ELARA’S POV

“Not what I think’? Things happened so fast, Elara. So fast,” Nico said, his voice laced with disbelief.

I felt trapped. I couldn’t lie to him, but I couldn’t risk telling him everything either.

“I guess your husband is really something, then,” he added sarcastically.

“He’s not my husband,” I snapped, the words escaping before I could stop myself.

Nico froze, his fork halfway to his mouth. Shock washed over his face, and for a moment, I thought he might drop it entirely.

That’s it. I said it.

Now there was no going back.

“What do you mean he’s not your husband?” he asked slowly, as though he didn’t quite trust what he was hearing.

I bit my lip, debating whether I should even go down this road. But if I didn’t, this misunderstanding would only get worse.

“It wasn’t real,” I said finally, lowering my gaze to the table. “The remarriage… it was just an act. A charade.”

“For what?” His voice was sharp, demanding. “Why the hell would you do something like that?”

I took a deep b

What happened at the villa was just for the week, and it’s over. Nate and I were never an item, and we never will be.”Nico’s eyes lock onto mine. Even through the heat of his anger, I can tell he knows I’m not lying. He lets out a long, weary sigh. “If you say so, then…”The indifference in his tone stings, but I know it’s just the anger talking. Nico has every right to be upset. I’ve never seen him this mad before, but I also know him well enough to trust that once his temper cools, he’ll see things more clearly. At least, that’s what I hope.“Nico,” I whine, dragging out his name. “It was awful of me not to tell you, and I’m sorry. Can we please put this behind us and just pretend it never happened?” I pout dramatically, batting my lashes in a way I know looks absolutely ridiculous.I catch the

ELARA'S POV As expected, the ice cream truck was right there on the side of the park. Nico and I each grabbed a cone before strolling through the park, chatting about almost anything we could think of.The cool evening breeze and the soft orange hues of the setting sun made the atmosphere feel peaceful and carefree.“Nico,” I said, breaking the silence as we passed a fountain.“Yes?” He turned his head toward me, his expression curious.“Uhm… can we keep the whole villa thing between us? I don’t want Elliot to find out. You know how dramatic he can be.” I rolled my eyes just thinking about how over the top Elliot could get.“I understand,” Nico said with a small smile, nodding in agreement.“Thank you,” I replied, relieved that he wasn’t going to make a big deal out of it.Before he could respond, his phone began to ring. The slight furrow in his brows told me it was work related. After a quick glance at the screen, he answered, his tone immediately shifting to professional.A few mi

ELARA'S POV“Everything is set. I even have a cab ready for you when you get to New York,” Jenna smirked, handing me my suitcase.“You can cancel it. I know how to find my way when I get there,” I replied, brushing off her insistence.Unlike the last time I was headed to New York, my chest didn’t feel like it was caving in. There was still a small knot of unease, but it wasn’t unbearable. Maybe it was because Elliot hadn’t protested this trip, and I didn’t feel like I was sneaking off. Or maybe it was because I was looking forward to seeing Mom again.“I can’t cancel it,” Jenna said with a shrug. “It’s supposed to be a surprise. I don’t even know why I told you about it.” She slapped her forehead dramatically.“It better not be one of those cringy welcome signs with balloons,” I warned, narrowing my eyes at her.“It won’t be,” she promised, but the amused twinkle in her eye told me otherwise.“If it is, I’m throwing you into a shark tank,” I teased, though a small smile tugged at my l

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    65: I DON’T THINK I CAN DO THIS

Elara’s POV I didn’t realize I had fallen asleep until I woke up. The first thing I noticed was the unfamiliar room. The walls were painted a soft gray, and the curtains were drawn, letting in only a sliver of light. It was quiet except for the faint buzzing sound of a phone somewhere in the room. I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes as I turned toward the sound. My phone. Reaching over to the nightstand, I picked it up and saw multiple notifications lighting up the screen. There were texts from unknown numbers, several voicemails from my mom and brother, and even a couple from Jenna. Then it all hit me, crashing down like a tidal wave. The reporters. The flashing cameras. The panic attack. And Nate. Nate, pulling me out of the chaos, taking me to the car. Shit. I knew it. He must have been the one to bring me here. I jumped out of bed, my heart racing as I clutched my phone. Just as I was trying to figure out what to do, the phone started ringing again. My mom. I hesitat

ELARA’S POV“We are not rushing into clarifying anything, Elara,” Nate said, his tone soft but firm. “Like I told you, my team is taking care of the pictures and the articles. Once they’re done, it’ll be like none of this ever happened.”I let out a long, frustrated sigh and sat on the edge of the bed.He made it sound so simple, but nothing about this situation felt simple to me. Even if his team managed to scrub the internet clean and silence the public, how would I explain this to my family? To Nico?It wasn’t just one lie anymore. It was a growing web of them. And every time I tried to fix things, I ended up spinning more lies to cover the first one.Running my hands through my hair, I groaned, frustration bubbling up inside me. “How long is this going to take?” I asked, my voice sharper than I intended.Nate glanced at his watch before meeting my eyes. “A few hours, maybe longer. They promised to handle it quickly, but we can’t rush them if we want it done right.”“Can I have my

And why did it feel like I was falling deeper into a game I didn’t understand? No Elara that’s none of your business. “Go on,” Nate muttered, his tone laced with irritation.“I just had a look at those pictures,” I began, watching his face closely for any sign of guilt. “And I’m curious… how did they get out? Who posted them?”His expression didn’t change, but I could tell I had his attention.“It’s also a little weird,” I added, stepping closer to him, “that in all those pictures, you don’t look even a little bit bothered. Hopefully, this time he’d get the message and leave me alone. But, as always, Nate proved to be as stubborn as ever.“Elara,” he called after me.Instead of heading back to the room like I initially planned, I turned sharply, walking toward the other direction, hopefully to the exit to this ridiculous apartment, condo, or whatever this over the top place was.“Where are you going?” he asked, catching up to me as I reached the stairs.“What do you think?” I spat, glaring at him. “I’m leaving. I’m not staying under the same roof as you for a second longer.”I turned to descend the stairs, but Nate grabbed my wrist, stopping me in my tracks. A jolt of electricity shot through me. Snatching my hand away, I stepped back, glaring daggers at him.“It’s not safe out there,” he said, his tone firm. “You can’t leave yet.”And th

His hand slightly brushed mine as he turns the iPad to me. “This is good,” Kyle murmurs, his voice low and thoughtful as he studies the design on my iPad. I try to swallow the sudden lump in my throat. Why the hell am I feeling nervous now? It’s just Kyle. Just a stupid couch. Just… expensive cologne and annoyingly attractive… Pull it together, Elara. “But I don’t think there’s an exact design like this here,” I say, clearing my throat and pointing toward a set of couches arranged nearby. “So, what if we swap it out for one of those? Just for the prototype, I mean. If you don’t like them, we could… maybe look somewhere else.” I lower my voice at the last part, just loud enough for him to hear. The last thing I wanted was to offend Mimi by talking about scouting o

ELARA’S POV The woman, who I assumed was Mrs. Jules wrapped Kyle in a quick hug the moment we walked in. “I never thought I’d see the day Kyle Sinclair showed up late,” she teased, pulling away from him with a warm laugh. Kyle frowned immediately, his eyes flicking to me with pointed accusation. I bit back the smile threatening to curl my lips, pretending to be entirely innocent. So petty, I thought, barely holding in a chuckle. “And you must be Kyle’s friend…?” she asked, turning her attention to me. “Elara,” I replied with a friendly smile. “Elara Westwood—” Before I could finish my introduction, she pulled me into a hug. “It’s so lovely to meet you, Elara. I’m Mimi Jules.” “It’s nice to meet you too, Mrs. Jules,” I said as we pulled apart. “Oh, no, darling, just call me Mimi,” she insisted with a bright smile. “We don’t have much time today,” Kyle cut in, his tone all business. “But if she likes the place, we’ll be back for a more in depth.” “Oh, of course

ELARA’S POVThe ride to the showroom wasn’t as awkward as I thought it would be.Even with Kyle awful silent, grumpy energy from the driver’s seat, I focused on my phone, trying my best to stay calm. Every now and then, I threw a glance in his direction to see if his mood had improved, but nope same stone cold scowl plastered on his annoyingly handsome face.“You can take a picture, you know,” he muttered out of nowhere.I raised a brow, keeping my expression innocent. “A picture of what?”“Stealing glances is kind of outdated,” he said smoothly, eyes still locked on the road. “Just take a picture. That way, you can stare at that instead of burning a hole in my head.”I gasped. “Excuse me? With what eyes did you even see me staring? You haven’t looked away from the road.”A smirk played on his lips. “Your stares are not exactly discreet.”I crossed my arms, refusing to let him get under my skin. “For the record, I was not staring at you. There’s nothing particularly interesting to lo

ELARA’S POV Taking another bite of my noodles, I rose to my feet, bowl in hand. “I’m gonna go take this call,” I told Elliot, who only gave me a nod before going back to whatever was on his phone. I headed for my room, kicking the door shut lightly with my foot as I slid my thumb across the screen to answer. The line connected, but for a few seconds, there was nothing. Just the sound of distant shuffling and movement on the other end. “Hello?” I said, adjusting the phone against my ear. Still no reply. “Kyle,” I tried again, dragging his name out. “If this is some weird prank call attempt, it’s really lame.” Finally, his voice came through low and a little rough. “Yeah. I’m here.” I blinked, dropping the bowl on my desk. “That’s how you start a phone call? You sound like someone just dragged you out of bed.” “I was working,” he muttered, clearly irritated. “Didn’t realize I had to sound like a radio host for you to take me seriously.” I couldn’t help but grin. “So… did you c

  • The Billionaire’s Regret    151: FIRST MEAL OF THE DAY

ELARA’S POV “I will,” I say with a small smile, hoping it’s enough to end the conversation. Elliot looks like he wants to press further, but before he can, Milla waltzes into the living room. “Hello, princess,” I coo, watching as she walks right past Elliot and heads straight for me. Without hesitation, I scoop her into my arms. For the past few days, she’s been hesitant with me. Unlike other cats, Milla hates being picked up when she’s doing her own thing. It has to be her choice, or she’ll either run away or threaten to claw me. So when she does come to me on her own? I never miss the opportunity to hold her. Elliot crosses his arms, watching us with mild curiosity. “And where did you get this?” “She was given to me.” I stroke Milla’s fur, and she lets out a satisfied purr. His brows knit together. “Let me guess… it’s that Ferrari-stuff friend again?” I bite down a smile. “Nope.” His eyes narrow slightly. “It’s not him?” “It’s not.” Elliot looks at me suspicio

ELARA’S POV “But Elliot…” “No buts, El. You are not going after her.” His grip tightens around my wrist, firm but not harsh. “Elliot, I need to explain to her,” I argue, my voice shaking, “I didn’t mean what I said the way she might’ve taken it. I was angry, and I just…” The words start tumbling over each other, lost in my frustration. “Elara…” His voice is calm, almost soothing, but it only makes the lump in my throat grow heavier. My eyelids burn as I blink rapidly, trying to clear my blurry vision. “You don’t understand, Elliot… I’ve never made anyone cry with my words before” I never let myself get that angry— to the point where my words just… take over. I’ve always been cautious with words, because I know being harsh with words tends to be. “I know… this might be a little too much for you” Elliot releases my wrist and to my complete shock, pulls me into his arms. I freeze. Elliot never does this. He’s protective, sure, but not that physical. It takes a lot for him to

ELARA’S POV “WHAT?” Jenna’s expression shifts, the sadness that clung to her face shattering in an instant. “You’re joking, right?” she lets out an awkward chuckle, her grip on my hands loosening. I take a slow breath, straightening my back. “As much as I wish I were, I’m not, Jen. I’m not going to the event with you.” My voice is steady, controlled. I refuse to let it shake. She blinks her jaw drops, Like she can’t believe what she just heard. “You’re serious?” she breathes out, shaking her head. “Elara, I need you there. I need someone I trust to help me get through it.” Her voice trembles slightly, but I don’t let it shake me. I already made my choice, I’m never going to unknowingly put my self in a situation where, Nathaniel hales is. I’m done with him, and I’m not going back on my words. Not this time not ever. I can’t break anymore of the promises I made to myself. “Jenna, I get that this is hard for you, I do, but—” “But what?!” she snaps, yanking her hands awa

ELARA’S POV I tried calling Jenna back, but of course, she doesn’t pick up. She spammed me with calls, yet now that I’m returning them, she’s ignoring me. Just great. I know it’s nothing urgent because I made sure to take care of anything that needed my attention before leaving the office. If it were important, she would have at least sent a text. The drive home is slow and quiet, the hum of the car engine the only sound accompanying me. By the time I pull up to the house, the sun has dipped below the horizon, leaving behind streaks of soft orange in the sky. As my car approaches the gate, I notice someone sitting outside, her back turned to me. I don’t need to get a closer look to know who it is. Jenna. But the real question is, why is she here? “Jenna?” I call out as I step out of my car. The last time she was here was months ago. Even though I’ve invited her over countless times, she always has an excuse, too busy, too tired, something came up. So Eventually, I stopped a

ELARA’S POV “And that’s a wrap,” Robert says with a satisfied smile as he closes the document. I exhale softly, returning his smile, though mine is much tighter. “I hope I don’t regret this.” Deep down, my pulse ticks faster than normal, and tiny knots form in the pit of my stomach. My gaze drifts to the man sitting across from me. Kyle, our eyes meet and I quickly look away. “You won’t,” Robert reassures me, pouring me a glass of champagne. His assurance brings a small, genuine smile from me. Yesterday, I finished reviewing the contract. Instead of a long term partnership, we settled on a temporary job agreement. If things go well within the next three months and I like how things go, we’ll proceed with signing the main contract. But if I don’t like it… then we’ll have to wait two more weeks before I’m able to pull out if the deal. Robert also had me add a clause: if I decide at any point during the trial period that I want to move forward with the partnership, I should i
