Alexander's POV I watched as the tiredness disappeared from my father's eyes the moment he seemed to realize where I was headed with everything. "W..what am I supposed to do with this?" He stammered before tossing them right back at me dramatically. "You got legs worked on, congratulations I guess—" "Don't act dumb!" I cautioned him sharply, my tone blunt and devoid of any emotion that might suggest that I wasn't being dead serious at the moment. "You consulted those doctors, you said they were the best of the best. So explain that!" I raged on, my finger pointed at the envelope in his grasp. "There's nothing to explain here. Dr Harrington was just better than them.. it's just luck..." It might be true that Dr Harrington was simply more qualified than the other doctors, but even doctor Harrington had confirmed that a well trained orthopedist would handle the surgery without much difficulty. So unless all of the doctors my father had called in the past were all illiterates,
Heather's POV "Pack whatever you need, we're leaving now!" Those were the first things Alexander said to me the moment he entered the room. He was visibly annoyed, and even though I had questions, I diligently obeyed to avoid angering him the more."Is there a reason we're leaving? You just got back from the hospital, shouldn't you rest a little bit—""Just get your things ready and stop asking questions!" He scolded me. "Okay." I whispered, hurt by his words and tone. Alexander didn't seem to care, he was clearly blinded by rage and didn't want to share his pain with me. It didn't take long for me to be done with packing, I didn't have much anyway. "I'm ready." I announced to Alex who could visibly see that I was ready. He let out a tired sigh before finally replying to me."Wait in the car, I'll be with you soon." "Is everything alright—""Just wait in the car Heather. I'm alright, don't worry about me." Alexander interrupted calmly. His tone was a lot calmer now, but I could s
Heather's POV I remained still, mouth agape, and completely unsure of how to react to what I had just heard. Was Alexander playing games with me, or did he really mean the words that had just left his mouth? Has his father really done such a thing? And who on earth was this cousin of his?"I don't want you to worry about any of this, it's nothing to me anymore, so don't let it bother you." Alexander added, but at that moment it was clear that he was trying to convince himself that nothing serious had happened. But this was definitely something to be worried about, and a lot more than he was treating it. Sure, he mentioned not believing everything his father had said, but exactly didn't mean that those words were lies. And if by chance they weren't, that meant that Alexander now had people who might be after his life. "Are you going to tell the police about this?" I inquired in a shaky voice, one that Alexander couldn't have missed because he soon wheeled closer to hold my hand. Gent
Alexander's POV The last three months had been the longest of my entire life. I woke up each day feeling more eager to use my legs than the previous day. The days had been slow, and while they hadn't been the best days of my life, I was sure things were about to change soon. "Dr Harrington will be here in less than an hour." Heather informed the minute she got off the phone. A bright smile crossed my face as I drew in a deep breath. Finally I would be able to use my legs after a full year and a couple months. Although I could stand and take a few steps now, I never really pushed it. The last thing I wanted were complications, I didn't want to wait even a day more to get these bandages and restrictions off. "Thank you, Heather." I whispered as I pulled her closer for a light kiss on the lips. Her cheeks turned pink just before she tossed her face out of my view. She was still a bit shy around me, but compared to her first week, she had really grown—both on me, and emotionally too.
Alexander's POV Doctor Harrington arrived sooner than we had expected. And without wasting a second, he got straight to work. In less than ten minutes, my cast was off, and the next twenty minutes was spent examining my legs and teaching me how to walk again. I didn't quite get a hang of the walking part, but Dr Harrington promised me that with constant practice I should be back on my feet like any regular human."It might take weeks, months even, but with steady practice he'll walk perfectly fine again. Shall I recommend a trainer?""No, I think we can handle things on our own here." I replied with a smile, one that mirrored the enormous joy I felt at the moment. "You're in good hands, Heather is a capable student of mine. I'm certain you'll be alright." Dr Harrington commented before picking up his suitcase. "Have a nice day Mr Forger, you too Heather." "Thank you for everything." Heather said to the doctor who merely smiled before exiting the room. Heather turned towards me, and
Matthew's POV I tossed my phone aside in rage. My entire body was bubbling with anger, and despite my efforts to keep my emotions concealed, they spilled over.Alexander was definitely brave, I had to give that to him. Unlike his father, he definitely had some backbone, and I was certain now that it wouldn't be easy to break him. But it was something I had to do, a promise I must keep. However, at the moment, there wasn't much I could do. Thanks to an important business, I haven't been able to keep my attention on Logan and his son. I basically had no information on Alexander at the moment, and if it weren't for his father, I wouldn't even know that he had gotten his leg surgery. But now, Alexander had left home, and according to Logan he had bought property in a place he really didn't know. Aside from that, I was completely in the dark when it came to Alexander. Clenching my fists in rage, I sent the vase on the table flying and crashing into the wall with a kick. Those two were d
Matthew's POV "We both know killing me won't be beneficial to either of us. My people are aware that I've come here. If I'm not to return, be certain that there will be consequences." "You're brave to make threats even in your condition, brat!" Logan cursed before gesturing for his security team to lower their guns. He knew better than I that he wouldn't make it out unscathed if he harmed me. "So what are you here for? Make it snappy." "I'm sure you're already aware of the reasons for my visit. But if you're really daft, then allow me to refresh your memory. Your son is walking again, you've broken the terms of our agreement, and I'm sure you're prepared for what will come next." I said with a tone that perfectly mirrored the rage I was feeling at that moment. I didn't care whether or not his men were still around. He had broken a promise he made to my father, and I needed a good explanation to not immediately kill his son for that betrayal. "You think I can control a grown man?"
Heather's POV Although Alexander couldn't properly walk yet, modeling agencies had already begun to call and harass him for jobs again. He hadn't accepted any yet, but I was sure it wouldn't be long before he did so. He could walk up and down the stairs now without any problems, and could jug for short amounts of time. He wasn't back to full health, but it was clear that he was making great improvements.Although Alexander was happy that he was getting deals after everything that had happened, we still had no idea how news of his surgery had gotten out to the public. It was in front of every newspaper and big magazine, and his phone wouldn't stop buzzing from all the girls and companies trying to reach out to him. At first we had thought Dr Harrington was the snitch, but Alexander figured it was either his father or Mathew who had pulled this stunt. Although all the attention was a bit sickening, I was happy for Alexander most of the time. We might not be couples at the moment, but
Alexander's POV I used my body as a shield to keep Heather safe from whatever the fuck was happening. Were we being targeted? Or had we simply gotten caught in the middle of a gang rivalry? The former seemed to likely be the case, the restaurant seemed to be the only thing being targeted. What was going on? Was this Matthew's doing? Surely he wouldn't be this careless, would he? Although a private establishment, the restaurant was not in a secluded area, residential areas were nearby, so there was no way people wouldn't recognize his cartel. Had he sent them after me regardless of that risk? Was he really that desperate to get rid of me? "Tsk..." I lamented audibly while I held Heather tightly in my arms. It took a while for the restaurant's security to retaliate, and another five minutes before the exchange came to a halt. I didn't blame them for taking so long, this place was built for eating, not for warfare, and an unexpected attack like this was not something they could e

Heather's POV The days felt slower, and I never failed to wake up with a feeling of regret every morning. How could I not feel bad when I constantly had to wake up by the side of the man whom I had betrayed and cheated on. Matt wouldn't stop calling, and each time I saw his name on my phone screen, I was reminded about everything that happened. It felt torturous, I just wanted to forget about everything that had happened, but I just couldn't escape it no matter how hard I tried. It had been stupid of me to get involved with another man while I was married in the first place, and now I was simply paying for my mistakes. "Are you ready, yet?" Alexander inquired as he walked down the stairs, his voice effectively distracting me from my thoughts. "Y...Yes." I stammered, hoping he hadn't caught the look on my face earlier. "Are you sure about this?" I asked, concerned and scared. "Yes, we deserve it. You deserve it." He replied as he walked forward to me. Once I was within reach,
Mathew's POV Although we had a job at hand, I just couldn't stop thinking about Heather. Why did she suddenly suggest that we stop? What had happened? Did she not like me like that? Or have I simply lost my touch? It had been a full day now and I still couldn't get it out of my head. I had called her numerous times, texted her a dozen long paragraphs but she just wouldn't reply nor return my calls. I never imagined that I would be this down for a lady I had met barely a month ago. Something was just different about Heather, and I had gotten drunk on whatever pheromones she was emitting. She was all I could think about, and it was slowly driving me insane. "When do we leave, boss?" Viktor inquired, his deep voice jolting me back to reality. I had almost forgotten about our job, and I could tell that Viktor was not happy one bit with this recent development. He was already mad at me for not taking the Forgers too seriously, and that was why he had lashed out at Cynthia the other day
Alexander's POV The last thing I had expected to hear when I got up from bed was the fact that Cynthia could be a serial killer. This practically just told me that I had no idea who Cynthia really was, and it genuinely terrified me. But then again, there was a solid possibility that this man was lying. I highly doubted that he was being dishonest, but that was simply not enough to prove that he was lying. "You do not seriously think that I'll believe you, do you? I've only known you for like five minutes, and you expect me to believe that someone I've known for years is a mass murderer of old men?" I challenged, crossing my arms and staring Maxwell down. My voice was steady, but internally, I was grappling with a storm of doubt. As much as I wanted to dismiss his claim outright, there was no denying that Cynthia had definitely changed. She had many connections, and was bigger than I had imagined over the course of a year. I never really questioned her about her means of survival,
Alexander's POV Although I wanted to find who the bastard sleeping with my wife was, Matt was simply not enough information to make that dream reality. I had no idea what he looked like, and I simply didn't want to discuss that matter any further than I already have. The last I wanted was to remind myself or Heather that she had been unfaithful. Stepping on the acceleration pedal, I sped off into the highway, determined to get to work on time. I hadn't been able to get anything done the previous days thanks to my thoughts always distracting me, as well as Cynthia always coming at the wrong time. But today would be different. I had worked on those thoughts, and I was sure Heather wasn't going to cheat on me anymore, at least not in a long time. I reached the office ten minutes earlier than usual, clocked in, and immediately got to work. It was crucial that I finished on time so that I could go back to Heather and keep her company. She had said she would take a break from school for
Alexander's POV I did my best to concentrate on work, but no matter how much I tried, I just couldn't get the image of Heather kissing another guy out of my head. It had been three days since she told me about the incident, and I still couldn't get it out of my head. I had been with her the past three days, making sure that she wasn't going around playing around with other guys, as well as keeping her company and giving her all the love she deserved. While I wanted to play my part as her husband properly, I was mostly spending time with her so that she wouldn't have to go out and be with the man that had supposedly kissed her by accident. "Stop thinking about that!" I cautioned myself as I tried to focus on the tons of paperwork in front of me. It was simply impossible to not think about it, I loved Heather and I didn't want her to be taken from me. Who was this guy? What did he look like? And what exactly had he done and said to Heather? Taking a deep breath, I fell back to the c
Alexander's POV I stared at Heather with stunned eyes, unsure of how to react to what she had told me. I suspected that something like that might be going on, but I never really imagined that it would be true. "It wasn't anything serious, I think he just missed my cheeks by accident." Heather explained in a rather frantic voice after she caught the look on my face. I knew for certain that he hadn't missed her cheeks by accident, and I knew that it was definitely something serious for whoever this Matt guy is. Heather might not take it seriously, if she was really committed to the relationship, I was certain she wouldn't let me know. However, I couldn't say the same for Matt who had no idea that Heather was married. "It..it's fine, Heather, I'm not mad at you." I finally replied after a full minute of silence. She had worked up the courage to tell me, and I was really grateful for that. At least she was better than me who couldn't even think of approaching her with the truth
