Harriet’s mind raced with possibilities as she sat in front of her doctor, waiting to hear the results of her pregnancy test, which she had just taken.
“Mrs Daniels. I am happy to inform you that you are three weeks pregnant.” The doctor said with a bright smile, and Harriet let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. “Oh!” She breathed out, her heart racing with joy and excitement. With a marriage like her and Damien’s, the last thing she could wish for was a child, but God had other plans for her. “T-thank you, doctor. Thank you so much.” She cried as she placed her hand on her chest, unable to contain her happiness. She could not wait to tell her husband, Damien, this great news. As Harriet hurried to leave the hospital, all she could think about was how this child in her womb would be a turning point for her and Damien’s failing marriage. As much as she hated to admit it, it was true. In their three years of marriage, Harriet has never felt the joy of marriage. What did she expect? She had always been in love with Damien since childhood, but it was never the case for him. He never looked at her with love and was only with her because of his parents. As much as she hated to admit, she knew that their marriage was bound to fail, but things might be different now with the child in her womb. It had to be a miracle. Harriet entered her car and sat for a while, fiddling with her phone as she dialed Damien’s number. Butterflies swarmed in her tummy, and her face glowed as a bright smile stuck to them. She waited for a while, but still no response from him. She dropped the phone. It was a weekday, so he must have been loaded with much office work. She was used to making excuses for him, but when she was about to drive off, Damien called her back. Feeling jittery about telling him, Harriet picked up the call. “D-damien. H-how are you doing? Are you at the house? I need to tell you something.” She bit her lips nervously and played with her fingers, hoping for a small talk before she told him about her pregnancy, but she should have known not to expect too much from him. “Where are you? I also have something to tell you: Come home…now.” His tone was low and cold like always, and before she could ask him what the problem was, the line beeped, signifying that he had ended the call. Harriet felt a tight knot in her chest at his cold behavior. Why was she even surprised? He had always been this way. Why did she expect him to change suddenly? She felt tears brimming in her eyes, but she quickly blinked it away. The last thing she wanted was her mood to get ruined after hearing such fantastic news. So, she promptly ignited the car engine and drove off. Throughout the ride, she wondered what Damien wanted to talk about, as he never paid her much attention. As she drove in, she noticed that Damien’s car was already parked, meaning he was home. She took one look at the pregnancy test documents and assured herself that everything would be fine before going into the house. When she arrived, Damien was seated in the living room with a frown. She had never seen him smile unless he was with his parents or…Evelyn. All she ever got from him was a frown, scowl, or a look of disgust. “Damien. When did you get home?” She asked, putting a smile on her face. But she was heartbroken once again, and a harsh glare from Damien greeted her. Damien stood up from where he sat and approached her. For some reason that she couldn’t understand, his eyes were red with anger. “I want a divorce!” Her husband, Damien Daniels, towered over her as he yelled, his body shaking in anger. “W-what are you talking about? A divorce? Why?” Harriet’s voice broke, and her chest tightened, pain enveloping her. She couldn’t believe her ears. Why was Damien suddenly bringing up a divorce? What had she done? “Just sign the paper. It is good for both of us.” Damian said coldly. Harriet didn’t know what could be wrong and she would not end their marriage like that but Damian refused to talk further. “How could you tell me that without a proper reason? I won’t sign it unless you tell me why.” Harriet was in a breakdown. She was just about to share great news with her husband but things took a dramatic turn suddenly. “I really want to end this marriage peacefully for the sake of our families’ relationship, but you just won’t let me, right?” said Damien with a sneer. Damien drew his eyes at her and chuckled darkly, showing his anger. His eyes held nothing but hatred for her. “You think I wouldn’t find out that you have been sleeping with my brother?” He said.“This isn’t possible!” She yelled. It was a picture of her and Adrian lying naked in each other’s arms on a bed. From the picture angle, it looked like they were being intimate. Adrian towered above her, and the lady underneath him resembled her. She had never slept in the same room as Adrian, so how was this possible? Someone set her up! With a frown, Harriett defended herself. “This isn’t true. It can’t be!” Damien didn’t want to hear any explanation from her. He felt betrayed, and the only thing he wanted was for her to leave his life. “The picture is pretty clear, Harriett. Don’t you think you should give up? You must’ve thought you could keep it a secret forever. Why didn’t you marry Adrian if you loved him so much? Instead, you’d rather go behind me and sleep with him.” Damien shot back, his voice not faltering. “I don’t love Adrian. I never have. Why would I agree to marry you if I was in love with your brother?” Harriett asked in a whisper, hot tears slipping out of her
Later that night, Harriet tossed and turned on her lonely bed. It was already 1am but, she couldn’t get herself to sleep no matter how hard she tried. Whenever she closed her eyes, all she could hear was Damien accusing her of cheating with none other than Adrian and also asking for a divorce. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying throughout the whole day. She needed comfort from someone because her heart felt like it would explode but, her husband wasn’t home. After leaving in the afternoon, he never returned home and Harriet knew that he was spending the night at Evelyn’s place. She wasn’t surprised. This was a regular occurrence. The next morning as Harriet sat at the breakfast table…alone as always, a strange thought came to her, one that gave her a tiny last hope. She wanted to fight for her marriage for the last time. She thought that he must be too angry to process everything and she wanted to explain with a last-ditch effort to try and save their marriage. She nee
Damien sat in the private room of an expensive club together with his best buddy, Eric. He had been staying at a hotel since he left the house as he didn’t want to see the face of his cheating wife. His grey-colored eyes narrowed at his drink as he clenched his jaws before gulping the entire glass of whiskey. His eyes lingered on the empty glass before he finally opened his mouth. “Harriett cheated…with Adrian. I’m getting a divorce.” There was an eerie silence, and Damien had to raise his head to look at his friend just to be sure he heard him. Eric had a blank expression on his face that made Damien wonder if he knew about it. “Wait. You’re being serious?” Eric asked when he saw that Damien wasn’t joking. A chuckle escaped his lips, and he sipped from his glass. “Did you catch them in the act?” Eric asked, placing the glass at the tip of his lips, and Damien shook his head. “No. Someone caught them and sent the picture to me.” Damien said through gritted teeth, but Eric sta
“I’m sorry to disturb you, Ma’am, but your friend is here to see you.” The maid said, poking her head into the room. She knocked but realized Harriet wouldn’t open up since she had been in a bad mood lately. “A friend?” Harriet asked in a low voice that almost went unheard by the maid. ‘Who could it be?’ She thought and dashed out without waiting for the maid to finish her sentence. When she arrived at the sitting room, she was both confused and angry as she saw Evelyn James, her husband’s mistress, sitting on the sofa with her legs crossed. “Evelyn? What are you doing here?” Harriet struggled to maintain her calm. How could she when she was in the presence of the woman who ruined her marriage? “Harriet! Good to see you! I know you are shocked by my visit, especially with everything happening.” Evelyn said, faking a sad expression at the latter part of her sentence. Harriet was mad! Red with anger and furious. She had barely recovered from the divorce, and now Evelyn was
As Damien pulled the divorce papers out, he noticed a small object in the envelope, and when he brought it out, his face saddened as he saw that it was their wedding ring. “She went this far?” He muttered, accessing the ring on his finger before looking at the shiny diamond ring his father got for her. Damien went from heartbroken to angry in two seconds, and before he could stop himself, he signed the papers. He felt like he lost this battle to her when she was at fault. How could she have signed the papers before he did? Yes, he mentioned the divorce to her and disappeared for a few days, but couldn’t she wait to hear from him before processing the divorce? Damien was confused. He was supposed to be relieved with her gone, but why did his chest feel tight instead? It’s not like he ever loved her. Right? His father would be furious with him if he were to find out. But then, he could always tell them that she cheated. That’s what happened, after all. He was no devi
“Finalize the deal with the second company on the list. They are a better choice.” Damien said, walking out of the plane with two bodyguards and his secretary behind. He had just returned from Hong Kong from a business trip and was now heading to his house. The eye bags around his eyes were covered with a dark shade, giving him an icy look instead of a gloomy one. Damien’s steps were interrupted as he stumbled into something….someone rather. It was a child. The child looked no older than five years, and he looked lost. The little boy looked at him, and Damien felt his chest tighten. The little boy had gray eyes and reminded him of himself when he was younger. He quickly shook the strange thought and stopped his bodyguards from shooing the child away. “What’s your name, cutie?” He asked with a smile, and the boy looked around, his mouth quivering like he would cry at any moment. “Are you lost?” Damien changed the question when he saw that the child was scared and was in no
Damien sat in his room, his eyes pale as usual. It was his best friend’s wedding, but he couldn’t share his happiness. How could he when his world was dark? It had been that way since she left four years ago. After countless failed efforts at finding her, Damien finally gave up and became a shell of himself. He was barely living, only surviving. One thing he did very well was drown himself in his work. It was the only thing that kept him alive. He also focused on it with all his might with the hope that it would take his mind off her. It didn’t work, of course. He stayed away from any public gatherings and even avoided his own family. To him, it was a way of punishing himself for what he did to her. But Eric was his friend, and his feelings didn’t matter. It was a joyous occasion, and so he wasn’t going to ruin it for Eric. So, he would attend the wedding and share in his friend’s joy. “I can’t believe you’re finally settling down, man. Your wife is something.” Damien said
Damien thought his heart would explode as his hand touched her skin. He couldn’t believe that she was standing in front of him. After four whole years of looking for her, he was sure that she had escaped to another planet. But, she had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. “Harriet?” He breathed out, his heart pounding harshly against his chest as he looked into her eyes. “It is you. You are here. God, Harriet! How have you been?” He said with ragged breathing. “Where did you go, Harriet? I looked everywhere for you. Did you leave the country? Was that why I couldn’t find you?” He rapped, still holding her tightly. He was so excited to see her that he didn’t notice that she had been silent the entire time, only staring at him coldly. When she opened her mouth to speak, he could only focus on her voice, which he had missed for four years. “I’m sorry? Who do you think you are? What gives you the right to ask me these things, huh?” She said with a scoff, but Damien shook his head an
“What just happened?” Rachael said as soon as he walked out. She had been eavesdropping on their conversation for a while. Not that you could blame her. They were being extremely loud so she didn’t even have to try. “Not now, Rachael.” He groaned, dragging his feet to the minibar. “Don’t walk away from me, Tony. Not after what just happened!” She scolded, pulling him back by his arms. She stepped in front of him and let out a frustrated sigh, running her hand through her hair. “I swear, you both stress the fuck out of me.” She hissed. “Listen, I don’t care what she did to you, all I know is that she’s not leaving this house. You’re acting rashly because you’re angry. When you calm down, you’re going to hate yourself so, you’re going to take a break in my room and have a long nap while I speak to Lily. When you wake up, you can speak to her again. At least you’ll be a lot calmer then.” She said, rubbing the side of his arms assuringly. Tony groaned but succumbed and walked away, st
After his conversation with Rachael, Tony returned to Lily but she was nowhere to be found. The sound of running water in the bathroom informed him that she was having a shower. He then decided to leave so that she could have some privacy but, as he was about to leave, his phone rang.Looking at the caller, his jaw tightened in anger. It was Louis. After a few rings, he picked up but said nothing, waiting for him to speak.“Tony! I have great news.” He started and Tony hummed, walking out of Lily’s room as he didn’t want her knowing he was involved with Louis.“I just had a meeting with Mehdi.” Tony paused in his tracks and he wondered if he had judged Louis wrongly. Was he really going to tell him about his conversation with Mehdi? If that was the case then, Louis might not be as bad as he thought.“Really? What was it about?” He asked, now in his room. He shut the door and sat at the edge of the bed, listening attentively to Louis.“Well, I managed to get on his good books once aga
Tony sat on his bed, his AirPods plugged in and Lily sleeping peacefully on his lap. He had been making plans on how to bring Mehdi to justice with the help of Louis when his phone beeped, telling him that Louis was on the move. He initially ignored it as Louis was always on the move but when he saw where his location was, he took out his AirPods and listened in on their conversation. At first, he thought it was a part of Louis’s plan to help him out and probably get something on Mehdi but, as he listened in, he realized that he was wrong.Louis was betraying him a few hours after their conversation. Not that he didn’t expect it. Men like Louis weren’t to be trusted and he knew that. The only reason he was too bothered initially was because he knew he had Louis’s phone tapped so if he tried to deceive him, he would already be aware.“Well, that was quicker than expected.” He whispered and chuckled lightly before carefully taking Lily’s head to a pillow and leaving the room.“Rachael!”
“It’s the fucking Snakers, man.” Immediately the words left Raphael’s mouth, Tony's shoulders fell and his head dropped to the headboard.“And I hired him into my company without knowing about this.” He hissed, ruffling his hair out of anger and annoyance.“I should have been more careful for fuck’s sake. I put her life in danger by not being careful enough.”“That’s in the past now though, man. She’s out of danger and now we know not to be careless with things like this.” Raphael cut him off, to stop Tony from blaming himself.Tony nodded and returned his hands to the steering wheel. “You’re right. What I have to do now is find him and make sure he apologizes to her. Knowing Lily, she’s probably losing her mind right now thinking something bad has happened to him.” He said with a stressed sigh.“I can imagine how betrayed she’d feel when she learns the truth.” He added. “Anyway, thank you for your help, Raphael. I really appreciate it.” He thanked him and ended the call.**“I swear
Later that day….Tony walked into the private booth of a famous club a few minutes away from his house, where he had agreed to meet with his guest. He was ushered in by a waiter who pointed to the guest who had been waiting, his back to Tony.Tony thanked the waiter and headed to the couch where his guest was seated. As soon as he got there, the face of the guest lighted up and he leaned forward.“I was shocked to learn that you wanted us to meet. I was convinced it was a prank but, seeing you here, It’s obvious I was wrong.” He said with a smirk on his lips.“Like I said, this meeting is overdue. It has been on my mind for a while now.” Tony replied, his face as hard as stone. He then exhaled and leaned forward.“I have an offer for you, Louis.” He said calmly and Louis’s eyes widened but he quickly composed himself and crossed his legs.“You’re not going to give me money and tell me to stay away from Lily, are you? You should know that’s not going to work by now.” He laughed, his to
TWO HOURS BEFORE THE VISIT TO THE POLICE STATION “Do you think going to see the commissioner is going to change anything? He has probably been bought over by Mehdi or one of the big politicians involved in Mehdi’s dirty business. You might be putting yourself at risk by going there.” Raphael said over the phone to Tony who was now sitting in his car, about leaving for the police station. After their first call, Raphael called again a few minutes later. “But I have to do something, man. I can’t let that prick keep getting away every damn time.” Tony sighed, hitting his steering wheel angrily. “I suggest we come up with a plan then. We lost one of our best chances to catch him for good which was when you found Lily in his basement. It would have been game over if you had a spy camera to film the whole thing or, even better, cover its life. That way, he won’t be able to lie his way out and it would be game over for everyone in it with him cause I am a hundred percent sure he wouldn’t
Lily stirred awake, her body feeling lighter than the previous day. She looked around the room and noticed that it was awfully quiet and Tony was nowhere to be found. She was sure he had slept next to her.“He might be downstairs.” She thought as she headed to the bathroom to get freshened up and ready for the day. She knew that there was no point in going to the hospital as Tony had made it abundantly clear the previous day that she would be staying away from the hospital for a while. She agreed with him. She wasn’t ready to relive the previous day. When she was done, she headed downstairs dressed in casual jean shorts and a black t-shirt to match.Entering the dining room, she was met with Rachael who had her utensils in hand but her mind was elsewhere.“Rachael?” Lily called out softly but it fell on deaf ears. She cleared her throat and called again, waving her hands before her face this time around.“Rachael…” This time around, Rachael blinked and looked up.“Oh, Lily.” She calle
Tony looked at Lily and sighed once again. She looked weak and tired. Her clothes had been stained and rumpled thanks to the floor Mehdi left her on. “She needs a bath.” Rachael pointed out as if reading his mind. “Hmm.” Tony nodded. “What do we do then? Wake her up? She looks really tired though.” He said in a calm voice, sounding exhausted himself. “I’ll be gentle with her. She needs a bath to help her sleep properly. If she goes to bed like this she’ll only wake up much later. You know Lily is a clean freak.” Rachael added when she saw that Tony didn’t want to wake Lily up because of how tired she looked. “I don’t know…” He sighed but Rachael touched his arm and smiled assuringly. “Don’t worry, Tony. I’ll be gentle with her and I’ll make she doesn’t hit her head on a “Alright then. I’ll take a shower myself and come back in an hour.” Tony said before leaving the room. Once he was out, Rachael tapped Lily lightly until she stirred in her sleep. Her eyelids fluttered and slowly
“We finally meet, Draco. I have been trying to catch you for years.” Rico said with a smirk as he pulled out his police ID and shoved it in Mehdi’s face. Rico was a detective who had been in charge of a few cases that related to the Snakers gang and each time he thought he was finally close to catching them, he was faced with a stumbling block even his superiors advised and warned him against going them. After several failed attempts at getting them, he realized that the problem was their leader. He understood that the gang leader was someone powerful which was why everyone in the police force, including the commander was scared to touch him. He knew if they really wanted to, they would have caught them a long time ago. It annoyed him to see that they were turning a blind eye to the killing and crisis the gang caused daily just because their leader was someone powerful. Just a few months ago, he also found out that they were involved in the massive human trafficking of young
