The behavior with Nicholas continued for so long that it became the norm in the mansion. Mary became invincible to him whenever Cole was around, and she carried on like it didn’t hurt her, trying to blend in with the furniture.

It was like she was living with a roommate again, only it was worse this time because staying with Amy wasn’t this bad.

Mary had tried to excuse his behavior on the basis that he was busy at work and just wanted to come home to relax and didn’t want any disturbance, and she was sure to give him just that.
