Chapter 23

After the exhausting planning for our wedding, I find myself alone inside Jaxson's office then again.

I'm not sure whether my responses to the wedding coordinator are completely right because I'm not familiar with any of them. I just chose whatever sounds familiar to me. Then I pondered why there were far too tiny food portions and asked if there was a whole meal that could fill the entire plate because the servings that they would give to the guest appeared to be for a taste test only. They were taken aback by what I said and looked at me as if they couldn't believe it, but they pledged to show me other options tomorrow.

The wedding design I chose was simply based on what I personally preferred. I'm just not sure if Jaxson will like it as much as I do. But, as he had said, it is up to me to make the decision, so perhaps he will not be upset with those I choose. I can't wait to see how he reacts on the wedding day. The only thing that mattered to him was that we could get through the wedding day and a year as quickly as possible.

I realized that the sun had gone down and it was already dark outside. The lights outside the building are also turned on, and there is no denying that the view is dazzling. When I first got here, I felt lightheaded and tingling on my feet because of how high it is from the glass window that is enough to make the people down there look like ants. Yet, I guess it has grown on me and has become my favorite area inside Jaxson's office.

I simply walked over to Jaxson's table and decided to tidy up the papers that had strewn anywhere as well as his personal items. After I finished putting the papers together and fixing it, I decided to sit in Jaxson's chair.

My fingers deliberately crawled to the small drawer beneath the table and carefully opened it out of curiosity.

I was surprised to discover a box still wrapped with ribbon. It’s white and I think it’s a gift. It's only played in two colors: silver and white, and I'm guessing it's a gift for someone that hasn't been opened yet.

“Hmm?” I mused.

For a split second, my sight strayed to the door, wondering if Jaxson had already returned because he may get furious if he did because of my hands' kinkiness and curiosity. After making sure there were no more footsteps, I returned my attention to the box and flipped it around to find the letter for whom the present was meant.

“For whom is this gift?”I wondered aloud to myself. “D?” I averted my eyes away from the gift as a sudden thought struck me after seeing only one letter and a small heart on top of it. “D..? I can only think of one D that has anything to do with Jaxson... Wait... Is this for Daniella? But what it is doing inside the-”

“What are you doing?”

I started panicking when I suddenly heard Jaxson's voice. He was standing at the door, staring intently at my hands, which were still holding the present. I quickly stuffed it back into his drawer before standing up to cover it behind me.

“S-Sorry, I didn’t mean to meddle with your thing. It’s just that-”

“Did you like it?”

My brows came together in response to the question he had let out “Huh? What are you saying? I mean, sure the box looks kinda pretty. But, if you ask me to have it again, I will strongly refuse. This gift is not intended for me.”

“Throw it away if you don't like it. I won't be needing it any longer.” He answered sparingly and rudely before walking inside.

I just stared at him and didn't say anything.

I have no intention of taking that present because he did not get it for me. He bought it while having Daniella inside his heart and mind. I assume Jaxson bought it before things got rough with Daniella, and he never had a chance to hand it to her when their relationship fell apart.

It's just a shame because I believed the present was really quite expensive and elegant. It would be such a waste to throw it so maybe I'll just leave that on Jaxson's desk and let him decide what he's going to do with it. He can throw it himself if he really wants to, but I won't be doing it for him.

“Are you ready to leave?”

I just nodded at him with a smile in response. I have a hunch Jaxson is really exhausted tonight. His pale face and weary eyes reveal how low he has fallen.

“Hey, did something happen at the meeting?” I asked, with a tone of concern trying to make Jaxson speak his mind to somehow release the weight on his shoulders.

His eyes glanced up to me, and the second our gazes connected, my heart sank in sorrow. Why do I feel terrible whenever Jaxson appears to be miserable, as if our emotions are deeply entwined?

Everytime I see his eyes with sadness and lethargy, I also feel sad too and just want to squeeze him into a tight hug to take away all the frustration from him. But every time I saw him smile, I couldn't stop myself from raising the corners of my mouth in ecstasy. I like to watch him in his silliness rather than with slumped shoulders.

I suppose I've fully gained empathy for this man.

“I've already told Gunther that he shouldn't wait for us and should go home.”

He chose to avoid answering my question before placing the papers on his table and fixing the suit that he is wearing.

I'm hoping I can come up with a way to make him forget about Daniella forever. In some ways, I was confident that I wouldn't be hurt. I'll make sure to come up with an idea tomorrow.

“We will be going out tonight without guards, so remember not to let go of my hand.”

“U-Uh?” I stuttered, bewildered by what he said.

He edged closer to me and quickly took my hand in his.

“I said, remember not to let go of my hand,” he repeated in a croaky voice, with his mischievous eyes staring right into mine.

When I finally composed myself from being flabbergasted by what he did, my hand flew up to his face and clutched his forehead.

“Why are you being like this to me again? Are you drunk? Have a fever, or what?”

Jaxson softly pulled my hand away from his face.

“Let's just stay like this and hold my hand because we're going out there and everyone will be watching us. Would you like them to doubt our relationship?”

My head tilted a bit because Jaxson didn’t seem to convince me. “Don't you think not joining me earlier with the wedding coordinator is more strange than not holding hands while walking in public-”

“Cattleya.” He slash my words when he used his other hand to cover my mouth. “I am fucking tired. So can you please, just listen to me?”

My head just nodded because he still wouldn't take his hand out of my mouth.

“Alright, let's go out.”

Jaxson was right when he said that we will be greeted by the employees' eyes. But it's nothing like the stares I got earlier. They aren't staring as fiercely at me anymore, perhaps because Jaxson is with me and they respect him as their boss.

“Does this also mean that you will be driving for the two of us.” I said, recalling that he had told me that tonight would be just the two of us.

Jaxson merely bobbed his head at the same time as his feet came to a halt, bringing my steps in a sudden stop.

“Ouch," I grumbled. “Why did you stop suddenly? My face always lands on your back. " I complained to him, but I was confused to see that his eyes were drawn in one direction. I traced his eyes to check what it is that he is staring at.

My mouth fell open when I saw Lance and Daniella inside their car, making out.

“What the hell...?” I grumbled beneath my breath. What kind of debauchery are they committing? I'm sure that they know exactly where they should be doing this. At this point, Jaxson should have realized that these two were doing this on purpose to sabotage his strategy. Perhaps if Jaxson chose to get drunk today, I would no longer look after him and instead get really frustrated with him.Even though I know he's hurt, he'll make a fool of himself if he gets hurt by what they're doing. Obviously they are just doing that for the show. As the two give each other greater pleasure, I shut my eyes in disgust.I gently pulled Jaxson's arm, hoping to get his attention in some way. After all, this is why I came to his workplace. I had no idea what was going on around me or what Jaxson's reaction was because I kept my eyes shut. When I felt my hand stretch as Jaxson continued to walk, my eyes widened. I attempted to look for Jaxson's eyes to look at it, but I couldn't see his face. When we

I wasn't expecting Jaxson to be popular not only at his company but also everywhere. And I have officially confirmed it after being met with glances as soon as we walk inside the mall. There were also security guards who approached us and offered Jaxson if he wanted security for safe shopping and lodging in their mall. However, he declined it, as I predicted. I am starting to feel conscious of how people gape at us whenever we pass by them. I'm not sure if it was because they know Jaxson and he is famous, or it’s his appearance and how he shines out in a crowd that they are acting this way. Honestly, I can't even deny that this man is quite attractive. “Wait,” I murmured meekly to the man beside me, who was still grasping my hand and the laptop he had gotten for me in the other. “Am I the only person in this country who doesn't know who you are? How come people know you everywhere? You're not a celebrity, slash a model, slash a chairperson… Are you?” I heard Jaxson's feeble scoff,

“Go grab yours,” I urged quietly to Jaxson as I lifted a tray full of food. But he just stared at me, puzzled, as if he didn't get what I was saying. “Why are you the one carrying that, Cattleya?” He asked. “Of course, Jax, no one else is going to do it for us. Now, hurry up and carry that so we can find a seat and make the customers next to us get their food too.” “Are you serious...?” He mumbled as his eyes shifted behind us, seeing the line stretched clear around the corner, so he had no choice but to slowly approach the tray of food and gently carry it as I said. “Can’t I just call some staff and ask for assistance?” I started laughing quietly because of how Jaxson ended up looking now. I tried my hardest earlier to contain my laughter so he wouldn't be embarrassed, but I couldn't help myself and burst out laughing at the way he carried the tray with a puzzled expression on his face. I caught a quick look at people secretly snapping photos of him and also trying to hide their

“Hey, you'll end up harming your throat if you do that. Bottoms up, this isn't an alcoholic beverage to swallow all at once-” I was interrupted by knocks on the window. I saw a little boy as I turned my head on my left side. The baby girl we met earlier was exactly the same age as this one. Why are we being targeted by children today? When the boy gestured as if begging for food, and rubbing his stomach, my heart was broken into pieces. I shifted my gaze to Jaxson to see his reaction, but he was just staring straight back at the child. I couldn't tell what was on his mind, so I just waited for him to do anything. I searched for any food on the table and found a piece of burger that I haven’t touched yet. I took it in my hands and began to rise from my seat, wanting to give it to the little boy through the back door. Jaxson surprised me when he stood up and began to walk straight to the back door near us because there's also an exit here that is closer to the boy outside. “Hey,” J

My feet were propped up on the bed's end seat. I just realized I haven't gotten any sleep since last night. I guess I unconsciously drank a drum of coffee because I didn't feel drowsy at all. I'm not really sure why I've remained awake and active till now. After going home from the mall, I'm currently here in Jaxson’s room. He had been silent while we were driving home. I kept asking him questions and assuring him that we will go back there and see if we can treat the child next time because he looked so disappointed. Jaxson was sitting on the sofa near the bedside table with tons of documents and a laptop in front of him, as I rested on his bed and watched him. “It's far too late, and you're still at it. You've just gotten home from work, yet you're still working nonstop instead of resting. You are so dedicated,” I commented. But Jaxson didn't even bother to look at me as he sipped his coffee and kept his eyes fixed on the papers. I was a bit disappointed, so I just decided t

Who are you talking to? I didn’t catch a glimpse of it.” He asked me as his eyes were on the laptop that rested on my thigh. “I bought this for you for your studies, why are you just talking to someone? “Okay, now. Photos like this are really popular these days. Like the person didn't come prepared but the shot was very nice and natural!” I notice that the more I give compliments to Jaxson, the more he smiles and becomes confident in himself. So, I guess I should always come prepared to shower him lots of compliments.“Alright, let’s complete your profile and we're ready to go!” I exclaimed as I waited for his profile photo to be uploaded.“Can I see?” Jaxson asked as he slightly got up from the bed to look at the screen. “So, after the circle fills up. People will see my photo, right?”I nodded to him in response then I handed him his phone so that he could press friendsbuck by himself and so that he could learn how to use it as well.“There,” I muttered. “Your photo will now be visible for the public and I hope they won’t speculate it as another fan account. That photo I uploaded was exclusive!”“Yeah. Where can they find a photo of me lying in bed with a slightly unbuttoned shirt?

“Build Baby..? We went there?” I asked as I can’t remember that Jaxson and I went there earlier and why would we shop for baby supplies?“Yes, Ms. Daniella. You dropped by our shop about a week ago and shopped for your baby. The baby supplies are now packed well and are ready to be shipped. The only information we need to get is the delivery date that you prefer. It can happen either before or after you give birth.”“Ms. Daniella...?” I muttered aloud with a tone of disbelief.“Yes, Ms. Is there any problem?”“Did Jaxson also come to shop for baby products?” I said emphatically while waiting for the answer of the woman I was talking to on the other line. It seemed like she was surprised because of the sounds I was hearing on her end.“Yes, Ms. Daniella. You came with Mr. Madrigal to shop for your baby supplies together.” She answered with a bit of hesitation. “Is there something wrong Ms? You seem to be having difficulty remembering what happened just a week ago.”“This is not Daniella

He will eventually find out that I can’t walk. “— Also, you won’t stay here with me all day even if you don’t go to your office. I have a call from Miranda agency that we have costume fitting today.” It’s not entirely a lie because the agency called me early in the morning that I have to be there with Daniella.I am planning to go regardless of what she can do to me. And what I am thinking of, is to sneak out this house with the help of Richard. Besides, he won’t suspect that Daniella did it to me because it seems to be an accident when I fall off my shoes.
