Chapter 97

"Sometimes, I think I hate you." Mary declared, and Nicholas was mute for a moment, his ears ringing from the confession. If she hated him, does that mean she was going to leave?

If she decided to leave him, he was going to have to grant it to her because he couldn’t hold her here without her consent. That was the least he could do after everything he had done to her.

"But I can’t because I love you." Mary said, and Nicholas whipped up his head so fast, thinking he had misheard it. At least there was still hope for him.

"I’m truly sorry for the way I treated you, Mary. It was no one's fault but mine, and I know that now. But I am ready to make this right; please give me a chance." Nicholas pleaded, his voice sounding sincere.

Mary looked up at him, the sincerity shining in his eyes, or that was what she wanted to see. In her heart, she prayed that Nicholas was being truthful.
