“Miesa Devane.” Doctor Mirabelle’s secretary called.
“Yes Ma’am.” She stood up.
“Come with me please.” She waved her over.
Miesa smiled at Beth who smiled back and she left the class. She hoped doctor Mirabelle had good news for her because she couldn’t wait any longer.
“You can go in Miesa.” The secretary told her when they got to the doctor’s office.
“Thank you.” Miesa smiled then she knocked on the door, waited for a reply before she went into the office.
“Come in Miesa!”. Mirabelle said. "I have good news for you.”
Miesa closed the door and walked over to the desk. “Really?”. She beamed.
“You were so right about what you told me." Mirabelle opened her top drawer and brought out a file.
Miesa sat down on the chair bouncing with excitement. If it was good news then it could mean only one thing but she didn't want to put her hopes up.
Mirabelle opened the file and took a paper from it. “Well this here says that Cesari Sandoval is 99.9% your biological father.”
~Flashback~
Miesa kept staring at Cesar and her mother talking and laughing about something that was way over her head.
She sighed wistfully as she watched them and wished that they were really a family. It would be so wonderful to have a father like Cesari Sandoval and she just wasn’t thinking that because he was rich - far from it…he’d be there to tell her stories every night and even if he had to travel, she’d make sure he could still tell her stories on the phone.
That would be lit!.
Cesar picked up his glass to take a sip of water but it slipped from his hand, fell to the floor and shattered.
Cesar bent forward to start picking up the pieces but one of the bigger pieces cut him and he hissed in pain.
“Oh be careful.” Ellie said. "Mimi go get me the first aid kit.”
“Yes mom.” She got up and left the dining room.
“Sorry.” Cesar apologized, looking sheepish.
“It’s fine." Ellie smiled.
Mimi returned with the first aid kit and watched as her mother cleaned up the wound and bandaged it up.
Mimi eyed the bloody antiseptic wipes on the table. This was exactly what she needed to get a DNA test done but how was she going to go about it?.
“Hey mom..I’ll dispose of these.” She pointed to the wipes.
“Thanks sweetie.” Ellie smiled at her.
Mimi took a napkin from the table, picked up the wipes gingerly and left the dining room. She rushed upstairs to her room carefully avoiding the creaky stairs so her mother wouldn’t hear.
She dropped the napkin with the wipes on her bedside table and went to search her bag for the plastic bag doctor Mirabelle had given her and when she found it, deposited the wipes inside and kept the bag in the deep recesses of her school bag.
She went to wash her hands and snuck out of her room. She returned to the dining area and met her mom at the sink while Cesar was no where to be found.
“Mom..where’s Cesar?”. She asked.
“He had to leave sweetie. Have you disposed of the bloody wipes?”.
“Yes mom. Um..can I use the telephone please?”.
“Sure. You want to call Beth?”.
“Yes.”
“Oh! before I forget..I got you a little something.” Ellie sent her a secretive smile.
“What is it?”. Mimi asked looking excited.
“I’ll be right back.” Ellie raised a finger telling her to hold on and she left.
Ten minutes later she returned with a wrapped package and handed it to her.
“What is this?”. Mimi raised an eyebrow.
“Open it.” Ellie said.
Mimi tore open the wrapper and another one then a third one which made her laugh before she finally got to her present and let out an excited squeal of delight.
“You got me a phone!”. She exclaimed in shock.
“Well it was Cesar who told me to get it for you.”
“Really?!thank you Mom!”. She hugged her tight. "I love you so so very much!”.
“I love you too baby." Ellie chuckled. "You have to do your homework first before you start using it do you understand?”.
“Yes. I pinky promise.” There wasn't anything she wouldn't do right now because of this. She had her own freaking personal phone.
“That’s my girl.” Ellie ruffled her hair and turned back to the sink.
“Can I use it now though? I’d like to call Beth and tell her.”
“Sure baby.”
Mimi skipped out of the kitchen and went upstairs to her room. She opened her bedside drawer and took out her phone book where she’d written Beth’s house telephone number then she dialed the number on her new phone when she saw it and pressed the call button.
The telephone rang twice before someone picked up. It was Beth’s older brother Ghale.
“Williams residence. Who is this please?”. He asked.
“Hey G,it’s Miesa.” She giggled.
“Hey Ghale’s princess!how you doing mama?”.
“I’m fine. And you?.”
“Now that you’ve called princess..I’m better than fine.” He said.
Mimi chortled. “I want to speak with Beth please.”
“Hold on. Hey Bee!phone for you!”. He called out to his little sister. "It’s Mimi.”
“Hey Mimi.” Beth greeted.
“Hey Beth guess what?”.
“Um..you’ve finally gotten the stuff done?”.
“Yes. But that’s not what I want you to guess. It’s something else.”
“Uh..you’re finally going to America?”.
Mimi laughed. “No silly! Mom got me a new phone!.”
“Really?! Are you serious?!”. Beth exclaimed. "You’re not pulling my legs are you?”.
“No I’m not. I swear. She told me Cesar asked her to buy it for me and she did!.”
“Wow. Mr Sandoval is really cool.” Beth said
“I have to go now Kay? I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Sure and bring your phone with you.” Beth said.
“Kay kay." Mimi giggled and hung up.
~Monday at School~
“Doctor Mirabelle!”. Miesa called running after her when she saw her going to the teacher’s lounge.
“Hello Miesa." Mirabelle greeted and stopped walking.
“Morning ma’am.”
“Morning dear. Can I help you?”.
“Um..I have what we talked about?”. Miesa said.
“Oh really?." She looked around in the hallway but they were alone. "Give it to me.”
Miesa took out the plastic bag from her skirt pocket and handed to Mirabelle who quickly put it inside her white coat.
“Five days?”. She asked to be sure.
“Let’s say a week. Since it’s dried blood.”
“Kay. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome sweetie.” Mirabelle smiled and walked away.
“Yes!”. Miesa fist pumped the air and left.
~flashback ends~
“He’s my Dad.” Miesa said, not quite believing it. She'd thought that him being her uncle would have been okay but this was so much more. They shared the same DNA.
“Yes Miesa, he’s your father.”
A huge smile broke out on Miesa’s face as she rose from her seat, skirted the desk and hugged Mirabelle around her middle shocking her.
“Thank you ma’am! Thank you so much for everything! You’re heaven sent ma’am!”.
“You’re welcome Miesa. I’m glad to be of help.”
Miesa released her and wiped the tears on her face. She didn’t even know she’d started crying.
Mirabelle folded the paper and put it in an envelope for her and sealed it then handed it to Miesa.
“Here you go darling. It’s all yours.”
Miesa took it and clutched it to her chest like a treasure.
She now had a father of her own too. It was the best feeling in the world.
“Will you tell your parents?”. Mirabelle asked.
“Not yet.”
“Okay dear good luck.”
“Thank you. I will need it.” Miesa smiled gratefully then left the office. She kept the envelope in her jacket pocket, thanked the secretary and left.
“Sweet girl.” Mirabelle shook her head smiling fondly.
Miesa sat in class with her chin resting on her palm. Her feet bounced on the floor as she waited for her mother to walk through the door. Her teacher Miss Valerie was talking to someone on the phone by the window and she was looking out so Miesa took out the envelope from her bag and admired it again for the millionth time that day.The envelope contained precious information that couldn’t get into the wrong hands so she returned it to it’s safe place just as her mother walked into the classroom and her teacher was just ending her call.“I’m so sorry I’m late miss Valerie. It won’t happen again.” Ellie apologized profusely.“It’s fine.” Miss Valerie smiled. “Let’s go Mimi.” She said to her daughter.“Is.. Cesar waiting outside?”. Mimi had wanted to call him “dad” but got herself in time. Her mother couldn’t find out that she knew the truth now.“No he’s not." Ellie replied with a frown. "I told you Mimi…he’s a very busy man.”“He promised not to be too busy for me.” She pouted.“Ye
What the hell? Cesar’s eyes widened as a memory came to him. It was six years ago at Catherine Waldorf’s masquerade ball. He’d been invited even though he wasn’t as wealthy as he is now, he’d mingled around meeting new people and getting acquainted with top bosses in the business world when he saw her. She stood in a corner, dressed in a purple armless gown with a silver mask on and she was talking to a lady and she had a glass of champagne in her hand. The other lady said something and she let out a tinkering laugh that went straight to his gut. He knew he had to have her then but he was ambushed by Catherine who wanted him to meet her lovely daughter…but honestly the girl had an uncanny resemblance to queen jezebel in the bible. For politeness sake he’d stopped to talk to Cathy’s daughter and when he turned to look at the lady in the purple gown...she was gone. He cursed and went in search of her but couldn’t find her anywhere which made him frustrated. He almost gave up and w
“Elyon Rosella Devane!”. Cesar bellowed as he marched into the cafeteria. Everyone quieted as they watched the boss glance around with a thunderous pissed off look on his face. He was dressed in black jeans and a green polo shirt which had never happened before. “Elyon!!”. He called. They wondered what his precious personal assistant had done to upset the boss-their ever calm boss looked mad. Mad didn’t actually cut it. He was murderously angry and anyone who stepped out of line was doomed. They looked at each other waiting for someone to talk until the head of the IT department stood up to talk on their behalf. “Sir..she’s not here.” Cole Thorton informed him in a tremulous voice. “Where is she?”. Cesar bit out. “Um..don’t know sir." Cole said and looked around. "Does anyone know where she is?”. They all shook their heads quickly. “Tell her to see me when she gets back.” Cesar rumbled then turned and stormed out. “Yes sir.” Cole said but Cesar was long gone. The rumor mo
“Mommy! Someone’s at the door!”. Miesa called for the third time. She got no response but didn’t bother getting up to check what her mother was doing. She was watching her favorite cartoon; The Princess and the Frog and she hated interruptions. The doorbell continued ringing incessantly which annoyed Miesa to no end so she got up and went to answer the door herself.“Who is it?!”. She snapped as she unlocked the front door and opened it ready to lambast whoever it was but no words came out when she saw Cesar.“Cesar! Hi!”. She hugged him. "Come in!". She pulled him inside.“Hey princess.” He greeted her with a faint smile on his face.“What’s wrong?”. She asked, concerned. He wasn't looking as happy as he usually was whenever he saw her.“Where’s your mom?”. He looked around.“In her room.” She answered.“Ellie!”. Cesar yelled as he brushed past a surprised Miesa and stalked into the living room. "Elyon!”.Elyon walked into the living room wondering if she had conjured him up at her h
One week later Cesar let out a tired sigh and leaned back in his chair. He’d hardly slept a wink ever since he found out that he had a daughter. How could he sleep when every time he closed his eyes, he’d see Miesa’s brown eyes well up with tears because of him. Because he’d left her and now…Elyon refused to come back to work. Hell she wouldn’t even pick his calls. He was so frustrated and sleep deprived. The telephone rang making him jump. He shook his head at his own foolishness and picked up the receiver. “Yes?”. He drawled. “Sir..Elyon Devane is here to see you.” His new temporary assistant/secretary informed him. He sat up straight in his chair. “Elyon?”. “Yes sir. She’s here with..her daughter.” “Let them in.” He said. “Okay sir.” He dropped the receiver and quickly used his fingers to brush his hair. He’d run his fingers through it and now it looked like a bird’s nest. A tentative knock sounded on the door and opened to reveal Ellie. Behind her was Miesa looking all
“That’s Cesar all right.” A lady muttered as she watched Cesar laughing and playing with a little girl who looked so much like him. “Annie must see this.” She took out her phone and snapped a picture of Cesar, Elyon and Miesa then she sent it to Antoinette with a caption; Cesar Sandoval left you for this woman?.Two minutes later She got a call from Antoinette and picked it but lowered her voice so Cesar wouldn’t hear her since they weren’t sitting so far away.“Hey Annie.” She said.“Solange..what was that about?”. Annie demanded. "Are you fucking with me right now?”.“I wish." Solange said. "He’s getting all chummy with her and the little girl. They look like one happy family.”“Where are you?”. Annie asked.“Twitches.”“I’ll be right with you. Don’t let them out of your sight.” Annie ordered harshly.“Yeah.” Solange said and the call disconnected. She eyed Cesari over as she slipped her phone back in her purse. “It’ll be Showtime soon for you Cesari Sandoval.” She smirked evilly, k
Arya Gomez traced the face of the little baby in the photo and let out a rueful sigh. She had regrets about her past and the way she’d treated her only son years ago and now...he was the richest man in the world. She turned the other page and smiled when she saw the photo of his first birthday. She’d been sober that day and had decided to bake him a cake but it had turned into a disaster and she’d ended up getting him a cupcake with a little candle in the middle. Her little boy had been ecstatic to see the cake and he’d flashed her a gorgeous dimpled smile which she’d captured immediately. He didn’t smile often so when he did, she just had to take that picture. She turned to the last page which was a picture of him,his assistant and their little girl as they dined at Twitches. She was a grandma but she’d never know her granddaughter because to her precious son...his mother was dead to him.“Hey Mom,I can’t find my car keys.” Her daughter Leticia said as she walked into the gazebo. "I
Elyon woke up with a start to the sound of glass breaking. She turned on the lamp on her nightstand and checked her alarm clock. It was just two am on Sunday morning which made her wonder if it was from the next house or where?. She heard the noise again and scrambled out of bed then ran out of her room barefoot to Miesa’s room only to collide with a hard body in the hallway and she fell back on her ass. It was definitely a man dressed in black and he had a mask on so she couldn’t see his face. He stalked menacingly towards her and she moved back unable to get up. “Who..who are you and what do you want?”. Elyon tried to sound brave but her voice shook. She hoped her baby was okay. “I’m here to deliver a message to you.” The man’s voice was so deep and distorted that she could hardly make out what he was saying. “What?”. She had to ask again. “Mommy!”. Miesa screamed out from somewhere. "Mommy!”. Elyon shot up from her position on the floor and made to run to Miesa but the huge
