“There are other reasons.”

“No, there aren’t,” I replied harshly. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about. “You think I would meet a man I didn’t know because I had free time? I am a writer, Kai, I care about how well I write. It’s just that.”

“What about your other work?” he asked.

“There is no other work. I write full-time. I stay at home, in front of my computer, and drink five to ten cups of tea a day and write all day long.”

He frowned. “Do you enjoy writing?” he asked.

“Why else would I be a writer? It’s not like it pays a lot or that success is guaranteed. I don’t have a given salary each month. I only write because I love to.”

“And what did your boyfriends think about your hiding in your house all day?”

I shrugged. “There haven’t been any.”
