. “I don’t know how you managed to get into our house, but you are not welcome here!”“Anabelle, stop it!” Mother cautioned. “Aren't you both listening to me? I said I invited her!”“And why on earth would you do that, Mother?!” I yelled, unable to kee
Eve's POVI stirred the soup, watching the bubbles pop as it boiled. They were hypnotic, drawing me in. I watched them froth over on the pot and found my mind wandering to the one man I shouldn't be thinking about.Golden.I could not think about anything else aside from him ever since we met in front of the hospital. It had been a surprise. A very very pleasant surprise. To think that the man of my dreams, the one man who made me feel pleasure beyond my wildest imagination was right here in New York with me. The thought thrilled me.It drove me giddy with desire and happiness and even though I knew it was hopeless because Tom had me watched constantly, I dreamt about him anyway.Dreams were all I had left.Oh, I could see him all over again in my mind's eye.His golde
Adam's POVI was exhausted as hell. That had to be an understatement. Ah yes, it was. My back was sore from the numerous meetings I had to sit through that day. It was no easy feat raising a company from the rubble. But somehow, it seemed even harder trying to maintain it.The urge to take another vacation grew but I stomped on it mentally as hard as I could. No more vacations. For now at least. I had to ensure that my projects were going as well as I had planned and that all my work in the past few days would not be in vain. But for that to happen? I was going to work myself to the bone.I climbed down the steps that led away from my company. A car pulled up before me just as I reached the last step and a man in a black suit stepped out to retrieve my briefcase.
EVE'S POVI watched the people around me nervously, hoping Tom hadn't seen what had happened on the dance floor. It was risky and stupid. I knew that. But the minute Golden's hands touched mine, No, before that. I had thrown caution to the wind way before that. It was when I had felt his presence. He had approached quietly, I hadn't heard his steps. But then that was probably because I was too close to the band and they were quite loud.Tom had left me all of five minutes after we arrived at the ball. He had paraded me around the place for a while, introducing me to his business partners, and then left me on my own. He had to meet with the partners to discuss formalities and sign a contract of some sort.At least that was what he told me.If anyone asked me, I didn't understand why
Adam's POVI helped Eve off the floor, feeling every part of my body tighten in anticipation. It had felt like a dream come true when she walked in through that door. I had feared she would not show up.And fuck when she did, all semblance of control fizzled out of my body like the damned wind. I had wanted nothing more than to devour her. It had taken a lot of control not to take her right there and then against the door.Hell the urge was still there, but she would be too sore to walk down the stairs if I did that. I led her to the bed, trying not to cave into the trembling that had taken hold of my legs. My climax had come suddenly and with a lot of force. I hadn't expected the last move she pulled on me. It had set me off and fuck it had been intense.Lowering her to the bed, I watched as she sat on it, the slit on her dress shifting aside
TOM’S POVMaxwell rolled the pen between his thumb and forefinger, staring at the contract in his hands as if it was calculus or something complicated. Sweat beaded his forehead as he read through the document. I would bet he couldn’t understand a single word in that document. That was what made Maxwell Ford an easy prey.I just wished he wouldn’t waste my time instead.I sighed against the sofa I sat on, making sure to keep a placid smile on my face. I couldn’t give off the impression that the fat ass sitting directly across me irritated the shit out of me. I had gotten the Maxwell contract with a very particular quality I had in abundance. Persistence.Yeah, I knew I was damned persistent.A buddy of mine had informed me that Maxwell was looking for a partner in building ballrooms in Manhattan. The robust man was New York’s number-one event organiz
Eve's POVI was sure I looked like a mess. I didn't need a mirror to confirm that, but I needed a mirror to readjust everything. My dress felt lopsided. My hair was ruffled. I was certain of that. Adam had pulled and yanked at the strands so many times for them to remain the same.I shuddered at the thought as I made my way down the corridor, trying to even my breathing. There wasn't a soul in sight. Everyone was in the ballroom. The music grew louder as I drew closer to the stairs. I could picture everyone dancing, and giggling as they talked, unaware of what had just happened right under their very noses.Tom would have a fit. I could only hope that his meeting had spanned longer. What the hell was wrong with me? Why had I followed Golden- Adam, in the first place?! It was downright dangerous. If Tom found out, I was doomed.I would be stu
