After a tense and quiet wait, the judge finally spoke.

“The court has reached a decision,” he began, his voice echoing in the quiet courtroom. “Based on the evidence presented, it is determined that full custody of Charlotte De Luca will be granted to Miss Sabrina Taylor, her biological mother. This decision reflects not only her legal rights but also the expressed wishes of the late Mr. Nathaniel Hart.”

The judge turned to face Roseanne, his expression softening as he spoke. “Miss De Luca, you have no legal right to the child. If Miss Taylor chooses, she may permit you to remain part of Charlotte’s life.”

Sabrina stood up, her posture rigid and her face set in a determined expression. “Your Honor,” she said, her voice firm but devoid of warmth, “I do not wish for Miss De Luca to be a part of my child’s life. Allowing her to stay involved would complicate my efforts to bond with Charlotte and establish a stable family environment.”

Roseanne looked at Nicholas, her eyes filled with both pain and understanding. “Nicholas, I understand that you need time. I really do. I am very patient.”He offered her a grateful smile. “Thank you.”“But,” she continued, a small hint of hope in her voice, “I can still chase you, right?”Nicholas gave her a soft, teasing smile. “You want to?”She nodded, her eyes earnest. “Yes.”He shrugged slightly. “Up to you.”They both fell silent, lost in their own thoughts about what tomorrow would bring. Roseanne broke the quiet first. “I hope Coco lives a happy life,” she said softly. “I hope she forgets me. She’s just five. If I’m not around, maybe she’ll forget me.”Nicholas's smile was tinged with sadness. “It’s not just your absence that worries me,” he said. “It’s Leon’s. He’s her twin. She needs him more than anyone else.”Roseanne’s expression turned determined. “I’ll make sure he’s a part of her life.”Nicholas raised an eyebrow, curious. “How?”Roseanne said, “By taking away Sabrina

Throughout the journey home, Roseanne and Leon stuck to each other, their tears flowing silently as they held on tight. Though Nicholas’s eyes were filled with unshed tears, he focused on the road, his hands gripping the steering wheel. When they finally reached home, the emptiness hit them all at once. The house was once filled with Coco's laughter and now it felt sadly quiet. The memories of her presence seemed to haunt every corner. Even the staff, who had cared for the children with such love, moved quietly, their eyes red from crying.Ellora and Nikolai had wanted to be there, to support their family through this heartbreaking time, but Nicholas insisted they stay in California. As they stepped inside, Leon’s small voice broke the silence. “Mommy,” he added, “Dad.”Nicholas and Roseanne looked at him as he said. “I know you’re both hurting,” Leon continued, “And I know you want to rest. But I need to talk to you both. Can I? It might hurt, but I need to say it.”Nicholas knelt

She shouted, “Maria!”Maria hurried over. “Yes, boss?”Roseanne scolded her, “You gave Leon cookies again? I specifically told everyone not to! But he shows you his cute face, and you all melt! How am I supposed to run my café if you can’t follow simple instructions?”Leon whispered, “Mommy, I’m sorry.”Roseanne gave him an angry look before storming out of the café.Leon said, “Maria, I’m sorry. “Thank you for dropping us home,” Anne said softly. Before moving to Italy, she and Nicholas had decided she would leave the Hart family house. The café was almost ready, and she would be inaugurating it in a week.It was late in the evening when they arrived home. Anne stood at the door, bathed in the warm glow of the light behind her, while Nicholas stood in the dimness of the driveway.Nicholas nodded. As Anne turned to go inside, he softly called her name.“Anne?” he said, his whisper brushing against her skin like a gentle touch. Her heart raced, and she replied, “Yes?”Nicholas took a step closer, and Anne felt her heart pounding harder in her chest. As he closed the distance, they stood just inches apart. You fought so hard to be here with your mom and dad.”The baby stared up at her, and Abella’s heart melted.“Yes, you’re such a strong, big girl,” she whispered, gently touching the baby’s hand.Outside the NICU, the parents expressed their gratitude; their tearful smiles reminded Abella why she had chosen this path. After her divorce, Abella didn’t leave the country. Cillian had given her a staggering sum in alimony, even going as far as naming half of his assets to her, but she refused to take a single dime. She had her own inheritance. More money than she could ever need. But what could wealth do? It couldn’t buy her happiness. It couldn’t fill the void in her heart.Cillian knew her too well; he didn’t push her to accept anything. He let her go, even when it shattered him. When her mother lived in Italy with Coco and Leon, alongside her uncle Nate, she had bought a beautiful bungalow. It had never been sold, left untouched over the years. When Abella married Cillian, Leon had given her the key to that house as a quiet token of their family’s past. There were two bungalows beside each other, one where her mother had raised her two older siblings, and the other where her father had stayed, the place where her parents had met and reunited. One had been passed down to Charlotte, the other to Leon.

Cillian stared at her, his throat tightening as he heard the finality in her voice. He had imagined this conversation a thousand different ways, but none of them had prepared him for the calm and almost serene acceptance in her eyes.“Abella…” He whispered her name like a prayer, like a plea. “Can we please rethink this?”Abella smiled. It was a soft, bittersweet smile that made his chest ache.“Cillian, there is nothing to rethink,” she said gently. “Alessandro came to see me. He told me that he was leaving the country with his mother. He said he doesn’t want to come between us, that he would be happy if you called him once in a while and only if it was okay with me.” She let out a humorless chuckle. “That’s too big of a burden for me to carry. I mean, I don’t care how you navigate your relationship with your son. But I will give you one piece of advice: don’t be a jerk. Don’t hurt one more person. You have already hurt me, you have hurt him, and you have hurt his mother. Stop making

I’ll work on myself. Just give me a chance.” His hands clenched at his sides as if willing himself not to break apart. “I don’t want to see you like this, so shattered. You mean so fucking much to me. Please.”But to Abella, his words felt like echoes in an empty room. They were hollow and weightless. Once upon a time, she had longed to hear them, had dreamed of a moment where he would look at her like this, beg for her, choose her. But now? Now, they felt unimportant. They meant nothing. She exhaled, rubbing her temple. “I heard you. But my head is splitting apart, Cillian. Can you please just go back to your house? I just w

Madam Facci looked at her son, her expression undecipherable. She had seen Cillian walk through storms without flinching, but today, he stood before her looking utterly wrecked. His usually sharp eyes were bloodshot, his arm wound had reopened, staining his sleeve with fresh blood, yet none of that seemed to matter to him or anyone at this point.“What do you want, Cillian?” she asked, her voice firm but not unkind.“I’m here to see Abella,” he said. His voice was hoarse, almost desperate.Madam Facci crossed her arms. “I’m sure you have no idea what happened last night.”“I know,” he admitted, running a hand through his already disheveled hair. “I just want to explain things to her. She is overthinking this, and there is nothing much to overthink. I just—” He exhaled sharply. “I just want to make everything okay.”A wry smile tugged at Madam Facci’s lips, but there was no amusement in her eyes. “Son,” she said, “we can never tell someone what is worth overthinking or not.
