The golden chandeliers were lined up meticulously on the ceilings, and their lights glistened over the banquet hall of the Davidsons as it was a few days to Christmas, hosting an evening party was a trading that they've practiced for years from several generations.
There were guests everywhere, people moving back and forth, dressed in their best, women wore elegant designer dresses while the men were clothed in fine suites. Katrina could be seen at a corner leaning in front of two finely dressed kids, a boy and a girl with similar hair colors but different dress style. The boy, Jeremy, was the naughtiest, she couldn't trust him watching over his sister for that evening at the party “Joanna, you're in charge of watching over your brother tonight” Katrina said to the little girl who'd smeared chocolates over her mouth and face, although she was immersed in the pleasure, she still respected her mother enough to focus on her instructions. “Yes, mother” Joanna responded, the four years old kid was as fluent as an adult, they attended the finest schools in Germany, even though their mother moved back to Italy with them, the knowledge they'd uphold from before could never leave then. “Fine, then I'll leave you both to enjoy the party. Please move together and do not wander about” Katrina added before she stood up to find her grandfather. Staring back at her bundles of joy, Katrina was proud of herself for singlehandedly raising two fine kids in the last four years. She also didn't regret keeping the pregnancy as well, even though the night she'd conceived them held a painful memory for her. She tried to recall the events as it was her stepsister, Lucy, who took her there to the party to have fun a night to her wedding. She didn't expect that it was all a set up to get her framed up by having her in bed with another man. Katrina could never forget the pain she felt inside her when she found out the whole truth that they've been sleeping together for months since she'd introduced Frank to the family as her fiance. She tried to find the man whose children she'd carried on the night five years ago but all her efforts proved futile, he didn't even bother to find and compensate her after he'd forced himself on her. Recalling it all, Katrina almost shed tears. She arrived outside her grandfather's bedroom, and as soon as she stared at the door, the memories of five years ago came flooding in. “Useless girl, how dare you get pregnant and bring so much shame to the family? After all we've done for you?” Her own father insulted her, he made her feel unwanted and threatened to make her get an abortion but she refused, instead, she decided to run away with her pregnancy. Only her grandfather, Joseph Davidson, believed in her and allowed her to go abroad to have her kids. Katrina could never forget how much the old man had supported her in these past few years. She finally placed a knock on the door and was allowed to go inside. Her stepmother, father and stepsister, Lucy, were all in there with him. Wishing and singing him a happy birthday song. The old man's dull face brightened up the moment he saw her walk in, it was as if he'd been sad over her absence. She greeted everyone politely, even when the atmosphere showed that she wasn't welcomed there. Katrina still came because of her grandpa. She'd missed his birthday parties in the last few years, now that he'd hosted one alongside their annual Christmas banquet, she just had to honor him. “If it isn't the prodigal daughter.” Lucy remarked but she'd ignored her. “What are you doing here, Katrina?’’ her stepmother asked her quickly. Although her father didn't utter a word, it was obvious that he also didn't want her to come here. “I invited her over.” Mr Joseph Davidson quickly cuts in. “Welcome my child, how are you, doing?” The old man asked, his eyes wandered around her like he was expecting another person. “Where are they? Your kids?” He asked again, Katrina smiled as she leaned down to hug him. “They're both fine grandpa, happy birthday” she immediately said. “Thank you so much, Katrina. I've missed you” he added “I missed you too, grandpa” “The kids are downstairs at the party. I will introduce you all later” she explained. “Oh, than that will be nice. I cannot wait to lay my hands on my grandchildren. Lucy, you and Frank should give us children soon, it's almost three years since your marriage” Mr Joseph Davidson said. Lucy's face flushed in embarrassment as she turned her gaze away slowly. “Grandpa, Lucy will birth an heir when the time is right.” Mrs Davidson said. “Right, then I will be waiting for that time. For now, I want to meet the little geniuses Katrina birthed” “Hi everyone, happy birthday grandpa” a man walked into the bedroom, greeting the family with his normal sarcastic tone, however, he didn't notice her quickly. He leaned forward, offering the birthday gift to Joseph who turned his gaze away. “I do not want anything from you, Frank. You know I never approved your marriage with my grandchild, now, you both haven't given the families any babies yet” he stated. Frank's face turned cold immediately, he was embarrassed. He stood back up and then he noticed the beautiful woman dressed elegantly in a light pink dress standing a few steps away from Mr Joseph. “Katrina? What are you doing here?” He quickly asked. His eyes flushed with excitement and his heart heaved. Recalling what he'd done to her many years ago, he was hoping that she wouldn't report him. He couldn't leave the family now, it would be a shame for him and his family. “Long time no see, Frank” Katrina responded in a cold tone. “Hehehe” he scoffed, out of words to respond to her. “You changed a lot” he said, and Lucy immediately kicked his foot. “I'm sorry, love.” He quickly apologized, Katrina smiled inside her, seeing them make a fool out of themselves. The door of the bedroom abruptly opened and a maid rushed inside to inform Katrina. “Ma'am, your kids fell the birthday cake” she announced. Katrina was immediately embarrassed and her heart pounded deeply. She rushed downstairs to check the situation, hoping that Jeremy and Joanna weren't hurt. “I said it, nothing good comes out of that woman. Now, her little brats had ruined our surprise for grandpa” Lucy remarked, before they all headed downstairs.Jeremy and Joanna who weren't aware of the gravity of what they'd done started to eat the cake smeared on the dazzling white marble floor. Each and everyone of the guests watched them carefully, some even made videos to upload on the internet.“J. J!” Katrina's voice echoed as she stormed the hall quickly. She picked up her kids from the pile of cakes and carefully inspected them, after she realized that they weren't hurt, she hugged them.“Look at her, she got pregnant and gave birth to two nuisances”“I hate her so much, she has no shame”“Katrina Davidson’s children are as razz as their mother”Katrina heard some of the guests making jest of her and the kids. But it didn't matter to her, as long as they were alright. Her little flowers mattered a lot to her.“Mummy, it was Jeremy's idea to pull the table cloth down and eat the cake. We are sorry” Joanna apologized immediately, feeling remorseful.“S.. sorry, momma” Jeremy followed.“How adorable, my little flowers” Joseph stated fr
The party was still buzzing as always and the twins kept playing. They'd left their grandfather only hoping to find their mother soon as she's been away for a while now, and none of them knew where she'd gone.Joanna was the first to notice so she informed Jeremy so they could go search for her. As the both of them held their hands running through the crowd of people, Jeremy mistakenly stumbled upon a tall man. He'd hit his face on the man's knees, the little boy was confused on what to do, he and his sister exchanged glances, knowing that they'd done something wrong, Jeremy started to cry.Dylan, who didn't expect the kids to run into him heard them cry so he quickly leaned down to their level. Although he wasn't good with kids, he picked them up in his arms and tried to make them stop crying. The music was a bit loud so the guests could barely hear them cry. Dylan took them out to a more quickly place in order to calm them down.“Shhh…. Calm down kids, tell me, what's wrong?” He sai
Dylan watched the scene right in front of him and he wiped his eyes carefully. If he wasn't mistaken, Katrina was the woman from that night at the hotel. He couldn't be wrong about it! Her fair skin, oval face and brown hair all rang a bell in his thoughts. Most importantly, her looks. Although they'd changed, his memory was retentive enough to recall her. He quickly followed her inside to confront her. Katrina, who wasn't expecting anything, was stunned when someone grabbed her arms tightly, almost making her drop Joanna. “You!” Dylan growled angrily. She stared at his utterly familiar face, bit was filled with rage after what he'd just done. “Let go of me, sir!” She yelled out.Joanna tried her best to remain stable in the arms of her mother. “Daddy, let go of my mummy!” She cried out.Katrina didn't hear wrong, her daughter just referred to this strange man as her daddy. She couldn't understand what was going on. Who Dylan was and why did Joanna call him daddy? The scene was soon
It was a few days to Christmas, Katrina would've loved it if the kids spent it with their grandpa, she'd imagined them spending a lot of time together and she planned on dressing up in Santa's costume to present the with their favorite video games and toys She already made so much plans for them to enjoy the holidays, she didn't expect for everything to change in a blink of an eye, just because they met their Father.“Joanna, come here right now!” Katrina yelled out loudly, summoning the little kid who was focused to the cartoon videos she was watching. While her brother was at the corner playing with his toys, Katrina was never bothered about the little boy because, according to her, he was younger, and Joanna had to act like the older sister at all times..She frowned as Joanna ignored her, knowing fully well that they didn't have much time left, their flight would soon be ready and they'd have to leave the city soon.It hurts Katrina to make this decision, but it was for the best.
The ride back to the mansion was swift, however, the twins had the better of it as they kept on drooling over their father. Katrina didn't realize how much these children needed their father in their lives. She'd always thought that she alone was enough for them. For the past four years since she'd given birth to them, none of the twins ever complained about not having a father, rather, they'd only requested for more toys, video games and outings with their motherKatrina was however stunned to find them all over Dylan Michelson. She watched them from the middle seat where she was in the limousine, using the rearview mirror at the front, she couldn't stop feeling stunned and apologetic towards them. This made her finally decide to work with Dylan in order to fill in the space the twins had missed in these past years. Soon, they arrived at the Mickelson villa and they were all out of the limousine heading towards the mansion.Katrina's heart beat fastly as she couldn't stop thinking a
Dylan sighed as he stepped aside motioning for Katrina to get in which she did. She fiddled nervously with her fingers as she walked into his room, her eyes sweeping every single decor in the room, trying her best to avoid the shirtless man in front of her. It wasn’t just a room, it was a mini palace, designed with gold. He even had a golden tree artifact which she was sure must’ve cost millions. Katrina could not lie, his room looked beautiful as the finely done dull painting on the wall accommodated the beautiful decor in the room. Her eyes stayed longe than usual on an art painting of Dylan. He looked younger in the portrait as his eyes bore into hers. She let herself imagine how beautiful of a man he would’ve been younger and when she turned to look at Dylan, she could see him. He was still the same, only the young boy in the portrait had a more welcoming eyes than the ones which stared back at her.“What about the kids?.” Dylan asked folding his hands. Katrina flinched a litt
“Are we having a wedding celebration or not?.” Dylan asked.Katrina halted in her tracks when Dylan spoke up. She had not noticed but he had moved to the little library stand in his room to pick a book. She turned to look at him confused. She didn’t know how she felt about having a public wedding or if she wanted to bother with the fuss of it all.“No. A court wedding is fine. Something simple and quick. It’s not like it’s a love match where we need to exchange vows. We both sign contacts so when one doesn’t fulfill their end of the bargain, there’s consequences.” Katrina replied in a diplomatic way.Dylan scoffed shutting the book he was holding with a thud. It was the 50 laws of power. He turned to look Katrina over nodding his head.He agreed with her point. There wasn’t any need for a celebration. The only reason they were getting married was to give the kids a home. He didn’t fancy the idea of his kids growing apart from him. At least his parents had trained him together no matte
Katrina woke up the next morning to soft knocks on her door. She whispered a sleeping come in and soon maids entered her room holding the most beautiful wedding dress she had ever seen.“Good morning Miss Katrina.” They all Chorused.Still on her bed, one of the maids went up to her handing her a card in a small silver tray.Katrina picked the card with interest as she opened it revealing a handwritten note. Her eyes immediately went to the end of the note to see who had sent it and just as she had suspected, it was from Dylan.“Now you don’t have to think of something to wear. Our lawyers will be present at 10. Don’t be late.” Katrina read aloud. She was stunned by this new development especially since she had discussed with Dylan that she had wanted a day off to sort herself out. She eyed the white gown scoffing as she threw the card shabbily on her bed.“Okay? Is there a problem?.” Katrina asked the maids when she finally realized they were still in her room.“We’re here to get you
When they got back to the mansion, Dylan helped Katrina relieve the pain on her face using a cold water compress and a salve. She was grateful for his help but still tried to talk him out of his decision to cut off those men's limbs The thoughts of it scares her to the core and made her so uncomfortable. Katrina stared into Dylan's eyes, they were cold, more than they used to be.Clearly, he was so enraged, thinking of what she'd gone through in the hands of those perverts. Katrina also found out that Dylan had the houses in that areas burned down Incase they'd already taken her naked pictures and hid it somewhere so they'll all get destroyed.Dylan got up from the bed after he was done with giving Katrina her treatments. She tried to say something to him but he already left the bedroom heading outside without looking back or making a stop.Katrina was worried about Dylan, he was someone who didn't know how to manage his emotions except using violence. Katrina felt lost at the moment
Katrina arrived at the cafe about ten minutes later, she looked around going to recognize her potential client. The man sent his picture for her easy recognition but then she realized that none of the people there looked like him.Katrina wasn't in the mood to play games, although his offer seemed to good to be truth, she believed in it and accepted. But right now it was all looking like a scam. She turned back trying to leave , since she had a lot to do at the office, she didn't want to waste her time right there.Upon reaching the exit of the cafe, she saw a man approaching where she stood, near her car. She was silently staring at him, scanning him properly to ensure that she wasn't mistaking the identity “Miss Katrina?” He called out to her.“It's Mrs Mickelson to you, sir” she responded rudely, seeing him as one of the people in the society who never saw her as the wife of Dylan. Katrina frowned even after he apologized to her.“Can we please go inside and discuss now?” He sai
During the night after Katrina had completely settled down, she wore a flimsy nightwear and took a stroll outside the mansion. The evening breeze was cold and it brushed her hair backwards, she rubbed her shoulders gently, trying to calm the chills passing through her body.As soon as she reached outside, she stood near the veranda, staring up at the moon, leaning her left shoulder against the walls. Katrina couldn't stop thinking about what Dylan had narrated to her at the office concerning visiting his family soonEven though she had expected this moment to come earlier, she didn't think that it would be such a big deal until now when Dylan explained to her how bad his relationship with the family was.It all falls into how she was going to manage her relationship with them. According to Dylan, his grandfather was the main character and a hard nut to crack. She would somehow have to find out how to loosen his nut so it could favor her and the children. As it is, she was already fac
Dylan puts down the chop board and he proceeded to take an apron from he stand. Meanwhile Jeremy was at the living room sorting out his assignments, Joanna joined him in the kitchen.Although she barely knew how to cook, she could recall some of the foods her mother cooked for them back at Germany. Joanna narrated everything that she'd witnessed in Germany, how her mother struggled to get a job before registering for fashion school..The little girl seemed so proud of her mother, she had a lot of things to tell Dylan. Her stories made the cooking super slow but Dylan didn't mind, he loved keeping companies with her, she was a very genius kid and very talkative.Dylan tried to think and compare whom she took after. He knew that it was definitely not him, he was never a talkative in any period of his life. Not as a kid or growing up. Definitely it was Katrina, she would be the talkative one. Thinking about it, he smiled.Soon, dinner was done and served at the dining room. Dylan was a
While speeding down the highway in his car, Dylan got a text message from Katrina regarding the interior designers he employed to get a job done in her office. He suddenly diverted his drive to face the road leading to Katrina's company Dylan went in a full speed and in no time, he arrived there. As soon as he walked into the place, he witnessed the designers carrying out their jobs. The new furnitures he paid for were also set to be delivered into the offices and design room Dylan carefully observed in order to know what exactly he needed to buy to make the place completely for Katrina's use. He had it in mind to buy her some industrial seeming machine and others that were used for designs. Golden mannequins and also cloth racks. He quickly logged into his schedule app and set a reminder so he'd go there tomorrow with his assistant to get them. As he .ase his way towards her office, one of the interior designers noticed his presence and he quickly greeted, catching the attention i
The moment Dylan stepped outside the office, he heaved a heavy breath of relief, finding his way down the empty dimly lit hallway. He continued to think about the offer his grandfather had given to him, tightening his fists in rage, if only he could show that man a piece of him mind.Dylan was so infuriated, he couldn't wait to get back to the mansion to see Katrina send the kids. Whenever he was this angry and frustrated, seeing them cool him down.Dylan took a few more steps before he noticed that he was being followed. He continued, ignoring whoever it was since the person was unable to face him, he assumed that the man was an abject coward.Dylan continued until he felt someone place his hands on his shoulder, pressing it deeply. He quickly turned, grabbed the man's arms and twisted it.“Let go of me, Dylan!” He grunted angrily, pushing Dylan off him. Elias saw the angry face of his cousin who wished that he could give him a hard punch on the face. They hated each other, so he wasn
Katrina was too deep in sleep to register Dylan's voice. Without a second thought Dylan lifted her up in his hands, took her inside the bedroom and laid her down. “Good night, Katrina.” He whispered softly and turned away. He went to the balcony and grabbed a seat. With his eyes slightly tilted, he stared blankly into openness as he thought about his life lately. Katrina. The kids. His boring life had changed into a more meaningful one since he found Katrina and the kids. He smiled thinly as he felt grateful for it. A beep from his phone broke into his thoughts and he didn't hesitate to grab it from the table. Who could have been messaging at this time? His mouth fell into a big O as he saw the name of the person who had texted him. It was Simon Mickelson; his grandfather who raised him, the man he feared most in the entire universe.Even though what he was requesting Dylan to do from the text message seemed hard, Dylan didn't dare think otherwise. Simon Mickelson was requesting Dyla
“K.. Katrina " Dylan's voice was a whisper.as he spoke. “How do you feel now?” She was touching the zigzag scar on his face, feeling worried and sorry for him at the same time.Dylan stared blankly into her eyes and softly whispered, “What happened to me?” Katrina clasped a hand over her mouth, feeling a wave of shock rumbling h. “Remember that night…you came to save—” “What night? What are you talking about?”For a few seconds, all Katrina could do was say a mental prayer over her husband. God, don't let him lose his memory. She thought, feeling her cheeks get wet.“You are crying, Katrina.” Dylan took her hand into his. “What are you not telling me?”“No, I am not crying.” She wiped away the tears. “I am fine. Absolutely.” It was obvious that Dylan only lost the memory of the sad event of that night, but he could recall who Katrina was and who the kids were. And for that she was grateful.Katrina inched closer to him, cupping his face in her palms. “I am happy that you are here f
The gurney rattled against the floor as Dylan was being wheeled toward the private emergency unit by the nurses. Speckles of dry blooded crusted his nostrils and the corners of his mouth. With his eyes tightly shut, Dylan appeared nearly dead. About some minutes later, he was rushed from the emergency unit into the surgical room, where a group of surgeons were waiting on him.Katrina was pacing about the hospital waiting area restlessly, looking like a hot mess. Her eyes were bloodshot from incessant crying. The thought of Dylan dying was severely traumatizing and she couldn't imagine it. “Please, let him survive for me and the kids.” She muttered under breath as she pushed tears away from her eyes. With her eyes glued to the route that led to the surgical room, she could count how many times the doctors and nurses were trooping in and out of the surgical room where her beloved Dylan was lying unconscious, and being attended to.About two hours later Katrina felt achy in her leg for p
