Christina’s POVI stepped out of the bathroom to see him standing in the middle of the room, with a bottle of water in his hand. I didn’t have to ask to know what it was_my medications.I walked to the sofa and gently placed my dress on it before moving to him to take them. He motioned to me to open up as he popped a pill into my mouth and gave me water to drink. Thereafter, he led me to the desk where the first aid box was sitting and pulled out the chair for me.I watched him bring out all of the things he’d need to dress my wound but when he tilted my head to begin, I touched his arm, meaning to stop him. His questioning gaze landed on mine.“You don’t… you don’t have to, I can do it myself,”“I want to,” I dropped my arm to let him continue. He was gentle just like the first time, and held me still so I wouldn’t move to disrupt him as he took off the plaster and began cleaning it. The way he was so gentle with it made me reflect on how different he’s been in the past few days and
Christina’s POV The car pulled through the gates of the huge estate that was the Reid family home. The property was a wide expanse of land, and the architecture was quite impressive and beautiful and I couldn’t stop staring as the chauffeur slowly rolled the car towards the garage where several other expensive cars were also parked. From the sight alone, I could tell a lot of well-known dignitaries and socialites were in attendance and I could feel my nerves rising, and anxiety settling in my guts as it began to dawn on me that I had no place here. The Reid’s were a family of renowned billionaires, with a large business empire and conglomerate, which Scott only managed half of it. As I’ve been briefed by Aunt Eunice, her elder brother, Colton Reid, managed the other half, which was a business he began building from a very young age and had done his best to raise to the top. It was almost competing with The Ashton Reid Corp, and to think his only daughter, Adeline Reid had just gradua
Christina’s POVThis man standing before me looked so different from Scott in every aspect. From his looks, down to the warm smile on his face, and his calm and welcoming expression, he was the complete opposite of Scott. His soft brown eyes perused my face and before I could get the chance to introduce myself, he spoke up.“You must be Christina Bells,” His smile slipped a bit, giving way to a skeptical expression as though he wasn’t sure that I was the one but I nodded with a smile.“Yes, I am Christina Bells, and you must be Scott’s half-brother,”“Oh, he’s told you about me?” there was an expression of surprise on his face, and I contemplated lying to cover up for him.“Just a tiny bit,”“I see, I never expected that from him, considering we’re not the best of friends, but what can I say, family wins in the end,” We both chuckled at this.He was very warm with a good sense of humor. Some qualities that Scott lacked.“I guess it wouldn’t be wise for me to be caught in the same spac
Christina’s POVAfter Scott’s little show outside, the rest of the party went on without a hitch, as he took time socializing with some of his business partners who were in attendance, while also making contacts with new ones that were down for a business partnership. He was also able to find time to introduce me to more people as his fiancee, not minding his uncle’s earliest remarks. For the rest of the evening, when I wasn’t hanging on his arm like an arm candy and smiling at whoever showed up our way, I was with Aunt Eunice, or all by myself, trying to fit into their inner circle, without calling much attention to myself in the process. But that was a slightly difficult task as the moment he introduced me as his wife-to-be, quite several people became interested in our relationship, and in getting to know more about me.In all of this time, I never caught sight of Marvin again, and I couldn’t stop wondering if he’d heard our little exchange of words and was hurt that his brother wo
Scott’s POVI stared at her, sleeping peacefully with soft snores erupting from her lips. The dim light from the moonlight streaming in through the windows cascaded over her, highlighting her face, and her beauty. She looked like an angel, with her shoulder-length auburn hair fanned across the pillow underneath her head. Her lips were paused in a mean line and I couldn't stop myself from slightly caressing her glossy hair. It felt so soft under my touch. As usual, the few stubborn strands that were out of place and grazing against her face, I pulled them back, to tuck them in place. My gaze roved her face, fixating more on how her long natural lashes fanned her eyelids. She truly looked like a fairy. My little fairy, not Marvin’s. Mine. These thoughts brewed deep within me.I couldn’t get the image of how relaxed and unbothered she looked beside him, out of my head. I closed my eyes to sleep but it was all I could think of. The conversation they had, the lies he must have fed her, and
Christina’s POVThe moment I was behind closed doors, the tears slid down my cheeks. I slapped my palms over my face in an attempt to hold back the tears.I’d been so embarrassed by my reaction to his offer that I had to walk away from him. He was allowing me to return to school. It meant so much to me and has given me the hope that my life is not lost. I could still make it work. I could find my path from where I stopped and picked up from where I left.At first when he’d said the words, I couldn’t believe it. I thought it was a prank to rile me up, another one of his games but then I stared into his eyes and I saw he meant them. Until then, I was ready to scold him for trying to play me by suggesting school, rather than an apology for the way he reacted the previous night but then I realized he was serious about it and I didn’t know what to say.All of the pent up anger that had been brewing in me instantly dried up followed by so much joy that I couldn’t contain. I don’t care if th
Christina’s POVA smile lit up my face on seeing him and I pulled my arm out of Abby’s hold to embrace him warmly.“Hi…” I drawled, still smiling when we pulled apart. “What are you doing here?” My gaze swept over him, to take in the three-piece suit he had on. He obviously couldn’t be a student here.“What? You think I can’t be a student?” He feigned annoyance, but I swatted his chest and we both laughed.“Try another lie,”“I came to see a friend and decided to get lunch before I leave but now that I think about it, it seems the universe wanted me to meet you,” He winked at me, and I was about to respond but then I heard a throat clearing behind me and I suddenly remembered Abby.“Oh, I’m so sorry,” I turned to face her with an apologetic smile etched on my face. She smiled at me and I held her hand, ready to introduce her to Marvin. “Marvin, meet my friend, Abby, and Abby, this is Marvin Reid, Scott’s brother,”For a nanosecond, Abby’s cheerful smile slid off her face, like she cou
Christina’s POVI was still trying to gather my thoughts when he said the words again, in a clearer and louder tone. At first, I was shocked. If he was asking about Marvin then he must be aware that we met today but how did he know?I didn’t have to think for long before it came to me. Dexter, he must have told him. A wave of annoyance hit me that apart from being a personal bodyguard that I didn’t request, thereby drawing unnecessary attention to me, he was taking it too far by spying on me for Scott. When I didn’t respond, he rose to his feet and took a step forward, with a hardened expression etched on his face.“You want him,” this time, it was more of a bitter conclusion, than a question.A frown marred my face, and I tried to understand what he was getting at. I hadn’t forgotten his little tantrum the first time I met Marvin. But this? It was so out of it. I had no idea what he was getting at, or what gave him the impression that I was after his half-brother or that I may have f
