While I'm talking to Greyson, I suddenly feel like someone is staring at me.

I looked around, and my eyes landed on the table not far from us. There is a group of men sitting there. No one is suspicious among them, aside from this one guy sporting a grey polo shirt.

At first I thought I was just imagining things and he's only looking in my direction, but when he flashed a sinister smile, that's when my hair curled up.

"Cleo."

I quickly averted my gaze from that man and looked at Garren, who had just appeared out of nowhere and is now standing in front of me.

"Y-Yes?" I stuttered.

He scowled. "Are you okay? Your face is pale and you're sweating bullets."

I swallowed the lump in my throat and wiped the sweat on my forehead. "I'm fine, sir."

From my peripheral vision, I can see that man still staring at me. I thought he would stop his eerie behavior after I caught him, but he didn't.

What the hell is wrong with him? Isn't he ashamed at all?

"Are you sure?"

I don't know if my

I muttered several expletives inside my head when I saw him locking the door. "W-What are you doing here?" I tried my best to stay calm, but I miserably failed and still stuttered. He flashed a maniacal grin. "Oh, I've been waiting for this moment that we'd be alone together." Shivers run down my spine. My legs are quivering in fear right now, but I'm doing my best not to show it. I need to compose myself. "With all due respect, sir, this is a female bathroom, just in case you didn't see the signage outside." He chuckled and chugged the bottle of beer in his hands. My face screwed up when a rancid scent of alcohol pervaded my nose as he walked closer to me. I took a step back and looked around, searching for something that I can use against him if he starts acting up. "You're so fucking delectable with that dress. But I'm pretty sure that you'd be better off without it." "Don't you dare come near me," I warned in gritted teeth when he took a step again. He smirked. "And wh

THIRD PERSON'S POINT OF VIEW "Please tell me that someone was able to save me from that hell." Garren felt a painful twinge on his heart hearing the misery laced on Cleo's voice. The intense fury that he felt last night as he take the trail down the memory lane. ••••• "Where is your nanny?" That was the first thing that Garren asked his son as he sat back down at their table. "She went to the bathroom. By the way, you did great, dad!" His heart fluttered in glee. "Thank you, but this is the last time that I will do this. I won't give in to your suit next time." The child giggled. "I doubt that, dad." They focused their attentions on the stage as Zenith started singing songs again. However, it has been ten minutes since Cleo left, but she hasn't come back yet. Garren wanted to ignore it, but he couldn't be at ease. Greyson was starting to get worried about her too. "Where are you going?" "I'll look for Cleo. Stay here, alright? I'll be back as soon as I find her." The kid

THIRD PERSONS'S POINT OF VIEW When afternoon came, Garren received a call from someone, so he told them that he would be gone for a while. He stopped by a place that he never thought he would set foot when they planned a trip to Santorini- prison. The guard greeted him as he entered the gate. He walked through the hallway with a stoic face. The warden saw him and already knew the reason why he came back to that place. He immediately assisted him to the prison cell at the end of the alley- a cell that is isolated from the rest. "Get me out of here, you fucking bastards! I swear to Satan, I will burn each and everyone of you the moment I step out of this place!" The furious shout of a mad man, accompanied by the banging on the metal door, break the silence of that dim-lighted hallway. "Did you hear me?! I will ruin everyone-" The prisoner's enraged wail was cut off when he saw two figures standing in front of his prison cell. He recognized the warden in charge, but what rattled h

THIRD PERSON'S POINT OF VIEW "Is Cleo going to be okay, dad?" "She will." "I hope she wakes up very soon." "Your nanny is strong. I'm pretty sure that your wish will happen in no time." The familiar voices of Greyson and Garren murmuring to each other awakened Cleo. She had to adjust her sight to the overwhelming light that greeted her as soon as she oped her eyes. "Shit," she cursed underneath her breath as excruciating pain shot through her head when she tried to get up. Her stomach is aching badly too. "Cleo!" Greyson jumped from the chair and rushed towards the bed. "You finally woke up! We were so worried for you!" He said frantically. Cleo opened her lips, but no words came out. Even smiling seems hard for her to do. "Don't nettle her yet, Greyson. Your nanny just woke up." She looks at Garren, who's standing at the end of the bed. "Do you need anything?" He asked. She signaled him that she needs water because her throat feels as parched as the Sahara desert. A

THIRD PERSON'S POINT OF VIEW "I was able to bring you to the hospital, which is a good thing because they were able to treat the concussion in your head right away." Cleo was lost for words after hearing the entire story. And honestly, she doesn't know what exactly to feel. Should she be relieved that Cyrus failed to carry out his immoral plan? Or should she still be down in the dumps because that doesn't change the fact that she was still harassed? In the midst of the confusion- she had one certainty, she was grateful to Garren. He was her savior. "Thank you." His expression softened after hearing those words from her. "Thank you, sir. If it wasn't for you, I would've met a darker fate. If you hadn't arrived at that time, I couldn't imagine what could've happened to me. So thank you, sir. I owe you my life." His seething fury vanished in a matter of seconds. The weak yet genuine smile plastered on Cleo's face and the tears streaming down her cheeks pacified the turbulent st

"I lost count on how many times you sighed for the past hour," Cynthia said beside me while applying make-up to my face. I gave her a side glance. "Until now, I still don't why I need to come to that party with them. Does Sir Garren not trust his relatives?" She shrugged her shoulders. "And also, why do I need to dress up like this? I feel like a knockoff." "It's better to blend into a crowd of elites rather than go there looking like a rag. You don't want to have a dose of their obscene attitude once they see even a tiny bit of squalor in you," she said while applying a setting powder to my face. I planned to do it myself, but she insisted that she'd want to do it. In the end, I just agreed so she wouldn't kick up a fuss. "And, you're done! I love looking at my art," Cynthia exclaimed while looking at me through the mirror. A smile crept between my lips. I told her to apply light make-up, and she perfectly did it. Props to her. I stood up from my seat and scanned myself in

There were fleeting minutes of silence between the three of us. The woman flashed a smile—a pretentious one. "I didn't mean to offend her, moonpie. I was just confused why she's wearing that kind of dress when she's only your... maid." I clenched my fist in vexation. Did she really think that abated the derogatory remark she hurled at me? "Because I want to." The attention was diverted to Garren when he spoke impassively. He also sounds annoyed. "Mom, can you stop asking questions and let us sit?" Her mother laughed. "You're as peevish as ever, my dear son." She turned to me with that similar spurious smile. "Cleo, right?" I nodded somberly, still agitated. "I hope you're not offended by what I said. I didn't mean to belittle you or anything." I didn't feel any insincerity in her voice, but I repressed my emotions. "No problem, Madam." "Good. Anyway, let's go now. Zacharius has been waiting for the two of you." As far as I remember, Zacharius is the name of Garren's fa

"Oh, sorry. Did I disturb your peace?" The man asked with an apologetic expression. I stood up from the chair and bowed my head. "Good evening, sir. No, you're not a nuisance at all." I don't know who exactly this man is, but from the way he looks, I'm pretty sure he's somehow affiliated with the Montreals. He could be their business partner. "You can have this place, sir." I was planning to leave, but he caught me. I quickly pulled my arms away from him. "O-Oh, I'm sorry," he apologized. "I just want to tell you that you don't need to leave. You were here first. If you're not comfortable, I can leave if you want." I was surprised to hear it from him. This guy seems harmless despite the air of nobility around him. "No worries, I was just shocked. I'm not used to people suddenly touching me." He breathed a sigh of relief. "Anyway, if you want. We can just share the place instead." Why am I speaking as if this porch is just a random place and isn't owned by Garren's parents

Silence hovered between us for a couple of seconds. Nothing could be heard but the silent whisper of the night breeze and the crickets. "Doing what?" Garren asked, breaking the stillness at last. I raised the bracelet he gave. "This. Why are you doing this-""Didn't I tell you the reasons? It was a token of appreciation. I didn't know you could be this-""I'm not merely talking about this bracelet, sir." For the first time, I found the courage to cut him off, knowing how much he loathes that. "Congratulations, baby! You don't know how proud I am of you!" I squeezed Greyson into a tight embrace as we sat back in our chairs. He hugged me back. "Thank you, Cleo." Then he turned to Garren. There's a subtle yet cordial smile plastered on his face. He ruffled his son's hair. "I can't express how happy I am for you, son. You've been working hard for all this day, and you deserve all the recognitions you received." Greyson's eyes glistened with tears, but he quickly wiped them off and smiled heartily at his father. "But I want you to know that with or without these medals, I'm proud of you. You've done great." Greyson hugged him. "Thank you for being my motivation, dad." "What about me? Aren't you going to give your uncle a hug? I helped with your homework," Xavier chimed in. He chuckled and hugged him too. "How could I not forget you, uncle? You were my father back when dad was still bad." Xavier and I couldn't help but laugh while his father was already looking li

The day that Greyson has been waiting for has finally come- his recognition day. The entire mansion is in chaos in preparation for this day. Cynthia told me that this is the first time this has happened because last year when he graduated preschool, his father only gave me an expensive present. But he wants to make a difference today. Hence, all the maids are busy in the kitchen. And after we leave, they will also redesign the house and put up some banners and balloons to surprise Greyson. You read that right, "we." Greyson insisted that I should come with them. "But I want you to be there too. You helped me a lot in my studies and cheered me up whenever I felt discouraged." That's what he told me when I tried to decline because I thought it'd be weird if me, who's merely his nanny, would come with him for this special day. His father is there, so I find my presence really unnecessary. But when he said those words, my decision changed right away. I was flustered, needless to

From that day, I always feel like I'm in deep water. The air between Garren and me became more asphyxiating. I might be the only one who thinks like that because he's still the same... minus the fact that he always does something that knocks me for six. There's no morning that I don't find flowers in my doorway. Lilies, roses, chrysanthemums, lilacs—you name it, Garren has already given it to me. My room looks like a garden now. But it's not just the mere reason why I've been feeling like a cat walking on a hot tin roof for the past three days. All the stolen gazes, the way he smiles and speaks to me, the way he treats me... everything that he does never fails to catch me off guard. Needless to say, it has occurred to me numerous times to make him stop. He's my boss and I'm his employee. Our relationship should be nothing more than that. I don't know what card this universe played to get us here. But every time I think of doing that, there's this inexplicable feeling that stirs

"What are you guys doing?" My body froze when I heard Greyson's voice. I turned to the side and saw him eyeing the two of us with utter bewilderment. With all my strength, I pushed Garren away. I felt like a huge boulder had been lifted off of my chest after that. "W-We..." I coughed and pinched my arm to calm my raving nerves. "Your d-dad and I-" "We were talking, buddy. I was asking Cleo about something." I'm glad Garren spoke up. It's the least that he could do for putting me in this situation. But Greyson doesn't seem like he bought his father's excuse. With a doubtful voice, he said, "Really? As far as I know, you don't have to be THAT close when talking to someone." I held my breath. Right. How stupid of me to think that this kid would fall for such a lie. He's not that gullible. The corner of Greyson's lips tugged upward all of a sudden. "Were you guys kissing?" My face has never turned red like an overripe tomato until now. I glared in Garren's direction, and

"I'm talking here but it seems like I'm with a ghost. Did you call me just to watch you space out?" Guilt struck me. "I'm sorry." This morning, I messaged Erick and asked him if he was free and if he's up to go out. Aside from the fact that this is my way to fulfill my promise to him... I have to take a pause and breathe. And obviously, staying in that house won't give me peace of mind. With what happened last night, I don't think I'll ever keep my heart and mind at bay anymore. Everything is still etched in my mind. The peculiar emotions in Garren's eyes that seemed to stare at the deepest part of my soul. His calloused hands that fondled my skin. He must have already notified them about our arrival. "They're probably resting," Xavier answered. The child pouted. He's possibly thinking that the others won't be celebrating with him today. Garren stepped forward and slightly opened the door. He turned to his son and smiled. "Go on, buddy." The latter frowned, but he didn't say anything and just entered the house. "Congratulations!" Greyson was startled as all the maids, led by Claudette, surprised him with a huge congratulatory banner and balloons. He hasn't recovered from that when someone emerged from behind them carrying a cake. The smile on my face dropped, but I quickly put it back because I don't want to spoil the fun and cast a shadow over this celebration. "I'm so proud of you, moonpie! Top of your class.
