Heather's POV
Although Alexander couldn't properly walk yet, modeling agencies had already begun to call and harass him for jobs again. He hadn't accepted any yet, but I was sure it wouldn't be long before he did so. He could walk up and down the stairs now without any problems, and could jug for short amounts of time. He wasn't back to full health, but it was clear that he was making great improvements. Although Alexander was happy that he was getting deals after everything that had happened, we still had no idea how news of his surgery had gotten out to the public. It was in front of every newspaper and big magazine, and his phone wouldn't stop buzzing from all the girls and companies trying to reach out to him. At first we had thought Dr Harrington was the snitch, but Alexander figured it was either his father or Mathew who had pulled this stunt. Although all the attention was a bit sickening, I was happy for Alexander most of the time. We might not be couples at the moment, but it was nice seeing him wake up with a smile every morning. Currently, I was his maid, a role I didn't quite imagine I would play as Alexander Forger's wife. But Alexander had explained the need for this. He was afraid that Mathew might come after him, and if that should happen, he wanted me to be out of the matter. I understood his reasons for concern, and had taken up the role without much complaints. I was going to be his maid during the day, and at night, I would play the role of his wife. To make the act believable, Alexander treated me no differently than the other workers in the house. He paid me the same amount he paid the others, and treated me the same way he did them. "Your tea is ready sir." I informed as I lowered the tray onto the table in front of me. He had a guest, the first one in a week. And unlike the others, this one was a female. With just one glance at her, I could already tell that she was filthy rich. Her entire aura reeked of wealth, and I felt like I might go blind just from looking at her. The gold and diamond jewelries she had on were blinding, and they had impeded my sight for a moment, causing me to step on her. In an instant, the lady rose from her seat and slapped me across the face. "You careless sewer rat, can't you look where you're going?!" She screamed at me in rage. The sting of her slap echoed through my cheek, but I kept my head low, doing my best to endure the pain and the humiliation burning through me. This wasn’t the first time I’d been insulted by one of Alexander's rich guests, and I doubted it would be the last. They had a knack for looking down on people, and the past month had taught me all I needed to know while dealing with people like that. I mustered up a little smile, hoping to conceal the rage that was currently coursing through me. I knew my role here, and I knew that Alexander wouldn't be happy if I stepped out of line. It was for the best, and I just had to live with it. “My sincere apologies, ma'am. I'll get something to clean it quickly.” I said softly, keeping my eyes fixed on the floor. The woman, however, wasn’t satisfied. “Apologies won’t fix my shoe, will they?” she hissed, her voice dripping with venom. “Do you know how much these cost? More than your entire existence, I’m sure.” "She's not worth the effort, Rose. Let's get back to the important matter, I'll make sure to deal with her later." Alexander intervened calmly, his demeanor calm although his eyes seemed cold as he glared at me. I froze for a minute, my heart skipping a beat as I hurriedly left the room. He was like a completely different person whenever I was in this cloth, and sometimes I wondered if he was really the same person whenever we were together at night. The woman turned to face him, her expression quickly changing from anger to a sweet flirty one. “You're right, dear. I shouldn't let a common maid get the best of me...” I heard her speak as I walked away. I didn't need a soothsayer to see that this Rose lady, whoever she was, was already in love with Alexander. It was hard to miss it, and I wasn't exactly surprised. If anything, I was simply jealous and angry every time he was with a female. Alexander always seemed to play into their games, leading them on every chance he got. He was clearly a master player, and neither of them had been able to escape his net. I swallowed hard as I reached the kitchen, my cheek still hurting from the slap from earlier. I had already been through worse, but it hurt more than I had expected. I had thought that pretending to be a maid would be easy work, but it had been nothing short of torturous since I began. It was difficult to spend the entire day watching my husband flirt and chat with women who were better looking and richer than me. It felt like he preferred them to me, but that wasn't what he said at night. They were better than me at everything, and although Alexander assured me that nothing was going on between him and his clients, I still counted my days as his wife. I just couldn't help but feel that one day he would leave me for someone else. I had no idea what I had expected when I married one of the most notorious playboys in the city. But looking back, I soon realized that I had gotten no say in the matter. I had been sold to him, and he practically owned me, and was likely to throw me away once I lost my value. He could walk again, there was no need for him to have a wife when he could play around with any girl he wanted right? I felt my heart burn at the thought of losing Alexander. Was I really that attached to him? We were barely together, yet I couldn't shake this feeling deep inside of me. Could it be that I had fallen for Alexander? Or was this one of the tricks he used on women?Alexander's POV Although my blood was boiling, I remained calm, maintaining a steady smile as I continued my discussion with Rose. One thing was certain, and that was the fact that I was never going to work with her establishment no matter how much they had to offer. She had crossed a line, and I didn't care if she didn't know that Heather was my wife or not. Her reaction was simply too abrasive, and was not one that I could condone. With a smile on her face, Rose reached for my hand on the table and squeezed it gently. "I'm glad you can walk again, perhaps we can celebrate over dinner tonight?" Rose offered, squeezing Alexander's hands a bit tighter. I pulled my hand away gently but firmly, my smile faltering just enough to let her know I wasn’t interested. “I appreciate the offer, Rose, but I’ll have to decline. My schedule is already packed.”Her smile tightened, but she didn’t let it drop. “You’re always so busy, Alexander. Surely you can spare a little time for an old friend. E
Alexander's POV "It's been a while, Alex. How have you been?" Cynthia inquired in her calm soothing voice. I didn't reply immediately, I was far too stunned to reply as quickly as I should have. How did she get my number? Why was she calling? What was going on? My thoughts were a chaotic mess as I stared at my phone, unsure of how to react to the shock of hearing her voice. "Alex?" she prompted, her voice pulling me back to the present, and only then did I realize that I might have been silent for a little too long. I cleared my throat, trying to steady myself. "Cynthia... it's unexpected to hear from you. I've been well, you?" "Well? Surely that's not all," she said with a small laugh that was all too familiar to my memories. "You did just regain your ability to walk after a year, Alex." "Oh," I said, trying my best to sound calm and collected even though I was anything but. My years of experience in hiding my true feelings helped me manage that. "You heard about that too?"
Heather's POV"What on earth do you think you're doing?! Who is going to pay these tuition fees?! You're twenty four already, Heather! You shouldn't be wasting your life in college, get married and free this family of one burden already!" My father, Uriel Stone, yelled before tossing the envelope I had given him across the room. "Aren't you ashamed of yourself?! Leaching off your parents at this age! And now you have the guts to push your fees on us?"I remained still, tears slowly welling up in my eyes. I knew it was stupid of me to ask my parents for help after everything they've done for me, but I was in a tight position and they were the only people who I could ask for help. I worked multiple part time jobs, and had been able to pay for my tuition fee for the past years. This was my last year in college, and the fees were a lot bigger than what I had anticipated. I had saved up half of it, and needed the remaining half of the money. My parents weren't wealthy, if anything I'd say
Heather's POV I had thought everything my mother said was part of some big prank, but reality had struck when different cars pulled up in front of our house at dusk. I only needed one glance to tell me that these weren't ordinary people, and my fear had been confirmed when I laid eyes on Logan Forger, the wealthiest man in the entire city. "Welcome, Mr Forger—""Let's not waste any time, where is she?" Logan interjected before my father had the chance to properly welcome him.."Here she is, Heather Stone, my beautiful daughter." Father replied with a bright smile as he walked over to where I stood with a hung head. "Raise your head, child, I don't have time to play around." Logan commanded and I obeyed promptly. Even though I had spent the last thirty minutes crying out my eyes, mother had made sure she had covered my swollen eyes with makeup. Not once had she allowed me to put on makeup, to her it was a waste of money, but today had been different. "She's a beauty, isn't she?" F
Alexander's POV"A bride?!" I inquired as I slowly reached for my wheelchair. I had heard that my father had been up to something, but getting me another wife was not what I had intended. This was the third time in less than a year, and at this point it had become insulting and rude. I didn't need a bride, and I definitely didn't need him going out and picking random women off the streets for me anytime he pleased. Getting onto my wheelchair, I wheeled myself towards his bedroom, where I knew he would be. The tires of my wheelchair squeaked faintly against the polished floor. He could tell I was coming, and while I wished I could be more discreet, I unfortunately did not have the leisure to make that decision.Reaching his room, I pushed open his door with unrestrained rage to meet him sitting at his desk, leaning back in his chair with a satisfied smirk on his face. “Alex—” he greeted casually, as though he hadn’t just upended my life for the third time in less than a year. “I was
Alexander's POV I glared at the lady in front of me, unsure of what to make of the words she had just said. Could she not see that I was crippled? Or had she been forced to play this act by my father? "I have nothing to give you, can't you see that?" I laid out for her just in case she couldn't see that I was in a wheelchair. "If you want a child, I can't give you that. I don't know who you are, and I'm sure you don't know anything about me beyond the magazines. So what is it? What do you want? Money? How much did my father pay you—"I paused the moment I saw tears trickling down from her face. She was crying, but why? Had my words been too harsh, or was she shedding tears for a completely different reason. Perhaps she was crying at how miserable the man she had been forced to marry was. It wasn't the first time I've seen this, and it definitely wouldn't be the last.I wheeled closer to her, determined to find out why she was crying. "What is it? What's the matter with you now?" I
Heather's POV I wheeled Alexander into the doctor's office with a faint smile on my face. We had been married for a week, and while it had not been a complete bliss, things weren't as bad as I had imagined. It was difficult to please Alexander, he was angry most of the time, but deep down I knew he was a good man. His attitude had merely changed because of his accident, but I was hoping things would be different after today. It had taken me a whole week to convince him to come here. He barely left home ever since his accident, and whenever he did he always made sure to wear a disguise. He was clearly ashamed of the man he had become, but I planned to change that."This better work." Alexander nagged as we entered the doctor's office. Dr Harrington was one of my lecturers back at college, and he was a renowned orthopedist. Compared to the others that Alexander had probably been to, he might seem mediocre, but I was almost positive that Dr Harrington would help Alexander in a way that
Alexander's POV I woke up to the strong smell of antiseptic and an odd sensation in my legs—"My legs!!" My mind rampaged as my eyes immediately swung open. Swiftly, I sat up on the bed, almost scaring the nurses that had come to check up on me, and also waking Heather who seemed to be asleep. "Alexander..." She called out weakly, a faint smile forming on her lips. "Heather...my legs...I..I can feel them..." Heather's dull eyes lightened a bit with joy. "You can feel them?" she asked with a smile. I could already tell that she knew that my surgery was successful, but still wanted to play along with my reaction."Yes!" I thundered excitedly, my hands gripping the edge of the hospital bed as I willed my legs to move. It was faint, just the slightest twitch, but it was there and it had been painful. I didn't care, if anything, the pain felt exhilarating. For a whole year I hadn't been able to move these limbs. But now I could, I could feel pain, I felt complete...One of the nurses,

Matthew's POV "We both know killing me won't be beneficial to either of us. My people are aware that I've come here. If I'm not to return, be certain that there will be consequences." "You're brave to make threats even in your condition, brat!" Logan cursed before gesturing for his security team to lower their guns. He knew better than I that he wouldn't make it out unscathed if he harmed me. "So what are you here for? Make it snappy." "I'm sure you're already aware of the reasons for my visit. But if you're really daft, then allow me to refresh your memory. Your son is walking again, you've broken the terms of our agreement, and I'm sure you're prepared for what will come next." I said with a tone that perfectly mirrored the rage I was feeling at that moment. I didn't care whether or not his men were still around. He had broken a promise he made to my father, and I needed a good explanation to not immediately kill his son for that betrayal. "You think I can control a grown man?"
Matthew's POV I tossed my phone aside in rage. My entire body was bubbling with anger, and despite my efforts to keep my emotions concealed, they spilled over.Alexander was definitely brave, I had to give that to him. Unlike his father, he definitely had some backbone, and I was certain now that it wouldn't be easy to break him. But it was something I had to do, a promise I must keep. However, at the moment, there wasn't much I could do. Thanks to an important business, I haven't been able to keep my attention on Logan and his son. I basically had no information on Alexander at the moment, and if it weren't for his father, I wouldn't even know that he had gotten his leg surgery. But now, Alexander had left home, and according to Logan he had bought property in a place he really didn't know. Aside from that, I was completely in the dark when it came to Alexander. Clenching my fists in rage, I sent the vase on the table flying and crashing into the wall with a kick. Those two were d
Alexander's POV Doctor Harrington arrived sooner than we had expected. And without wasting a second, he got straight to work. In less than ten minutes, my cast was off, and the next twenty minutes was spent examining my legs and teaching me how to walk again. I didn't quite get a hang of the walking part, but Dr Harrington promised me that with constant practice I should be back on my feet like any regular human."It might take weeks, months even, but with steady practice he'll walk perfectly fine again. Shall I recommend a trainer?""No, I think we can handle things on our own here." I replied with a smile, one that mirrored the enormous joy I felt at the moment. "You're in good hands, Heather is a capable student of mine. I'm certain you'll be alright." Dr Harrington commented before picking up his suitcase. "Have a nice day Mr Forger, you too Heather." "Thank you for everything." Heather said to the doctor who merely smiled before exiting the room. Heather turned towards me, and
Alexander's POV The last three months had been the longest of my entire life. I woke up each day feeling more eager to use my legs than the previous day. The days had been slow, and while they hadn't been the best days of my life, I was sure things were about to change soon. "Dr Harrington will be here in less than an hour." Heather informed the minute she got off the phone. A bright smile crossed my face as I drew in a deep breath. Finally I would be able to use my legs after a full year and a couple months. Although I could stand and take a few steps now, I never really pushed it. The last thing I wanted were complications, I didn't want to wait even a day more to get these bandages and restrictions off. "Thank you, Heather." I whispered as I pulled her closer for a light kiss on the lips. Her cheeks turned pink just before she tossed her face out of my view. She was still a bit shy around me, but compared to her first week, she had really grown—both on me, and emotionally too.
Heather's POV I remained still, mouth agape, and completely unsure of how to react to what I had just heard. Was Alexander playing games with me, or did he really mean the words that had just left his mouth? Has his father really done such a thing? And who on earth was this cousin of his?"I don't want you to worry about any of this, it's nothing to me anymore, so don't let it bother you." Alexander added, but at that moment it was clear that he was trying to convince himself that nothing serious had happened. But this was definitely something to be worried about, and a lot more than he was treating it. Sure, he mentioned not believing everything his father had said, but exactly didn't mean that those words were lies. And if by chance they weren't, that meant that Alexander now had people who might be after his life. "Are you going to tell the police about this?" I inquired in a shaky voice, one that Alexander couldn't have missed because he soon wheeled closer to hold my hand. Gent
Heather's POV "Pack whatever you need, we're leaving now!" Those were the first things Alexander said to me the moment he entered the room. He was visibly annoyed, and even though I had questions, I diligently obeyed to avoid angering him the more."Is there a reason we're leaving? You just got back from the hospital, shouldn't you rest a little bit—""Just get your things ready and stop asking questions!" He scolded me. "Okay." I whispered, hurt by his words and tone. Alexander didn't seem to care, he was clearly blinded by rage and didn't want to share his pain with me. It didn't take long for me to be done with packing, I didn't have much anyway. "I'm ready." I announced to Alex who could visibly see that I was ready. He let out a tired sigh before finally replying to me."Wait in the car, I'll be with you soon." "Is everything alright—""Just wait in the car Heather. I'm alright, don't worry about me." Alexander interrupted calmly. His tone was a lot calmer now, but I could s
